DESCRIPTION:Introductory Presentation Monday August 22nd\, 7pm EST\nImage Review Monday August 29th\, 7pm EST\nPhotography can be a very technical process\, but more important than the technical prowess of your photograph is the creative center. Join Hunt’s Photo Education’s lead educator Emily Hojnowski on our expanded Alt-Creative Series\, which is all about digging deep into many creative elements in an alternative method of photography! In these classes\, we will give an overview on a specific topic in an online class session\, then give you time to go into the field to complete an assignment based on that topic. We will reconvene a few days later for an online image review to discuss elements of your images.\nThis month?s topic is Adding Textures in Your Photographs. In the first session\, we will discuss all about textures: why and how to create them\, and how to apply them to your photographs. We will give an overview of how to utilize Photoshop for these aspects.  We will then reconvene for our Image Review on the second date\, giving you time in between to create and edit our assignment.\nJoin us\, do something fun\, and get creative!

SUMMARY:Creative Concept Workshop: Food Drops (and Floating Objects!)
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Educators Ron Phillips and Paul Nelson for a unique\, informative\, and fun workshop! Drop some food\, take some pictures\, and have some fun!\nPhotography often starts with an idea\, but sometimes those ideas require post-processing to make them a reality. ?I want to capture food in mid-air falling onto a plate.? You know it can be done\, but how can we do it? Ultimately\, this is achieved through the combination of good lighting\, a good setup and technique\, and finally\, multiple exposures combined in post-processing. And while it sounds difficult\, our goal in this workshop will be to break it all down and use simple techniques to get an amazing finished product!\nWe’ll begin with the concept\, pictured above. Working in groups of two\, we will put together the lighting for the scene and set up the composition. Then we will photograph and work on technique and execution. Once we have successful images\, we will then dive into post-processing using Adobe Lightroom & Photoshop\, combining exposures to make an amazing end result.\nA note on editing requirements: For best results\, attendees should bring a laptop with Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop installed (and updated). You do not need to be an expert\, but you should have some familiarity with Lightroom and Photoshop.

Lensbabies are a unique series of lenses\, available for most camera systems that give a variety of looks and effects\, from swirling bokeh to dramatic vignettes\, velvety glows to swirly blurs\, and often with a bright sharp center.\nIn this workshop\, we will be working exclusively with Lensbabies at the Gardens. This will be an excellent way to workshop your lens and is recommended for anyone that has struggled with or has questions on Lensbaby!\nDue to space constraints\, we will also be working handheld–without tripods! We will maximize our quality to get the best shot while in this situation! This is a great exercise to work handheld to get the best shot!\nFuller Gardens is a public\, non-profit botanical garden in North Hampton\, New Hampshire. SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Workshop: Wiscasset Railroad and WWI Reenactment
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for a unique workshop at the Wiscasset\, Waterville\, and Farmington Railway in Alna\, Maine. On the workshop\, we will photograph around the train yard of steam locomotives running\, and also be present for (and photograph) a World War 1 Re-Enactment Encampment full of soldiers in period uniforms and attire.\nThe Wiscasset\, Waterville\, and Farmington Railway was developed in the late-1800s for a planned (but never realized) line to Quebec. The line\, which never made it to Waterville or Farmington\, was abandoned in the 1930s. The WW&F Railway Museum was developed over a shorter portion of the track and contains a fully restored and operational steam train and (occasionally) hosts reenactments.

DESCRIPTION:Have you attended a recent Hunt’s Photo Walk or Adventure and want to get a print made? Do you either want to learn a little bit about the editing process or get a professional’s opinion?   If the answers to these questions are “yes”\, this will be an excellent opportunity to take advantage of our Hunt’s Photo Walk Printing Series.\nHere’s how it works: If you’ve taken a Hunt’s Photo Walk or Adventure recently\, you are welcome to sign up for the class! (There really isn’t a date limitation\, but we always encourage printing an image within a few months.) Upon signing up\, you will receive an email reading “Confirmation for Hunt’s Photo Walk and Adventure Printing Series”. In that email will be a few basic instructions\, including what images to consider\, what type of image to submit\, and where to upload the images. (We ask that images are uploaded a few days prior to class date so that we have enough time to review and print them.) We will then go through the images for review in a video recording\, discussing exposure\, cropping/composition\, print sizing\, color\, and paper options that may fit with the image. We’ll send you that review\, and upon your approval\, make the prints. We will then regroup for a full print review on the date listed above. You can attend that session live in our Melrose store location or online!\nThe printed image shows our successes and our faults at a much higher level of detail than the digital image. To become better photographers\, it helps to understand this by creating the printed image as a final product.\nWe hope to see you there for this fun experience!\n*Please note: The cost of this class includes the image review and printing of the image up to 13×19″. Extra prints and/or larger prints can also be produced for an additional charge.

It?s important to fully understand the ?why? and ?how? of your camera settings.\nIn this outdoor\, hands-on class\, you’ll learn all about the basics of photography. We will discuss Exposure (how light works with the camera)\, the Big Three Settings (Aperture\, Shutter Speed\, & ISO)\, how they affect your picture and how to set them\, and what mode to set it to on your camera! We’ll discuss changing depth-of-field (controlling what?s in focus in the background)\, stopping or blurring the action in your scene\, and many other basic picture-taking techniques. This will be an excellent opportunity to learn about your camera in a fun and safe environment! Join us to strengthen your photographic knowledge!\nIn this session of Beginner Photography in the Field…\n…we will be going to Dorrs Pond in Manchester\, New Hampshire\, in the evening! Dorrs Pond is a recreational area with a gorgeous nature trail that leads around the pond with lots of birds! In this Beginner Photography in the Field class\, we will emphasize working on shooting in lower light conditions and long exposures\, with the aid of a tripod. This will be a fun and unique experience that will be a rewarding experience for any photographer!

The town features a blend of new and old architecture amid a variety of shops\, restaurants\, docks\, boats\, and colors.  The end of the day and night time is a rich and beautiful time for creating photographs.  We will discuss and demonstrate various techniques for shooting in low light scenarios in and around Portsmouth using available light.

DESCRIPTION:Frogs! Turtles! Flowers! The pond at La Salette Shrine has so many fun things to photograph\, many of which you don’t have a lot of normal access to!\nOn this walk\, we will emphasize using super telephoto lenses (that’s lenses that go up to 600mm!) to get really exquisite close-ups of many of these aquatic creatures. If you don’t have a lens to 600mm\, any telephoto lens will certainly work (But always remember that we have a rental department- rentals.huntsphoto.com.\nWe will also be joined on this walk by our Sony rep\, Jon Helgason. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a morning of learning what filters we want to use in photography\, how to use them\, and then go out into the field to get some hands-on practice!\nWe will begin in our Hunt’s Photo Manchester classroom to learn about filters\, how to use them properly\, how to attach them to the camera\, and\, if applicable\, purchase filters. We will then travel ~22 minutes to our waterfall location to practice long exposures. (Please note: Our location is TBA. To minimize confusion\, we will let you know in the confirmation email after purchase.) There are many small falls here – wide angle\, normal zoom\, and telephoto are all recommended. UV\, Circular Polarizer (CPL)\, and Neutral Density (ND) filters are all recommended. Students may choose to shoot from the banks of the river\, but the best shots will happen by walking along some rocks. Waterproof boots are your friend!\nWhether you’ve used filters and still have questions\, you’ve never used filters\, or you need a little inspiration\, this is a great opportunity to have some fun with filters!

Photographers may choose from multiple focal lengths across the Batis & Loxia (Sony E)\, Milvus & Otus (Nikon F & Canon EF)\,  and Touit (Fujifilm X) lines. (*ZEISS ZM lenses for Leica M are also available for loan but these must be specially requested a minimum of 14-days before the event.)\nZEISS Representatives will also be on-site at the Hunt’s Photo Cambridge store on October 8th and 9th to demo ZEISS lenses and answer your questions.\nKenneth Hines\, Jr. is a multi-discipline photographer from Atlanta\, Georgia\, based in Atlanta and New York City. Kenneth is currently an Ambassador for ZEISS Camera Lenses\, SIRUI Imaging and Haida Filters\, and the Adobe Lightroom 2021 splash screen cover photo artist. He devotes time to his online community\, Professor Hines Choice\, helping educate photographers in various areas of photography\, from understanding camera and lens technology\, to improving photographic skills and post-processing techniques in Lightroom.

DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education as we explore Horn Pond’s 102-acre body of water along the Aberjona River in Woburn\, Massachusetts. On this walk\, we will have numerous shooting opportunities from birds to flowers to landscapes and more\, all in the autumn season! Photographers of all skill levels are encouraged to attend!\nHorn Pond is a wonderfully scenic area\, offering many outdoor activities such as hiking and bike riding. These same trails are an excellent place to explore many types of photographic opportunities\, emphasizing nature\, landscape\, and macro. On many of our walks\, the quality of day can positively or negatively affect how our images turn out. On this walk\, we will emphasize making the best out of any situation\, whether cloudy\, sunny or rainy (well\, not too rainy). Bring your creative thoughts!\n***Side note: Our Sony rep\, Jon Helgason\, will be joining us on this walk. DESCRIPTION:Join two award-winning New England landscape photographers (and guest instructors for Hunt’s Photo)\, Andy Leclerc and Jamie Malcolm-Brown\, on October 15th to explore and learn how to capture stunning images at Chapel Falls in Ashfield\, MA. This breathtaking waterfall features three distinct cascades that will allow you to learn how to capture and edit unique photos.\nThe first cascade is less than 100 feet from the parking area\, with the other two just a few minutes walk down the path.\nAndy and Jamie will teach you the basics of capturing waterfalls\, including what gear and settings to use for your desired outcome\, the best weather and time of year to visit different waterfalls\, and advanced techniques such as median blending\, panoramas\, and focus stacking.\nThis workshop also includes a 90-minute Zoom editing session where you will learn Jamie and Andy’s techniques for bringing out the most of what we captured at the workshop.

SUMMARY:The Horror! Hunt's Horror Lighting Portrait Workshop!
DESCRIPTION:It’s the scariest time of the year. No\, we’re not talking about tax season– It’s Halloween! As such\, we wanted to create a truly garish workshop that was instructive as it is fun\, creating truly unique imagery that you really won’t be able to get anywhere else. Lighting for Horror! In this workshop\, we will create portraits utilizing a style of lighting reminiscent to that used in Horror films!\nIn this workshop\, we will begin by discussing the style of Horror Lighting\, using examples from the history of horror\, from classic 1930s Universal horror films to 1980s slasher to more modern\, experimental techniques. Instructor Paul Nelson has spent painstaking hours and buckets of popcorn to research the intricacies of horror\, and\, believe it or not\, it’s not all just “monster lighting”. We will then photograph both inside and (if weather allows) outside to both recreate and create new in-the-style-of scenes to photograph. We will utilize both our Hunt’s Photo Melrose classrooms as well as locations in the surrounding area to great affect. We’ll discuss how to light and what to use\, create shadows and textures\, use studio space and real-life locations\, work with models and more!\nIn this workshop\, we will cover:\n? How to compose the lighting in a scene\, including how and when to use flash vs LED\n??Flash and LED lighting (important enough to write it on here twice)\n??Using lighting indoor or outside\n??Creating dynamic shadows and effects in your work with lighting\, as well as other light modification\n? How to work with (posing and directing) models to achieve a desired look\n? Developing a creative concept in portraits\, not only using lighting and posing\, but also costumes\, hair\, and make-up\nYou do not need to own a flash or lighting to attend this workshop. Photographers of all skill levels are encouraged to attend.\nJoin us for this unique\, fun\, and perhaps horrific workshop!
