DESCRIPTION:Introduction on Comparing Papers- Wednesday March 4th\, 6:30pm ET • Online! \nPrint Review- Wednesday March 11th\, 6:30pm ET • Hunt’s Melrose or Online! \nThe printed image shows our successes and our faults at a much higher level of detail than the digital image. To become better photographers\, it helps to understand this by creating the printed image as a final product. \nThis Month’s Printed Vision Session: Printing Flowers! \nEveryone wants to print flowers. There is such a mass appeal of flowers for such obvious reasons\, including their impermanence and their vibrancy of color. Therefore\, it only makes sense that flowers should be printed to display that level of vibrance for a long period of time! In this session\, we will focus our energies on not only the editing process\, but choosing the right surface of paper and size of paper. Among the topics discussed matte vs. glossy papers\, the importance of textured papers\, the illusive rice papers and natural/eco-friendly papers\, printing with borders and considering creating alternative borders\, and more! We will really be digging deep to think about what we are doing\, why we’re doing it\, and what we want to do! \nThis Print Review topic will meet for two sessions. In the first session\, we will discuss the topic– some of the key differences between paper surfaces– and present a variety of options for you to have your image printed. In between sessions 1 and 2\, attendees will independently process 1-2 images and submit them to the instructor for printing. Educator Paul Nelson will produce a recorded image review\, discussing paper options\, editing suggestions\, and more\, to be sent back to you leading up to the second session. Paul will then print images for the class. In the end\, you will receive a print of one of your edited images up to 13×19″ in size. (Please note: We are happy to make a larger or additional print outside of the class for an additional fee!) \nJoin us for an informative Printed Review class! \nA Note About The Printed Review Series \nOur Print Review Monthly is a chance to continue the print conversation over the course of many months. However\, unlike a Photo Walk where we will all take a certain direction\, for the “Walk” portion\, you will be asked to journey out on your own to photograph. SUMMARY:Online: Special Guest Series- Hollywood Lighting in the Style of George Hurrell with Bobbi Lane
DESCRIPTION:George Hurrell was the greatest Hollywood Glamour photographer\, establishing the style in the early 30’s by photographing publicity images of the movie stars for MGM. Hurrell sculpted with light\, chiseling the subject’s features with bright highlights and deep shadows that created mystery and depth. He used large focusing fresnels (pronounced “fre-nel”)\, the same ones the movie studios still use today and photographed the major stars in Hollywood: Bogart\, Crawford (his favorite model)\,  Davis\, Deitrich\, Harlow\, “Bojangles”\, Gable\, Cooper\, Garbo\, Hepburn\, Tracy\, and more! From 1980 until 1992\, Hurrell rented Bobbi Lane’s studio in Los Angeles\, bringing in lighting along with furniture and props\, continuing to photograph the biggest stars of the day- Harrison Ford\, Arnold Schwarzenegger\, Diana Ross\, Queen\, the Talking Heads\, Liam Neeson\, Johnny Mathis\, Paul McCartney and many more. \nThis online seminar will cover Hurrell’s history and background as a painter and how he developed into a photographer. Bobbi will examine his techniques in lighting as well as his completing his concept of his subjects. Hurrell’s attention to detail was superb\, and she will show images he made during the time he photographed in Bobbi’s LA studio. \nCome learn this beautiful and fascinating style from one of the few that worked with the photographic master George Hurrell! \n  \n  \nAbout Bobbi Lane and Lee Varis \nBobbi Lane and Lee Varis\, accomplished photographers and educators with over 90 years of combined experience\, are excited to share their expertise in their workshops and presentations. SUMMARY:Online: Multi-Session Series- Mastering Manual Mode
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for our Multi-Session Series. In our Multi-Session Series\, we will meet over the course of a number of weeks\, generally at the same time each week. During that time\, we will discuss a specific element of a topic and end the session by giving a photographic assignment. That assignment will be due for completion before the next class meeting\, and we will review those images at the start of the next session. If for some reason you cannot attend one of the sessions\, don’t worry! They will be recorded and you will be able to watch them at your leisure!\nOur Multi-Session Series is designed to “keep the conversation going” by engaging with our attendees in a more personal way. In each of these classes\, we will have 10-15 attendees and provide direct feedback on images. We encourage photographers of all skill levels to consider these classes\, as they will build upon your experience and provide an excellent chance to work on your imagery! \nMastering Manual Mode\nLearning about photography can be a real challenge. There are so many pieces to the puzzle of photography\, some of which use confusing terminology. For this reason\, we often start newcomers off using the Priority Modes because it’s “easier”. In reality\, these priority modes are just a short-term solution. It’s important to fully understand the “why” and “how” of your camera settings\, and learning to master manual is an excellent way to do so. \nThis Multi-Session Series will focus on Mastering Manual Mode. In week 1\, we’ll cover the technical side of aperture\, shutter\, and ISO. We’ll also discuss metering modes\, reading your meter\, and understanding histograms. In week 2\, we’ll learn to control depth of field\, focusing\, and how lens choice affects aperture choice. By week 3\, we’ll discuss how to use shutter speed effectively to either blur your motion or freeze your action. We’ll talk about shooting at night and in low light. We’ll also talk about ISO and how it controls image noise. In week 4\, we’ll put everything together by discussing dynamic range\, white balance\, and how to get the correct exposure in camera every time. We’ll also answer the most important question of all: which change should I make to achieve my desired results? \nEach week Emily will give an assignment to help further the topics covered in that week’s class. Students are encouraged to send in assignments that will be individually critiqued by Emily each week. In the summer of 2021\, Jonathan collaborated with renowned photographer Mary Beth Meehan to produce Witness\, an exhibition that explores the life and times of his late grandmother\, Annye Raye Pitts. In December 2022\, his was one of five portraits selected for the City of Providence’s “Who We Are Now?” public art banner project.\nA Yale graduate\, Jonathan is the Creative Director at Curiosity Store in Jamestown\, Rhode Island and has\, since 2010\, been the Artistic Director of Pawtucket\, RI’s Mixed Magic Theatre. Jonathan is married to Mixed Magic’s music director\, Kim Morrison Pitts-Wiley.
