SUMMARY:Online: Histograms: How\, When\, and Why to Use Them
DESCRIPTION:Are you tired of your photos being too bright or too dark? Maybe your photos look good on the back of your camera\, but when you view them on your computer you realize your exposure was way off! Are you ready to understand what the histogram is and how to use it to take better pictures? Join Emily Hojnowski of Hunt’s Photo Education as we cover the ins and outs of histograms in photography. We’ll discuss how to read a histogram and use histograms in the field to achieve our best exposures. We’ll cover why histograms are so important and how we can use them to maximize our camera’s dynamic range. Emily will also show you sample images with histograms so we can finally answer the question: What does a perfect histogram look like? The answer may surprise you! \nOverview of topics: \n•What is a histogram?\n•How to use the histogram to take better photos – Viewing histograms in Review mode\, turning histograms on in live view\n•How to read a histogram\n•Why histograms are so important – dynamic range\n•What does a perfect histogram look like (***Spoiler alert! There is no such thing!)\n•Compare histograms vs the photo\n•How to understand the difference between flat\, contrasty\, over and underexposed histograms

They will be recorded and you will be able to watch them at your leisure!\nOur Multi-Session Series is designed to “keep the conversation going” by engaging with our attendees in a more personal way. In each of these classes\, we will have 10-15 attendees and provide direct feedback on images. We encourage photographers of all skill levels to consider these classes\, as they will build upon your experience and provide an excellent chance to work on your imagery!\nLandscape Photography\nLandscape photography is one of the most easily accessible genres of photography and is enjoyed by many. In week two\, we’ll edit landscape images from start to finish using Adobe Lightroom Classic. By week three\, we’ll discuss composition\, dynamic range\, depth of field\, and focus. We’ll also discuss when to shoot in color and when to shoot in black and white. In our last week\, we’ll cover shooting and editing HDR images and panorama images in Adobe Lightroom Classic. We’ll also cover shooting landscapes at night as well as astrolandscapes. Each week\, Emily will give an assignment to hone your new skills and each student will receive individualized critiques. Emily is also available to answer any questions along the way.\nJoin us for this fun and unique multi-session series that will help you develop your skills with landscapes!\nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Filter Workshop: Using Filters in the Field with Waterfalls
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a morning of learning what filters we want to use in photography\, how to use them\, and then go out into the field to get some hands-on practice!\nWe will begin in our Hunt’s Photo Manchester classroom to learn about filters\, how to use them properly\, how to attach them to the camera\, and\, if applicable\, purchase filters. We will then travel a short distance to a NEW location (about 20-25 minutes away) to our waterfall location to practice long exposures. (Please note: Our location is TBA. To minimize confusion\, we will let you know in the reminder email a few days prior to the event.)  UV\, Circular Polarizer (CPL)\, and Neutral Density (ND) filters are all recommended. Students may choose to shoot from the banks of the river\, but the best shots will happen by walking along some rocks. Waterproof boots are your friend!\nWhether you’ve used filters and still have questions\, you’ve never used filters\, or you need a little inspiration\, this is a great opportunity to have some fun with filters!

SUMMARY:Hunt's Horror Lighting Portrait Workshop III: Night of the Lighting Dead!
DESCRIPTION:It’s the scariest time of the year. No\, we’re not talking about tax season– It’s Halloween! Join us for our annual Horror Lighting Portrait Workshop! In this workshop\, we will create portraits utilizing a style of lighting reminiscent to that used in Horror films!\nIn this workshop\, we will begin by discussing the style of Horror Lighting\, using examples from the history of horror\, from classic 1930s Universal horror films to 1980s slasher to more modern\, experimental techniques. Instructor Paul Nelson has spent painstaking hours and buckets of popcorn to research the intricacies of horror\, and\, believe it or not\, it’s not all just “monster lighting”. We will then photograph both inside and (if weather allows) outside to both recreate and create new in-the-style-of scenes to photograph. We will utilize both our Hunt’s Photo Melrose classrooms as well as locations in the surrounding area to great effect. We’ll discuss how to light and what to use\, create shadows and textures\, use studio space and real-life locations\, work with models and more!\nIn this workshop\, we will cover:\n• How to compose the lighting in a scene\, including how and when to use flash vs LED\n• Flash and LED lighting (important enough to write it on here twice)\n• Using lighting indoor or outside\n• Creating dynamic shadows and effects in your work with lighting\, as well as other light modification\n• How to work with (posing and directing) models to achieve a desired look\n• Developing a creative concept in portraits\, not only using lighting and posing\, but also costumes\, hair\, and make-up\nYou do not need to own a flash or lighting to attend this workshop. Photographers of all skill levels are encouraged to attend.\nJoin us for this unique\, fun\, and perhaps horrific workshop!

SUMMARY:Hunt's Film Photo Workshop: A Morning in Rockport
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education and photographer Tessa Klingensmith for a unique walk in the Rockport…with film cameras! \nOn this walk\, we will photograph around downtown Rockport utilizing your film cameras. (You can also bring a digital camera\, but the emphasis will be about shooting on film!) Amongst other topics\, we will talk about exposure\, focus\, and composition. Attendees will need to have a working film camera and at least one roll of film. \nAfter the walk\, we will have an online image review\, which means attendees will need to develop and scan their film to submit images. You can either bring in your roll of film to Hunt’s to have it developed OR\, if you want to learn about film processing\, you can sign up for our Developing Film classes!  (Scanning is included in the cost of that class!)\nThis walk is an excellent opportunity to work on so many varying elements and your skills as a photographer! \nA few notes about our Film Photo Walks\n• Attendees should have a working film camera that they can use for the walk as well as any film they would like to use.\n• Please make sure you have a working battery in the camera.\n• If you are unsure whether your camera is fully functional\, we strongly recommend you contact us at classes@huntsphoto.com and schedule a time that we can check it out!\n• It is also strongly recommended that you either load the film in advance or have an understanding of how to load the film. Again\, if you’re unsure\, contact us at classes@huntsphoto.com \n• You can choose to shoot in black & white or color film. If you are unsure\, a good place to start for black & white film is Kodak Tri-X or Ilford HP5+\, and for color Kodak Gold or Ultramax\, or Fujifilm Superia. There are so many other brands and styles\, but these are the most basic and easy-to-use. \n• Our instructors know film cameras! But we don’t always know EVERY camera immediately\, so as we state above\, please plan accordingly if you’re unsure.\n• And if you do not have a film camera\, Hunt’s Photo stocks a great deal of used film cameras! \n• This is a film photo walk. You’re also welcome to bring a digital camera\, but the emphasis will be about shooting on film! \n  \nAbout Tessa Klingensmith \nTessa Klingensmith is a Salem based photographer with years of experience both in the field and in the lab. SUMMARY:Online: Alternative/Creative- Color Theory
DESCRIPTION:Color theory is the study of how colors work in harmony together and how they affect our feelings and viewpoints. Knowing color theory makes us a better photographer in many ways. It helps us see the world in a new way\, giving us insight into subject choices and stronger compositions. Color theory also aids in the editing process\, allowing us to make faster and more succinct decisions in the hue\, saturation\, and luminance of the tones in our images. We can use color theory to enhance the emotions and messages we hope to portray in our images. \nJoin us for a fun evening where Emily Hojnowski\, Lead Educator at Hunt’s Photo\, shares her passion for both the science and aesthetics of color! Then\, you’ll put your new knowledge and inspiration into action by creating new images for an image review!  \nJoin us\, do something fun\, and get creative!
