SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Walk: "Details" at Olde Sturbridge Village
DESCRIPTION:Located an hour west of Boston\, Sturbridge Village is a proud replication of an 18th century New England town. Sturbridge Village is a living history museum that features many authentic period buildings and homes to explore and enjoy. The village is also inhabited by re-enactors who provide colorful insight to life in New England during the 18th century. Sturbridge Village is a wonderful destination for a multitude of photographic opportunities as well as a glimpse into a bygone era.\nOlde Sturbridge Village is perhaps one of the best places to have both a Photo Walk and a class. There’s a little bit of everything at this living history museum\, from macro and closeup with fine details to architecture\, from portraits to landscapes. We will photograph both indoors and outdoors\, in regular light as well as very low light. We will discuss how to work with subjects to create a story\, and also work on settings to fine-tune focus and exposure! This Photo Walk is one of the best opportunities to build your photographic knowledge\, no matter what level. This walk is equally as beneficial as a first walk or a twentieth walk\, as the area has so much to offer!\nJoin us for a great experience!\nPlease note: The cost of your ticket does NOT include the cost of your entrance into Olde Sturbridge Village\, which can be purchased here: https://www.osv.org/plan-your-visit/

SUMMARY:Hunt's Portrait Workshop: Urban Portraits in Lowell with Natural Light (and Flash!)
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for another entry in our series of portrait workshops where we will be utilizing the natural\, urban environment to work into our portraits. Brick buildings and cityscapes will all work into our compositions as we create a more working class feel in our portraits–a very unique look. To a certain extent\, these will be environmental portraits where the environment plays a role in creating the scene. Utilizing your environment in photographs is key to creating a fun portrait shoot! We will emphasize creating these portraits using available light through subject placement and composition with the aid of diffusers and reflectors. We will then separately demonstrate reasons to add in flash.\nWe will begin photographing late afternoon in the sunlight (and shade) and work to sunset along the Merrimack River along the Riverwalk in Lowell. We will be using Westcott (FJ80\, FJ200\, FJ400) strobes/flashes as well as Westcott diffusers\, both of which are excellent brands for creating stunning portraits.\nThis workshop will be co-taught by Hunt’s Photo Educator Paul Nelson and professional photographer Henry Marte. Both have extensive portrait experience and will take you through the full process\, from naturally lighting a subject\, to how to properly expose while using strobes\, to how to actually use the strobes themselves!\nPhotographers of all skill levels are encouraged to attend. \nAbout Henry Marte\nHenry is a published photographer and credited filmmaker. He specializes in various forms of photography\, including portrait\, events\, headshots\, drone\, and commercial photography. Other than attending MassArt’s Documentary Film School\, he is almost entirely self taught. He runs a small media production studio called Marte Media\, based out of Western Avenue Studios in Lowell. Some of his clients include Spartan Race\, UMass Lowell\, Phillips Academy\, Navigation Brewing Company\, and more. Originally from NYC\, he now calls Lowell\, Massachusetts his home. He enjoys New York style pizza\, walks with a camera\, and hiking to active volcanoes.

SUMMARY:Studio Personality Portraits of Children with Paula Swift- Hunt's Photo Waltham
DESCRIPTION:Join Master Photographer\, Photographic Craftsmen\, Certified Professional Photographer – Paula Swift owner of Paula Swift Photography\, Inc. in Sudbury\, MA as she shares her fun and stress-free approach to studio portraits of children. Paula loves to create fun and creative natural portraits of children using simple studio lighting and backdrops.  She lets children be themselves.  This could be by incorporating a hobby\, sport or anything that they love into their session or just capturing their authentic smiles and laughter in front of her camera. \nWe laugh\, giggle\, sing\, dance and pull out all the stops to get children to be who they truly are. Some sessions the focus is on their faces and expressions\, so clothing is kept simple and classic making it a fun and stress free way to capture your kids portraits in a modern yet timeless way. Meanwhile other sessions include a sport or hobby. This helps to tell their story of who they are and to celebrate their uniqueness. Paula believes every child is unique and these types of portraits help to capture who they are…and how we will look back and remember that fleeting time of that age they were photographed.\n\n \nThis class will cover: \n• Studio lighting and camera gear used\n• How it’s important learn about the child(ren) you will be photographing\n• How to direct children during the session\n• To encourage children to be themselves during a session\n• Learn how to sit back and watch a moment happen\n• How to keep the session fun and engaging for each child \n  \nPlease note: Certain special workshops\, such as this one\, are non-refundable. If you need to cancel more than 10 days prior\, you can receive a 50% credit towards a class in the future. We do not offer credits within 10 days of the workshop. \n  \nAbout Paula: \nPaula Swift\, M.Photog\, Cr.\, CPP started her portrait photography business in Framingham\, MA in 2004 and then moved into a new studio in Sudbury\, MA in December 2013. SUMMARY:Phoenix Film Experience with Harman and Hunt's Photo Portland
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education and Harman Film for a launch event for Harman’s Phoenix II film.  \nHarman initially introduced Phoenix film (ISO 200) in late 2023 as a limited release and experimental film. Harman’s Phoenix II film is a brand new film stock that offers plenty of analog character\, but improves upon contrast\, grain\, and sharpness. \nFor this event\, we will begin with a meet and greet and introduction to the film at the store\, including a brief presentation from Harman. All attendees will receive a free roll of Phoenix II film as well as a coupon for free development and scanning of the roll. (Hey! The cost of this event is less than the cost of those three things combined!)  \nAttendees are welcome to continue with us to a nearby location where we can test out the roll on a photo scavenger hunt. Representatives from Hunt’s Photo Education and Harman will be present to answer and of your photo (and film) needs! And finally\, bring the roll back for development within a set period of time to be entered into a prize giveaway! \nWhether you’re a seasoned shooter or new to film\, come hang\, shoot\, and celebrate with us for a fun time\, and be among the first to shoot Phoenix II!

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Walk: Canterbury Shaker Village
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for a photo walk at the historic Canterbury Shaker Village.\nShakers were a religious group formed in England in the 1700s from a variety of religions\, including English Quakers and Methodists. (Shakers were named based on their ecstatic dance\, initially known as “Shaking Quakers”.) Shaker communities sprouted throughout Northeastern Colonial America\, eventually heading westward. Due to the celibate nature of the communities\, the Shaker communities dwindled into the 20th century\, including the Canterbury Shaker Village\, whose last surviving members died in the early 1990s. Founded in 1965\, the Canterbury Shaker Village preserves the heritage of the Canterbury Shaker Community from the past two centuries. The settlement is complete with original Shaker buildings\, as well as the surrounding area of forests\, fields\, gardens\, nature trails\, and mill ponds.\nOn this walk\, we will photograph the outside buildings of this historic sect’s wholly simple (and simply holy) lives. We will attempt to tell the story of the Shakers through what they left behind. This will include an emphasis on Composition and discussing Black & White\, architecture\, and close-up photography. Come photograph a fascinating historical lifestyle! Photographers of all skill levels are encouraged to attend!

SUMMARY:Hunt's Portrait Workshop: Sports Portraits and Portraits in Action
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Educator Paul Nelson and portrait and sports photographer Henry Marte for another entry in our series of portrait workshops where we will be creating dynamic lighting scenarios involving athletes\, both posed and in motion! Attendees will learn about how to create amazing portraits using a mixture of natural light and flash\, understand subject placement\, when and why to use strobes (and where to place them)\, and will end up with some excellent portfolio-building images! \nIn this workshop\, we will begin by developing dynamic lighting setups with natural light and flash. Attendees will begin to develop an understanding of how lighting outdoors can positively affect sports portraits. During the second half of the workshop\, we will take it a step further by adding in movement and action\, a unique and fun look in our end result!   We will use Westcott strobes and have a series of athlete-models available for the shoot. \nThis workshop will be co-taught by Hunt’s Photo Educator Paul Nelson and professional photographer Henry Marte. Both have extensive portrait experience and will take you through the full process of lighting a subject\, how to properly expose while using strobes\, and how to actually use the strobes themselves!\nPhotographers of all skill levels are encouraged to attend.

SUMMARY:Online: Personal Vision Series- A Sense of Time
DESCRIPTION:Introductory Presentation Wednesday August 20th\, 7pm EST\nImage Review – Wednesday September 3rd\, 7pm EST \nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education as we help grow your knowledge\, creativity\, and artistic expression with our expanded Personal Vision Series. These classes are designed to provide you time\, opportunity\, and guidance in shaping your creative photographic voice. We will give an overview on a specific topic in an online class session\, then give you time to go into the field by yourself (or with someone else\, if you choose) to complete an assignment based on that topic. We will reconvene a few days later for an online image review to discuss elements of your images.\nThe Personal Vision Series is a crossroads of many different ideas that we offer with Hunt’s Photo Education: Topic-based instruction/classes\, Photo Walks\, & Image Reviews. However\, unlike a Photo Walk where we will all take a certain direction\, for the “Walk” portion\, you will be asked to journey out on your own to photograph. This will cause you to be the driving force of your creativity and vision!\nThis month’s topic is “A Sense of Time”. We will have an instructional online presentation on the first date and will reconvene for our Image Review on the second date. You will have that time period in between to photograph and edit our assignment. Your personal creative voice is critical to your growth as a photographer and as an artist. Join us for to help grow that voice!

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Explorer Series- New Bedford Historic District
DESCRIPTION:Photographers scout locations before a scheduled event or workshop to pre-determine viable places for exploration\, creativity\, and learning. The scouting process often involves targeting specific areas of interest as well as wandering curiously with an open mind to find other points of interest. Almost every photographer new to a location starts with a clean slate and learns as they go. Planning can be beneficial\, but serendipity can be joyously fruitful. Whether a moment is planned or spontaneous\, learning and growth are essential. \nThe Hunt’s Photo Explorer Series will consist of excursions that vary in duration depending on the chosen location\, and locations will be places not previously visited or scouted for a Hunt’s Photo Walk\, Adventure\, or Workshop. Everyone will meet at a designated parking location and then begin exploring both in a group and individual format\, so as to understand what to look for on a scouting location (and to scout on one’s own). Exploring locations “sight unseen” allows individual’s unique opportunities to further develop their photography skills and creative vision. \nNew Bedford Historic District\, New Bedford\, Massachusetts \nDuring the 19th century\, New Bedford was the center of the whaling industry in New England. With the decline of the whaling industry in the 20th century\, the city committed itself to preserving much of its rich maritime history. The New Bedford Historic District\, formed in 1966\, features original cobblestone streets\, buildings dating back to the 1700s\, unique architecture\, a whaling museum\, and more. We will explore the details\, textures\, colors\, and tones of the Historic District as well as street photography\, architectural photography\, and more.

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Walk: Bugs in the Field with Emilie Talpin\, Lincoln NH
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Educator Emily Hojnowski and guest photographer Emilie Talpin photographing BUGS in the field! On this workshop\, attendees will be hand held\, photographing close-up (macro) with an emphasis on bugs as we work our way along a gardened street in Lincoln\, NH.  \nAttendees should have a camera and macro lens\, but would also benefit from having a flash/speedlight for this workshop\, as well as a flash diffuser. If you don’t have a flash or diffuser\, we sell them at Hunt’s Photo and some are available to rent. Feel free to reach out to us at classes@huntsphoto.com if you have questions. Emilie also has a great video on how to make your own diffuser here. \nJoin us for this fun\, workshop! \n  \nAbout Emilie\nEmilie Talpin is an OM SYSTEM ambassador who grew up in Chalon sur Sa?ne\, France\, the birthplace of Nic?phore Ni?pce and the first photograph. Despite this background\, she got into photography late and\, in 2018\, joined a local camera club where she met a group of talented photographers and was inspired to dive deeper into the art of capturing moments in time. She attributes part of her success as a photographer to switching from heavy and cumbersome gear to a camera system that is lighter and more versatile. She bought the OMD Em1 Mark II\, a wildlife and a macro lens\, and has never looked back. She is particularly interested in macro photography\, especially in the art of capturing water drop refraction.\nYou can read her articles: https://learnandsupport.getolympus.com/about-emilie-talpin\nContact\nInstagram: @emilietalpin ( https://www.instagram.com/emilietalpin/ )\nWebsite: https://emilietalpin.smugmug.com/ )\nYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCsyFkE7rIxyID4-VRHcRXvg )

On this workshop we will discuss subject development\, composition\, exposure\, circular polarizers\, fine art photography\, and more! \nWe will also photograph with an emphasis on Wabi-sabi. Wabi-sabi is a Japanese concept that centers around beauty in imperfection and the acceptance of transience. In photography\, we can use this aesthetic to find and compose unique and interesting subjects. The Seashore Trolley Museum has a plethora of aged and imperfect subjects for us to work with.  Join us for this fun-filled and unique walk!

SUMMARY:Hunt's Nifty Fifty Walk: A Morning in Portsmouth
DESCRIPTION:About the Nifty Fifty Workshops\nEvery photographer at one point or another has the internal struggle before going to photograph: What lenses should I bring with me today? The common answer is as many as I can without being too uncomfortable. And so we pack up our wide\, standard\, telephoto\, prime\, and macro lenses and head out into the field\, forcing ourselves to endure limitless choices while sacrificing simplicity.\nOur Nifty Fifty workshops flip the script and force you to only carry one lens: A 50mm lens\, nostalgically referred to as a “nifty fifty”. What can you achieve? \nFor this walk… we will be photographing in Portsmouth\, New Hampshire. Portsmouth is a large eclectic town along the coast\, featuring a blend of new and old architecture amid a variety of shops\, restaurants\, docks\, boats\, and colors. During the walk\, we will photograph in the morning light and work with a 50mm lens to your advantage! We will work on capturing the scene\, but also elements of street photography and storytelling\, if applicable! Photographers of all levels are welcome! \n  \n*Question: Are other prime lenses acceptable? Olympus/Panasonic users may use a 25mm lens\, since it gives the same look as a 50mm and other primes can be used as an alternative\, but we ask that you try to keep it at one prime in as close to that range as possible.
