SUMMARY:Hunt's Birding Walk: Photographing Birds at Mt. Auburn Cemetery
DESCRIPTION:Mt. Auburn Cemetery is one of Boston?s most beautiful green spaces. This large\, rolling parcel of land was America?s first garden-style cemetery. The historical 174-acre cemetery serves as a final resting place for the deceased\, but it is also an arboretum full of flowers\, flowering trees\, colorful shrubs\, architecture\, and wildlife.\nOn this Photo Walk\, we will specifically photograph the birds (and wildlife) in the cemetery! Because the grounds are filled with birds and other little critters\, it’s a great chance to work on the myriad elements that go into photographing them\, such as focusing\, exposure\, composition and more. Long telephoto lenses are strongly recommended for this walk\, and keep in mind that if you don’t have one\, you can always rent one from Hunt’s Photo Rentals!

And while we also offer other wonderful Beginner Photography classes to get you started\, nothing is truly the same as hands-on in-the-field! It?s important to fully understand the ?why? and ?how? of your camera settings.\nIn this outdoor\, hands-on class\, you’ll learn all about the basics of photography. We will discuss Exposure (how light works with the camera)\, the Big Three Settings (Aperture\, Shutter Speed\, & ISO)\, how they affect your picture and how to set them\, and what mode to set it to on your camera! We’ll discuss changing depth-of-field (controlling what?s in focus in the background)\, stopping or blurring the action in your scene\, and many other basic picture-taking techniques. This will be an excellent opportunity to learn about your camera in a fun and safe environment! SUMMARY:Hunt's Street Photography Walk: Chinatown in the Morning
DESCRIPTION:For this workshop\, we will be working on Street Photography in Chinatown and Downtown Crossing. Chinatown and Downtown Crossing (and areas in between) are easily recognizable areas in downtown Boston. Boston’s Chinatown is quite small in size\, but has many unique sites and is the last remaining historic Chinese area in New England. Downtown Crossing is home to street vendors and a myriad number of shopping establishments. Sandwiched in between is the Theater District of Boston. All three provide excellent opportunities to photograph the unique architecture and people of the area.\nThis walk is a terrific opportunity to work on street and candid photography\, with plenty of subject matter. We will discuss managing ISO and shutter speed in low-light conditions to never miss a shot\, as well as the art of blending in and going unnoticed.\nWe will also try to get it all right in camera! While you are welcome to shoot in RAW\, we’ll also discuss the joy of shooting for the end result in JPEG! Join us for a fun walk!!

This class is designed for photographers who want to learn how to pose couples\, and put their subjects at ease. For this workshop\, we will be photographing outside in natural light at the Arnold Arboretum in Boston. DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for a unique\, fun\, and picturesque Photo Walk involving creating long exposure light trails from spinning wool! Spinning wool to create sparks is a fun (and fairly easy) exercise\, but requires a bit of explanation and some safety tips. Hunt’s Photo Educator Ron Phillips will be giving a lesson in how to spin wool and will discuss everything from safety precautions\, execution on how to spin for greater effect\, and how to integrate it with your camera in long exposures. A tripod is required for this walk.

DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education as we explore Horn Pond’s 102-acre body of water along the Aberjona River in Woburn\, Massachusetts and focus on locating and photographing the many birds that inhabit the area! Of greatest importance\, we will work on understanding and executing the appropriate settings on our cameras! We may have a chance at some hummingbirds\, as well as other birds in the area\, and we will benefit from the flowers of the season. Photographers of all skill levels are encouraged to attend!\nHorn Pond is a wonderfully scenic area\, offering many outdoor activities such as hiking and bike riding. These same trails are an excellent place to explore many types of photographic opportunities\, emphasizing nature\, landscape\, and macro. On many of our walks\, the quality of day can positively or negatively affect how our images turn out. On this walk\, we will emphasize making the best out of any situation\, whether cloudy\, sunny or rainy (well\, not too rainy). Bring your creative thoughts!\nWe recommend having both a standard zoom lens and telephoto zoom lens\, preferably one that will go to 200mm or above.\nPlease note: There will be a good amount of walking on this Photo Walk. Nothing too treacherous\, but make sure to wear comfortable shoes!

During the walk\, we will discuss many of the aspects of photographing in low light and at night\, including exposure\, focusing\, composition\, and more. Photographers of all levels are welcome!\nDavis Square is located in the heart of Somerville and is a vibrant mix of shops\, restaurants\, and bustling streets of cars and people. Located down the street from Tufts University\, Davis has seen a number of resurgences in recent years\, making it a wonderful place to eat\, shop\, or just walk around. Davis is the home to the famous Somerville Theater\, the Rosebud–formerly a dining car\, now a restaurant– and the “10 Figures” statues. It’s a great place to visit\, as well as a spectacular experience to photograph.

The historical 174-acre cemetery serves as a final resting place for the deceased\, but it is also an arboretum full of flowers\, flowering trees\, colorful shrubs\, architecture\, and wildlife.\nOn this Photo Walk\, we will specifically photograph the cemetery in spring bloom! This will be a fantastic opportunity to work on macro while photographing flowers\, all within the confines of the beautiful rolling landscapes of Mt. Auburn Cemetery.

From 4-6pm\, riders will maneuver the horses for us to have various action scenes\, vantage points\, details\, and creative opportunities. However\, unlike a Photo Walk where we will all take a certain direction\, for the “Walk” portion\, you will be asked to journey out on your own to photograph. This is a question that we have brought up many times in the past\, but during this multi-session class\, we will be able to explore many different elements of black and white photography from how to choose a suitable black and white subject to how to process an image effectively.\nFor this course\, we’ll start with an introduction to black & white photography in the first session (April 13th)\, discussing the basics of what makes a good black and white images. We’ll then continue the following night on the editing essentials of black and white using Adobe Lightroom Classic (April 14th). We will put into practice these skills the following day\, as we hold a Black and White-only Photo Walk in Rockport\, Massachusetts (April 15th).  In our final session\, we will have a full image critique of three images created during the walk to Rockport (April 20th).\nThis is a unique chance to really dig in and work in black & white!\nPhotographers should have an understanding of exposure before taking this class.

Spinning wool to create sparks is a fun (and fairly easy) exercise\, but requires a bit of explanation and some safety tips. Hunt’s Photo\, Manchester\n Image Review: Wednesday April 13th\, 7pm ??Online!\nLensbaby lenses are a unique series of lenses\, available for most camera systems that give a variety of looks and effects. From swirling bokeh to dramatic vignettes\, velvety glows to swirly blurs\, and often with a bright sharp center\, these lenses present a unique style for the user experience.\nLensbaby lenses are also not always the easiest to use or understand and require a lot of practice and fine-tuning. In this workshop\, we will be working exclusively with Lensbaby to create a variety of images\, from macro and still life and beyond.\nWe will begin with a demo discussing using Lensbaby\, how to appropriately use the lenses\, creating setups\, and then dive right into individuals photographing their own setups. We will follow up the workshop with an image review the next week to discuss the merits (and pitfalls) in photographing with Lensbaby.\nThis will be an excellent way to workshop your lens and is recommended for anyone that has struggled with or has questions on Lensbaby!

Unfortunately\, they can be a finicky tool\, difficult to understand.\nBut they don’t need to be! With a little bit of know-how\, you can create excellent portraits ANYWHERE using your speedlight!\nIn this Creating Portraits with Speedlights Session\, we’ll discuss\, demonstrate\, and then practice with models how to set up a great portrait anywhere using the simplest of tools and methods.
