SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Workshop: Water Drops (and more!)
DESCRIPTION:Water Drop Photography is a style wherein one drops a liquid into another liquid and photographs it in a way that emphasizes the “unseeable”–little droplets\, the corona of the drop\, and more. This style uses high speed flash in order to stop the action instead of fast shutter speed. It is a simple technique that can be achieved with even the most rudimentary gear\, but it can produce infinitely different results. Just like snowflakes\, you’ll never be able to duplicate a water drop.\nIn this workshop\, we will begin with a live demo describing the gear\, settings\, set-up\, and execution of water drop photography. We’ll then dive right in\, beginning simply and then moving on to not just water droplets\, but also other items! Photographers of all skill levels are welcome\, but one should come with patience!\nTwo important notes: We will be using flash in this workshop. You do not need to own a flash\, and we may use only what we have anyway\, but you are welcome to bring one if you have one in order to understand how to replicate it on your own. Also\, to minimize on gear and space\, we will be working in groups of two.

DESCRIPTION:Who doesn’t love a nice tack-sharp flower photo? Or a beautiful landscape\, in focus from foreground to background? These images can be created effortlessly\, but sometimes\, there may be a little more effort than you might think!\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Educator Emily Hojnowski for a workshop involving Focus Stacking–the process of combining multiple images\, each with a different focal point\, in order to create an image with far greater depth of field in which all (or most) of the image is in focus!\nOur workshop will begin with our Intro to Focus Stacking class (Tuesday\, January 23rd). Your registration to this workshop will INCLUDE that class.\nOn Saturday January 27th\, we will work hands-on in the classroom creating focus stacks. We will discuss a myriad of factors\, from subject and composition to camera settings\, tripod effectiveness\, and more! About 3/4 through the workshop\, we will stop photographing and review the stacks on your computer. (While it’s great to bring your computer\, if you cannot\, you are welcome to hand the files off to us and we will demo the process in class with your images.) We will provide feedback\, then give an assignment to create ANOTHER focus stack on your own before our image review session on Monday February 5th!\nThis is a fantastic opportunity to workshop this process from start to finish\, and receive feedback along the way!

SUMMARY:Capture to Print: Flowers and Macro Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Printing your photos will make you a better photographer. The first step to creating a great print is by understanding how to create a great photograph in the field.\nCapture-To-Print is an intermediate workshop that focuses not only on photography\, but also editing and printing! Half photo workshop\, half editing and printing\, we will take you through the whole process–from Capture to Print— to demonstrate what is important in the field\, how to effectively process photos\, and why printing is a necessity.\nWe will begin in our classroom with lighting setups and a variety of flowers\, which we will photograph over the course of the morning. We will transition from photographing to editing in the early afternoon. Attendees are encouraged to bring their computers–laptops or all-in-ones are fine (iMacs are welcome)–in order to do their own editing. Attendees should have Adobe Lightroom and/or Photoshop\, or a comparable program on their computer. We will be available to help with the processing of images during this time. We will then view these edits\, critique\, and discuss them with the rest of the class while also creating 13×19″ prints.\nThis will be a fun and challenging workshop that will walk you through the full process of creating a photograph. DESCRIPTION:About the Nifty Fifty Workshops\nEvery photographer at one point or another has the internal struggle before going to photograph: What lenses should I bring with me today? The common answer is as many as I can without being too uncomfortable. And so we pack up our wide\, standard\, telephoto\, prime\, and macro lenses and head out into the field\, forcing ourselves to endure limitless choices while sacrificing simplicity.\nOur Nifty Fifty workshops flip the script and force you to only carry one lens: A 50mm lens\, nostalgically referred to as a “nifty fifty”. With limitations\, what can you– the photographer\, the creator\, the artist– achieve? \nWorkshop Description\nLocated an hour west of Boston\, Sturbridge Village is a proud replication of an 18th century New England town. Sturbridge Village is a living history museum that features many authentic period buildings and homes to explore and enjoy. The village is also inhabited by re-enactors who provide colorful insight to life in New England during the 18th century. Sturbridge Village is a wonderful destination for a multitude of photographic opportunities as well as a glimpse into a bygone era. \nOlde Sturbridge Village is perhaps one of the best places to have both a Photo Walk and a class. There’s a little bit of everything at this living history museum\, from macro and closeup with fine details to architecture\, from portraits to landscapes. On this workshop\, we will photograph both indoors and outdoors\, in regular light as well as very low light. We will focus our energies and use only a 50mm lens to create our photographs\, which will be both limiting and expressive! \nJoin us for a great experience! \n*Question: Are other prime lenses acceptable? Olympus/Panasonic users may use a 25mm lens\, since it gives the same look as a 50mm and other primes can be used as an alternative\, but we ask that you try to keep it at one prime in as close to that range as possible. Remember- this is a “nifty fifty” workshop\, not a “mighty ninety” workshop. (And does that even really rhyme?)

DESCRIPTION:In this workshop\, come learn the basics of macro photography in a hands-on environment! Aperture! Shutter speed! Focus! Exposure! Composition! We will spend our day creating a variety of unique macro scenarios and learning about the use of light and light modifiers. In this workshop we will cover exposure\, composition\, how to use macro lenses and extension tubes\, how to set up lighting\, how to use light modifiers and more!\nWe will be bringing lots of props and flowers to photograph for this workshop. However\, we find in our macro workshops that our attendees value shooting some things of their own as much if not more than what we bring. So\, while we will have props\, feel free to bring your own props\, trinkets\, and other things that may (or may not) be important to you!\nWe will also have a follow-up online image review to help understand your images better!

SUMMARY:High Key/Low Key Still Life Photography Workshop- Hunt's Photo Melrose
DESCRIPTION:Still life artwork has a history dating back centuries\, and has existed in photography since it became a medium. Still life photography is often used as a way of demonstrating composition\, framing\, and lighting. This deceptively simple genre has endless variations and possibilities\, and we will spend the day tackling some of these concepts!\nIn this hands-on workshop\, we’ll not only look at how to create dynamic still life compositions\, but also discuss how to change the mood of your images by emphasizing High Key (bright\, very few shadows) and Low Key (dark\, lots of shadows) elements. We will discuss how to compose\, light\, and photograph your subject to convey the story and mood you envision. We will also show you how to get it right in camera so you can spend less time editing and more time shooting!\nAttendees are recommended to not only bring their camera and tripod\, but also consider bringing some basic items that you may want to photograph during the workshop.

DESCRIPTION:The Charles River Museum of Industry is currently housed in what is considered the first ever factory in America. In Waltham\, the closed factory now plays the role of housing a history of the tools and machinery used in industry. This walk is an excellent chance to photograph the grit of the previous centuries under the Industrial Revolution\, and is a chance to work in low-light environments where the lighting sources cannot be controlled and focus on macro photography. DESCRIPTION:Hunt’s Photo Education and Sony Digital Imaging are excited to announce Capture the Moment North Boston: Photographing Action and Action Portraits\, featuring Sony Ambassador Tony Gale! \nIn this event\, photographers will have numerous opportunities to capture action. There will be separate shooting areas featuring models and off-camera flash/strobe and LED lighting\, each designed to create dynamic and beautiful imagery\, but also capture movement gracefully. The graceful gestures of a dancer\, the agility of an acrobat\, and the energy of an athlete are just some of the opportunities you will be able to capture during this jam-packed afternoon. \nThis event is sponsored by Sony\, but ALL photographers\, regardless what camera you have\, are encouraged to attend. Sony loaner gear (cameras and lenses) will be available for ANYONE interested! (Make sure to bring a driver’s license and credit card for loaners.) \nThis event will be held at Olio wedding & event space in Peabody\, MA\, an historic and beautifully renovated venue that is the perfect backdrop for the day! The afternoon will begin at 12pm with an introduction by Sony Ambassador Tony Gale who will discuss action portraits and the importance of creating dynamic imagery. At 19 after visiting Bruce Lee’s grave in Seattle\, and taking his first photo with a disposable camera\, he bought his first camera. He promptly broke it and bought his first SLR. At 21\, he moved to Seattle to pursue photography and in fall of 2000 moved to NYC\, the center of the world. \nTony has taught photographic lighting at FIT in NYC and Parsons the New School for Design\, judged photo contests\, and has traveled the country leading workshops for American Photographic Artists.

Art is her passion in life\, and in 2009 she made her dream a reality by establishing DFlux Photography\, LLC. Since then\, Anabel has become renowned for her innovative work including exotic animal photography\, live music shooting and dynamic\, imaginative portraits. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDFlux Photography began as a canine portrait service\, servicing pet owners in the Los Angeles area at local dog parks and community events. She then swiftly moved into the marvelous world of dog sport photography\, going on to currently receive a position photographing for three agility clubs\, one scent sport club\, and one barn hunt organization. However\, throughout her career\, she has worked with two dock diving clubs\, one herding organization\, six agility clubs\, one flyball club\, and two disc dog clubs. Her goal is to ensure that everyone understands the maximum capabilities of their equipment so that they can go forth and create the work that they dream of! From 2018-2019\, Anabel DFlux taught seminars at Canon USA through their Live Learning program. In 2019\, Anabel began teaching at Samy’s Photo School in Los Angeles\, Pasadena\, and Santa Ana. DESCRIPTION:Join SIGMA ambassador Anabel DFlux and Jeremy Saffer as they take you on the campaign trail.\nOften times photographers are tasked with photographing an entire campaign for an artist including an album cover\, promotional images\, exclusive editorial images for various outlets\, endorsement images\, magazine covers\, vast social media content and more… all in a single shoot. These are called record cycle or campaign shoots.\n\nIn days two and three of the four day workshop\, Anabel and Jeremy will take you through both of their individual and distinct processes of taking on a campaign shoot. SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Walk: Lowell Bridges and Waterways
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education and guest instructor Henry Marte for a walk in downtown Lowell\, Massachusetts. On this walk\, we will work on architectural photography\, Image composition\, Black and White Photography\, and other ways of creating images expressively.\nThe city of Lowell is a wonderful example of an old New England mill town. A city that was once dominant in the textile industry\, Lowell’s population boomed during much of the 19th century\, peaking in the early 20th century. Lowell\, nicknamed “Mill City”\, still retains much of its’ early 20th century look (and charm)\, with many old mills being converted to apartments\, artist spaces\, shops and more. On this walk\, we will photograph around many of the mill areas and along the beautiful Merrimack River with the many bridges and cobblestone walkways. \nThis will also be an excellent opportunity to use Neutral Density filters to obtain wonderful effects! \nPhotographers of all skill levels are welcome.

DESCRIPTION:The Charles River Museum of Industry is currently housed in what is considered the first ever factory in America. In Waltham\, the closed factory now plays the role of housing a history of the tools and machinery used in industry. This walk is an excellent chance to photograph the grit of the previous centuries under the Industrial Revolution\, and is a chance to work in low-light environments where the lighting sources cannot be controlled and focus on macro photography. DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Educator Emily Hojnowski and Mass Audubon Teacher Naturalist Correne George for a morning photographing at Parker River Wildlife Refuge on Plum Island. On this walk\, we will have numerous shooting opportunities to photograph birds in the area. In addition to photographing\, we will be joined on this walk by Mass Audubon Teacher Naturalist Correne George who will discuss how to recognize and find shore birds\, as well as how to ethically approach and work with birds with a naturalist approach. Photographers of all skill levels are encouraged to attend!\nPlease note: There will be a good amount of walking on this Photo Walk. Nothing too treacherous\, but make sure to wear comfortable shoes!

DESCRIPTION:Introductory Presentation Tuesday April 16th\, 7pm EST\nImage Review Tuesday May 7th\, 7pm EST \nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education as we help grow your knowledge\, creativity\, and artistic expression with our expanded Personal Vision Series. These classes are designed to provide you time\, opportunity\, and guidance in shaping your creative photographic voice. We will give an overview on a specific topic in an online class session\, then give you time to go into the field by yourself (or with someone else\, if you choose) to complete an assignment based on that topic. We will reconvene a few days later for an online image review to discuss elements of your images.\nThe Personal Vision Series is a crossroads of many different ideas that we offer with Hunt’s Photo Education: Topic-based instruction/classes\, Photo Walks\, & Image Reviews. However\, unlike a Photo Walk where we will all take a certain direction\, for the “Walk” portion\, you will be asked to journey out on your own to photograph. This will cause you to be the driving force of your creativity and vision!\nThis month’s topic is “Diagonal Lines”. We will have an instructional online presentation on the first date and will reconvene for our Image Review on the second date. You will have that time period in between to photograph and edit our assignment. Your personal creative voice is critical to your growth as a photographer and as an artist. Join us for to help grow that voice!
