SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Workshop: Water Drops (and more!)
DESCRIPTION:Water Drop Photography is a style wherein one drops a liquid into another liquid and photographs it in a way that emphasizes the “unseeable”–little droplets\, the corona of the drop\, and more. This style uses high speed flash in order to stop the action instead of fast shutter speed. It is a simple technique that can be achieved with even the most rudimentary gear\, but it can produce infinitely different results. Just like snowflakes\, you’ll never be able to duplicate a water drop.\nIn this workshop\, we will begin with a live demo describing the gear\, settings\, set-up\, and execution of water drop photography. We’ll then dive right in\, beginning simply and then moving on to not just water droplets\, but also other items! Photographers of all skill levels are welcome\, but one should come with patience!\nTwo important notes: We will be using flash in this workshop. You do not need to own a flash\, and we may use only what we have anyway\, but you are welcome to bring one if you have one in order to understand how to replicate it on your own. Also\, to minimize on gear and space\, we will be working in groups of two. (Trust us\, it’s easier!)

SUMMARY:High Key/Low Key Still Life Photography Workshop- Hunt's Photo Melrose
DESCRIPTION:Still life artwork has a history dating back centuries\, and has existed in photography since it became a medium. Still life photography is often used as a way of demonstrating composition\, framing\, and lighting. This deceptively simple genre has endless variations and possibilities\, and we will spend the day tackling some of these concepts!\nIn this hands-on workshop\, we’ll not only look at how to create dynamic still life compositions\, but also discuss how to change the mood of your images by emphasizing High Key (bright\, very few shadows) and Low Key (dark\, lots of shadows) elements. We will discuss how to compose\, light\, and photograph your subject to convey the story and mood you envision. We will also show you how to get it right in camera so you can spend less time editing and more time shooting!\nAttendees are recommended to not only bring their camera and tripod\, but also consider bringing some basic items that you may want to photograph during the workshop.

SUMMARY:Online: Personal Vision Series- Our Intimate Home
DESCRIPTION:Introductory Presentation Wednesday January 28th\, 7pm EST\nImage Review – Thursday February 12th\, 7pm EST \nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education as we help grow your knowledge\, creativity\, and artistic expression with our expanded Personal Vision Series. These classes are designed to provide you time\, opportunity\, and guidance in shaping your creative photographic voice. We will give an overview on a specific topic in an online class session\, then give you time to go into the field by yourself (or with someone else\, if you choose) to complete an assignment based on that topic. We will reconvene a few days later for an online image review to discuss elements of your images.\nThe Personal Vision Series is a crossroads of many different ideas that we offer with Hunt’s Photo Education: Topic-based instruction/classes\, Photo Walks\, & Image Reviews. However\, unlike a Photo Walk where we will all take a certain direction\, for the “Walk” portion\, you will be asked to journey out on your own to photograph. This will cause you to be the driving force of your creativity and vision!\nThis month’s topic is “Our Intimate Home”.  We will have an instructional online presentation on the first date and will reconvene for our Image Review on the second date. You will have that time period in between to photograph and edit our assignment. Your personal creative voice is critical to your growth as a photographer and as an artist. Join us for to help grow that voice!

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Walk: Charles River Museum of Industry & Innovation
DESCRIPTION:The Charles River Museum of Industry is currently housed in what is considered the first ever factory in America. In Waltham\, the closed factory now plays the role of housing a history of the tools and machinery used in industry. This walk is an excellent chance to photograph the grit of the previous centuries under the Industrial Revolution\, and is a chance to work in low-light environments where the lighting sources cannot be controlled and focus on macro photography. Join us for a wonderful experience!

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Walk: Winter at Olde Sturbridge Village
DESCRIPTION:Located an hour west of Boston\, Sturbridge Village is a proud replication of an 18th century New England town. Sturbridge Village is a living history museum that features many authentic period buildings and homes to explore and enjoy. The village is also inhabited by re-enactors who provide colorful insight to life in New England during the 18th century. Sturbridge Village is a wonderful destination for a multitude of photographic opportunities as well as a glimpse into a bygone era.\nOlde Sturbridge Village is perhaps one of the best places to have both a Photo Walk and a class. There’s a little bit of everything at this living history museum\, from macro and closeup with fine details to architecture\, from portraits to landscapes. We will photograph both indoors and outdoors\, in regular light as well as very low light. We will discuss how to work with subjects to create a story\, and also work on settings to fine-tune focus and exposure! This Photo Walk is one of the best opportunities to build your photographic knowledge\, no matter what level. This walk is equally as beneficial as a first walk or a twentieth walk\, as the area has so much to offer!\nJoin us for a great experience!\nPlease note: The cost of your ticket does NOT include the cost of your entrance into Olde Sturbridge Village\, which can be purchased here: https://www.osv.org/plan-your-visit/

SUMMARY:Online: Alternative/Creative- Shooting Through the Looking Glass (and Other Household Objects)
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education’s Emily Hojnowski as we dive into adding a world of creative techniques to your photography! Our Alternative/Creative classes are about getting you to take pictures and think about about your photography from a different perspective! We will give an overview on a specific topic in an online class session\, then give you time to go into the field by yourself (or with someone else\, if you choose) to complete an assignment based on that topic. We will reconvene a few weeks later for an online image review to discuss elements of your images. \nIn this month’s session\, we’ll work with photographing objects in front of the lens. In photography\, we often say not to put anything in front of your lens (except a very high quality filter!) because it can distort your image. But what if the purpose is creative? \nIn this class\, we will discuss both DIY options with household materials as well as using specialty photo tools. We’ll also cover technical and visual aesthetics\, including lighting\, where to place your objects\, and how to create ethereal and unique effects in camera! This class will be a lot of fun with loads of creative possibilities! \nThen\, you’ll put your new knowledge and inspiration into action by creating new images for an image review! \nJoin us\, do something fun\, and get creative!

SUMMARY:Hunt's Nifty Fifty Walk: A Morning in Newburyport
DESCRIPTION:About the Nifty Fifty Workshops\nEvery photographer at one point or another has the internal struggle before going to photograph: What lenses should I bring with me today? The common answer is as many as I can without being too uncomfortable. And so we pack up our wide\, standard\, telephoto\, prime\, and macro lenses and head out into the field\, forcing ourselves to endure limitless choices while sacrificing simplicity.\nOur Nifty Fifty workshops flip the script and force you to only carry one lens: A 50mm lens\, nostalgically referred to as a “nifty fifty”. What can you achieve? \nFor this walk… we will be photographing in Newburyport\, Massachusetts. Newburyport is an eclectic town along the coast\, featuring a blend of new and old architecture amid a variety of shops\, restaurants\, docks\, boats\, and colors. During the walk\, we will photograph in the morning light and work with a 50mm lens to your advantage! We will work on capturing the scene\, but also elements of street photography and storytelling\, if applicable! Photographers of all levels are welcome! \n  \n*Question: Are other prime lenses acceptable? Olympus/Panasonic users may use a 25mm lens\, since it gives the same look as a 50mm and other primes can be used as an alternative\, but we ask that you try to keep it at one prime in as close to that range as possible.

SUMMARY:Creating Cyanotypes Workshop- Hunt's Photo\, Waltham
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education as we dive into a workshop that will quite literally bring you back to the days of film and hand-printing!\nCyanotypes are quite literally BLUE prints that can be simply made by placing a negative on top of a piece of coated paper (or other material) under UV light (or the sun) for a period of time. Once washed in water\, the resulting print produces a brilliant blue image on a white background.\nWe will begin this workshop with a prerecorded session where we will discuss the process\, materials needed\, and the preparation to be working with the cyanotype chemistry (see notes below). We will also discuss how to create a digital negative. For this workshop\, we will be creating our own digital negatives from an inkjet printer\, so you don’t actually need a negative and you don’t need a printer\, as we will be printing them in the store. Finally\, we will also discuss what to print on. Because we will have the ability to coat a material\, be it paper or fabric\, you can use a variety of printing surfaces\, which will elaborate on.\nPlease note: This session will be recorded\, so if you’re signing up last minute\, you can still watch it!\nDuring the workshop\, we will dive into all these elements. We will go through the process of coating (and drying) papers and fabrics\, creating test and final prints\, and discussing additional elements to change the look of our final prints. This is a unique workshop that will emphasize creativity and process.\nA few items of note:\n• In this workshop\, we will be utilizing cyanotype chemistry\, consisting of ferric ammonium citrate (for light sensitivity) and potassium ferricyanide (for color). As described by the chemistry company Photographers Formulary\, “…[Potassium Ferricyanide] is not particularly toxic… [unless] placed in a strong acid solution; however\, strong acid is not used in the cyanotype process.”\n• Because we will be working with chemistry\, you must follow all instructions given regarding chemistry and personal protective equipment.\n• Because this chemistry can stain\, we will be taking precautions and wearing gloves. We strongly recommend bringing an apron\, one that you won’t mind if it changes colors.
