SUMMARY:Hunt's Birding Walk: Photographing Birds at Mt. Auburn Cemetery
DESCRIPTION:Mt. Auburn Cemetery is one of Boston?s most beautiful green spaces. This large\, rolling parcel of land was America?s first garden-style cemetery. The historical 174-acre cemetery serves as a final resting place for the deceased\, but it is also an arboretum full of flowers\, flowering trees\, colorful shrubs\, architecture\, and wildlife.\nOn this Photo Walk\, we will specifically photograph the birds (and wildlife) in the cemetery! Because the grounds are filled with birds and other little critters\, it’s a great chance to work on the myriad elements that go into photographing them\, such as focusing\, exposure\, composition and more. Long telephoto lenses are strongly recommended for this walk\, and keep in mind that if you don’t have one\, you can always rent one from Hunt’s Photo Rentals!

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Walk: Golden Hour on the Charles River Esplanade
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for a photo walk featuring Golden Hour along the Charles River Esplanade.\nThe Charles River Esplanade has experienced immense changes over the past 100 years to what we see today. Originally “The Embankment”\, the area expanded in the first half of the 20th century to include boat landings\, playgrounds\, trees and plant life\, and the Hatch Memorial Shell. In the second half of the 20th century\, Storrow Drive and the Dr. Paul Dudley White Bike Path–an 18-mile stretch– were added.\nPhotography will start at the Storrow Lagoon location working our way along the Charles River and back towards the Longfellow Bridge. We will explore scenes and compositions as we go making use of the golden hour light until ending at our final location\, a dusk shot of the city of Boston and the Longfellow Bridge! Photographers of all skill levels are encouraged to attend!

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Walk: Bridge of Flowers\, Shelburne Falls
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for a walk to the picturesque ?Bridge of Flowers? in Shelburne Falls\, Massachusetts and the area surrounding it.\nShelburne Falls was once a great fishing area for Native Americans\, but progressed into a manufacturing town. This area has a nice view and allows for interesting shots of the falls. The old trolley bridge was converted into a walkway and managed by the women of the town. They planted flowers and shrubs to create a more pleasing atmosphere. Today\, thousands of visitors come to view this area and photograph the flowers.\nAlthough the falls setting is more of a landscape viewing\, the bridge of flowers poses an excellent opportunity for macro lovers. We will divide our time on this walk between macro/close-up photography on and around the bridge and landscape/longer exposure photography around the falls. This will be an excellent opportunity to utilize both macro lenses and neutral density filters.

SUMMARY:Hunt's Printed Vision Workshop: Creating Cyanotypes
DESCRIPTION:Intro: Tuesday June 14th\, 7-8pm ? Online! \nWorkshop: Saturday June 18th\, 9am-1pm ? Hunt’s Photo\, Melrose \nNormally we will say\, “The printed image shows our successes and our faults.” In this case\, the point of the printed image isn’t necessarily to show us those successes and faults\, but instead to create something ethereal and fascinating!\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education as we dive into a workshop that will quite literally bring you back to the days of film and hand-printing!\nCyanotypes are quite literally BLUE prints that can be simply made by placing a negative on top of a piece of coated paper (or other material) under UV light (or the sun) for a period of time. Once washed in water\, the resulting print produces a brilliant blue image on a white background.\nWe will begin this workshop with an introductory presentation where we will discuss the process\, materials needed\, and the preparation to be working with the cyanotype chemistry (see Misc notes above). We will also discuss how to create a digital negative. For this workshop\, we will be creating our own digital negatives from an inkjet printer\, so you don’t actually need a negative and you don’t need a printer\, as we will be printing them in the store. Finally\, we will also discuss what to print on. Because we will have the ability to coat a material\, be it paper or fabric\, you can use a variety of printing surfaces\, which will elaborate on.\nPlease note: We have recorded this introduction\, so if you’re signing up last minute\, you can still watch it!\nDuring the workshop\, we will dive into all these elements. We will go through the process of coating (and drying) papers and fabrics\, creating test and final prints\, and discussing additional elements to change the look of our final prints. This is a unique workshop that will emphasize creativity and process.\nA few items of note:\n?In this workshop\, we will be utilizing cyanotype chemistry\, consisting of ferric ammonium citrate (for light sensitivity) and potassium ferricyanide (for color). As described by the chemistry company Photographers Formulary\, “…[Potassium Ferricyanide] is not particularly toxic… [unless] placed in a strong acid solution; however\, strong acid is not used in the cyanotype process.”\n?Because we will be working with chemistry\, you must follow all instructions given regarding chemistry and personal protective equipment.\n?Because this chemistry can stain\, we will be taking precautions and wearing gloves. We strongly recommend bringing an apron\, one that you won’t mind if it changes colors.

SUMMARY:Food Photography Series- Baked Goodness!
DESCRIPTION:Beware! These classes will make your mouth water!\nPresenting Hunt’s Photo Education’s Food Photography Series! In these hands-on workshops\, we will cover all aspects of food photography: exposure\, composition\, styling\, working with food\, lighting\, props\, and more. In this workshop– Baked Goodness– we will specifically be working with…you guessed it! We will cover many of the basics for beginners and add challenges for more advanced food photographers. Baked goods are *easier* to work with than some of the other foods because of their stability as a product\, allowing us to spend more time “getting it right”.\nFor this workshop\, baked goods will be provided\, but photographers are welcome to bring their own baked goods as well! We will also provide lighting and diffusers. Photographers are welcome to bring their own additional props.

SUMMARY:Hunt's Street Photography Walk: Chinatown in the Evening
DESCRIPTION:For this workshop\, we will be working on Street Photography in Chinatown and Downtown Crossing. Chinatown and Downtown Crossing (and areas in between) are easily recognizable areas in downtown Boston. Boston’s Chinatown is quite small in size\, but has many unique sites and is the last remaining historic Chinese area in New England. Downtown Crossing is home to street vendors and a myriad number of shopping establishments. Sandwiched in between is the Theater District of Boston. All three provide excellent opportunities to photograph the unique architecture and people of the area.\nThis walk is a terrific opportunity to work on street and candid photography\, with plenty of subject matter. We will discuss managing ISO and shutter speed in low-light conditions to never miss a shot\, as well as the art of blending in and going unnoticed.\nWe will also try to get it all right in camera! While you are welcome to shoot in RAW\, we’ll also discuss the joy of shooting for the end result in JPEG! Join us for a fun walk!!

SUMMARY:Online: Personal Vision Series- Narrow Depth of Field (on Purpose)
DESCRIPTION:Introductory Presentation Wed June 22nd\, 7pm EST\nImage Review Wed July 6th\, 7pm EST\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education as we help grow your knowledge\, creativity\, and artistic expression with our expanded Personal Vision Series. These classes are designed to provide you time\, opportunity\, and guidance in shaping your creative photographic voice. We will give an overview on a specific topic in an online class session\, then give you time to go into the field by yourself (or with someone else\, if you choose) to complete an assignment based on that topic. We will reconvene a few days later for an online image review to discuss elements of your images.\nThe Personal Vision Series is a crossroads of many different ideas that we offer with Hunt’s Photo Education: Topic-based instruction/classes\, Photo Walks\, & Image Reviews. However\, unlike a Photo Walk where we will all take a certain direction\, for the ?Walk? portion\, you will be asked to journey out on your own to photograph. This will cause you to be the driving force of your creativity and vision!\nThis month?s topic is Narrow Depth of Field (on Purpose). We will have an instructional online presentation on the first date and will reconvene for our Image Review on the second date. You will have that time period in between to photograph and edit our assignment.\nYour personal creative voice is critical to your growth as a photographer and as an artist. Join us for to help grow that voice!

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Test Drive: Exploring Back Bay with the Leica SL2-S
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo and Leica Product Specialist\, John Kreidler\, as we explore the streets of Back Bay with the Leica SL2-S. While having a Leica Camera is not a requirement for this event\, we will have a limited supply of SL2-S cameras available on a first come\, first serve basis. A SD card\, photo ID and credit card are required to borrow a camera. Arrive early to secure one of the loaner cameras.\nThe light of the city becomes more interesting as we approach dusk. The long shadows created by the stunning architecture give us a great contrast to the low direct light and creating pockets of light for us to insert our subject. This will be a great chance to try out a unique camera in a perfect situation.\nPlease note: The cost of the Test Drive event is $25. However\, you will receive a $25 gift card to Hunt’s for attending\, so it?s a win-win!\nAbout John Kreidler: John Kreidler is the East Coast Product Specialist and co-host of Leica?s streaming Tech Talk program on YouTube. John brings more than 25 years? experience providing imaging and production insight to professional photographers and enthusiasts alike. Equal parts\, photographer\, educator\, and trainer\, John can frequently be found\, giving those interested in Leica products an opportunity to experience them in a real-life situation\, during Pro Discovery Days\, Leica Store events and Akademie workshops\, throughout the country. An accomplished photographer\, his on-going obsession with capturing light and shadow started from an early age. He strives to move beyond the beautiful snapshot and create an image that evokes emotion in the viewer?s mind. Most recently\, John?s work was selected to appear in the new book\, ?Inspiration Leica Akademie?.\n@leicaproimage
