SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Walk: Boston From Above at The Prudential
DESCRIPTION:Join Ron Phillips for a unique photo walk photographing Boston from above! We will ascend the Prudential building in Boston and photograph the views of the city from above at the new Boston 360 sky view. On the walk\, we will discuss the many aspects of shooting from this perspective\, including the gear that is required\, both technical (camera\, lenses) and non-technical (how to block out light). Photographers of all skill levels are encouraged to attend.\nTripods are not necessary for the time of day we will be shooting. However\, we strongly encourage that you have a circular polarizing filter and a rubber lens hood\, such as this one. These simple items will help reduce glare in the glass. If you do not own them\, we recommend considering purchasing them at your local Hunt’s Photo.\n*Please note: The cost of entering the Prudential Boston 360 is NOT included in the cost of the class. You can purchase tickets in advance here! (We recommend purchasing tickets only a few days prior\, in case the weather for the day causes a postponement.)

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Astrophotography Workshop with Special Guest Jack Fusco\, Sponsored by SIGMA
DESCRIPTION:In-the-Field: Saturday\, August 19th\, 6pm-midnight\nImage Review: Tuesday\, August 22nd\, 7pm\nPlease note: This workshop is being offered with both Friday and Saturday sessions. Make sure to register for the correct date!\nJoin professional photographer and SIGMA Ambassador Jack Fusco along with Hunt’s Photo Educator Emily Hojnowski for a special astrophotography workshop at Chocorua Lake in Central New Hampshire! This workshop will consist of two parts: A workshop in the field at Chocorua Lake and an online image review after the workshop. (We also have a pre-recorded session on Astrophotography that attendees can view prior to the workshop.)\nDuring the In-the-Field sessions\, Jack will lead a small group of photographers to a fantastic view of the night sky in Chocorua\, New Hampshire. While on location Jack will review techniques discussed during the lecture\, by putting them into practice.\nAfter the workshop\, we will regroup for an online critique session\, recorded if you cannot attend live.\nPlease note: This workshop was originally scheduled for April and rescheduled due to weather. It featured an online presentation An Introduction to Astrophotography . This recorded class can be viewed by anyone registered for the workshop. The goal of the introductory class is for you to leave with the knowledge and ability to shoot the stars on your own. In this session\, Jack will be guiding you through the basics of astrophotography all the way up to some advanced techniques. Jack will also review some basic astronomy information that will help you plan and capture images of the stars.\nWhat You Will Learn\n? We will meet on-location with time to scout and plan compositions.\n??Jack will share his personal approach to how he would plan an entire night to maximize his time shooting and ensure that he leaves with images he is excited about.\n? The night will begin chasing as many Milky Way compositions and shooting techniques as possible and end with time to shoot star trails.\nWhat You Should Bring\n??A DSLR or Mirrorless Camera with manual settings\n??A fast aperture lens (See below note about fabulous SIGMA glass)\n??Extra batteries (2 or more) and memory cards (64gb+)\n??A sturdy tripod\n??Shutter Release / Intervalometer\n??Red light equipped headlamp\, the red light will be less harsh on our eyes and help keep night vision intact!\n??Warm clothing – Dress in layers to help stay warm\n??Wear decent hiking shoes/boots to manage the terrain\n??Water/Snacks\nSIGMA LOANER GEAR!\nWe will also have a selection of SIGMA lenses for attendees to use during the location outings each night. These lenses are EXTREMELY useful\, as you will be able to utilize some of the best glass in ideal situations! Please note: If you are using Canon R or Nikon Z mounts\, make sure to bring an adapter.\nAbout Jack Fusco\nJack Fusco is a professional landscape astrophotographer / timelapser. What began as a way purely to document his travels as a touring musician\, photography has become his main form of creative expression.\nOn his often-sleepless journey\, he strives to share the wonder of the night sky with as many people as possible. Whether chasing the Milky Way along coast lines or capturing the Northern lights in unforgiving remote locations you?re sure to find him coffee in hand\, smiling up at the stars.\nMany of Jack?s images are often planned days\, weeks\, or even months in advance while waiting for weather and celestial objects to align. The resulting work shows a true and complete dedication to his craft.\nHis work has been featured by National Geographic\, TEDx\, LA Times\, NASA APOD\, BBC\, Forbes and many more.\nMore info on Jack can be found at his website\, Instagram\, Facebook\, and Twitter.\nWho should sign up?\nAnyone is welcome to attend this workshop\, but it is generally recommended that attendees have a general understanding of exposure\, aperture\, shutter speed\, and ISO for this workshop.\nRegarding inclement weather\nWe will do our very best to control the weather each night…or at least monitor the weather leading up to the event! If one night looks particularly improbable\, you may have the opportunity to shift to a surrounding night. Again\, we will monitor it leading up to the event.\nRegarding Lodging\nDue to the late finish\, you may consider staying in a local hotel. We do not have any agreements with local hotels\, but hotels in Tamworth\, Conway\, and North Conway are all relatively local.\nOne last note\nThere are two date options for the in-the-field portion of the workshop\, so please make sure to register for the correct day.

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Workshop: Cameras and Drones at Kaaterskills Falls
DESCRIPTION:Join award-winning photographers Andy Leclerc & Jamie Malcolm-Brown at the impressive Kaaterskills Falls (231 ft tall with two drops) in Catskills\, NY. This is one of the few waterfalls in New England that makes you feel like you are in Iceland. It is spectacular to experience! This workshop is for drones\, regular cameras\, or both if you have them.\nIf you are a beginner photographer\, we will review the fundamentals\, including camera settings\, ND filters\, and much more! If you are confident with your camera settings\, we will show you how to find unique compositions and use advanced techniques.\nThis workshop includes a 1.5-hour Zoom session to review your images and discuss post-processing techniques.\nThe walk to the falls is .8 miles. It is moderately challenging\, though the hardest part is the stairs going up when leaving the falls. We plan to go behind the falls depending on the conditions. Bring rain gear. You will get wet!\nIf you plan to use a drone\, you should be reasonably experienced. There are a lot of tree branches and obstacles to be aware of if you fly at the bottom of the waterfall.\nAbout the instructors:\nJamie Malcolm-Brown is a drone and landscape photographer that focuses on the natural beauty of New England. He explores the backroads and out of the way places searching for unique locations and conditions. Jamie’s goal is to share the beauty that nature has to offer in hopes of inspiring people to get out and explore however they can.\n \n \n \nAndy Leclerc is a photographer based in Connecticut\, USA. He is well known for his editing skills and creative ideas. He believes passionately in developing new techniques and working with other creatives which he taglines\, “community over competition”. His photographs have been featured/published in FORBES\, DRONEAWARDS 2019\, Sky Pixel\, DJI Photographic Society\, Drone User Magazine\, and Masters of Drone Photography.

SUMMARY:Hunt's Portrait Workshop: Portraits at Stevens-Coolidge with Natural Light (or Flash!)
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for another entry in our series of portrait workshops where we will be working in natural light and flash! We will emphasize creating portraits using available light through subject placement and composition through the aid of diffusers and reflectors. We will then separately demonstrate reasons to add in flash.\nHunt’s Photo Educator (and strobe specialist) Paul Nelson will take you through the process of how to understand the full process\, from naturally lighting a subject\, to how to properly expose while using strobes\, to how to actually use the strobes themselves!\nWe will begin photographing late afternoon in the sunlight (and shade) and work to sunset at the beautiful Stevens-Coolidge Place in North Andover. We will have a opportunity to take some wonderful portraits in a beautiful\, green environment\, excellent practice for senior portraits\, engagement sessions and more! For gear\, we will be using both Westcott (FJ80\, FJ200\, FJ400) and Godox (AD200) strobes/flashes as well as Westcott diffusers\, both of which are excellent brands for creating stunning portraits. Photographers of all skill levels are encouraged to attend.

SUMMARY:Hunt's Street Photography Walk: Harvard Square in the Evening
DESCRIPTION:For this workshop\, we will be working on Street Photography in Harvard Square. Harvard Square\, given its famous local lore\, location next to Harvard University\, and close proximity to Boston Massachusetts\, draws many thousands of visitors per year who come to shop\, eat\, drink\, and visit local historic and cultural sights in the square. Given the volume of people and traffic\, there is a constant sense of motion and activity in Harvard Square. This walk is a terrific opportunity to work on street and candid photography\, with plenty of subject matter. We will discuss managing ISO and shutter speed in low-light conditions to never miss a shot\, as well as the art of blending in and going unnoticed.\nWe will also try to get it all right in camera! While you are welcome to shoot in RAW\, we’ll also discuss the joy of shooting for the end result in JPEG! Join us for a fun walk!!

SUMMARY:Hunt's Portrait Workshop: Urban Portraits with Natural Light (or Flash!)
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for another entry in our series of portrait workshops where we will be utilizing the natural\, urban environment to work into our portraits. Brick buildings and cityscapes will all work into our compositions as we create a more working class feel in our portraits–a very unique look. We will emphasize creating these portraits using available light through subject placement and composition with the aid of diffusers and reflectors. We will then separately demonstrate reasons to add in flash.\nWe will begin photographing late afternoon in the sunlight (and shade) and work to sunset in the picturesque brick of downtown Lowell. We will be using both Westcott (FJ80\, FJ200\, FJ400) and Godox (AD200) strobes/flashes as well as Westcott diffusers\, both of which are excellent brands for creating stunning portraits.\nThis workshop will be co-taught by Hunt’s Photo Educator Paul Nelson and professional photographer Henry Marte. Both have extensive portrait experience and will take you through the full process\, from naturally lighting a subject\, to how to properly expose while using strobes\, to how to actually use the strobes themselves!\nPhotographers of all skill levels are encouraged to attend.\nAbout Henry Marte\nHenry is a published photographer and credited filmmaker. He specializes in various forms of photography\, including portrait\, events\, headshots\, drone\, and commercial photography. Other than attending MassArt’s Documentary Film School\, he is almost entirely self taught. He runs a small media production studio called Marte Media\, based out of Western Avenue Studios in Lowell. Some of his clients include Spartan Race\, UMass Lowell\, Phillips Academy\, Navigation Brewing Company\, and more. Originally from NYC\, he now calls Lowell\, Massachusetts his home. He enjoys New York style pizza\, walks with a camera\, and hiking to active volcanoes.

SUMMARY:Hunt's Horror Lighting Portrait Workshop II: A Nightmare on Main St
DESCRIPTION:It’s the scariest time of the year. No\, we’re not talking about tax season– It’s Halloween! Join us for our annual Horror Lighting Portrait Workshop! In this workshop\, we will create portraits utilizing a style of lighting reminiscent to that used in Horror films!\nIn this workshop\, we will begin by discussing the style of Horror Lighting\, using examples from the history of horror\, from classic 1930s Universal horror films to 1980s slasher to more modern\, experimental techniques. Instructor Paul Nelson has spent painstaking hours and buckets of popcorn to research the intricacies of horror\, and\, believe it or not\, it’s not all just “monster lighting”. We will then photograph both inside and (if weather allows) outside to both recreate and create new in-the-style-of scenes to photograph. We will utilize both our Hunt’s Photo Melrose classrooms as well as locations in the surrounding area to great affect. We’ll discuss how to light and what to use\, create shadows and textures\, use studio space and real-life locations\, work with models and more!\nIn this workshop\, we will cover:\n? How to compose the lighting in a scene\, including how and when to use flash vs LED\n??Flash and LED lighting (important enough to write it on here twice)\n??Using lighting indoor or outside\n??Creating dynamic shadows and effects in your work with lighting\, as well as other light modification\n? How to work with (posing and directing) models to achieve a desired look\n? Developing a creative concept in portraits\, not only using lighting and posing\, but also costumes\, hair\, and make-up\nYou do not need to own a flash or lighting to attend this workshop. Photographers of all skill levels are encouraged to attend.\nJoin us for this unique\, fun\, and perhaps horrific workshop!

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Filter Workshop: Using Filters in the Field with Waterfalls
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a morning of learning what filters we want to use in photography\, how to use them\, and then go out into the field to get some hands-on practice!\nWe will begin in our Hunt’s Photo Manchester classroom to learn about filters\, how to use them properly\, how to attach them to the camera\, and\, if applicable\, purchase filters. We will then travel ~22 minutes to our waterfall location to practice long exposures. (Please note: Our location is TBA. To minimize confusion\, we will let you know in the confirmation email after purchase.) There are many small falls here – wide angle\, normal zoom\, and telephoto are all recommended. UV\, Circular Polarizer (CPL)\, and Neutral Density (ND) filters are all recommended. Students may choose to shoot from the banks of the river\, but the best shots will happen by walking along some rocks. Waterproof boots are your friend!\nWhether you’ve used filters and still have questions\, you’ve never used filters\, or you need a little inspiration\, this is a great opportunity to have some fun with filters!
