Online: Special Guest Series- Photographing the Coast and Techniques for Editing with Tony Baldasaro

This online class will meet Thursday January 18th & 25th, 7-8:30pm EST

Two of the greatest advantages of living near the coast are the photographic opportunities afforded twice daily: Sunrise and Sunset. The coastline has natural obviously natural beauty, but how to create impactful images can be elusive and frustrating. How do we plan for weather? How do we decide to expose our images? And how do we have the foresight to plan out our images in the field with post-processing in mind?
In this 2-part online class, guest photographer Tony Baldasaro will share his experiences on how to best photograph along the coast, from prep work to in-the-field techniques to post-processing.

In session one, Tony will cover tips on creating impactful images of sunrise and sunset along the coast, including:
• Proper Equipment & Settings
• The challenge of dynamic range
• Shooting to the Right and how to use your Histogram
• Compositional techniques to keep in mind in the field
• The concept of “collecting assets” – shooting in the field with post processing in mind.

In session two, Tony will tackle the challenge of post-processing, including:
• His techniques for managing files in Lightroom
• Choosing impactful images.
• Using layers in photoshop for simple blending techniques.
• The difference between global and local adjustments.
• Using masks in Lightroom to make local adjustments

About Tony Baldasaro Having called New England my home for nearly 50 years, Tony has grown accustomed to not only the seasonal changes, but also the sometimes volatile weather that comes with those changes and has come to love photographing in all of the conditions New England has to offer.
With more than 20 years of photography experience, he loves creating images that depict not only natural landscapes, but the animals found in those landscapes as well. Specifically, he loves creating images of birds in their natural habitat.
In addition to photography, Tony has been a teacher and school official for nearly 30 years. Merging his two passions, photography and education, gives him the opportunity to do what he loves most: Teach and create. He looks forward to continuing to teach and create moving forward.

After you register for this class, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. We will also send a reminder email about 24 hours prior to the class time with that same information.

Layout of the class
The class will begin promptly at the time listed. The majority of the class–90 minutes to 2 hours– will be a presentation on the topic, followed by a short Q&A. During the class, you are welcome to type in questions in the Chat box if you have specific questions as they are asked. We will do our best to answer those questions, but if not, feel free to ask them at the end.

We will be recording this class! The video will be available for download about 24-hours after the class for all attendees, so don’t worry about taking unending notes. We will send this link attendees to download and rewatch at any time. In addition to this, we will generally send out a PDF of the presentation (when applicable) and handouts on the topic. If handouts and PDFs are included, we will send it out with the link for the video.
