SUMMARY:Online: Special Guest Series- Pixels in Your Pocket: Creative Mobile Photography with Charles & Melissa Needle (Part 2)
DESCRIPTION:This is a two-part online class. The first session was on March 5th & the second session is on March 31st (please note the change in date)\, 7-8:30pm EST. If you sign up\, you will receive the recording from session 1 and the link to session 2! \nJoin Charles and Melissa for this 2-part online class as they walk you through how to capture\, create\, and edit images surrounding you in everyday life using nothing more than the camera that’s always with you: your smartphone! \nThis is a 2-Part Class! During the first session\, Charles and Melissa will discuss elements of shooting with your smartphone and in the second session\, they will discuss creative editing! \nIn part one\, Charles and Melissa will demonstrate how you can go beyond “point and shoot” with your phone\, including how to get the most from your native camera with all of its hidden features\, as well as a review of helpful accessories. The duo will then take a deep dive and discuss key shooting apps in a “live” demonstration format with their phones projected on the computer screen. Some of the key shooting apps they will discuss and demonstrate include: Halide Mark II – Pro Camera (Lux Optics\, Inc.)\, Average Camera Pro (Dominik Seibold) and Slow Shutter Cam (Cogitap Software). \nIn the second session\, they will focus on creative editing\, giving you the tools to unleash your creativity and transform average\, “not-quite-there” images into expressive\, painterly masterpieces. In this session\, Charles and Melissa will discuss several creative editing apps\, such as Prisma (Prisma Labs\, Inc.)\, Artista Impresso (JixiPix Software)\, Color Splash (Pocket Pixels\, Inc.)\, Waterlogue (Tinrocket\, LLC) and a few others.  Then\, using the same “live demo” format as Part 1\, they will demonstrate Image Blender (JHND i Sverige AB)\, Prisma\, Artista Impresso and Snapseed (Google)’s “Double Exposure” tool. \nYou’ll come away from these jam-packed sessions with new knowledge that will empower you to make images you never imagined possible with your smartphone! \n*Note: Android users are welcome with the understanding that Charles and Melissa use and will demonstrate various apps and camera features using an iPhone. Many apps and techniques work on both iPhones and Androids\, and the instructors will highlight similar Android apps when possible. \n  \n  \nAbout Melissa and Charles \nCharles and Melissa Needle are award-winning\, husband-and-wife\, Colorado-based fine art photographers with 35 years of combined teaching experience. They are sought-after speakers\, having presented many in-person and online workshops and conference programs for national and international audiences\, including the Royal Photographic Society (UK) and hundreds of camera clubs. \nCharles has led photography workshops and tours in the US\, Canada and Europe for the past 25 years\, including locations such as Monet’s Garden (Giverny\, France)\, Keukenhof Gardens (Netherlands)\, The Butchart Gardens (Canada)\, and private & public gardens in the UK… many with exclusive\, private access. In 2011\, Charles was selected as a finalist\, among 15\,000 entries worldwide\, in the International Garden Photographer of the Year photography contest\, sponsored by The Royal Botanic Gardens\, Kew (London\, England). This exhibition traveled throughout the United Kingdom. \nMelissa has assisted Charles in workshops\, classes and online teaching sessions since 2016. She enjoys literal image making but really loves exploring her creative side with various post-processing methods. She is a full-time professional photographer whose journey began at the age of 12 with the family camera. Her career has blossomed into a passion she enjoys\, having presented at numerous camera clubs and conferences\, including the New England Council of Camera Clubs (NECCC) annual conference in 2018\, the New Hampshire Audubon Society and several online events. \nMelissa has received numerous awards and honors over the past 33 years. Some of her notable awards include: Gold Key and Blue Ribbon awards for “Postcard Dreams” from The Boston Globe Art Show\, cover features in Cape Cod Guide magazine\, MUSC Humanitas\, Neuroscience\, and Cancer Research\, blue ribbons in the Greater Lynn Photography Association (MA) camera club monthly contests\, and recognition in the Mobile Photography Awards Contest and NANPA Showcase Competition\, where she won a prestigious Top-24 Image Award in 2020. In addition\, Melissa’s work was selected to appear in three books: Charleston: A Photographic Portrait\, Savannah: A Photographic Portrait\, and Massachusetts: A Photographic Portrait. While many photographers are teaching natural or constant light in this area\, Paula shows how and why studio lighting is her way to go. \nYou’ll also learn how to prepare for a shoot\, including client consultation\, props and light set ups. Explore techniques to help throughout the session such as soothing and safety tips\, posing for both family and baby\, how to put everyone at ease\, as well as lenses and lighting methods that work easily and beautifully for new baby sessions. \nTake advantage of Paula’s expertise and experience to learn more about newborns and how to photograph them beautifully\, using studio light properly. \n  \nAbout Paula: \nPaula Swift\, M.Photog\, Cr.\, CPP started her portrait photography business in Framingham\, MA in 2004 and then moved into a new studio in Sudbury\, MA in December 2013. Paula is the recent Past President of the Professional Photographers Assocation of Masschusetts – PPAM (2021-2023)\, a PPA Councilor and PPA Approved Juror. \nPaula was a staff photographer at the Worcester Telegram & Gazette in Worcester\, Mass from 1995-2005. Three of Paula’s images were part of a Pulitzer nomination and finalist entry in 2000 in feature photography for the photography staff’s coverage of the deadly Worcester warehouse fire that took the lives of six firefighters in 1999. Her photography has appeared in the Boston Globe\, New York Times\, LA Times\, Esquire\, People\, Time\, Newsweek and internationally via the Associated Press wire service \nHer portrait photography has won her two Kodak Gallery Awards\, a Hallmark Award\, Photographic Degree of Excellence by PPAM\, Loan and General Collections at IPC. ­­ In 2024\, \, Paula was recognized as Platinum Medalist\,  a Silver Medalist in 2022  and in 2014\, 2018\, 2019\, 2020 a Bronze Medalist for her photography at the Professional Photographers of America International Photographic Competition. \nIn May 2017\, Paula’s book Storytelling Portrait Photography: How to Document the Lives of Children and Families published. The book offers ideas for creating a strong and lasting client connection\, eliciting memorable moments\, finding storytelling locations\, inspiring natural action and reactions\, and capturing the inter-relationships between siblings and between children and their parents. \nPaula was born in Newport News\, Virgina and grew up Longmeadow\, Mass where she first learned to develop film in her parents’ basement with her big sister Gina who is a LA Times photographer.  She attended Fitchburg State University where she received her Bachelors of Science in Communications Media – Photography in 1995. Paula lives in Framingham\, Mass. with her husband Chris and their three sons. \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:This is a great opportunity to build up your editing skills in Lightroom!\nAdobe Lightroom is the choice program for professionals and amateurs\, with ever-growing capabilities and options. However\, there are many levels to understanding in the program. How do we organize our photos? What do we do to make basic changes? Once we learn those changes\, how can we ?step it up? and figure out what to we?re supposed to do? How do we make images pop? And finally\, how do we put it all together and making finishing touches to our images.\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education for a course that helps answer many of these questions. Often\, Lightroom users struggle with the inability to determine what changes are ?good? or ?correct?. While those terms are subjective\, we will help you along in the editing process to see how to make determinations along the way.\nThis is a Multi-Session Class! In Week 1\, we will begin by discussing how to organize your images for quick retrieval via keywords\, ratings\, and more\, as well as giving a description on how to consider organizing your photos on your computer. Specifically\, we will cover brief computer file management\, the importance of keywords\, flagging and rating photos\, and searching metadata to find images. In Week 2\, we?ll start with the basic adjustments using Basic Development controls. More than anything\, we will be emphasizing global changes and understanding what can be done with an image in Lightroom. We?ll then dive into Color\, Curves\, Contrast & Clarity & Texture. These changes will help make your images pop. In Week 3\, we?ll discuss advanced editing\, including local adjustments\, such as radial and graduated filters\, and how to ?finish? the image- sharpening\, noise reduction\, and more.\nIn-between each session\, we will give assignments to help you become more proficient and grasp the material! This class is strongly recommended for anyone looking to further their skills with Lightroom!\nAn important note about this course! There are now a few different versions of Adobe Lightroom right now. This course is specifically on Adobe Lightroom Classic. The other version of Lightroom\, commonly known as ?Adobe Lightroom CC? (yes\, we understand you may be confused by this) is a more mobile and cloud-based program. The look and feel of the program is completely different? Join Hunt’s Photo Education for a 6-session photography program aimed at strengthening their interest\, improving their photography\, and getting them truly excited about being the artist\, the creator\, and the family photographer! \nOver the course of six sessions\, we will cover a wide range of topics\, from composition & perspective to depth of field & movement. In every session we’ll have a brief introduction to a topic followed by a fun practical exercise. Our goal is to get your photographers taking pictures as much as possible! At the end of each session\, we’ll give an assignment for the following week\, and at the start of the next session\, we’ll look back on the images to see what we liked about them. \nOur goal in this program is to have a lot of fun and not bog students down with too much technical stuff. However\, we will also scaffold instruction\, so if an attendee wants to know more about the technical aspects\, they still can! Please note: This course is geared towards students aged 12-16 years old. Our age requirement is general and a certain maturity level is helpful.  Younger students with interest and a level of responsibility are welcome to attend. \nStudents will be required to have some kind of camera. They will be recorded and you will be able to watch them at your leisure!\nOur Multi-Session Series is designed to “keep the conversation going” by engaging with our attendees in a more personal way. In each of these classes\, we will have 10-15 attendees and provide direct feedback on images. We encourage photographers of all skill levels to consider these classes\, as they will build upon your experience and provide an excellent chance to work on your imagery!\nMastering Manual Mode\nLearning about photography can be a real challenge. There are so many pieces to the puzzle of photography\, some of which use confusing terminology. For this reason\, we often start newcomers off using the Priority Modes because it’s “easier”. In reality\, these priority modes are just a short-term solution. It’s important to fully understand the “why” and “how” of your camera settings\, and learning to master manual is an excellent way to do so.\nThis Multi-Session Series will focus on Mastering Manual Mode. In week 1\, we?ll cover the technical side of aperture\, shutter\, and ISO. We?ll also discuss metering modes\, reading your meter\, and understanding histograms. In week 2\, we?ll learn to control depth of field\, focusing\, and how lens choice affects aperture choice. By week 3\, we?ll discuss how to use shutter speed effectively to either blur your motion or freeze your action. We?ll talk about shooting at night and in low light. We?ll also talk about ISO and how it controls image noise. In week 4\, we?ll put everything together by discussing dynamic range\, white balance\, and how to get the correct exposure in camera every time. We?ll also answer the most important question of all: which change should I make to achieve my desired results?\nEach week Emily will give an assignment to help further the topics covered in that week?s class. Students are encouraged to send in assignments that will be individually critiqued by Emily each week. This is a great opportunity to enhance your exposure skills while getting direct feedback on your week.\nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. However\, there are many levels to understanding in the program. How do we organize our photos? What do we do to make basic changes? And finally\, how do we put it all together and making finishing touches to our images.\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education for a course that helps answer many of these questions. Often\, Lightroom users struggle with the inability to determine what changes are ?good? or ?correct?. While those terms are subjective\, we will help you along in the editing process to see how to make determinations along the way.\nThis is a Multi-Session Class! In Week 1\, we will begin by discussing how to organize your images for quick retrieval via keywords\, ratings\, and more\, as well as giving a description on how to consider organizing your photos on your computer. There are now a few different versions of Adobe Lightroom right now. This course is specifically on Adobe Lightroom Classic. The other version of Lightroom\, commonly known as ?Adobe Lightroom CC? (yes\, we understand you may be confused by this) is a more mobile and cloud-based program. The look and feel of the program is completely different? Join Hunt’s Photo Education for a 6-session photography program aimed at strengthening their interest\, improving their photography\, and getting them truly excited about being the artist\, the creator\, and the family photographer! \nOver the course of six sessions\, we will cover a wide range of topics\, from composition & perspective to depth of field & movement. In every session we’ll have a brief introduction to a topic followed by a fun practical exercise. Our goal is to get your photographers taking pictures as much as possible! At the end of each session\, we’ll give an assignment for the following week\, and at the start of the next session\, we’ll look back on the images to see what we liked about them. \nOur goal in this program is to have a lot of fun and not bog students down with too much technical stuff. However\, we will also scaffold instruction\, so if an attendee wants to know more about the technical aspects\, they still can! Please note: This course is geared towards students aged 12-16 years old. Our age requirement is general and a certain maturity level is helpful.  Younger students with interest and a level of responsibility are welcome to attend. \nStudents will be required to have some kind of camera. DESCRIPTION:Join the dynamic duo of Bobbi Lane and Lee Varis to explore the world of Hollywood glamour\, and learn the photographic style of George Hurrell. Bobbi & Lee will teach you how to achieve the look of the classic Hollywood glamour images of the 1930’s & 40’s using modern lighting tools and digital retouching techniques. Hurrell spent the last 12 years of his life shooting in Bobbi’s studio\, during which he experienced a revival of popularity for his classic style.  \nIn this workshop\, you will be learning from her first-hand experience Hurrell’s creative approach to lighting\, styling\, and posing! Hurrell “sculpted’ his subjects with large Tungsten movie lights. In today’s world\, we will use LED lights (courtesy of Nanlite) with Fresnel (pronounced “fre-nel”) and Barn Door attachments. \nThis is a fascinating and dynamic workshop with models dressed and styled in Hollywood fashion. I was really impressed with the whole experience. Great instructors!!?\n?Everything was condensed and taught at a basic level which helped with the confusion I had before coming to class. Bottom Line: Great class for confused beginners.?\n?Everything about this class was excellent. The instructors were patient and took time to answer every question thoroughly and we were given ample time to try out the techniques we were being shown. All in all\, a wonderful experience.?\n?Very much liked the instructors- knowledgeable\, entertaining\, encouraging\, not judgmental. Loved the casual nature of the class and opportunity for one-on-one discussions. Excellent for me\, as a novice.?

SUMMARY:Online: The Printed Vision- Printing on Rice Paper!
DESCRIPTION:The printed image shows our successes and our faults at a much higher level of detail than the digital image. To become better photographers\, it helps to understand this by creating the printed image as a final product. \nThis Month’s Printed Vision Session: Printing on Rice Paper! \nRice paper is a style of paper that is delicate\, unique\, and tells a story! This is a fabulous style of paper that is underutilized in the printing world but can ultimately produce stellar and very different images! \nLeading up to the date of the session\, you’ll receive a pre-recorded video that discusses\, among other things\, considerations what images to choose to print on Rice Paper\, how to best edit your images\, paper selection\, and other important elements of making a print on Rice Paper.  Attendees will independently process 1-2 images and upload them to the instructor for review. The instructor will send back a video image review discussing what you did and how to improve your edits for print. The instructor will then print images on two papers for comparison. You may choose to have the same image printed twice (recommended) or two separate images. Due to size restrictions of rice paper\, we will be limiting the size of these prints to no larger than 8.5 x 11\, although we are happy to make a larger print outside of the class for an additional fee. \nJoin us for this unique Printed Vision class! \nA Note About The Printed Vision Series \nOur Print Review Monthly is a chance to continue the print conversation over the course of many months. For this class\, you can either choose a single session OR sign up for three months at a discounted rate.  You do not need to attend 3 consecutive sessions and may attend whenever it’s convenient. Choosing this option is excellent to keep the printing conversation going! However\, please note that the sessions expire after one year. These sessions are excellent for anyone: \n• Someone that wants a little help with editing before they get a print \n• Someone that does print but has print-related questions \n• A person that prints often and wants to try a different paper \n• Someone with no knowledge of printing that just wants to get a print! \n  \nCome check out why printing is the best thing to do for your photography! \n  \nIn-Person or Online \nThis class will be taking place in-person in our Melrose store location and online\, in case you cannot attend live. If you cannot attend live\, your print can either be mailed to you or picked up at one of our Hunt’s Photo store locations.
