DESCRIPTION:About the Nifty Fifty Workshops\nEvery photographer at one point or another has the internal struggle before going to photograph: What lenses should I bring with me today? The common answer is as many as I can without being too uncomfortable. And so we pack up our wide\, standard\, telephoto\, prime\, and macro lenses and head out into the field\, forcing ourselves to endure limitless choices while sacrificing simplicity.\nOur Nifty Fifty workshops flip the script and force you to only carry one lens: A 50mm lens\, nostalgically referred to as a “nifty fifty”. What can you achieve? \nFor this walk… we will be photographing in Newburyport\, Massachusetts. Newburyport is an eclectic town along the coast\, featuring a blend of new and old architecture amid a variety of shops\, restaurants\, docks\, boats\, and colors. During the walk\, we will photograph in the morning light and work with a 50mm lens to your advantage! We will work on capturing the scene\, but also elements of street photography and storytelling\, if applicable! Photographers of all levels are welcome! \n  \n*Question: Are other prime lenses acceptable? Olympus/Panasonic users may use a 25mm lens\, since it gives the same look as a 50mm and other primes can be used as an alternative\, but we ask that you try to keep it at one prime in as close to that range as possible.

SUMMARY:Online: Multi-Session Series- Mastering Manual Mode
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for our Multi-Session Series. In our Multi-Session Series\, we will meet over the course of a number of weeks\, generally at the same time each week. During that time\, we will discuss a specific element of a topic and end the session by giving a photographic assignment. That assignment will be due for completion before the next class meeting\, and we will review those images at the start of the next session. If for some reason you cannot attend one of the sessions\, don’t worry! They will be recorded and you will be able to watch them at your leisure!\nOur Multi-Session Series is designed to “keep the conversation going” by engaging with our attendees in a more personal way. In each of these classes\, we will have 10-15 attendees and provide direct feedback on images. We encourage photographers of all skill levels to consider these classes\, as they will build upon your experience and provide an excellent chance to work on your imagery! \nMastering Manual Mode\nLearning about photography can be a real challenge. There are so many pieces to the puzzle of photography\, some of which use confusing terminology. For this reason\, we often start newcomers off using the Priority Modes because it’s “easier”. In reality\, these priority modes are just a short-term solution. It’s important to fully understand the “why” and “how” of your camera settings\, and learning to master manual is an excellent way to do so. \nThis Multi-Session Series will focus on Mastering Manual Mode. In week 1\, we’ll cover the technical side of aperture\, shutter\, and ISO. We’ll also discuss metering modes\, reading your meter\, and understanding histograms. In week 2\, we’ll learn to control depth of field\, focusing\, and how lens choice affects aperture choice. By week 3\, we’ll discuss how to use shutter speed effectively to either blur your motion or freeze your action. We’ll talk about shooting at night and in low light. We’ll also talk about ISO and how it controls image noise. In week 4\, we’ll put everything together by discussing dynamic range\, white balance\, and how to get the correct exposure in camera every time. We’ll also answer the most important question of all: which change should I make to achieve my desired results? \nEach week Emily will give an assignment to help further the topics covered in that week’s class. Students are encouraged to send in assignments that will be individually critiqued by Emily each week. DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for a late afternoon photo walk in Boston’s burgeoning South Boston Waterfront and the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA). During the walk\, we will discuss many of the aspects of photographing in low light and at blue hour\, including exposure\, focusing\, composition\, and more\, as well as photographing artwork and art spaces. \nWe will meet and photograph our way down the Waterfront to the ICA\, entering just after sunset. We will explore the museum for the last 30-60 minutes. Tickets into the ICA are free on Thursday nights\, but a ticket must be secured in advance. Please note: This will be a hand-held\, tripod free\, event\, so fast lenses are recommended. Travel light\, shoot fast! \nPhotographers of all levels are welcome! \n

DESCRIPTION:Come see your photography through the eyes of a kid and transform your toys into life size photos!\nIn this dual macro/still life class\, we’ll spend our day creating a variety of still life set ups\, unique macro scenarios\, different lighting techniques\, compositions\, and how to tell a story when working with toys. We will cover exposure\, composition\, how to use macro lenses and extension tubes\, how to set up lighting\, how to use light modifiers and more! \nWe will be bringing lots of toys and other props to photograph for this workshop. However\, we find in our macro workshops that our attendees value shooting some things of their own as much if not more than what we bring. So\, while we will have those toys and props\, feel free to bring your own!
