DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for our new Multi-Session Series. In our Multi-Session Series\, we will meet over the course of a number of weeks\, generally at the same time each week. During that time\, we will discuss a specific element of a topic and end the session by giving a photographic assignment. That assignment will be due for completion before the next class meeting\, and we will review those images at the start of the next session. If for some reason you cannot attend one of the sessions\, don’t worry! They will be recorded and you will be able to watch them at your leisure!\nOur Multi-Session Series is designed to “keep the conversation going” by engaging with our attendees in a more personal way. In each of these classes\, we will have limited attendees and provide direct feedback on images. We encourage photographers of all skill levels to consider these classes\, as they will build upon your experience and provide an excellent chance to work on your imagery!\nEditing in Adobe Lightroom\nThis is a great opportunity to build up your editing skills in Lightroom!\nAdobe Lightroom is the choice program for professionals and amateurs\, with ever-growing capabilities and options. However\, there are many levels to understanding in the program. What do we do to make basic changes? Once we learn those changes\, how can we “step it up” and figure out what to we’re supposed to do? How do we make images pop? And finally\, how do we put it all together and making finishing touches to our images.\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education for this three-week course that helps answer many of these questions. What’s most important about this course is that we will give weekly editing assignments\, and we will review those edits at the start of the following week. Often\, Lightroom users struggle with the inability to determine what changes are “good” or “correct”. While those terms are subjective\, we will help you along in the editing process to see how to make determinations along the way.\nIn week one\, we’ll talk about file types and adjustment ranges using Basic Development controls. More than anything\, we will be emphasizing global changes and understanding what can be done with an image in Lightroom. In week two\, we’ll dive into Color\, Curves\, Contrast & Clarity & Texture and begin to discuss a variety of masking techniques. These changes will help make your images pop. Finally\, in week three\, we’ll discuss advanced editing\, including Sharpening\, HDR\, Pano stitching and more.\nEach week\, we will give an assignment and students will upload their edited photos prior to the next class. There’s so much to the printing process that is foreign and never covered in standard courses\, and so in this course\, we will begin to cover some of the basics.\nIn this two session course\, we’ll discuss the following topics:\n-Organization- How to use your software (ANY software) to work for you to prepare your vision\n-Culling your images- Reducing the quantity of images you use to strengthen your end result\n-Pre-visualization- Begin to develop your storytelling journey by letting the images guide you!\n-Exporting & Importing- How do we bring the images out of the program we’re using and at what settings\n-Online options and standalone programs for building books\, calendars\, and more.\n-Layouts- What are some of the basic design elements that we can employee? What can be automated and what do we have to do from scratch?\n-Storytelling- This is the glue that holds the book together! (Figuratively\, not literally.) How do we keep interest for 20 pages? 50 pages? 100 pages? \nMuch of the conversation in this course will be demonstrated using Adobe Lightroom Classic\, but other programs (Capture One\, Apple Photos) can also be discussed and are just as applicable. \nA note about printing: Please be aware\, we will NOT be printing books in this class\, only showing the process. DESCRIPTION:Introduction- Thursday June 4th\, 6:30pm ET • Online! \nPrint Review- Thursday June 11th\, 6pm ET • Hunt’s Melrose or Online! \nThe printed image shows our successes and our faults at a much higher level of detail than the digital image. To become better photographers\, it helps to understand this by creating the printed image as a final product. \nThis Month’s Printed Vision Session: Printing BIG and small \n“If you can’t make it good\, make it big\, and if you can’t make it big\, make it red.” – Attributed to many artists \nGo big or go home? Are many small pieces equal to one big piece? In this class\, we will look at printing big and printing small and discuss what images work on the large and small scale. We will then create one large and one small print\, looking critically at both end results! \nThis Print Review topic will meet for two sessions. In the first session\, we will discuss the topic  and present a variety of options for you to have your image printed. In between sessions 1 and 2\, attendees will independently process 1-2 images and submit them to the instructor for printing. Educator Paul Nelson will produce a recorded image review\, discussing paper options\, editing suggestions\, and more\, to be sent back to you leading up to the second session. Paul will then print images for the class. In the end\, you will receive two prints–one big and one small. DESCRIPTION:The printed image shows our successes and our faults at a much higher level of detail than the digital image. To become better photographers\, it helps to understand this by creating the printed image as a final product. \nThis Month’s Printed Vision Session: Printing on Rice Paper! \nRice paper is a style of paper that is delicate\, unique\, and tells a story! This is a fabulous style of paper that is underutilized in the printing world but can ultimately produce stellar and very different images! \nThis Print Review topic will meet for two sessions. In the first session\, we will discuss the topic– some of the key differences between paper surfaces\, considerations what images to choose to print on Rice Paper\, how to best edit your images\, paper selection\, and other important elements of making a print on Rice Paper.  Attendees will independently process 1-2 images and upload them to the instructor\, educator Paul Nelson\, for review. Paul will send back a video image review discussing what you did and how to improve your edits for print. Paul will then print images on two papers for comparison. You may choose to have the same image printed twice (recommended) or two separate images. Due to size restrictions of rice paper\, we will be limiting the size of these prints to no larger than 8.5 x 11\, although we are happy to make a larger print outside of the class for an additional fee. \nJoin us for this unique Printed Review class! \nA Note About The Printed Review Series \nOur Print Review Monthly is a chance to continue the print conversation over the course of many months. What does it take to create a landscape image that stands out? Join Hunt’s Photo Education as we go beyond “F8 and be there” and dive deep into the technical\, artistic\, and practical aspects of landscape photography.\nIn week one\, we’ll cover what it takes to plan and the settings necessary for your best shots. We’ll also talk about the gear all landscape photographers should have in their bags and what to do when the weather just won’t cooperate. In week two\, we’ll edit landscape images from start to finish using Adobe Lightroom Classic. By week three\, we’ll discuss composition\, dynamic range\, depth of field\, and focus. We’ll also discuss when to shoot in color and when to shoot in black and white. In our last week\, we’ll cover shooting and editing HDR images and panorama images in Adobe Lightroom Classic. DESCRIPTION:Introduction on Printing in Black & White- Wednesday April 8th\, 6:30pm ET • Online! \nPrint Review- Wednesday April 15th\, 6:30pm ET • Hunt’s Melrose or Online! \nThe printed image shows our successes and our faults at a much higher level of detail than the digital image. To become better photographers\, it helps to understand this by creating the printed image as a final product. \nThis Month’s Printed Vision Session: Printing in Black & White! \nBlack & White printing is classic. It evokes in us certain emotions\, opinions\, senses\, and more. \nPrinting in black & white can also require more forethought. By planning out one’s shot in advance and seeing in black & white\, the photographer has more opportunity to edit in black & white with intent. That being said\, black & whites can also be produced by happy accidents\, too! \nThis class will focus on editing for print in black & white and touch upon what images to consider that will make strong monochrome images. \nThis Print Review topic will meet for two sessions. In the first session\, we will discuss the topic– some of the key differences between paper surfaces– and present a variety of options for you to have your image printed. In between sessions 1 and 2\, attendees will independently process 1-2 images and submit them to the instructor for printing. Educator Paul Nelson will produce a recorded image review\, discussing paper options\, editing suggestions\, and more\, to be sent back to you leading up to the second session. Paul will then print images for the class. In the end\, you will receive a print of one of your edited images up to 13×19″ in size. DESCRIPTION:Hunt’s Photo Education presents an opportunity to not only expand your creativity\, but to learn about photographers\, past and present\, in our new series “Their Lens/Your Lens”.  In these online classes\, you will have an opportunity to learn about a photographer—their background\, their time\, and their work—then create your own work based on the photographer’s style.\n\nThe layout of these sessions: We will advertise a specific topic that attendees will work on for a three month span. Attendees will NOT know the photographers prior to registering—just the general topic—which gives the attendees no preconceptions and a clean slate! We will meet in an online session for an introduction on the photographer. Then\, you will have roughly three weeks to complete work in the style of that photographer. We will then reconvene for an image review and introduction to the next photographer.\n\nSome of the best work can be created when you are given specific parameters\, working in the style of another photographer is an excellent way to not only develop your photography skills\, but also your personal style!\n\nThis Session’s Topic- The American Landscape\nThis session’s three photographers will be centered around photographing the American Landscape\, both literal\, personal and figurative.\nIn our first session\, we will have an introduction to the first photographer. SUMMARY:Online: Multi-Session Series- Mastering Manual Mode
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for our Multi-Session Series. In our Multi-Session Series\, we will meet over the course of a number of weeks\, generally at the same time each week. During that time\, we will discuss a specific element of a topic and end the session by giving a photographic assignment. That assignment will be due for completion before the next class meeting\, and we will review those images at the start of the next session. If for some reason you cannot attend one of the sessions\, don’t worry! They will be recorded and you will be able to watch them at your leisure!\nOur Multi-Session Series is designed to “keep the conversation going” by engaging with our attendees in a more personal way. In each of these classes\, we will have 10-15 attendees and provide direct feedback on images. We encourage photographers of all skill levels to consider these classes\, as they will build upon your experience and provide an excellent chance to work on your imagery! \nMastering Manual Mode\nLearning about photography can be a real challenge. There are so many pieces to the puzzle of photography\, some of which use confusing terminology. For this reason\, we often start newcomers off using the Priority Modes because it’s “easier”. In reality\, these priority modes are just a short-term solution. It’s important to fully understand the “why” and “how” of your camera settings\, and learning to master manual is an excellent way to do so. \nThis Multi-Session Series will focus on Mastering Manual Mode. In week 1\, we’ll cover the technical side of aperture\, shutter\, and ISO. We’ll also discuss metering modes\, reading your meter\, and understanding histograms. In week 2\, we’ll learn to control depth of field\, focusing\, and how lens choice affects aperture choice. By week 3\, we’ll discuss how to use shutter speed effectively to either blur your motion or freeze your action. We’ll talk about shooting at night and in low light. We’ll also talk about ISO and how it controls image noise. In week 4\, we’ll put everything together by discussing dynamic range\, white balance\, and how to get the correct exposure in camera every time. We’ll also answer the most important question of all: which change should I make to achieve my desired results? \nEach week Emily will give an assignment to help further the topics covered in that week’s class. Students are encouraged to send in assignments that will be individually critiqued by Emily each week. This is a great opportunity to enhance your exposure skills while getting direct feedback on your week. \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. We will also send a reminder email about 48 hours prior to the class time with that same information. \nLayout of the class\nThe class will begin promptly at the time listed. If for some reason you cannot attend one of the sessions\, don’t worry! They will be recorded and you will be able to watch them at your leisure! SUMMARY:Online: Special Guest Series- Hollywood Lighting in the Style of George Hurrell with Bobbi Lane
DESCRIPTION:George Hurrell was the greatest Hollywood Glamour photographer\, establishing the style in the early 30’s by photographing publicity images of the movie stars for MGM. Hurrell sculpted with light\, chiseling the subject’s features with bright highlights and deep shadows that created mystery and depth. He used large focusing fresnels (pronounced “fre-nel”)\, the same ones the movie studios still use today and photographed the major stars in Hollywood: Bogart\, Crawford (his favorite model)\,  Davis\, Deitrich\, Harlow\, “Bojangles”\, Gable\, Cooper\, Garbo\, Hepburn\, Tracy\, and more! From 1980 until 1992\, Hurrell rented Bobbi Lane’s studio in Los Angeles\, bringing in lighting along with furniture and props\, continuing to photograph the biggest stars of the day- Harrison Ford\, Arnold Schwarzenegger\, Diana Ross\, Queen\, the Talking Heads\, Liam Neeson\, Johnny Mathis\, Paul McCartney and many more. \nThis online seminar will cover Hurrell’s history and background as a painter and how he developed into a photographer. Bobbi will examine his techniques in lighting as well as his completing his concept of his subjects. Hurrell’s attention to detail was superb\, and she will show images he made during the time he photographed in Bobbi’s LA studio. \nCome learn this beautiful and fascinating style from one of the few that worked with the photographic master George Hurrell! \n  \n  \nAbout Bobbi Lane and Lee Varis \nBobbi Lane and Lee Varis\, accomplished photographers and educators with over 90 years of combined experience\, are excited to share their expertise in their workshops and presentations. Bobbi\, known as the “Mistress of Light\,” is celebrated for her creative portraiture and has been recognized by Photo District News as one of the top workshop instructors. Her passion for teaching and mastery of lighting techniques makes her a sought-after mentor. Lee\, the “Sultan of Skin\,” is a renowned photo-illustrator whose work includes iconic movie posters such as Silence of the Lambs and Star Trek. With his deep knowledge of digital imaging and creative photo illustration\, he inspires photographers to push their artistic boundaries.
