DESCRIPTION:Hunt’s Photo Education Presents…The Weekend Workshop: A long weekend conference featuring the Hunt’s Photo Education Team! The weekend will feature education seminars\, photo walks and workshops\, image reviews\, editing and file management\, and fine art printing. Our walks and workshops will feature a variety of (mostly) new options\, and includes macro photography\, street photography\, black & white photography\, portrait and studio lighting.\nDuring the weekend\, each attendee will have the opportunity to attend 5 Photo Walks. We will have an introductory Photo Walk on the first evening that everyone will be able to attend. On days 2 and 3\, our instructors will conduct one Photo Walk in the morning and one Photo Walk in the evening. They will repeat the same schedule on Friday and Saturday. So\, if you attend a Photo Walk with Instructor A on Friday morning\, you’ll have the ability to attend a different Photo Walk with Instructor B on Saturday morning.\nDuring the middle part of Friday and Saturday\, we will have image reviews\, file management sessions\, and printing sessions. You are welcome to attend these\, or you can take a break\, if needed!\nWe will also have lead-in online presentations during the week\, which you can attend for no additional charge. These will include “An Intro to Focus Stacking”\, “Photograph What You Feel”\, “Understanding Black and White Photography”\, “Paper: In the Mood for Printing”\, and more!\nJoin us for a fantastic weekend of photo fun!\nPhoto Walk Options: Below\, you will find three options for morning walks and four options for evening walks. After registering\, you’ll receive a link to choose which walks you would like to participate in. We will do our very best to place you into the requested walks. Keep in mind that while we have 3-4 choices\, you will only be able to participate in two of the walks in the morning and two in the evening.\nPlease note: Factors can occur that may affect these walks\, including weather. These walks are subject to change slightly\, but we will attempt to keep the bulk of these walks as close to listed as possible!\nThe Weekend Workshops Walk Options\nMorning Options\n? Focus Stacking and Macro at the Stevens-Coolidge Gardens (with Emily Hojnowski)-\n??????Focus Stacking is the process of combining images of different focus in order to create images with greater depth of field\, which are particularly advantageous in macro images. Attendees will work with Emily on the in-camera processes in-the-field\, compare them with regular macro images\, and will follow up with image reviews later in the weekend.\n? Street Photography at Copley Plaza (with Ron Phillips)-\n??????Street photography is all about blending in\, finding compositions\, and being ready. Ron will work with attendees on finding that subject matter\, getting it right in-camera\, and shooting without a tripod to create fabulous street photo images!\n? Finding Color in Marblehead (with Don Toothaker)-\n??????From homes and flags to the ocean and lobster traps\, seaside towns provide a beautiful array of color. This walk will emphasize looking for color as we hunt for compositions along the ocean.\nEvening Options\n? Light Painting in Boston (with Emily Hojnowski)-\n??????When creating long exposures\, adding additional light?either from flashlights\, light wands\, or other well-lit devices?can add an additional depth and interest to your images. In this walk\, we will add in light along the cityscapes of Boston.\n? Drag the Shutter- Portraits with Movement and Flash! (with Rebecca Wade and Emily Hojnowski)-\n??????Create dynamic portraits with movement by lowering your shutter speed and using flash (provided by Hunt’s!). This simple technique has endless possibilities and will create some of the most unique portraits imaginable!\n? Photography without a Tripod in Harvard Square (with Ron Phillips)-\n??????If you really hate using a tripod\, this will make your evening\, as we work to create amazing compositions and dynamic shots without the aid of a tripod. We’ll traverse Harvard Square in the evening to create stunning exposures of unique compositions!\n? Exploring Black & White in Winchester (with Don Toothaker)-\n????? The key of this walk is to help attendees see and create effective compositions in monochrome. DESCRIPTION:This is a great opportunity to build up your editing skills in Lightroom!\nAdobe Lightroom is the choice program for professionals and amateurs\, with ever-growing capabilities and options. However\, there are many levels to understanding in the program. How do we organize our photos? What do we do to make basic changes? Once we learn those changes\, how can we ?step it up? and figure out what to we?re supposed to do? How do we make images pop? And finally\, how do we put it all together and making finishing touches to our images.\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education for a course that helps answer many of these questions. Often\, Lightroom users struggle with the inability to determine what changes are ?good? or ?correct?. While those terms are subjective\, we will help you along in the editing process to see how to make determinations along the way.\nThis is a Multi-Session Class! In Week 1\, we will begin by discussing how to organize your images for quick retrieval via keywords\, ratings\, and more\, as well as giving a description on how to consider organizing your photos on your computer. Specifically\, we will cover brief computer file management\, the importance of keywords\, flagging and rating photos\, and searching metadata to find images. In Week 2\, we?ll start with the basic adjustments using Basic Development controls. More than anything\, we will be emphasizing global changes and understanding what can be done with an image in Lightroom. We?ll then dive into Color\, Curves\, Contrast & Clarity & Texture. These changes will help make your images pop. In Week 3\, we?ll discuss advanced editing\, including local adjustments\, such as radial and graduated filters\, and how to ?finish? the image- sharpening\, noise reduction\, and more.\nIn-between each session\, we will give assignments to help you become more proficient and grasp the material! This class is strongly recommended for anyone looking to further their skills with Lightroom!\nAn important note about this course! There are now a few different versions of Adobe Lightroom right now. This course is specifically on Adobe Lightroom Classic. The other version of Lightroom\, commonly known as ?Adobe Lightroom CC? (yes\, we understand you may be confused by this) is a more mobile and cloud-based program. The look and feel of the program is completely different? DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education as we discuss all the key elements of loading and developing film\, and get you to develop a roll on your own! In this workshop\, we will show you how to load film into a developing tank\, discuss the elements of the chemistry involved\, and other various aspects. Because of the many variables\, we will only be using one specific type of developer\, but we will discuss the possibilities of other developers available and their advantages.\nWe will provide tanks\, reels\, chemistry\, and basically anything that you need to develop your film. All you will need to have is a roll of film to develop. Important: Make sure the roll of film is black & white and not C-41.\nPlease note: Since your film will be wet at the end of the session\, you will leave it to dry and pick it up at a later time.

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Workshop: Water Drops (and more!)
DESCRIPTION:Water Drop Photography is a style wherein one drops a liquid into another liquid and photographs it in a way that emphasizes the “unseeable”–little droplets\, the corona of the drop\, and more. This style uses high speed flash in order to stop the action instead of fast shutter speed. It is a simple technique that can be achieved with even the most rudimentary gear\, but it can produce infinitely different results. Just like snowflakes\, you’ll never be able to duplicate a water drop.\nIn this workshop\, we will begin with a live demo describing the gear\, settings\, set-up\, and execution of water drop photography. We’ll then dive right in\, beginning simply and then moving on to not just water droplets\, but also other items! Photographers of all skill levels are welcome\, but one should come with patience!\nTwo important notes: We will be using flash in this workshop. You do not need to own a flash\, and we may use only what we have anyway\, but you are welcome to bring one if you have one in order to understand how to replicate it on your own. Also\, to minimize on gear and space\, we will be working in groups of two.

SUMMARY:Online: The Printed Vision- Surface Tension- Printing on Textured Papers (Print Review)
DESCRIPTION:About The Printed Vision Series\nThe printed image shows our successes and our faults at a much higher level of detail than the digital image. To become better photographers\, it helps to understand this by creating the printed image as a final product\, which is the purpose behind the Printed Vision Series.\nEach Printed Vision topic will meet for two sessions. In the first session\, we will discuss the topic and elaborate on editing with examples. This will include discussion of exposure\, dynamic range and color\, but also deeper points\, such as noise reduction\, image sharpening and grain. In between sessions 1 and 2\, attendees will independently process 1-2 images and submit them to the instructor for printing. We will print one of the two images leading into the second session and discuss some of the challenges we face in printing them.\nYou do not need to produce a new image for this class and can go into your archives to print\, but you are welcome to go out into the field and create something new based on the topic!\nThis Month’s Printed Vision Session: Printing on Textured Papers\nTextured papers often get the raw deal in the grand scheme of printing. After all\, they are matte papers–meaning they have no reflectivity– and those tend not to be as popular as the “shiny” gloss papers. But if you like Fine-Art Printing\, Textured Matte papers create a very unique look to your print. Even the names of some of these papers–William Turner\, Albrect Durer\, German Etching– recall some of the past masters of fine art! These papers exude a 3-dimensionality through their texture and\, given the proper image and effective processing\, can create an amazing fine-art print.\nIn this session\, we will spend our time looking at what sorts of images work best on textured papers\, how to process images for the best results\, and what different surfaces are available. We’ll also discuss color management through the process of editing and also look at best practices when working with monochrome.  Our instructional online presentation will be held on April 7th from 7-8pm and we will reconvene for our Printed Image Review on April 21st from 6-8pm. You will have that time period in between to photograph and/or edit your images. In the end\, you will receive TWO prints on fine art textured paper up to 13×19″. (Please note: The cost of a 13×19″ print on fine art textured paper is $40\, and you get two in this class!) DESCRIPTION:This is a great opportunity to build up your editing skills in Lightroom!\nAdobe Lightroom is the choice program for professionals and amateurs\, with ever-growing capabilities and options. However\, there are many levels to understanding in the program. How do we organize our photos? What do we do to make basic changes? Once we learn those changes\, how can we ?step it up? and figure out what to we?re supposed to do? How do we make images pop? And finally\, how do we put it all together and making finishing touches to our images.\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education for a course that helps answer many of these questions. Often\, Lightroom users struggle with the inability to determine what changes are ?good? or ?correct?. While those terms are subjective\, we will help you along in the editing process to see how to make determinations along the way.\nThis is a Multi-Session Class! In Week 1\, we will begin by discussing how to organize your images for quick retrieval via keywords\, ratings\, and more\, as well as giving a description on how to consider organizing your photos on your computer. Specifically\, we will cover brief computer file management\, the importance of keywords\, flagging and rating photos\, and searching metadata to find images. In Week 2\, we?ll start with the basic adjustments using Basic Development controls. More than anything\, we will be emphasizing global changes and understanding what can be done with an image in Lightroom. We?ll then dive into Color\, Curves\, Contrast & Clarity & Texture. These changes will help make your images pop. In Week 3\, we?ll discuss advanced editing\, including local adjustments\, such as radial and graduated filters\, and how to ?finish? the image- sharpening\, noise reduction\, and more.\nIn-between each session\, we will give assignments to help you become more proficient and grasp the material! This class is strongly recommended for anyone looking to further their skills with Lightroom!\nAn important note about this course! There are now a few different versions of Adobe Lightroom right now. This course is specifically on Adobe Lightroom Classic. The other version of Lightroom\, commonly known as ?Adobe Lightroom CC? (yes\, we understand you may be confused by this) is a more mobile and cloud-based program. The look and feel of the program is completely different? This course is specifically on Adobe Lightroom Classic. (See graphic on the right.) If you are unsure\, feel free to email us at classes@huntsphoto.com. Important: If you are taking this course\, make sure to download/update the program in advance\, as you will not be able to download the program at the store. Our patient and entertaining instructors will cover all the basics in this hands-on class\, including changing depth-of-field (controlling what?s in focus in the background)\, stopping or blurring the action in your scene\, and many other basic picture-taking techniques.\nOur two guarantees:\n?You will learn a lot!\n?You will have a fun time doing it!\nSome character references: \n\n?I was impressed with how well the class was run\, the amount of material covered so thoroughly and how all different camera types were incorporated without it causing issues. I was really impressed with the whole experience. Great instructors!!?\n?Everything was condensed and taught at a basic level which helped with the confusion I had before coming to class. Bottom Line: Great class for confused beginners.?\n?Everything about this class was excellent. The instructors were patient and took time to answer every question thoroughly and we were given ample time to try out the techniques we were being shown. All in all\, a wonderful experience.?\n?Very much liked the instructors- knowledgeable\, entertaining\, encouraging\, not judgmental. Loved the casual nature of the class and opportunity for one-on-one discussions. Excellent for me\, as a novice.?

SUMMARY:Analog Love- Working with Large Format Film: Portraits
DESCRIPTION:In the days of film\, 35mm was the standard format\, 120 was medium format (often called “2 1/4”\, describing it in inches)\, and anything larger than that was considered “large format”. Large Format film photography consisted of 4×5″ and larger sizes of negatives\, with 4×5 being the most common\, followed by 8×10″ and 5×7″. Large format films require specific cameras and lenses and are very different experiences than working with modern digital cameras.\nLarge format film photography creates large negatives\, and the advantage to those negatives are the vast detail that they capture as well as an incredible range of depth of field. Although modern digital cameras are amazing\, the large format “look” cannot be duplicated by modern cameras and is unique.\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education’s Paul Nelson\, who has been photographing with 4×5 cameras and film for over 20 years\, for the first in a series of classes on working with large format photography! In this workshop\, we will begin by learning the basics of large format cameras\, including setting up\, attaching lenses\, using the focusing rails\, learning how to focus\, and how to see focus on the ground glass. We’ll continue by loading film into film holders\, then put it all into practice by taking portraits! In the end\, we’ll develop the film and you’ll end up with some spectacular large format images!\nDoes this all sound foreign? Don’t fret!\n?If you don’t have a 4×5 camera\, we can provide you with one! Make sure to let us know upon registration if you will need a 4×5 camera!\n?You do not have to have ANY experience with large format or film photography! All you need is a passion for the subject!\n?We will provide up to 10 sheets of 4×5 film and film holders to each attendee. (If you plan to bring a camera larger than 4×5\, please let us know. An additional charge may apply for larger format films.)\n?We will provide any chemistry for developing black & white film.\nCome check out the incredible\, unique look of large format!
