DESCRIPTION:Registration for this event is taken by the Wakefield Rec Department at this Link!\nThursdays October 1st\, 8th\, 15th\, 22nd & 29th\, and November 5th\, 4:30-5:45pm • Hunt’s Photo\, Melrose \nOver the course of the sessions\, we will cover a wide range of topics\, from composition & perspective to depth of field & movement. In every session we’ll have a brief introduction to a topic followed by a fun practical exercise. Our goal is to get your photographers taking pictures as much as possible!  At the end of each session\, we’ll look back on the images to see what we liked about them. \nOur goal in this program is to have a lot of fun and not bog students down with too much technical stuff. However\, we will also scaffold instruction\, so if an attendee wants to know more about the technical aspects\, they still can! Please note: This course is geared towards students aged 11-16 years old. Our age requirement is general and a certain maturity level is helpful.  Younger students with interest and a level of responsibility are welcome to attend. \nStudents will be required to have some kind of camera. We generally recommend a DSLR or mirrorless camera\, but if you’re unsure\, feel free to contact us at classes@huntsphoto.com \nThis will be a fun program with experienced instruction. SUMMARY:Hunt's Horror Lighting Portrait Workshop V: What We Shoot in the Shadows (with guest photographer Lindsey Ruth)
DESCRIPTION:It’s the scariest time of the year…again! No\, we’re not talking about tax season– It’s Halloween! Join us for our annual Horror Lighting Portrait Workshop! In this workshop\, we will create portraits utilizing a style of lighting reminiscent to that used in Horror films!\nIn this workshop\, we will begin by discussing the style of Horror Lighting\, using examples from the history of horror\, from classic 1930s Universal horror films to 1980s slasher to more modern\, experimental techniques. Instructor Paul Nelson has spent painstaking hours and buckets of popcorn to research the intricacies of horror\, and\, believe it or not\, it’s not all just “monster lighting”. We will photograph both inside and (if weather allows) outside to both recreate and create new in-the-style-of scenes to photograph. We will utilize both our Hunt’s Photo Melrose classrooms as well as locations in the surrounding area to great effect. We’ll discuss how to light and what to use\, create shadows and textures\, use studio space and real-life locations\, work with models and more!\nIn this workshop\, we will cover:\n• How to compose the lighting in a scene\, including how and when to use flash vs LED\n• Flash and LED lighting (important enough to write it on here twice)\n• Using lighting indoor or outside\n• Creating dynamic shadows and effects in your work with lighting\, as well as other light modification\n• How to work with (posing and directing) models to achieve a desired look\n• Developing a creative concept in portraits\, not only using lighting and posing\, but also costumes\, hair\, and make-up\nYou do not need to own a flash or lighting to attend this workshop. Photographers of all skill levels are encouraged to attend. \nAdded Bonus! \nThis year\, we will be joined by guest photographer and SIGMA Ambassador Lindsey Ruth\, as well as SIGMA lenses! SUMMARY:An Intro to Creating Cyanotypes - A 2-Part Workshop- Hunt's Photo\, Melrose
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education as we dive into a workshop that will quite literally bring you back to the days of film and hand-printing!\nCyanotypes are quite literally BLUE prints that can be simply made by placing a negative on top of a piece of coated paper (or other material) under UV light (or the sun) for a period of time. Once washed in water\, the resulting print produces a brilliant blue image on a white background. \nCyanotypes are also sometimes also referred to as sun prints\, as you can put semi-translucent items in front of the negatives/paper to create an ethereal look in your prints. We will demonstrate both processes during this workshop. \nThis is a 2-part workshop. In our first session\, we will discuss the process\, materials needed\, how to create a digital negative\, the cyanotype chemistry\, and other fun elements to include with your cyanotypes. We will spend the rest of the first session making cyanotypes–coating paper\,  adding semi-translucent items\, and printing images. For session 1\, we will use a set of pre-made digital negatives to give you a good idea of the type of images that work for cyanotypes. \nIn our second session\, we will continue coating and printing using your images. You are also welcome to bring in other materials you have brought from home\, if you choose. \nThis is a unique workshop that will emphasize creativity and process. \nA few items of note:\n• In this workshop\, we will be utilizing cyanotype chemistry\, consisting of ferric ammonium citrate (for light sensitivity) and potassium ferricyanide (for color). As described by the chemistry company Photographers Formulary\, “…[Potassium Ferricyanide] is not particularly toxic… [unless] placed in a strong acid solution; however\, strong acid is not used in the cyanotype process.”\n• Because we will be working with chemistry\, you must follow all instructions given regarding chemistry and personal protective equipment.\n• Because this chemistry can stain\, we will be taking precautions and wearing gloves. We strongly recommend bringing an apron\, one that you won’t mind if it changes colors.

To learn how to do that\, check out our Lightroom File Management and Editing in Adobe Lightroom Classic Sessions! \nAdobe Lightroom is an ever-changing and ever-expanding program. As such\, it can be hard to keep up with many of the changes in the program that make processing your images easier\, more efficient\, and with better adjustment capabilities! \nAfter taking the basic “Editing in Lightroom Classic” sessions\, our “Intermediate Editing in Lightroom Classic” is the obvious next step. In this course we will reinforce what we learned in the basic class\, but pepper in more advanced capabilities\, including newer editing capabilities. Specifically\, we will cover: \n\nAI Masking and Advanced Masking Techniques\n\nSky\, Subject\, and Background Masking\nObject Masking\nAdding into Existing Masking\nColor/Luminance Range Masking\n\n\nDistraction Removal\nDenoise and Super Resolution\n\nProfiles\n\n\nRGB Tone Curve\n\nPerspective Correction\n\nAnd more! \nThis is a 2-Part class. There are now a few different versions of Adobe Lightroom right now.This course is specifically on Adobe Lightroom Classic. The other version of Lightroom\, commonly known as “Adobe Lightroom CC” (yes\, we understand you may be confused by this) is a more mobile and cloud-based program. The look and feel of the program is completely different– This course is specifically on Adobe Lightroom Classic. (See graphic on the right.) Important: If you are taking this course\, make sure to download/update the program in advance\, as you will not be able to download the program at the store. DESCRIPTION:Registration for this event is taken by the Wakefield Rec Department at this Link!\nThursdays October 1st\, 8th\, 15th\, 22nd & 29th\, and November 5th\, 4:30-5:45pm • Hunt’s Photo\, Melrose \nOver the course of the sessions\, we will cover a wide range of topics\, from composition & perspective to depth of field & movement. In every session we’ll have a brief introduction to a topic followed by a fun practical exercise. Our goal is to get your photographers taking pictures as much as possible!  At the end of each session\, we’ll look back on the images to see what we liked about them. \nOur goal in this program is to have a lot of fun and not bog students down with too much technical stuff. However\, we will also scaffold instruction\, so if an attendee wants to know more about the technical aspects\, they still can! Please note: This course is geared towards students aged 11-16 years old. Our age requirement is general and a certain maturity level is helpful.  Younger students with interest and a level of responsibility are welcome to attend. \nStudents will be required to have some kind of camera. We generally recommend a DSLR or mirrorless camera\, but if you’re unsure\, feel free to contact us at classes@huntsphoto.com \nThis will be a fun program with experienced instruction. It is encouraged to take his class multiple times to build up different skill levels as time goes on. \n

DESCRIPTION:Please note: This course does not cover file management or importing images into the program\, or the Basics of Editing. To learn how to do that\, check out our Lightroom File Management and Editing in Adobe Lightroom Classic Sessions! \nAdobe Lightroom is an ever-changing and ever-expanding program. As such\, it can be hard to keep up with many of the changes in the program that make processing your images easier\, more efficient\, and with better adjustment capabilities! \nAfter taking the basic “Editing in Lightroom Classic” sessions\, our “Intermediate Editing in Lightroom Classic” is the obvious next step. In this course we will reinforce what we learned in the basic class\, but pepper in more advanced capabilities\, including newer editing capabilities. Specifically\, we will cover: \n\nAI Masking and Advanced Masking Techniques\n\nSky\, Subject\, and Background Masking\nObject Masking\nAdding into Existing Masking\nColor/Luminance Range Masking\n\n\nDistraction Removal\nDenoise and Super Resolution\n\nProfiles\n\n\nRGB Tone Curve\n\nPerspective Correction\n\nAnd more! \nThis is a 2-Part class. We encourage testing out what you’ve learned in between sessions to maximize your experience! \n \n \nAn important note about this course! There are now a few different versions of Adobe Lightroom right now.This course is specifically on Adobe Lightroom Classic. The other version of Lightroom\, commonly known as “Adobe Lightroom CC” (yes\, we understand you may be confused by this) is a more mobile and cloud-based program. The look and feel of the program is completely different– This course is specifically on Adobe Lightroom Classic. (See graphic on the right.) Important: If you are taking this course\, make sure to download/update the program in advance\, as you will not be able to download the program at the store. SUMMARY:Developing Black & White Film- Hunt's Photo Melrose
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education as we discuss all the key elements of loading and developing film\, and get you to develop a roll on your own! In this workshop\, we will show you how to load film into a developing tank\, discuss the elements of the chemistry involved\, and other various aspects. Because of the many variables\, we will only be using one specific type of developer\, but we will discuss the possibilities of other developers available and their advantages. \nPlease note: This class caters to black & white film developing only! We will also have a color film developing class. All film classes can be found here. \nWe will provide tanks\, reels\, chemistry\, and basically anything that you need to develop your film. All you will need to have is a roll of film to develop. (Make sure that roll is black and white and NOT C-41 black and white\, as that cannot be developed in black and white chemistry!) \nWe will also include a free scan of your film after it has been processed! Since your film will be wet at the end of the session\, you will leave it to dry so it can be scanned. The digital scans will be sent directly to your email address. If you would like the negatives to be shipped to another store for pickup\, we can gladly do that!
