DESCRIPTION:Introduction on Printing in Black & White- Wednesday August 26th\, 6:30pm ET • Online! \nPrint Review- Wednesday September 2nd\, 6:30pm ET • Hunt’s Melrose or Online! \nThe printed image shows our successes and our faults at a much higher level of detail than the digital image. To become better photographers\, it helps to understand this by creating the printed image as a final product. \nThis Month’s Printed Vision Session: Printing in Black & White! \nBlack & White printing is classic. It evokes in us certain emotions\, opinions\, senses\, and more. \nPrinting in black & white can also require more forethought. By planning out one’s shot in advance and seeing in black & white\, the photographer has more opportunity to edit in black & white with intent. That being said\, black & whites can also be produced by happy accidents\, too! \nThis class will focus on editing for print in black & white and touch upon what images to consider that will make strong monochrome images. \nThis Print Review topic will meet for two sessions. In the first session\, we will discuss the topic– some of the key differences between paper surfaces– and present a variety of options for you to have your image printed. In between sessions 1 and 2\, attendees will independently process 1-2 images and submit them to the instructor for printing. Educator Paul Nelson will produce a recorded image review\, discussing paper options\, editing suggestions\, and more\, to be sent back to you leading up to the second session. Paul will then print images for the class. In the end\, you will receive a print of one of your edited images up to 13×19″ in size. (Please note: We are happy to make a larger or additional print outside of the class for an additional fee!) \nJoin us for an informative Printed Review class! \nA Note About The Printed Review Series \nOur Print Review Monthly is a chance to continue the print conversation over the course of many months. SUMMARY:Online: Special Guest Series- Long Exposure Photography – Between Concept and Technique with Thibault Roland
DESCRIPTION:Photography has the power to freeze time\, to capture the world and reality. In most people’s mind photography has to be truthful to reality. It has to depict a scene\, and atmosphere\, and event accurately. But photography is so much more than a simple tool to document our lives…\nIt is also a way to express ourselves\, our point of view\, to share our messages. Photography is art. Photography can be abstract and minimalist. It allows us to change what we see based on our emotions and intent.\nLong exposure is a technique that embraces this approach: it transforms reality into something else\, into a dialogue between the artist\, the subject and viewer. By stretching the time used to capture a single image\, the photographer includes movement in their art: water becomes smooth\, clouds create long silky streaks\, trees blur out in the wind… the effects are endless. Long exposure is a different mindset. One that comes from within and uses what is out there in order to produce unique and breathtaking images. Images that go beyond documenting and bridge into the Fine Arts.\nIn this technical lecture\, Thibault Roland will introduce long exposure and will discuss the equipment needed to shoot with this technique. At the end of the presentation\, you will have a checklist of the different steps to follow as well as tips and tricks that will help you take breathtaking images using this unique approach. \n  \nAbout Thibault: Born in France in 1981\, Sony Artisan of Imagery Thibault Roland is a scientist by training and fine art photographer. Thanks to his rigorous background he became a Master of techniques such as long exposure\, tilt/shift and infrared photography. He specializes in black and white architecture\, minimalism and seascapes. His fine art photographs have been shown\, published and awarded internationally and are included in public and private collections such as at the Boston Athenaeum. Previously an instructor at the New England School of Photography\, Thibault teaches workshops and gives seminars internationally.
