SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Walk: Haverhill at Night in Black & White
DESCRIPTION:Join instructor Don Toothaker for a special photo walk in Haverhill\, MA where we will concentrate on being able to see and photograph in Black & White. During the walk\, we will also discuss elements that contribute to become more adept at both Black and White and night photography\, including exposure\, focusing\, composition and much more! Photographers of all skill levels are welcome!\nHaverhill\, Massachusetts was once known as the “Queen Slipper City” for its high percentage of shoes produced in the town. The town retains the look of a manufacturing town\, and this look translates extremely well to the look of Black & White photography. On this walk\, we will move about the downtown area and along the Merrimack River at dusk and into the night. Our task will be to focus our energies into how to effectively see and create images in Black & White.

SUMMARY:Online: Personal Vision Series- "Shallow Depth of Field"
DESCRIPTION:Introductory Presentation Tue Mar 28th\, 7pm EDT\nImage Review Wed Apr 12th\, 7pm EDT\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education as we help grow your knowledge\, creativity\, and artistic expression with our expanded Personal Vision Series. These classes are designed to provide you time\, opportunity\, and guidance in shaping your creative photographic voice. We will give an overview on a specific topic in an online class session\, then give you time to go into the field by yourself (or with someone else\, if you choose) to complete an assignment based on that topic. We will reconvene a few days later for an online image review to discuss elements of your images.\nThe Personal Vision Series is a crossroads of many different ideas that we offer with Hunt’s Photo Education: Topic-based instruction/classes\, Photo Walks\, & Image Reviews. However\, unlike a Photo Walk where we will all take a certain direction\, for the ?Walk? portion\, you will be asked to journey out on your own to photograph. This will cause you to be the driving force of your creativity and vision!\nThis month?s topic is “Shallow Depth of Field”. We will have an instructional online presentation on the first date and will reconvene for our Image Review on the second date. You will have that time period in between to photograph and edit our assignment.\nYour personal creative voice is critical to your growth as a photographer and as an artist. Join us for to help grow that voice!

SUMMARY:Hunt's Printed Vision Workshop: Creating Cyanotypes- Hunt's Photo\, Providence
DESCRIPTION:Intro: Thursday\, March 9th\, 7-8pm ? Online! \nWorkshop: Sunday March 12th\, 10am-2pm ? Hunt’s Photo\, Providence \nNormally we will say\, “The printed image shows our successes and our faults.” In this case\, the point of the printed image isn’t necessarily to show us those successes and faults\, but instead to create something ethereal and fascinating!\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education as we dive into a workshop that will quite literally bring you back to the days of film and hand-printing!\nCyanotypes are quite literally BLUE prints that can be simply made by placing a negative on top of a piece of coated paper (or other material) under UV light (or the sun) for a period of time. Once washed in water\, the resulting print produces a brilliant blue image on a white background.\nWe will begin this workshop with an introductory presentation where we will discuss the process\, materials needed\, and the preparation to be working with the cyanotype chemistry (see Misc notes above). We will also discuss how to create a digital negative. For this workshop\, we will be creating our own digital negatives from an inkjet printer\, so you don’t actually need a negative and you don’t need a printer\, as we will be printing them in the store. Finally\, we will also discuss what to print on. Because we will have the ability to coat a material\, be it paper or fabric\, you can use a variety of printing surfaces\, which will elaborate on.\nPlease note: We have recorded this introduction\, so if you’re signing up last minute\, you can still watch it!\nDuring the workshop\, we will dive into all these elements. We will go through the process of coating (and drying) papers and fabrics\, creating test and final prints\, and discussing additional elements to change the look of our final prints. This is a unique workshop that will emphasize creativity and process.\nA few items of note:\n?In this workshop\, we will be utilizing cyanotype chemistry\, consisting of ferric ammonium citrate (for light sensitivity) and potassium ferricyanide (for color). As described by the chemistry company Photographers Formulary\, “…[Potassium Ferricyanide] is not particularly toxic… [unless] placed in a strong acid solution; however\, strong acid is not used in the cyanotype process.”\n?Because we will be working with chemistry\, you must follow all instructions given regarding chemistry and personal protective equipment.\n?Because this chemistry can stain\, we will be taking precautions and wearing gloves. We strongly recommend bringing an apron\, one that you won’t mind if it changes colors.

Our assignment will be to capture a sense of “Emptiness” found and seen in York during the off season. Each attendee will work to create images that they feel represent the assignment to the best of their ability.

SUMMARY:Hunt's Street Photography Walk: Chinatown in the Morning
DESCRIPTION:For this workshop\, we will be working on Street Photography in Chinatown and Downtown Crossing. Chinatown and Downtown Crossing (and areas in between) are easily recognizable areas in downtown Boston. Boston’s Chinatown is quite small in size\, but has many unique sites and is the last remaining historic Chinese area in New England. Downtown Crossing is home to street vendors and a myriad number of shopping establishments. Sandwiched in between is the Theater District of Boston. All three provide excellent opportunities to photograph the unique architecture and people of the area.\nThis walk is a terrific opportunity to work on street and candid photography\, with plenty of subject matter. We will discuss managing ISO and shutter speed in low-light conditions to never miss a shot\, as well as the art of blending in and going unnoticed.\nWe will also try to get it all right in camera! While you are welcome to shoot in RAW\, we’ll also discuss the joy of shooting for the end result in JPEG! Join us for a fun walk!!

SUMMARY:Special Guest Series- Tintype Demonstration and Portraits with Evoke Tintype
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education and Evoke Tintype for a unique demonstration on tintype photography!\nTintypes are photographs that are created with large format (film) cameras using metal plates coated with light sensitive emulsion. After the plate is coated and sensitized\, it is put into the large format camera and the photograph is taken\, then immediately brought back into the darkroom for development. In all\, the whole process takes about 10-15 minutes per photograph\, and while time consuming\, it produces a stellar\, one-of-a-kind photograph that will last a lifetime! This process originated in the 1850s and went out of style by the early 1900s\, but has made a resurgence in recent years with its unique\, piercing look and magnificent level of detail.\nIn this session\, Evoke Tintype?Maureen Feeley and Dave Caramello? will demonstrate the entire tintype process\, including coating and sensitizing the metal plates\, the basic gear setup\, taking the photograph\, developing the plate\, and will discuss varnishing the end result. Each attendee will have the ability to ask questions and will have one custom portrait (5×7 in size) taken of themselves that they will be able to keep after the workshop is completed. (Please note: The plates will need to be further washed\, dried\, and then varnished after the workshop. This process won’t take excessively long\, but the plates won’t be ready on the day of the workshop and will need to be picked up at the store a few days later.)\nAttendees will also be given the opportunity to coat their own metal plate for their print. Due to the equipment required\, please note that the portraits will all be taken by Evoke Tintype. However\, attendees will have the ability to see the full process and any questions on the process or gear can be answered.\nTake a step into the past with this beautiful form of photographic expression!\nIMPORTANT NOTE: If you don’t want to have a Tintype portrait taken of you\, but would prefer a still life\, we can certainly do that. Simply let us know after registering by emailing us at classes@huntsphoto.com.\nAbout Evoke Tintype: It?s been said that making art is about making connections. As the pandemic wore on\, we saw photography as a way to connect with people. It also brought about our desire to search for a new purpose and path. And while tintype photography is stepping back to an old way of doing things\, it seemed this unique art form was the perfect vehicle to take us forward on our new journey.\nPictures themselves are ubiquitous today; everybody?s phone has a zillion of them. But some\, such as tintypes\, had the emotional currency to lift spirits and warm hearts. Little did we know we?d soon discover a long-dormant photo process that evoked surprising emotion in and of itself. The first time seeing a tin-type image was breathtaking. So much so that we never picked up our digital cameras again. The opportunity to make your image is a privilege and it means something special to us. Our goal is to create a timeless heirloom that means something special to you.

SUMMARY:Online: Personal Vision Series- "Minimalism"
DESCRIPTION:Introductory Presentation Fri Mar 3rd\, 7pm EST\nImage Review Thu Mar 16th\, 7pm EST\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education as we help grow your knowledge\, creativity\, and artistic expression with our expanded Personal Vision Series. This will cause you to be the driving force of your creativity and vision!\nThis month?s topic is “Minimalism”. We will have an instructional online presentation on the first date and will reconvene for our Image Review on the second date. You will have that time period in between to photograph and edit our assignment.\nYour personal creative voice is critical to your growth as a photographer and as an artist. Join us for to help grow that voice!

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Walk: A Winter Day at Olde Sturbridge Village
DESCRIPTION:Located an hour west of Boston\, Sturbridge Village is a proud replication of an 18th century New England town. Sturbridge Village is a living history museum that features many authentic period buildings and homes to explore and enjoy. The village is also inhabited by re-enactors who provide colorful insight to life in New England during the 18th century. Sturbridge Village is a wonderful destination for a multitude of photographic opportunities as well as a glimpse into a bygone era.\nOlde Sturbridge Village is perhaps one of the best places to have both a Photo Walk and a class. There’s a little bit of everything at this living history museum\, from macro and closeup with fine details to architecture\, from portraits to landscapes. We will photograph both indoors and outdoors\, in regular light as well as very low light. We will discuss how to work with subjects to create a story\, and also work on settings to fine-tune focus and exposure! This Photo Walk is one of the best opportunities to build your photographic knowledge\, no matter what level. This walk is equally as beneficial as a first walk or a twentieth walk\, as the area has so much to offer!\nJoin us for a great experience!\nPlease note: The cost of your ticket does NOT include the cost of your entrance into Olde Sturbridge Village\, which can be purchased here: https://www.osv.org/plan-your-visit/

SUMMARY:Online: Personal Vision Series- "Composition"
DESCRIPTION:Introductory Presentation Thu Feb 9th\, 7pm EST\nImage Review Wed Mar 1st\, 7pm EST\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education as we help grow your knowledge\, creativity\, and artistic expression with our expanded Personal Vision Series. This will cause you to be the driving force of your creativity and vision!\nThis month?s topic is “Composition”. We will have an instructional online presentation on the first date and will reconvene for our Image Review on the second date. You will have that time period in between to photograph and edit our assignment.\nYour personal creative voice is critical to your growth as a photographer and as an artist. Join us for to help grow that voice!
