Description

Workshop Description
This is an annular solar eclipse, which will be visible across the western U.S., as well as Central America and South America. While the moon will be passing directly between the Earth and the Sun, it will happen when the Moon is at a point in its orbit when it is farther away from the Earth. As a result, the Moon does not completely cover the face of the sun. This is known as a ‘Ring of Fire’ eclipse.
This eclipse will be an excellent opportunity for photographers to prepare for the Total Eclipse seven months later. It can serve as a “dry run” so that people can test any new equipment that they have for the 2024 eclipse, such as solar filters for cameras. This will also be an opportunity for people across the western U.S. to see an eclipse without having to travel outside the United States.
This “Ring of Fire” eclipse will be visible from several national parks in Utah but those locations will have the maximum number of people. Someone may also be able to view it while standing in four states at one time at the intersection of Utah, Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona. We will be viewing it from Mexican Hat, UT, which is on the very center-line of the eclipse, giving us the longest amount of time in the total “Ring of Fire” portion of the eclipse.

Eclipse Time Schedule (times shown in local time MDT)
Total Duration of Eclipse: 2 hours, 51 minutes, 10 seconds
Duration of annularity: 4 minutes, 37 seconds
Partial begins: 9:10:27 am
Full begins: 10:29:23 am
Maximum at: 10:31:42 am
Full ends: 10:34:00 am
Partial ends: 12:01:37 pm

Only one location in Mexican Hat area for best viewing of the eclipse
