SUMMARY:Waltham Expo Seminar: Storytelling: From Passion to Portfolio: Building Powerful Photo Projects with Purpose with Lou Jones
DESCRIPTION:This seminar is designed for working professionals\, serious amateurs\, and educators who want to transform their personal interests\, lifelong obsessions\, or creative instincts into meaningful images—and income. How to turn your personal passion for photography into gallery exhibitions\, long-term projects\, books\, and/ or large collections. Whether as a primary focus or alongside teaching and commercial assignments\, these personal projects can be documentary or expressive in nature. Over the past few years\, opportunities for funding and exposure have expanded dramatically\, and this session will explore how to identify and market your audience\, revisit existing bodies of work\, and use your two greatest assets—time and imagination—to realize your most ambitious visual goals. Most importantly\, it will provide inspiration and guidance on how to reinvent yourself in these complex and ever-changing times. \nLou Jones reflects on how he has built a successful career in an ever-changing and evolving industry. From commercial photographer to photojournalist and personal projects spanning decades. Lou will show you how he has stayed a working professional\, what mistakes to avoid\, how to create a unique personal style\, staying on the client’s radar\, marketing\, and separating yourself from the crowd. He will showcase examples from his long-term projects spanning over 30 years\, like photographing 13 Olympic games\, a traveling exhibit featuring famous jazz musicians like Miles Davis and Dizzy Gillespie\, his award-winning book Final Exposure: Portraits from Death Row\, and ongoing projects like the panAFRICAproject. \nJoin Lou as he tells stories that will both educate and entertain\, whether you are just starting out or a seasoned pro. \n\nAbout Lou Jones \nLou Jones is a Boston-based photographer whose distinguished career spans more than five decades\, evolving from high-profile commercial work to deeply personal\, long-term documentary practice. Since 1973\, he has operated a commercial studio in Boston\, collaborating with Fortune 500 companies and international clients including Nike\, Federal Express\, and KLM\, while also completing major assignments for National Geographic and Time/Life and covering 13 Olympic Games. His photography has taken him to 65 countries and 48 U.S. states and has been widely exhibited\, including at the Smithsonian and the DeCordova Museum\, and featured on the front page of The Boston Globe. His work is held in prominent public and private collections\, including Harvard University\, the Boston Athenaeum\, the Fitchburg Art Museum\, the Boston Public Library\, and the University of Texas. \nJones’s publications include Final Exposure: Portraits from Death Row (1996 & 2002)\, Travel + Photography (2006)\, panAFRICAproject\, Volume I (2020)\, and panAFRICAproject (2025)\, with a second volume of the panAFRICAproject recently released. SUMMARY:Providence Expo Seminar: Working the Landscape: Observation\, Patience\, and Creative Growth in Nature Photography with Kevin Bruff
DESCRIPTION:This presentation explores the value of returning to familiar locations and using the environment as a creative collaborator. Through seasonal studies and real-world examples from coastal Rhode Island\, photographer Kevin Bruff will share how observation\, patience\, and curiosity shape both technical skill and artistic vision. The talk will cover working in the field\, adapting to changing conditions\, and developing a personal workflow that supports long-term growth. Attendees will gain practical insights along with a deeper perspective on creating meaningful images from nature. \n\n  \nAbout Kevin Bruff: \nKevin Bruff is a Rhode Island–based landscape and nature photographer whose work focuses on the coastal environments and seasonal changes of New England. Through a process rooted in observation\, repetition\, and patience\, he explores how returning to familiar locations can deepen both technical skill and creative vision. His images often reflect a balance between structure and spontaneity\, shaped by time spent in the field across locations such as Middletown Valley\, Sachuest Point\, and Beavertail. \nIn addition to his creative work\, Kevin brings a professional background as a Systems Engineer\, where he has developed a strong foundation in analytical thinking\, process development\, and problem-solving. This technical perspective informs his photographic approach\, blending methodical planning with openness to discovery. \n  \nAn avid hiker\, Kevin spends much of his time immersed in nature\, using the landscape not just as a subject\, but as a collaborator in the creative process. He is also the founder of the Photographers Café community\, where he encourages photographers to grow through consistent practice\, shared learning\, and thoughtful exploration.

SUMMARY:Waltham Expo Seminar: Film Changed Everything with Levi Cyr-Redcross
DESCRIPTION:Film Changed Everything is a personal and inspiring lecture about the creative transformation that happens when you slow down and shoot with intention. Levi Cyr-Redcross shares their journey with film photography—the early missteps\, the quiet moments behind the lens\, and how analog tools helped them reconnect with their voice as an artist. \nThis talk isn’t about technical settings—it’s about process\, permission\, and the quiet magic of making art that feels honest. It’s a reflection on imperfection\, curiosity\, and the creative freedom that can only come from letting go of perfection. \nFilm didn’t just reconnect Levi with their creative self—it also connected them to a greater community. What began as a solo practice became a shared experience: trading rolls\, swapping scans\, meeting artists\, and forging relationships rooted in slowness\, intention\, and analog joy. Film photography created a space for Levi to connect more deeply—with their work\, with others\, and with the world around them. \nWhether you’re a digital artist looking for a reset\, a creative stuck in a rut\, or someone simply curious about the power of film\, this lecture is an invitation to see photography—and creative expression itself—in a new light. \n\nAbout Levi:\nLevi Cyr-Redcross is a content creator and photographer that takes pictures in the Boston area. You can find more about him on all the socials- Instagram • TikTok • YouTube

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Workshop: Infrared AND Long Exposure Photography with Thibault Roland
DESCRIPTION:Please note: We have slightly altered the scope of this workshop to include BOTH Infrared and Long Exposure Photography. If you are interested in either topic\, this workshop will be suitable for you! For more info on the Long Exposure element of the workshop\, click here. \nInfrared (IR) photography is a technique that allows us to discover the world we live in under a different light\, literally. It modifies tonalities and contrasts in an image. It captures unique looking images where foliage and other forms of vegetation turn white. \nInfrared is a different approach\, one that steps away from depicting reality and allows the photographer to create their own world. \nThis workshop along the Charles River is appropriate whether you own an IR converted camera or an IR filter. \nThe goal of this workshop is to demystify infrared photography and to teach you how to create unique-looking and striking images. \nIf you own neutral density filters\, it is recommended for you to bring them as we might even mix both IR and long exposure techniques into one! \nWhat’s Included? \n• Online Introduction to Long Exposure and Infrared Techniques\, presented on Wednesday April 17th\, 7pm EDT \n• In-Person Workshop\, Sunday April 21st\, 10am-2pm \n• Online Editing with Thibault/Image Review\, Sunday May 5th\, 7pm EDT \nSony Sponsored \nThis workshop is sponsored by Sony. As such\, we will have Sony cameras and lenses available for use! Interested in trying a particular Sony product? Just let us know! \nWeather Contingency \nBecause Thibault will be traveling from the West Coast for this workshop\, we will be doing our best to hold this event. This may alter our meeting location or slightly alter the time\, depending on the weather. We will send you any updates leading up to the event! \nAbout Thibault: Born in France in 1981\, Sony Artisan of Imagery Thibault Roland is a scientist by training and fine art photographer. Thanks to his rigorous background he became a Master of techniques such as long exposure\, tilt/shift and infrared photography. He specializes in black and white architecture\, minimalism and seascapes. His fine art photographs have been shown\, published and awarded internationally and are included in public and private collections such as at the Boston Athenaeum. Previously an instructor at the New England School of Photography\, Thibault teaches workshops and gives seminars internationally. Thibault currently lives in Portland\, OR.\nYou can find more information and see Thibault’s work at thibaultroland.com/

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Workshop: Long Exposure Photography with Thibault Roland
DESCRIPTION:Photography has the power to freeze time\, to capture the world and reality. In most people’s mind photography has to be truthful to reality. It has to depict a scene\, and atmosphere\, and event accurately. But photography is so much more than a simple tool to document our lives… \nIt is also a way to express ourselves\, our point of view\, to share our messages. Photography is art. Photography can be abstract and minimalistic. It allows us to change what we see based on our emotions and intent. \nLong exposure is a technique that embraces this approach: it transforms reality into something else\, into a dialogue between the artist\, the subject and viewer. By stretching the time used to capture a single image\, the photographer includes movement in their art: water becomes smooth\, clouds create long silky streaks\, trees blur out in the wind… the effects are endless. \nFor this hands-on workshop\, we will meet at our Hunt’s Photo Boston location in the Back Bay\, make our way towards the Charles River\, and after that the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. You will use these subjects to create unique-looking images and learn the fascinating technique of long exposure. Don’t miss this chance to refine your skills and explore new photographic perspectives! \nWhat’s Included? \n• Online Introduction to Long Exposure and Infrared Techniques\, presented on Wednesday April 17th\, 7pm EDT \n• In-Person Workshop\, Saturday April 20th\, 10am-2pm \n• Online Editing with Thibault/Image Review\, Sunday May 5th\, 7pm EDT \nSony Sponsored \nThis workshop is sponsored by Sony. As such\, we will have Sony cameras and lenses available for use! Interested in trying a particular Sony product? SUMMARY:Online: Special Guest Series- Fine Art Photography: Long Exposures and Infrared with Thibault Roland
DESCRIPTION:For most of us\, photography is inherently technical. We strive to obtain the most recent and superior gear\, sometimes just so we can play with new toys. \nThere is nothing wrong with that\, but photography goes beyond the equipment we use\, and it can be hard at times not to lose focus that we are creatives first and foremost. \nWith this approach in mind\, Sony Artisan of Imagery Thibault Roland will use his own work to introduce the concepts behind some of his signature techniques such as long exposure\, infrared and tilt/shift photography. He will discuss how they can be used in order to create unique looking images and effects\, and how a change in perspective with respect to equipment can drastically improve your own photographic work. \nFine Art Weekend at Hunt’s Photo with Thibault Roland\nThis online class is a lead-in to our Fine Art Weekend with Thibault Roland\, featuring an afternoon of photographing long exposures (April 20) and an afternoon of photographing infrared (April 21). If you register for either of those events\, entry to this online class is included! \nAbout Thibault: Born in France in 1981\, Sony Artisan of Imagery Thibault Roland is a scientist by training and fine art photographer.
