We’ll discuss changing depth-of-field (controlling what’s in focus in the background\, stopping or blurring the action in your scene\, and many other basic picture-taking techniques. We recommend taking this class prior to Digital Photography Basics 2\, which is the next logical step! \nJoin us to start learning about Digital Photography! \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. DESCRIPTION:The 25th Anniversary Cruisin’ Downtown takes place in Manchester\, NH and is promoted as New England’s largest classic car show! The show shuts down Elm St for most of Saturday\, allowing spectators to explore the hundreds and hundreds of classic cars. We’ll arrive early in the day as cars are setting up and before crowds have gotten too thick to allow us the best access to all the compositions we desire. This is also an excellent opportunity to practice street photography and use a CPL filter. Travel light and have fun!

The museum has a collection of vehicles that show how public transportation has changed through the years. On this workshop we will discuss subject development\, composition\, exposure\, circular polarizers\, fine art photography\, and more! \nWe will also photograph with an emphasis on Wabi-sabi. Wabi-sabi is a Japanese concept that centers around beauty in imperfection and the acceptance of transience. In photography\, we can use this aesthetic to find and compose unique and interesting subjects. The Seashore Trolley Museum has a plethora of aged and imperfect subjects for us to work with.  Join us for this fun-filled and unique walk!

Dorrs Pond is a recreational area with a gorgeous nature trail that leads around the pond with lots of birds! For this reason\, we often start newcomers off using the “Priority Modes” (Ex. Aperture Priority) because it’s “easier”. In reality\, these priority modes are just one solution. For some photographers\, there is only the manual mode. But why is it important to shoot in the Manual mode? Are there reasons to use manual vs. Aperture priority and vice-versa? How can we maximize usability?\nIn this class\, we will cover:\n• Your Camera’s Light Meter and how it works\n• Use of Aperture Priority vs. Manual modes\n• Histograms\n• Photographing in RAW vs. Jpeg\nUnderstanding the full-functionality of your camera is a necessity to improving your flexibility when photographing in a variety of situations. This course is designed to help you feel more comfortable about how to change your camera’s settings in those situations. It is recommended as a follow-up to our Beginner Photography course.

DESCRIPTION:Photography has the power to freeze time\, to capture the world and reality. In most people’s mind photography has to be truthful to reality. It has to depict a scene\, and atmosphere\, and event accurately. But photography is so much more than a simple tool to document our lives…\nIt is also a way to express ourselves\, our point of view\, to share our messages. Photography is art. Photography can be abstract and minimalist. It allows us to change what we see based on our emotions and intent.\nLong exposure is a technique that embraces this approach: it transforms reality into something else\, into a dialogue between the artist\, the subject and viewer. By stretching the time used to capture a single image\, the photographer includes movement in their art: water becomes smooth\, clouds create long silky streaks\, trees blur out in the wind… the effects are endless. Long exposure is a different mindset. One that comes from within and uses what is out there in order to produce unique and breathtaking images. Images that go beyond documenting and bridge into the Fine Arts.\nIn this technical lecture\, Thibault Roland will introduce long exposure and will discuss the equipment needed to shoot with this technique. At the end of the presentation\, you will have a checklist of the different steps to follow as well as tips and tricks that will help you take breathtaking images using this unique approach. \n  \nAbout Thibault: Born in France in 1981\, Sony Artisan of Imagery Thibault Roland is a scientist by training and fine art photographer. Thanks to his rigorous background he became a Master of techniques such as long exposure\, tilt/shift and infrared photography. He specializes in black and white architecture\, minimalism and seascapes. His fine art photographs have been shown\, published and awarded internationally and are included in public and private collections such as at the Boston Athenaeum. Previously an instructor at the New England School of Photography\, Thibault teaches workshops and gives seminars internationally. This online class invites you to explore photography through the lens of wabi sabi—the Japanese philosophy that celebrates impermanence\, imperfection\, and the simple\, unpolished beauty of the everyday world.\nThrough guided discussion\, visual examples\, and a creative assignment\, you’ll learn how to:\n\n\nSee beyond perfection and embrace the raw\, unrefined charm of your surroundings.\n\n\nWork with natural light\, texture\, and negative space to create images that feel grounded and authentic.\n\n\nDevelop a personal photographic practice that values mindfulness\, patience\, and presence.\n\n\nIn our presentation session\, we will discuss all about wabi sabi\, with varying examples of the concept. At the end of session 1\, we will give an assignment to complete for our second session. In the second session\, we will discuss your work and the work of others in an online image review.   This will be an excellent opportunity to not only receive feedback on your own work\, but also see the creative visions of others\, too! \nThis class isn’t about technical mastery—it’s about shifting your perspective. SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Walk: Piers Park\, East Boston
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for a photo walk at Piers Park in East Boston. During the walk\, we will discuss shooting in lower light with an emphasis on night photography. This will include assistance with exposure\, composition\, focusing\, use of tripods\, and a myriad of other settings and concepts!\nMuch of East Boston consists of dense residential neighborhoods\, in part as a carryover from the area?s heavy influx of immigration at the turn of the previous century\, and in part to its proximity to downtown Boston. Piers Park was developed in the mid-1990s as a contrast to this\, offering beautiful landscaping\, natural vegetation\, and stunning views of downtown Boston. On this walk\, we will photograph the grounds of Piers Park and the skyline during blue hour\, sunset\, and civil twilight. Photographers of all levels are welcome!

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Walk: Canterbury Shaker Village
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for a photo walk at the historic Canterbury Shaker Village.\nShakers were a religious group formed in England in the 1700s from a variety of religions\, including English Quakers and Methodists. (Shakers were named based on their ecstatic dance\, initially known as “Shaking Quakers”.) Shaker communities sprouted throughout Northeastern Colonial America\, eventually heading westward. Due to the celibate nature of the communities\, the Shaker communities dwindled into the 20th century\, including the Canterbury Shaker Village\, whose last surviving members died in the early 1990s. Founded in 1965\, the Canterbury Shaker Village preserves the heritage of the Canterbury Shaker Community from the past two centuries. The settlement is complete with original Shaker buildings\, as well as the surrounding area of forests\, fields\, gardens\, nature trails\, and mill ponds.\nOn this walk\, we will photograph the outside buildings of this historic sect’s wholly simple (and simply holy) lives. We will attempt to tell the story of the Shakers through what they left behind. This will include an emphasis on Composition and discussing Black & White\, architecture\, and close-up photography. Come photograph a fascinating historical lifestyle! Photographers of all skill levels are encouraged to attend!

SUMMARY:The Hunt's Photo Education Black and White Weekend Workshop 2026
DESCRIPTION:Hunt’s Photo Education Presents…The Weekend Workshops: A long weekend featuring education seminars\, photo walks and workshops\, image reviews\, editing\, and fine art printing\, all in glorious black and white. \nDuring the weekend\, each attendee will have the opportunity to attend four Photo Walks/Workshops. We will have an introductory meet and greet and presentation on the first evening that will set the tone and expectations for the weekend\, as well as allow attendees to mingle with other attendees. On days 2 and 3\, our instructors will conduct one Photo Walk in the mid/late morning and one Photo Walk in the evening. They will repeat the same schedule on Friday and Saturday. (So\, if you attend a Photo Walk with Instructor A on Friday morning\, you’ll have the ability to attend a different Photo Walk with Instructor B on Saturday morning.)\nDuring the middle part of Friday and Saturday\, we will have image reviews\, image processing\, and have general photography discussions. You are welcome to attend these\, or you can take a break\, if needed! \nOn Day 4\, we will print and review selected images from all attendees. You are welcome to take these images with you after the workshop! \nThis year will be centered out of our Hunt’s Photo Melrose store location. Our Melrose store has a large classroom area which will be excellent for our editing and review sessions! For planning purposes\, be aware that many of our walks and workshops will be taking place outside of the Melrose area and you will need to travel to those locations. \nJoin us for a fantastic weekend of photo fun! \n  \nPlease Note: We are in the process of finalizing our Photo Walk/Workshop Schedule. These walks will not be posted\, but we will inform you of locations in the week leading up to the event.

(Hunt’s Photo sells most film camera batteries.)
