DESCRIPTION:Hunt’s Photo Education presents an opportunity to not only expand your creativity\, but to learn about photographers\, past and present\, in our new series “Their Lens/Your Lens”.  In these online classes\, you will have an opportunity to learn about a photographer—their background\, their time\, and their work—then create your own work based on the photographer’s style.\n\nThe layout of these sessions: We will advertise a specific topic that attendees will work on for a three month span. Attendees will NOT know the photographers prior to registering—just the general topic—which gives the attendees no preconceptions and a clean slate! We will meet in an online session for an introduction on the photographer. Then\, you will have roughly three weeks to complete work in the style of that photographer. We will then reconvene for an image review and introduction to the next photographer.\n\nSome of the best work can be created when you are given specific parameters\, working in the style of another photographer is an excellent way to not only develop your photography skills\, but also your personal style!\n\nThis Session’s Topic- Human Stories\nOur first three photographers will be centered around documentary with empathy\, with a shared theme of human stories and social context.\nIn our first session\, we will have an introduction to the first photographer. We encourage photographers of all skill levels to consider these classes\, as they will build upon your experience and provide an excellent chance to work on your imagery!\nEditing in Adobe Lightroom\nThis is a great opportunity to build up your editing skills in Lightroom!\nAdobe Lightroom is the choice program for professionals and amateurs\, with ever-growing capabilities and options. However\, there are many levels to understanding in the program. What do we do to make basic changes? Once we learn those changes\, how can we “step it up” and figure out what to we’re supposed to do? How do we make images pop? And finally\, how do we put it all together and making finishing touches to our images.\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education for this three-week course that helps answer many of these questions. What’s most important about this course is that we will give weekly editing assignments\, and we will review those edits at the start of the following week. Often\, Lightroom users struggle with the inability to determine what changes are “good” or “correct”. While those terms are subjective\, we will help you along in the editing process to see how to make determinations along the way.\nIn week one\, we’ll talk about file types and adjustment ranges using Basic Development controls. More than anything\, we will be emphasizing global changes and understanding what can be done with an image in Lightroom. In week two\, we’ll dive into Color\, Curves\, Contrast & Clarity & Texture and begin to discuss a variety of masking techniques. These changes will help make your images pop. Finally\, in week three\, we’ll discuss advanced editing\, including Sharpening\, HDR\, Pano stitching and more.\nEach week\, we will give an assignment and students will upload their edited photos prior to the next class. We encourage photographers of all skill levels to consider these classes\, as they will build upon your experience and provide an excellent chance to work on your imagery! \nMastering Manual Mode\nLearning about photography can be a real challenge. There are so many pieces to the puzzle of photography\, some of which use confusing terminology. For this reason\, we often start newcomers off using the Priority Modes because it’s “easier”. In reality\, these priority modes are just a short-term solution. It’s important to fully understand the “why” and “how” of your camera settings\, and learning to master manual is an excellent way to do so. \nThis Multi-Session Series will focus on Mastering Manual Mode. In week 1\, we’ll cover the technical side of aperture\, shutter\, and ISO. We’ll also discuss metering modes\, reading your meter\, and understanding histograms. In week 2\, we’ll learn to control depth of field\, focusing\, and how lens choice affects aperture choice. To become better photographers\, it helps to understand this by creating the printed image as a final product. \nThis Month’s Printed Vision Session: Comparing Papers! \nWhat does it look like on Matte Paper? What does it look like on Glossy Paper? Why would I print it on one versus the other? What does the paper bring to my image?\nThis Printed Vision topic will meet for two sessions. In the first session\, we will discuss the topic– some of the key differences between paper surfaces– and present a variety of options for you to have your image printed. In between sessions 1 and 2\, attendees will independently process 1-2 images and submit them to the instructor for printing. Educator Paul Nelson will produce a recorded image review\, discussing paper options\, editing suggestions\, and more\, to be sent back to you leading up to the second session. Paul will then print images for the class. In the end\, you will receive TWO prints of your edited image up to 8.5×11″ in size. It is generally recommended to print the same image on two papers. However\, there are many levels to understanding in the program. What do we do to make basic changes? Once we learn those changes\, how can we “step it up” and figure out what to we’re supposed to do? How do we make images pop? To become better photographers\, it helps to understand this by creating the printed image as a final product. \nThis Month’s Printed Vision Session: Printing Flowers! \nEveryone wants to print flowers. There is such a mass appeal of flowers for such obvious reasons\, including their impermanence and their vibrancy of color. Therefore\, it only makes sense that flowers should be printed to display that level of vibrance for a long period of time! In this session\, we will focus our energies on not only the editing process\, but choosing the right surface of paper and size of paper. Among the topics discussed matte vs. glossy papers\, the importance of textured papers\, the illusive rice papers and natural/eco-friendly papers\, printing with borders and considering creating alternative borders\, and more! We will really be digging deep to think about what we are doing\, why we’re doing it\, and what we want to do! \nThis Print Review topic will meet for two sessions. In the first session\, we will discuss the topic– some of the key differences between paper surfaces– and present a variety of options for you to have your image printed. In between sessions 1 and 2\, attendees will independently process 1-2 images and submit them to the instructor for printing. Educator Paul Nelson will produce a recorded image review\, discussing paper options\, editing suggestions\, and more\, to be sent back to you leading up to the second session. Paul will then print images for the class. In the end\, you will receive a print of one of your edited images up to 13×19″ in size. DESCRIPTION:What is Color Management? Why is it important to shoot RAW? Why (and How) do I need to calibrate my monitor? Why do images look different on different computers or devices?\nIf you want to know the answers to any of these questions\, we implore you to join us for our Intro to Color Management class\, where we will discuss the importance of all elements of color. We will discuss\, among other points:\n• A brief workflow of how to get the most accurate color\, from camera to print\n• The importance of monitor calibration\, including a live demo\n• The differences in color spaces and monitors\n• How to use the Xrite Colorchecker (and similar reference targets)\nColor management is an essential part of photography. SUMMARY:Online: Special Guest Series- Hollywood Lighting in the Style of George Hurrell with Bobbi Lane
DESCRIPTION:George Hurrell was the greatest Hollywood Glamour photographer\, establishing the style in the early 30’s by photographing publicity images of the movie stars for MGM. Hurrell sculpted with light\, chiseling the subject’s features with bright highlights and deep shadows that created mystery and depth. He used large focusing fresnels (pronounced “fre-nel”)\, the same ones the movie studios still use today and photographed the major stars in Hollywood: Bogart\, Crawford (his favorite model)\,  Davis\, Deitrich\, Harlow\, “Bojangles”\, Gable\, Cooper\, Garbo\, Hepburn\, Tracy\, and more! From 1980 until 1992\, Hurrell rented Bobbi Lane’s studio in Los Angeles\, bringing in lighting along with furniture and props\, continuing to photograph the biggest stars of the day- Harrison Ford\, Arnold Schwarzenegger\, Diana Ross\, Queen\, the Talking Heads\, Liam Neeson\, Johnny Mathis\, Paul McCartney and many more. \nThis online seminar will cover Hurrell’s history and background as a painter and how he developed into a photographer. Bobbi will examine his techniques in lighting as well as his completing his concept of his subjects. SUMMARY:Online: Multi-Session Series- Mastering Manual Mode
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for our Multi-Session Series. In our Multi-Session Series\, we will meet over the course of a number of weeks\, generally at the same time each week. During that time\, we will discuss a specific element of a topic and end the session by giving a photographic assignment. That assignment will be due for completion before the next class meeting\, and we will review those images at the start of the next session. If for some reason you cannot attend one of the sessions\, don’t worry! They will be recorded and you will be able to watch them at your leisure!\nOur Multi-Session Series is designed to “keep the conversation going” by engaging with our attendees in a more personal way. In each of these classes\, we will have 10-15 attendees and provide direct feedback on images. We encourage photographers of all skill levels to consider these classes\, as they will build upon your experience and provide an excellent chance to work on your imagery! \nMastering Manual Mode\nLearning about photography can be a real challenge. There are so many pieces to the puzzle of photography\, some of which use confusing terminology. For this reason\, we often start newcomers off using the Priority Modes because it’s “easier”. In reality\, these priority modes are just a short-term solution. It’s important to fully understand the “why” and “how” of your camera settings\, and learning to master manual is an excellent way to do so. \nThis Multi-Session Series will focus on Mastering Manual Mode. In week 1\, we’ll cover the technical side of aperture\, shutter\, and ISO. We’ll also discuss metering modes\, reading your meter\, and understanding histograms. In week 2\, we’ll learn to control depth of field\, focusing\, and how lens choice affects aperture choice. By week 3\, we’ll discuss how to use shutter speed effectively to either blur your motion or freeze your action. We’ll talk about shooting at night and in low light. We’ll also talk about ISO and how it controls image noise. In week 4\, we’ll put everything together by discussing dynamic range\, white balance\, and how to get the correct exposure in camera every time. We’ll also answer the most important question of all: which change should I make to achieve my desired results? \nEach week Emily will give an assignment to help further the topics covered in that week’s class. Students are encouraged to send in assignments that will be individually critiqued by Emily each week.
