SUMMARY:Personal Vision Series- Topsfield Fair: A Day at the Fair
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for a Personal Vision Shootout at the Topsfield Fair. This walk is geared toward intermediate and advanced photographers. During the walk\, we will “strengthen your photographic muscles” by challenging you to work outside of your comfort zone while also developing cohesion in the photographic work you produce. \nThe Topsfield Fair is one of America’s oldest agricultural fairs\, dating back to the early 1800s when the fair consisted of a showing of livestock and agricultural equipment. It now has become an New England institution\, bringing in nearly half a million visitors every year over the 11-day run. \nDuring our time here\, we will tell the story of the Topsfield Fair as each person sees it. Through independent work\, photographers will develop individual concepts and look at what catches their eye and imagination. Each photographer will create images to go along with those concepts and tell the story of the Topsfield Fair as each person sees\, hears\, smells\, and feels it. The end result of this shootout will be a “photo story” of the Topsfield Fair.

SUMMARY:Hunt's Horror Lighting Portrait Workshop III: Night of the Lighting Dead!
DESCRIPTION:It’s the scariest time of the year. No\, we’re not talking about tax season– It’s Halloween! Join us for our annual Horror Lighting Portrait Workshop! In this workshop\, we will create portraits utilizing a style of lighting reminiscent to that used in Horror films!\nIn this workshop\, we will begin by discussing the style of Horror Lighting\, using examples from the history of horror\, from classic 1930s Universal horror films to 1980s slasher to more modern\, experimental techniques. Instructor Paul Nelson has spent painstaking hours and buckets of popcorn to research the intricacies of horror\, and\, believe it or not\, it’s not all just “monster lighting”. We will then photograph both inside and (if weather allows) outside to both recreate and create new in-the-style-of scenes to photograph. We will utilize both our Hunt’s Photo Melrose classrooms as well as locations in the surrounding area to great effect. We’ll discuss how to light and what to use\, create shadows and textures\, use studio space and real-life locations\, work with models and more!\nIn this workshop\, we will cover:\n• How to compose the lighting in a scene\, including how and when to use flash vs LED\n• Flash and LED lighting (important enough to write it on here twice)\n• Using lighting indoor or outside\n• Creating dynamic shadows and effects in your work with lighting\, as well as other light modification\n• How to work with (posing and directing) models to achieve a desired look\n• Developing a creative concept in portraits\, not only using lighting and posing\, but also costumes\, hair\, and make-up\nYou do not need to own a flash or lighting to attend this workshop. Photographers of all skill levels are encouraged to attend.\nJoin us for this unique\, fun\, and perhaps horrific workshop!

SUMMARY:Hunt's Film Photo Workshop: A Morning in Rockport
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education and photographer Tessa Klingensmith for a unique walk in the Rockport…with film cameras! \nOn this walk\, we will photograph around downtown Rockport utilizing your film cameras. (You can also bring a digital camera\, but the emphasis will be about shooting on film!) Amongst other topics\, we will talk about exposure\, focus\, and composition. Attendees will need to have a working film camera and at least one roll of film. \nAfter the walk\, we will have an online image review\, which means attendees will need to develop and scan their film to submit images. You can either bring in your roll of film to Hunt’s to have it developed OR\, if you want to learn about film processing\, you can sign up for our Developing Film classes!  (Scanning is included in the cost of that class!)\nThis walk is an excellent opportunity to work on so many varying elements and your skills as a photographer! \nA few notes about our Film Photo Walks\n• Attendees should have a working film camera that they can use for the walk as well as any film they would like to use.\n• Please make sure you have a working battery in the camera.\n• If you are unsure whether your camera is fully functional\, we strongly recommend you contact us at classes@huntsphoto.com and schedule a time that we can check it out!\n• It is also strongly recommended that you either load the film in advance or have an understanding of how to load the film. Again\, if you’re unsure\, contact us at classes@huntsphoto.com \n• You can choose to shoot in black & white or color film. If you are unsure\, a good place to start for black & white film is Kodak Tri-X or Ilford HP5+\, and for color Kodak Gold or Ultramax\, or Fujifilm Superia. There are so many other brands and styles\, but these are the most basic and easy-to-use. \n• Our instructors know film cameras! But we don’t always know EVERY camera immediately\, so as we state above\, please plan accordingly if you’re unsure.\n• And if you do not have a film camera\, Hunt’s Photo stocks a great deal of used film cameras! \n• This is a film photo walk. You’re also welcome to bring a digital camera\, but the emphasis will be about shooting on film! \n  \nAbout Tessa Klingensmith \nTessa Klingensmith is a Salem based photographer with years of experience both in the field and in the lab. She’s passionate about analog photography and loves getting creative by souping film and other experimental processes.

SUMMARY:Hunt's Portrait Workshop: Lighting on Location featuring Dia De Los Muertos (and more)
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for another entry in our series of portrait workshops where we will be showing how to light on location using natural light and supplemental light\, whether it’s flash or LED! We will utilize the natural environment of our location to work into our portraits\, and then\, when necessary\, use lights to make it something spectacular. This workshop is a great opportunity for both beginner and intermediate photographers\, as we’ll build examples of where to place subjects\, when to use lighting\, and what lighting we think works best for that environment. (Lighting will be provided!) \nOur workshop will take place at the Western Ave Studios in Lowell\, which has many unique indoor and outdoor elements that will work well for our portraits. We will also be featuring a theme– Dia De Los Muertos–where some of our models will be made up and dressed in the style shown here. (We may also have non-made up models to provide variety for the afternoon.)\nFor gear\, we will be using both Westcott (FJ80\, FJ200\, FJ400) strobes/flashes as well as Westcott diffusers as well as a mix of Nanlite and Aputure LED lights\, all of which are excellent brands for creating stunning portraits.\nThis workshop will be co-taught by Hunt’s Photo Educator Paul Nelson and professional photographer Henry Marte. Both have extensive portrait experience and will take you through the full process\, from naturally lighting a subject\, to how to properly expose while using lighting\, to how to actually use the lights themselves!\nPhotographers of all skill levels are encouraged to attend. \nAbout Henry Marte\nHenry is a published photographer and credited filmmaker. He specializes in various forms of photography\, including portrait\, events\, headshots\, drone\, and commercial photography. Other than attending MassArt’s Documentary Film School\, he is almost entirely self taught. He runs a small media production studio called Marte Media\, based out of Western Avenue Studios in Lowell. Some of his clients include Spartan Race\, UMass Lowell\, Phillips Academy\, Navigation Brewing Company\, and more. Originally from NYC\, he now calls Lowell\, Massachusetts his home. He enjoys New York style pizza\, walks with a camera\, and hiking to active volcanoes.

SUMMARY:Online: Personal Vision Series- Your Hometown
DESCRIPTION:Introductory Presentation Tuesday November 12th\, 7pm EST\nImage Review Tuesday November 26th\, 7pm EST \nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education as we help grow your knowledge\, creativity\, and artistic expression with our expanded Personal Vision Series. These classes are designed to provide you time\, opportunity\, and guidance in shaping your creative photographic voice. We will give an overview on a specific topic in an online class session\, then give you time to go into the field by yourself (or with someone else\, if you choose) to complete an assignment based on that topic. We will reconvene a few days later for an online image review to discuss elements of your images.\nThe Personal Vision Series is a crossroads of many different ideas that we offer with Hunt’s Photo Education: Topic-based instruction/classes\, Photo Walks\, & Image Reviews. However\, unlike a Photo Walk where we will all take a certain direction\, for the “Walk” portion\, you will be asked to journey out on your own to photograph. This will cause you to be the driving force of your creativity and vision!\nThis month’s topic is “Your Hometown”. We will have an instructional online presentation on the first date and will reconvene for our Image Review on the second date. You will have that time period in between to photograph and edit our assignment. Your personal creative voice is critical to your growth as a photographer and as an artist. Join us for to help grow that voice!
