SUMMARY:Hunt's Portrait Workshop: Lighting on Location in Lowell
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for another entry in our series of portrait workshops where we will be showing how to light on location using natural light and supplemental light\, whether it’s flash or LED! We will utilize the natural environment of our location to work into our portraits\, and then\, when necessary\, use lights to make it something spectacular. This workshop is a great opportunity for both beginner and intermediate photographers\, as we’ll build examples of where to place subjects\, when to use lighting\, and what lighting we think works best for that environment. (Lighting will be provided!) \nOur workshop will take place at the Western Ave Studios in Lowell\, which has many unique indoor and outdoor elements that will work well for our portraits.\nFor gear\, we will be using both Westcott (FJ80\, FJ200\, FJ400) strobes/flashes as well as Westcott diffusers as well as a mix of Nanlite and Aputure LED lights\, all of which are excellent brands for creating stunning portraits.\nThis workshop will be co-taught by Hunt’s Photo Educator Paul Nelson and professional photographer Henry Marte. Both have extensive portrait experience and will take you through the full process\, from naturally lighting a subject\, to how to properly expose while using lighting\, to how to actually use the lights themselves!\nPhotographers of all skill levels are encouraged to attend. \nAbout Henry Marte\nHenry is a published photographer and credited filmmaker. He specializes in various forms of photography\, including portrait\, events\, headshots\, drone\, and commercial photography. Other than attending MassArt’s Documentary Film School\, he is almost entirely self taught. He runs a small media production studio called Marte Media\, based out of Western Avenue Studios in Lowell. Some of his clients include Spartan Race\, UMass Lowell\, Phillips Academy\, Navigation Brewing Company\, and more. Originally from NYC\, he now calls Lowell\, Massachusetts his home. He enjoys New York style pizza\, walks with a camera\, and hiking to active volcanoes.

SUMMARY:Online: Personal Vision Series- One Subject\, Four Ways
DESCRIPTION:Introductory Presentation Tuesday March 4th\, 7pm EST\nImage Review – 2 Options! Monday March 24th OR Tuesday March 25th\, 7pm EST \nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education as we help grow your knowledge\, creativity\, and artistic expression with our expanded Personal Vision Series. These classes are designed to provide you time\, opportunity\, and guidance in shaping your creative photographic voice. We will give an overview on a specific topic in an online class session\, then give you time to go into the field by yourself (or with someone else\, if you choose) to complete an assignment based on that topic. We will reconvene a few days later for an online image review to discuss elements of your images.\nThe Personal Vision Series is a crossroads of many different ideas that we offer with Hunt’s Photo Education: Topic-based instruction/classes\, Photo Walks\, & Image Reviews. However\, unlike a Photo Walk where we will all take a certain direction\, for the “Walk” portion\, you will be asked to journey out on your own to photograph. This will cause you to be the driving force of your creativity and vision!\nThis month’s topic is “One Subject\, Four Ways”. It is a good practice for photographers to thoroughly explore their subjects.  Varying light\, time of day\, weather\, lens selection\, color and tones\, and mood all change the appearance of your subject.  Explore one subject and create perspectives of it. \nWe will have an instructional online presentation on the first date and will reconvene for our Image Review on the second date. You will have that time period in between to photograph and edit our assignment. Your personal creative voice is critical to your growth as a photographer and as an artist. Join us for to help grow that voice!

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Workshop: Focus Stacking- Hunt's Photo\, Manchester
DESCRIPTION:Who doesn’t love a nice tack-sharp flower photo? Or a beautiful landscape\, in focus from foreground to background? These images can be created effortlessly\, but sometimes\, there may be a little more effort than you might think!\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Educator Emily Hojnowski for a workshop involving Focus Stacking–the process of combining multiple images\, each with a different focal point\, in order to create an image with far greater depth of field in which all (or most) of the image is in focus!\nOur workshop will begin with our Intro to Focus Stacking class (Monday\, March 3rd). Your registration to this workshop will INCLUDE that class.\nOn Saturday March 8th\, we will work hands-on in the classroom creating focus stacks. We will discuss a myriad of factors\, from subject and composition to camera settings\, tripod effectiveness\, and more! About 3/4 through the workshop\, we will stop photographing and review the stacks on your computer. (While it’s great to bring your computer\, if you cannot\, you are welcome to hand the files off to us and we will demo the process in class with your images.) We will provide feedback\, then give an assignment to create ANOTHER focus stack on your own before our image review session\, date and time TBD!\nThis is a fantastic opportunity to workshop this process from start to finish\, and receive feedback along the way!

SUMMARY:Hollywood Lighting Workshop in the Style of George Hurrell with Bobbi Lane and Lee Varis- Hunt's Photo\, Melrose
DESCRIPTION:Join the dynamic duo of Bobbi Lane and Lee Varis to explore the world of Hollywood glamour\, and learn the photographic style of George Hurrell. Bobbi & Lee will teach you how to achieve the look of the classic Hollywood glamour images of the 1930’s & 40’s using modern lighting tools and digital retouching techniques. Hurrell spent the last 12 years of his life shooting in Bobbi’s studio\, during which he experienced a revival of popularity for his classic style. \nIn this workshop\, you will be learning from her first-hand experience Hurrell’s creative approach to lighting\, styling\, and posing! Hurrell “sculpted’ his subjects with large Tungsten movie lights. In today’s world\, we will use LED lights (courtesy of Nanlite) with Fresnel (pronounced “fre-nel”) and Barn Door attachments. \nThis is a fascinating and dynamic workshop with models dressed and styled in Hollywood fashion. Over two days\, we will cover lighting\, posing and directing\, and how to use this style in the modern world. \nAfter hands-on shooting\, Lee Varis will teach Lightroom and Photoshop retouching techniques that allow you to replicate Hurrell’s classic creamy B&W tones and smooth skin\, without the hours of tedious re-illustration for which he was famous. \nIncluded in this workshop is an introductory webinar on the Hollywood Lighting style to be held on Tuesday March 11th at 7pm EST. (If you can’t attend live\, it will be recorded\, but you should watch it prior to the workshop.) \n  \nAbout Bobbi Lane and Lee Varis \nBobbi Lane and Lee Varis\, accomplished photographers and educators with over 90 years of combined experience\, are excited to share their expertise in their workshops and presentations. DESCRIPTION:About the Nifty Fifty Workshops\nEvery photographer at one point or another has the internal struggle before going to photograph: What lenses should I bring with me today? The common answer is as many as I can without being too uncomfortable. And so we pack up our wide\, standard\, telephoto\, prime\, and macro lenses and head out into the field\, forcing ourselves to endure limitless choices while sacrificing simplicity.\nOur Nifty Fifty workshops flip the script and force you to only carry one lens: A 50mm lens\, nostalgically referred to as a “nifty fifty”. With limitations\, what can you– the photographer\, the creator\, the artist– achieve? \nWalk Description\nFor this workshop\, we will be photographing in one of Boston’s most notable neighborhoods\, and its oldest: The North End. This walk will emphasize telling a story through composition as we workshop street and candid photography! We will discuss managing ISO and shutter speed in low-light conditions to never miss a shot\, as well as the art of blending in and going unnoticed. (And no tripods!) We will also try to get it all right in camera! While you are welcome to shoot in RAW\, we’ll also discuss the joy of shooting for the end result in JPEG! \nOur mission is to use a small handful of our images from the day to capture the essence of the North End neighborhood. \nJoin us for a fun workshop! \n  \n*Question: Are other prime lenses acceptable? Olympus/Panasonic users may use a 25mm lens\, since it gives the same look as a 50mm and other primes can be used as an alternative\, but we ask that you try to keep it at one prime in as close to that range as possible. Remember- this is a “nifty fifty” workshop\, not a “mighty ninety” workshop. (And does that even really rhyme?)

SUMMARY:Online: Personal Vision Series- A Sense of Motion
DESCRIPTION:Introductory Presentation Tuesday May 6th\, 7pm EST\nImage Review – Tuesday May 20th\, 7pm EST \nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education as we help grow your knowledge\, creativity\, and artistic expression with our expanded Personal Vision Series. This will cause you to be the driving force of your creativity and vision!\nThis month’s topic is “A Sense of Motion”. We will have an instructional online presentation on the first date and will reconvene for our Image Review on the second date. You will have that time period in between to photograph and edit our assignment. Your personal creative voice is critical to your growth as a photographer and as an artist. Join us for to help grow that voice!

SUMMARY:Hunt's Portrait Workshop: Urban Portraits with Natural Light (or Flash!)
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for another entry in our series of portrait workshops where we will be utilizing the natural\, urban environment to work into our portraits. Brick buildings and cityscapes will all work into our compositions as we create a more working class feel in our portraits–a very unique look. To a certain extent\, these will be environmental portraits where the environment plays a role in creating the scene. Utilizing your environment in photographs is key to creating a fun portrait shoot! We will emphasize creating these portraits using available light through subject placement and composition with the aid of diffusers and reflectors. We will then separately demonstrate reasons to add in flash.\nWe will begin photographing late afternoon in the sunlight (and shade) and work to sunset in the picturesque brick of downtown Lowell. We will be using Westcott (FJ80\, FJ200\, FJ400) strobes/flashes as well as Westcott diffusers\, both of which are excellent brands for creating stunning portraits.\nThis workshop will be co-taught by Hunt’s Photo Educator Paul Nelson and professional photographer Henry Marte. Both have extensive portrait experience and will take you through the full process\, from naturally lighting a subject\, to how to properly expose while using strobes\, to how to actually use the strobes themselves!\nPhotographers of all skill levels are encouraged to attend.
