We’ll explore how creative choices influence mood\, energy\, and emotion—helping you capture not just what a subject looks like\, but what it feels like. \nIn Intermediate Photography – Getting the Look\, we’ll go beyond exposure and focus on crafting photographs with intention. Through hands-on exercises\, we’ll explore how to use color theory\, light and shadow\, and compositional techniques to enhance storytelling and create photographs with mood and impact. By the end of the class\, you’ll feel more confident in making creative choices that give your images their own distinct look and feel. \nTaking our Beginner Photography OR Digital Photo Basics 1 and 2 classes (or equivalent experience) is recommended prior to this course.

Join Hunt’s Photo Education for a 6-session photography program aimed at strengthening their interest\, improving their photography\, and getting them truly excited about being the artist\, the creator\, and the family photographer! \nOver the course of six sessions\, we will cover a wide range of topics\, from composition & perspective to depth of field & movement. In every session we’ll have a brief introduction to a topic followed by a fun practical exercise. Our goal is to get your photographers taking pictures as much as possible! At the end of each session\, we’ll give an assignment for the following week\, and at the start of the next session\, we’ll look back on the images to see what we liked about them. \nOur goal in this program is to have a lot of fun and not bog students down with too much technical stuff. However\, we will also scaffold instruction\, so if an attendee wants to know more about the technical aspects\, they still can! Please note: This course is geared towards students aged 11-16 years old. Our age requirement is general and a certain maturity level is helpful.  Younger students with interest and a level of responsibility are welcome to attend. \nStudents will be required to have some kind of camera. DESCRIPTION:In a continuation of our Digital Photography Basics 1 class\, this course continues by discussing more very important elements\, including how to get better results with focusing\, depth of field\, photographing in RAW vs JPEG and more! This course offers an excellent opportunity to continue learning about the many elements of Digital Photography! \nJoin us as we continue learning about Digital Photography! \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. We will also send a reminder email about 48 hours prior to the class time with that same information. \nLayout of the class\nThe class will begin promptly at the time listed. The majority of the class–roughly 1 hour– will be a presentation on the topic\, followed by a short Q&A. During the class\, you are welcome to type in questions in the Chat box if you have specific questions as they are asked. We will do our best to answer those questions\, but if not\, feel free to ask them at the end. \n“You Are Being Recorded” (And Other Note Related Items)\nWe will be recording this class! SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Adventure: Photographing the Wiscasset\, Waterville\, and Farmington Steam Railway
DESCRIPTION:In Alna\, Maine\, a group of highly motivated and skilled volunteers has worked tirelessly to resurrect what was once a fully-functioning Narrow Gauge Railroad that once served parts of coastal and central Maine. Their work is a labor of love. On the campus of the railroad\, 97 Cross Road\, Alna\, Maine 04535\, several buildings are used for construction\, maintenance\, painting\, engineering\, and labor necessary to renovate\, build\, and maintain steam engines\, railroad cars\, track\, and other necessary components. The undertaking is immense\, impressive\, and fascinating.  \nEverything about the location\, the trains\, the many details\, and the people who volunteer their skills to make the WW&F run makes for outstanding photographic opportunities. During the weekend of April 24 and 25\, the railway will be closed to the public as they do “spring cleaning” to prepare the railroad for the season opening. We will have unprecedented access to the campus\, the buildings\, and the volunteers for two full days of photography. The goal is an immersive\, documentary style of storytelling as individuals and as a group. This is a unique and fantastic opportunity. \nAfter the workshop\, anyone that attends (along with anyone that has attended a previous Midcoast/WW&F Adventure) will have the opportunity to sign up for a separate class on developing and creating a book and gallery prints based around the WW&F. This project is geared toward getting attendees more comfortable with the full process\, including culling\, editing\, processing for print\, and developing cohesive projects! (More details to come…) \n  \nGeneral Schedule: \nApril 24 – \nArrive WW&F Railroad at 10 am. \nBring a Lunch\, snacks\, drinks with you. SUMMARY:Developing Color Film- Hunt's Photo Waltham
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education as we discuss all the key elements of loading and developing film\, and get you to develop a roll on your own! In this workshop\, we will show you how to load film into a developing tank\, discuss the elements of the chemistry involved\, and other various aspects. Because of the many variables\, we will only be using one specific type of developer\, but we will discuss the possibilities of other developers available and their advantages. \nPlease note: This class caters to color/C-41 type film developing only! We will also have a black and white film developing class. All film classes can be found here. \nWe will provide tanks\, reels\, chemistry\, and basically anything that you need to develop your film. All you will need to have is a roll of film to develop. \nWe will also include a free scan of your film after it has been processed! Since your film will be wet at the end of the session\, you will leave it to dry so it can be scanned. The digital scans will be sent directly to your email address. If you would like the negatives to be shipped to another store for pickup\, we can gladly do that!

SUMMARY:Hunt's Star Wars Cosplay Workshop: Episode VI- Photography of the Jedi (Hunt's Photo\, Melrose)
DESCRIPTION:Fear is the path to the dark side\, but good lighting and a fun photo shoot are the paths to successful images! Join Star Wars fanboy (and photography instructor) Paul Nelson and Hunt’s Photo Lead Educator Emily Hojnowski as we photograph Star Wars cosplayers for this fun and unique photo workshop. \nWe will start with a brief introduction on how to position lights to create mood and a “cinematic look”. We will then dive in to photograph our cosplayers with the emphasis on creating a dramatic look utilizing two sections of our Hunt’s Photo Melrose store. We’ll discuss how to light and what to use\, create shadows and textures\, work with models and more!\nIn this workshop\, we will cover:\n• How to compose the lighting in a scene- in this workshop we will specifically be using LED for simplicity\n• Creating dynamic shadows and effects in your work with lighting\, as well as other light modification\n• How to work with (posing and directing) models to achieve a desired look\n• Developing a creative concept in portraits\, not only using lighting and posing\, but also costumes (and if applicable\, hair and make-up) \nIf weather allows\, we will spend the last hour outside to mix natural and artificial light to create a different look in our portraits. \nYou do not need to own a flash or lighting to attend this workshop. Photographers of all skill levels are encouraged to attend. Join us for this unique and fun workshop!

To learn how to do that\, check out our Lightroom File Management courses. \nThis is a great opportunity to build up your editing skills in Lightroom!\nAdobe Lightroom is the choice program for professionals and amateurs\, with ever-growing capabilities and options. However\, there are many levels to understanding in the program. What do we do to make basic changes? Once we learn those changes\, how can we “step it up” and figure out what to we’re supposed to do? How do we make images pop? And finally\, how do we put it all together and making finishing touches to our images.\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education for a course that helps answer many of these questions. Often\, Lightroom users struggle with the inability to determine what changes are “good” or “correct”. While those terms are subjective\, we will help you along in the editing process to see how to make determinations along the way.\nThis is a Multi-Session Class! In Week 1\, we’ll start with the basic adjustments using Basic Development controls. More than anything\, we will be emphasizing global changes and understanding what can be done with an image in Lightroom. We’ll then dive into Color\, Curves\, Contrast & Clarity & Texture. During that time\, we will discuss a specific element of a topic and end the session by giving a photographic assignment. That assignment will be due for completion before the next class meeting\, and we will review those images at the start of the next session. They will be recorded and you will be able to watch them at your leisure!\nOur Multi-Session Series is designed to “keep the conversation going” by engaging with our attendees in a more personal way. We encourage photographers of all skill levels to consider these classes\, as they will build upon your experience and provide an excellent chance to work on your imagery!\nLandscape Photography\nLandscape photography is one of the most easily accessible genres of photography and is enjoyed by many. What does it take to create a landscape image that stands out? Join Hunt’s Photo Education as we go beyond “F8 and be there” and dive deep into the technical\, artistic\, and practical aspects of landscape photography.\nIn week one\, we’ll cover what it takes to plan and the settings necessary for your best shots. We’ll also talk about the gear all landscape photographers should have in their bags and what to do when the weather just won’t cooperate. In week two\, we’ll edit landscape images from start to finish using Adobe Lightroom Classic. By week three\, we’ll discuss composition\, dynamic range\, depth of field\, and focus. We’ll also discuss when to shoot in color and when to shoot in black and white. In our last week\, we’ll cover shooting and editing HDR images and panorama images in Adobe Lightroom Classic. We’ll also cover shooting landscapes at night as well as astrolandscapes. Each week\, Emily will give an assignment to hone your new skills and each student will receive individualized critiques. DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for a photo walk at Piers Park in East Boston. During the walk\, we will discuss shooting in lower light with an emphasis on night photography. This will include assistance with exposure\, composition\, focusing\, use of tripods\, and a myriad of other settings and concepts!\nMuch of East Boston consists of dense residential neighborhoods\, in part as a carryover from the area’s heavy influx of immigration at the turn of the previous century\, and in part to its proximity to downtown Boston. Piers Park was developed in the mid-1990s as a contrast to this\, offering beautiful landscaping\, natural vegetation\, and stunning views of downtown Boston. On this walk\, we will photograph the grounds of Piers Park and the skyline during blue hour\, sunset\, and civil twilight. Photographers of all levels are welcome!

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Walk: A Day in Shelburne Falls and the Bridge of Flowers
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for a walk around Shelburne Falls\, Massachusetts and the picturesque “Bridge of Flowers”.\nShelburne Falls was once a great fishing area for Native Americans\, but progressed into a manufacturing town. This area has a nice view and allows for interesting shots of the falls. The old trolley bridge was converted into a walkway and managed by the women of the town. They planted flowers and shrubs to create a more pleasing atmosphere. Today\, thousands of visitors come to view this area and photograph the flowers.\nAlthough the falls setting is more of a landscape viewing\, the bridge of flowers poses an excellent opportunity for macro lovers. We will divide our time on this walk between macro/close-up photography on and around the bridge and landscape/longer exposure photography around the falls . This will be an excellent opportunity to utilize both macro lenses and neutral density filters.

DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for sunset walk at Ft. Williams Park and Portland Head Light. Initially developed under the orders of George Washington in 1787\, Portland Head Light in Cape Elizabeth is an easily recognizable lighthouse on the shores of Maine\, now on the National Registry of Historical Places.  As with many lighthouses along the shores of the Atlantic\, Portland Head Light is a picturesque location and a must-see for photographers of all levels. \nOn the walk\, we will work on landscapes\, long exposures\, HDR\, and focus bracketing.  We will also use filters to enhance our scene as the sun sets. Bring a tripod\, shutter release\, and filters if you have them!

Join Hunt’s Photo Education as we go beyond “F8 and be there” and dive deep into the technical\, artistic\, and practical aspects of landscape photography.\nIn week one\, we’ll cover what it takes to plan and the settings necessary for your best shots. We’ll also talk about the gear all landscape photographers should have in their bags and what to do when the weather just won’t cooperate. In week two\, we’ll edit landscape images from start to finish using Adobe Lightroom Classic. By week three\, we’ll discuss composition\, dynamic range\, depth of field\, and focus. We’ll also discuss when to shoot in color and when to shoot in black and white. In our last week\, we’ll cover shooting and editing HDR images and panorama images in Adobe Lightroom Classic. We’ll also cover shooting landscapes at night as well as astrolandscapes. Each week\, Emily will give an assignment to hone your new skills and each student will receive individualized critiques. SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Workshop: Steam Punk in Waltham!
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for a walk where we will work specifically on environmental portraiture in a street photography setting with the most outrageous (and awesome) subjects- Steampunk! \nFounded in 2011\, the Waltham Steampunk Festival is the oldest outdoor Steampunk Festival in the country. Steampunk is an aesthetic and fashion that often mixes old-fashioned design (ex. Victorian/19th century era) with futuristic technology\, or at least futuristic from the design’s standpoint. Colorful personalities\, eccentric clothing\, boisterous jewelry\, and clever gadgetry are just some of the elements to expect from this fun day! During the annual festival\, attendees and vendors gather to show off their unique outfits and inventions.  It is a spectacular event for photographers to experience and photograph. \nOn this walk\, we will photograph at the festival for the majority of the day\, meeting at 11:30am until the end of the festival at 4pm. (If you cannot attend for the entirety\, that’s OK\, but we will be in attendance for the day!) We will work on storytelling\, environmental portraits\, and more! \nAs a final note\, please consider that this event is a rain or shine event\, so we will (hopefully) be attending\, rain or shine. \nJoin us for this unique and special photo walk!

DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for our Multi-Session Series. In our Multi-Session Series\, we will meet over the course of a number of weeks\, generally at the same time each week.
