SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Adventure: Photographing the Wiscasset\, Waterville\, and Farmington Steam Railway
DESCRIPTION:In Alna\, Maine\, a group of highly motivated and skilled volunteers has worked tirelessly to resurrect what was once a fully-functioning Narrow Gauge Railroad that once served parts of coastal and central Maine. Their work is a labor of love. On the campus of the railroad\, 97 Cross Road\, Alna\, Maine 04535\, several buildings are used for construction\, maintenance\, painting\, engineering\, and labor necessary to renovate\, build\, and maintain steam engines\, railroad cars\, track\, and other necessary components. The undertaking is immense\, impressive\, and fascinating. \nEverything about the location\, the trains\, the many details\, and the people who volunteer their skills to make the WW&F run makes for outstanding photographic opportunities. During the weekend of April 24 and 25\, the railway will be closed to the public as they do “spring cleaning” to prepare the railroad for the season opening. We will have unprecedented access to the campus\, the buildings\, and the volunteers for two full days of photography. The goal is an immersive\, documentary style of storytelling as individuals and as a group. This is a unique and fantastic opportunity. \nAfter the workshop\, anyone that attends (along with anyone that has attended a previous Midcoast/WW&F Adventure) will have the opportunity to sign up for a separate class on developing and creating a book and gallery prints based around the WW&F. This project is geared toward getting attendees more comfortable with the full process\, including culling\, editing\, processing for print\, and developing cohesive projects! (More details to come…) \n  \nGeneral Schedule: \nApril 24 – \nArrive WW&F Railroad at 10 am. \nBring a Lunch\, snacks\, drinks with you. Wiscasset is about 5 miles away if lunch needed. \nConclude afternoon at 5 pm \nDinner locally as a group \nApril 25 – \nArrive WW&F Railroad at 9 am \nBring a lunch \, snacks\, drinks\, with you. Wiscasset is about 5 miles away if lunch needed. \nConclude at 4 pm \nHead for home

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Adventure: A Winter Muse in Central Maine
DESCRIPTION:Winter is often a difficult time of year for finding inspiration to get out and photograph.  One easy solution is to find an interior space to work in.  The other is to have a specific project to work on.  Combining access to an inspiring interior as well as a worthy project is just what the photographer ordered for a winter muse.  \nJoin us in Central Maine as we spend the weekend thoroughly exploring the interior of the South Solon Meeting House and other points of local interest.  Our primary goal will be to create an extensive body of work showcasing the historic meeting house in color\, monochrome\, and fine detail.  Join us!

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Adventure: The Azores
DESCRIPTION:Workshop Description\nImmerse yourself in the beauty of São Miguel\, Flores\, Corvo and Terceira Island\, capturing stunning moments along the way. Join this unforgettable journey with Hunt’s Photo Adventures and landscape photographer and native Azorean Bruno Ázera to discover the unique charm of each island through your lens. (All photos on this page are courtesy and used with permission from Bruno Ázera.)  \nThe Azores are nine beautiful islands located in the North Atlantic Ocean. The archipelago benefits from a mild\, temperate climate year-round\, making it an appealing destination in any season. Temperatures are relatively stable\, with moderate rainfall\, contributing to the island’s lush green landscapes. The location of the Azores has historically made it an important waypoint for transatlantic navigation\, still contributing to a significant route and meteorological studies. \nThe islands are getting more and more renowned for their breathtaking landscapes and sea views\, including volcanic craters\, the lush green valleys and dramatic coastlines. Each one of the nine islands offers a distinct experience as well as a safe and pristine place to visit. \nThe Azores provides the opportunity to immerse yourself in the unique culture\, warm-hearted people and photographic treasures. From volcanic villages and hot springs to captivating whale-watching excursions\, here is the perfect spot for those with a sense of adventure. For ocean enthusiasts\, the waters around the archipelago are a hotspot for whale and dolphin watching\, with species like sperm whales\, blue whales and orcas. \nThe Azores are a paradise in the middle of the Atlantic\, once you arrive every moment is an opportunity to capture the magic of these islands. \nItinerary: \nDay 1 – São Miguel\nWelcome to João Paulo II airport in Ponta Delgada. Have the day to relax or explore the surrounding beaches. Later\, we’ll pick you up for a welcome dinner at a local restaurant—an ideal opportunity to ask questions\, bond with fellow travelers\, and share in the anticipation of the journey ahead. \nFor sunset we head to picturesque beaches of Santa Bárbara and Monte Verde. Alternatively\, we may head to the jagged cliffs of Miradouro do Cintrão\, providing a breathtaking view of the north coast and the majestic Sete Cidades volcano in the background. Get ready for a day filled with exploration\, delicious cuisine\, and the perfect moments to capture with your camera. \nDay 2 – São Miguel\nThe day starts at Lagoa do Fogo volcanic lake\, one of the highest points of the island. If you have a drone\, take full advantage of it to capture unique perspectives up here. \nAfter lunch\, our journey heads west to explore the volcanic crater of Sete Cidades\, home to the captivating multi-colored lakes of Lagoa Verde and Azul. It’s a truly incredible sight\, providing a sense of the surrounding area. If you’re into adventurous activities\, kayaking and paddleboarding are delightful options on these scenic lakes. \nOur next destination is one of the Azores’ highlights—the Grota do Inferno viewpoint. While the crater lakes of Sete Cidades can be admired from various vantage points\, this spot stands out as one of the best. For those equipped with a drone\, capturing Lagoa do Canário from the air reveals an intriguing and visually stunning shape. \nFor sunset\, we head to Mosteiros Beach to capture the last light of the day in a beautiful seascape photography location. \nDay 3 – São Miguel\nOur morning begins at the Santa Iria viewpoint for a captivating sunrise overlooking the north coastline of the Island. \nAfter breakfast we head to Lagoa das Furnas—a spectacular crater lake offering opportunities to photograph mud pools and steaming geothermal features. \nOur journey continues to the Terra Nostra Park\, renowned as one of the most beautiful gardens\, featuring inviting thermal pools. Remember to pack your swimwear\, as temperatures range between 35 and 40 degrees Celsius\, providing a soothing and relaxing experience for the remainder of the day. \nFor lunch we try the famous local dish\, Cozido das Furnas\, uniquely cooked by volcanic steam. Indulge in the sweet muffins look-alike known as bolo lêvedo\, adding a delightful local flavor to our experience. \nIn the afternoon\, we venture to the oldest tea plantation in Europe\, Gorreana Tea plantation. Discover the intricacies of the factory and its scenic surroundings. The unique landscape\, shaped by the vibrant green tea leaves\, offers endless possibilities for captivating photography. \nAs the day unfolds\, we head back to the island’s coastline to capture the mesmerizing colors of the sunset\, concluding the day with the perfect photographic moment. \nDay 4 – São Miguel / Flores\nWe kick off our morning with a visit to one of the most unique locations in São Miguel\, the Vila Franca Islet\, renowned for its unique geological formation. This islet features a volcanic crater that has partially collapsed\, allowing seawater to enter and form a natural circular pool inside the crater. To capture truly distinctive perspectives\, a bird’s eye view from a drone is essential. \nTime to pack because another island is expecting us. \nWelcome to the best-kept secret of Europe—the wild and beautiful Island of Flores. \nAfter settling into our accommodations we have some time to relax before we head out to the impressive basalt columns of Rocha dos Bordões. The variety of compositions you can create at this location is truly remarkable. \nFor the last light of the day we explore the waterfalls of the western part of the island\, overlooking the majestic Ribeira Grande waterfall and Poço da Ribeira do Ferreiro. \nDay 5 – Flores\nOur day kicks off with a sunrise at the scenic Baía da Alagoa\, a rocky bay offering a mesmerizing view of rugged basalt sea stacks as our main subject\, with Corvo Island in the background. \nOur next stop is the picturesque town of Santa Cruz and it’s natural basalt swimming pools\, an excellent photographic opportunity to play with long exposure techniques. \nAfter lunch we get together for an editing session before we head out for the last light of the day to one of the most beautiful spots of the Azores. A short hike takes us to the stunning waterfalls of Poço da Ribeira do Ferreiro. Nestled at the base of the waterfalls is an astonishing lagoon\, offering a variety of exciting compositions for your photography. \nDay 6 – Flores\nThe weather in the Azores\, especially in Flores\, is notoriously unpredictable\, with rapid changes that may require us to always have a plan B\, so our sixth day starts with the panoramic views of Lagoa Negra (the deepest lagoon in the Azores) and Lagoa Comprida\, or Lagoa Rasa and Lagoa Funda\, offering a fascinating rugged landscape characterized by differences in altitude and color between the two lagoons. \nAfter lunch take some time to rest or jump to the waters of the Atlantic ocean\, our accommodations are right in front of natural swimming pools. \nIn the evening we head north\, where we explore the rugged north coastline of Ponta Delgada\, stopping at viewpoints along the way. The day concludes at the impressive Baía do Além\, offering striking seascapes in its surroundings with Albarnaz lighthouse perched on the edge of the cliffs. Be prepared for the unexpected and embrace the dynamic beauty of Flores. \nDay 7 – Flores / Corvo\nDepending on the conditions of the Atlantic\, our day is dedicated to discovering the Island of Corvo with Carlos Mendes of Extreme Ocidente. Our boat ride takes us through the impressive coastline of Flores\, showcasing jaw-dropping waterfalls and caves. There’s also a high likelihood of encountering dolphins and other whales during our journey. Once in Corvo we’ll get to a short ride to the Caldeira. \nDay 8 – Flores / Terceira\nWe fly to Terceira Island\, home to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Angra do Heroísmo. Get to know this beautiful and charming city\, different patterns and colors from the Portuguese architecture make for very interesting subjects. \nNext in our list are the forests of the Island and the Black Forest\, a unique location with dense vegetation where light struggles to penetrate\, ensuring every photograph is a one-of-a-kind capture\, specially if the fog rolls in. \nFor sunset\, we visit Biscoitos. A picturesque town\, known for its wine-growing region and even more for its beautiful natural pools. The rugged black-colored lava fields sculpted by waves make for really interesting seascapes. \nDay 9 – Terceira\nOur morning starts in the south coast of the Island at Serretinha natural swimming pools\, overlooking Ilhéu das Cabras in the background\, a fantastic spot for the first light of the day. \nNext\, we head out to the most picturesque volcano cone in the Azores\, Pico Dona Joana. With Ilhéu das Cabras in the background has to be one of the most unique perspectives you will see in the Azores. \nShort break before we head out to Praia da Vitória to have lunch and enjoy the view of the beach. Terceira Island is known to have the best food of the Azores\, so we have to make the best out of it. \nOur next stop we reach one of the island’s highlights\, Algar do Carvão\, the only volcano in the world that you can walk inside. While tripods are not allowed\, be sure to bring your fastest and widest lens for this extraordinary experience. \nConsidered one of the most beautiful viewpoint in Portugal\, we reserved the best for the last day. The unique view of the interior of the island\, known as the “patchwork”\, consisting of walls of volcanic stones dividing the farmer fields into square-shaped figures\, makes Serra do Cume the epic spot to photograph the first light of the day. \nDay 10 – Terceira\nEnjoy a final breakfast together\, reminiscing about the incredible moments shared during the tour. Unfortunately\, it’s time to say goodbye and fly home. \nWe hope you cherish all of these amazing memories and fantastic photographs from the Azores. \nYour Trip Includes:\n• All local transportation\, including airport pickup and drop off\n• Accommodations during the workshop\n• Opening night reception dinner and closing night dinner\n• No single supplement pricing!\n• English-speaking professional drivers\, and licensed\, local guides\n• Professional photographer-guide/teacher (Don Toothaker) \nYour Trip Does Not Include:\n• Flights to and from the Azores (Ponta Delgada- PDL) \n• Meals (except opening and closing night)\n• Travel insurance (which is highly recommended for all travelers) \nYour passport will be required on this workshop. \nSkill Sets: All Levels of Photographers are Welcome\, but please note: This is a photography workshop.\nPhysical Activity: Medium. SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Adventure: Costa Rica
DESCRIPTION:Workshop Description \nLocated along the Pacific coast of Costa Rica\, the Osa Peninsula is renowned for its remote location and rugged bio-diversity.  More than half of Costa Rica’s native species of wildlife can be found here in the abundant rainforests\, on picturesque beaches\, and along a nearby river.   Each day\, we will depart from our spectacular accommodations at Botanika to photograph the colorful life found in and around the rainforest.  Mammals (including monkeys)\, reptiles\, birds\, and plant life will be our subjects during daily excursions around the peninsula via hiking\, a van\, and a specially equipped pontoon boat.  The Costa Rican Rainforest will be a challenging\, but highly rewarding experience for all that attend. \n  \nDaily Excursions: \nEach day\, we will set out to photograph nature and wildlife around the Osa Peninsula.  Natural history guides from the resort will assist us in locating wildlife and interesting subjects.  Each guide is native to the area and experts at what they do.  Whether we set off on foot\, in the van\, or on the boat\, the guides will do all the can to find subjects for us to photograph and put us in the best positions to do so.  Please note: Tips for the guides are NOT included in the pricing. \nGeneral Itinerary \n(Itinerary Note: The itinerary for each Photo Adventure is developed far in advance of our arrival. Occasionally\, changes that out of our control may occur. weather\, road conditions\, safety concerns\, or other circumstances may force a change of plans. The trip leader will be responsible to consider and implement any necessary changes. Any additional costs incurred because of changes will be the responsibility of each attendee. Refunds will not be issued as a result of itinerary changes.) \nApril 5 – Arrive via Flights from USA to San Jose\, Costa Rica (NOT included in pricing) where we will be shuttled to our hotel for the day/evening. Rooms and accommodations are already made and included in pricing \nApril 6 – Leave San Jose early morning via plane for Puerto Jiminez where we will be shuttled to our resort\, the Botanika. Check in\, introductions\, orientation\, and time in and around the grounds of the resort for photography \nApril 7 – Guided Wildlife Tour to Carate \nApril 8 – Guided Tour on the Sierpe River (classroom session later in afternoon) \nApril 9 – Guided Macro Session in the Rainforest of La Tarde \nApril 10- Guided Tour of Golfe Dulce with river boat excursion \nApril 11 – Guided Sloth Tour and Image review/discussion. Final Dinner \nApril 12 – Morning flight to San Jose. Flights back to United States CANNOT be earlier than 11am. \n  \nWhat’s included in the workshop: \n• Transfers from airport in San Jose to Hilton Garden Inn hotel for the night of April 5\, 2024 \n• First night lodging at Hilton Garden Inn in San Jose; six nights accommodation at Botanika \n• Internal flight from San Jose to Puerto Jimenez (round-trip) \n• All meals and non-alcoholic drinks at Botanika \n• All excursions and park fees \n• All guide services and photography instruction \nWhat’s not included in the workshop: \n• Roundtrip ticket to San Jose\, Costa Rica (arriving on April 5th) from your location \n• If you choose to arrive early and stay late in San Jose any costs are assumed by the attendee. \n• Gratuities for guide and resort staff \n• Any alcoholic drinks at Botanika \n  \nSkill Sets: All Levels of Photographers are Welcome \nPhysical Activity:  Overall this Photo Adventure will be relatively easy.  We will walk up to 2 miles per day on trails and beaches in humid\, wet conditions.   Footwear and clothing should be appropriate for forest and beach walking. \n  \nRecommended Camera Gear: This Photo Adventure is geared toward those using DSLR or Mirrorless cameras with interchangeable lenses\, but all cameras are welcome! \n• If possible\, bring at least 2 camera bodies (If you are looking for a camera or lens to rent\, you can rent it from us at rentals.huntsphoto.com!) Two camera bodies allows for less changing of lenses in rainforest conditions. \n• You must have a long telephoto lens! Our primary subjects will be birds and wildlife. We recommend either a 100-400mm lens (or equivalent) for birds in flight\, a 500mm lens or longer for birds and wildlife\, or both! \n• Landscape opportunities will be available in the forest and on the beaches. Consider 16-35 or 24-70mm (or equivalent) for landscapes and general purpose \n• A fixed\, fast lens such as a 50mm (or equivalent) is suggested for portrait opportunities or general photography \n• We will also have macro opportunities\, such as bugs\, frogs\, snakes\, etc.  A 100mm macro is fine for general purpose macro photography\, but something longer such as a 180mm is best for frogs and snakes. We do NOT suggest a 60mm (or less) macro lens\, as it will cause you to get too close to reptiles. \n• Consider bringing a circular polarizing filter (CPL) and neutral density (ND) filters. \n• A tripod is recommended for long exposures. \n• Due to the inclement weather we may experience\, a rain cover for your camera and a weather-resistant camera bag (backpack style) are recommended. \n• Other Accessories may include flash for low light\, fill light\, and to stop action and a Better Beamer (or similar) flash extender. \n• Consider bringing your laptop and external hard drive for transferring daily photos. \n• Extra batteries and lots of memory cards are always encouraged. \nImportant things to keep in mind: \n• Conditions will be wet and humid.  Lightweight pants\, shirts\, undergarments\, and socks are recommended. It is highly recommended to bring quick drying\, wicking undergarments (tshirts and underwear). A light raincoat (for you and your camera\, see above “rain covers”) will be extremely important\, as will waterproof hiking shoes/boots. \n• A hat and sunglasses are always recommended\, and you may also consider bringing sandals. \n• Make sure to bring bug spray and sunscreen \n\n  \nTravel Information: \nEach participant is responsible to book and pay for their own flights to and from San José in Costa Rica.  Each participant must arrive on April 5th and leave NO EARLIER than 11am on April 12th.   ***** PLEASE HEED THE DEPARTURE TIME.  If you choose to arrive earlier than April 5th or stay later than April 12th\, it is the personal and financial responsibility of each participant to secure housing\, etc. \nResort Information: \nOur accommodations will be at the Hotel Botanika.  Each guest will have their own room.  A key factor of comfort aside from the beautiful rooms and resort is that our rooms are air conditioned!  After a full day of photography in the humid conditions of the rainforest your air conditioned room will feel great!  Our food choices in the hotel restaurant will feature an assortment of salads\, pastas\, fresh seafood (Botanika is right ON the coast!)\, meats\, and sandwiches.  Please advise of any special dietary needs beforehand and we will work with the hotel kitchen to ensure your comfort.   All of your meals are included.  The hotel hosts a pool and a spa for relaxing during down time. \nPayments\nA non-refundable reservation fee of $1700 is required upon sign-up to secure a spot. The total cost of the trip is $6795. Please note that the reservation fee and payments on this workshop is non-refundable. Please make sure to purchase insurance in case you need to cancel your trip. (You can purchase trip insurance from numerous insurance companies– Allianz\, AAA\, and more.)\nThe remaining balance is due 90-days prior to the workshop and can be made on this page.

Join us!
