DESCRIPTION:Registration for this event is taken by the Wakefield Rec Department at this Link!\nThursdays September 24th\, October 1st\, 8th\, 15th\, 22nd & 29th\, 4:30-5:45pm • Hunt’s Photo\, Melrose \nOver the course of the sessions\, we will cover a wide range of topics\, from composition & perspective to depth of field & movement. In every session we’ll have a brief introduction to a topic followed by a fun practical exercise. Our goal is to get your photographers taking pictures as much as possible!  At the end of each session\, we’ll look back on the images to see what we liked about them. \nOur goal in this program is to have a lot of fun and not bog students down with too much technical stuff. However\, we will also scaffold instruction\, so if an attendee wants to know more about the technical aspects\, they still can! Please note: This course is geared towards students aged 11-16 years old. Our age requirement is general and a certain maturity level is helpful.  Younger students with interest and a level of responsibility are welcome to attend. \nStudents will be required to have some kind of camera. We generally recommend a DSLR or mirrorless camera\, but if you’re unsure\, feel free to contact us at classes@huntsphoto.com \nThis will be a fun program with experienced instruction. SUMMARY:Hunt's Horror Lighting Portrait Workshop V: What We Shoot in the Shadows (with guest photographer Lindsey Ruth)
DESCRIPTION:It’s the scariest time of the year…again! No\, we’re not talking about tax season– It’s Halloween! Join us for our annual Horror Lighting Portrait Workshop! In this workshop\, we will create portraits utilizing a style of lighting reminiscent to that used in Horror films!\nIn this workshop\, we will begin by discussing the style of Horror Lighting\, using examples from the history of horror\, from classic 1930s Universal horror films to 1980s slasher to more modern\, experimental techniques. Instructor Paul Nelson has spent painstaking hours and buckets of popcorn to research the intricacies of horror\, and\, believe it or not\, it’s not all just “monster lighting”. We will photograph both inside and (if weather allows) outside to both recreate and create new in-the-style-of scenes to photograph. We will utilize both our Hunt’s Photo Melrose classrooms as well as locations in the surrounding area to great effect. We’ll discuss how to light and what to use\, create shadows and textures\, use studio space and real-life locations\, work with models and more!\nIn this workshop\, we will cover:\n• How to compose the lighting in a scene\, including how and when to use flash vs LED\n• Flash and LED lighting (important enough to write it on here twice)\n• Using lighting indoor or outside\n• Creating dynamic shadows and effects in your work with lighting\, as well as other light modification\n• How to work with (posing and directing) models to achieve a desired look\n• Developing a creative concept in portraits\, not only using lighting and posing\, but also costumes\, hair\, and make-up\nYou do not need to own a flash or lighting to attend this workshop. Photographers of all skill levels are encouraged to attend. \nAdded Bonus! \nThis year\, we will be joined by guest photographer and SIGMA Ambassador Lindsey Ruth\, as well as SIGMA lenses! This session provides an in-depth look into vintage inspired editing techniques in Photoshop to create timeless\, nostalgic edits. This online workshop will break down the editing process step by step using portraits from the Vintage Portrait Workshop and will go over topics such as color grading\, applying textures\, creative editing tricks\, and much more. (You do not need to have attended the Vinatage Portrait Workshop to register!)\n  \nLINDSEY RUTH is a Los Angeles based studio photographer specializing in surrealist portraiture. She began photography over a decade ago with an approach focused on blending post-production and mixed media techniques to create unique works. In 2025\, she joined the ambassador team at Sigma America. \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. We will also send a reminder email about 24 hours prior to the class time with that same information. \nLayout of the class\nThe class will begin promptly at the time listed. The majority of the class–90 minutes– will be a presentation on the topic\, followed by a short Q&A. During the class\, you are welcome to type in questions in the Chat box if you have specific questions as they are asked. We will do our best to answer those questions\, but if not\, feel free to ask them at the end. \n“You Are Being Recorded” (And Other Note Related Items)\nWe will be recording this class! SUMMARY:Hunt's Portrait Workshop: Lighting on Location ft. Dia De Los Muertos
DESCRIPTION:Join photographer Henry Marte and Hunt’s Photo Education for a unique portrait workshop where we will demonstrate how to light a subject in any environment utilizing natural light and supplemental light (flash or LED). \nLighting on Location means that you’re lighting in a real-world environment and not just a studio. Our workshop will take place at the Western Ave Studios in Lowell\, which features unique indoor elements\, such as old stairways\, weathered brick\, and cracking cement\, and outdoor locations\, such as a garden\, railroad tracks. We will utilize the natural environment of our location to work into our portraits\, and then use lights to make it something spectacular. This workshop is a great opportunity for both beginner and intermediate photographers\, as we’ll build examples of where to place subjects\, when to use lighting\, and what lighting we think works best for that environment. (Lighting will be provided!) \nThe theme for this workshop is Dia De Los Muertos. Our models will be made up and dressed in the style shown in the photos above\, with make-up provided by @lisa_la_colorista! \nFor gear\, we will be using both Westcott (FJ200\, FJ400\, FJ800) strobes/flashes as well as Westcott diffusers as well as a mix of Nanlite and Aputure LED lights\, all of which are excellent brands for creating stunning portraits. \nThis workshop will be co-taught by Hunt’s Photo Educator Paul Nelson and professional photographer Henry Marte. Both have extensive portrait experience and will take you through the full process\, from naturally lighting a subject\, to how to properly expose while using lighting\, to how to actually use the lights themselves! \nPhotographers of all skill levels are encouraged to attend. \nAbout Henry Marte\nHenry is a published photographer and credited filmmaker. He specializes in various forms of photography\, including portrait\, events\, headshots\, drone\, and commercial photography. Other than attending MassArt’s Documentary Film School\, he is almost entirely self taught. He runs a small media production studio called Marte Media\, based out of Western Avenue Studios in Lowell. Some of his clients include Spartan Race\, UMass Lowell\, Phillips Academy\, Navigation Brewing Company\, and more. Originally from NYC\, he now calls Lowell\, Massachusetts his home. He enjoys New York style pizza\, walks with a camera\, and hiking to active volcanoes.

DESCRIPTION:Registration for this event is taken by the Wakefield Rec Department at this Link!\nWednesdays September 30th\, October 7th\, 14th\, 21st\, 28th & November 4th\, 4:30-6pm • Hunt’s Photo\, Melrose \nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education for a 6-session photography program aimed at strengthening their photographic skills while also learning a bit about how to take the best portraits.\n\nOver the course of the sessions\, we will cover a wide range of topics\, including portrait composition\, posing\, direction and interaction with the subject\, lighting (indoors and outside)\, editing and more! In every session we’ll have a brief introduction to a topic followed by a fun practical exercise. Our goal is to get your photographers taking pictures as much as possible! At the end of each session\, we’ll look back on the images to see what we liked about them.\nAs this is a class about portraits\, all attendees should be ready to have their picture taken! The best way to learn about how to pose and direct your subject is to be a subject yourself\, and that’s what these sessions aim to do. In the end\, attendees should have a better understanding of what makes a successful portrait\, how to execute it\, and also have some great shots of themselves! \nPrerequisites: \n–Attendees should have a little bit of experience with their cameras. They do not need to be experts\, but this shouldn’t be the first time using their camera. We also offer our Intro to Photography program if you are just starting out. \n-This course is geared towards students aged 11-16 years old. Our goal is to get your photographers taking pictures as much as possible!  At the end of each session\, we’ll look back on the images to see what we liked about them. \nOur goal in this program is to have a lot of fun and not bog students down with too much technical stuff. However\, we will also scaffold instruction\, so if an attendee wants to know more about the technical aspects\, they still can!
