SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Nifty Fifty Workshop: Olde Sturbridge Village
DESCRIPTION:Workshop: Saturday\, August 13th\, 9:30am-4pm ? Sturbridge\, MA ??Image Review: Sunday\, August 21st\, 7-9pm ? Online!\nAbout the Nifty Fifty Workshops\nEvery photographer at one point or another has the internal struggle before going to photograph: What lenses should I bring with me today? The common answer is as many as I can without being too uncomfortable. And so we pack up our wide\, standard\, telephoto\, prime\, and macro lenses and head out into the field\, forcing ourselves to endure limitless choices while sacrificing simplicity.\nOur Nifty Fifty workshops flip the script and force you to only carry one lens: A 50mm lens\, nostalgically referred to as a ?nifty fifty?. With limitations\, what can you? the photographer\, the creator\, the artist? achieve?\nThese workshops will start with our basic photo walk\, where we will meet in the field and work with only a 50mm lens in a specific location. Attendees will then submit a handful of images for an online image review\, to be held a few days later. During that image review\, we will be able to see others? work\, discuss how to achieve different effects\, and consider editing choices. This is an excellent workshop for all photographers?from Beginner to Advanced?because it forces you to work in a different way.\nWorkshop Description\nLocated an hour west of Boston\, Sturbridge Village is a proud replication of an 18th century New England town. Sturbridge Village is a living history museum that features many authentic period buildings and homes to explore and enjoy. The village is also inhabited by re-enactors who provide colorful insight to life in New England during the 18th century. Sturbridge Village is a wonderful destination for a multitude of photographic opportunities as well as a glimpse into a bygone era.\nOlde Sturbridge Village is perhaps one of the best places to have both a Photo Walk and a class. There’s a little bit of everything at this living history museum\, from macro and closeup with fine details to architecture\, from portraits to landscapes. On this workshop\, we will photograph both indoors and outdoors\, in regular light as well as very low light. We will focus our energies and use only a 50mm lens to create our photographs\, which will be both limiting and expressive!\nAfter the workshop\, attendees will have the opportunity to review their images and make some edits. We will then reconvene online with an image review where we will discuss many of the factors that we discussed on the walk portion of the workshop. This workshop is an excellent opportunity to hone in on and develop your photography skills.\nJoin us for a great experience!\n*Question: Are other prime lenses acceptable? Olympus/Panasonic users may use a 25mm lens\, since it gives the same look as a 50mm and other primes can be used as an alternative\, but we ask that you try to keep it at one prime in as close to that range as possible. Remember- this is a ?nifty fifty? workshop\, not a ?mighty ninety? workshop. (And does that even really rhyme?)

SUMMARY:Online: The Printed Vision- Comparing Paper Surfaces
DESCRIPTION:Presentation: Thursday August 11th\, 7-8pm ? Online! \nPrinted Image Review: Thursday August 25th\, 6-8pm ? In our Hunt’s Melrose store or Online! \nAbout The Printed Vision Series\nThe printed image shows our successes and our faults at a much higher level of detail than the digital image. To become better photographers\, it helps to understand this by creating the printed image as a final product\, which is the purpose behind the Printed Vision Series.\nEach Printed Vision topic will meet for two sessions. In the first session\, we will discuss the topic and elaborate on editing with examples. This will include discussion of exposure\, dynamic range and color\, but also deeper points\, such as noise reduction\, image sharpening and grain. In between sessions 1 and 2\, attendees will independently process 1-2 images and submit them to the instructor for printing. We will print one of the two images leading into the second session and discuss some of the challenges we face in printing them.\nYou do not need to produce a new image for this class and can go into your archives to print\, but you are welcome to go out into the field and create something new based on the topic!\nThis Month’s Printed Vision Session: Comparing Paper Surfaces\nWhat does it look like on Matte Paper? What does it look like on Glossy Paper? Why would I print it on one versus the other? What does the paper bring to my image?\nIn this class\, we will help discuss the answers to these questions. In our instructional online presentation\, we’ll discuss some of the key differences between paper surfaces and present a variety of options for you to have your image printed. Then\, we will literally print the image two times so we can see the difference\, getting to the root of the answers.\nIn the end\, you will receive TWO prints of your edited image up to 13×19″ in size. (Please note: The cost of a 12×18 or 13×19 print on fine art paper is $35-$40; the cost of this class includes the cost of those prints!)\nReceiving Your Print\nAfter the class\, your print can either be mailed to you or picked up at one of our Hunt’s Photo store locations.\nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. We will also send a reminder email about 24 hours prior to the class time with that same information.\n?You Are Being Recorded? (And Other Note Related Items)\nWe will be recording this class! The video will be available for download about 24-hours after the class for all attendees\, so don?t worry about taking unending notes. We will send this link attendees to download and rewatch at any time.

SUMMARY:Online: Personal Vision Series- In Your House By Window Light (Image Review)
DESCRIPTION:Introductory Presentation Wed July 27th\, 7pm EST\nImage Review Wed August 10th\, 7pm EST\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education as we help grow your knowledge\, creativity\, and artistic expression with our expanded Personal Vision Series. These classes are designed to provide you time\, opportunity\, and guidance in shaping your creative photographic voice. We will give an overview on a specific topic in an online class session\, then give you time to go into the field by yourself (or with someone else\, if you choose) to complete an assignment based on that topic. We will reconvene a few days later for an online image review to discuss elements of your images.\nThe Personal Vision Series is a crossroads of many different ideas that we offer with Hunt’s Photo Education: Topic-based instruction/classes\, Photo Walks\, & Image Reviews. However\, unlike a Photo Walk where we will all take a certain direction\, for the ?Walk? portion\, you will be asked to journey out on your own to photograph. This will cause you to be the driving force of your creativity and vision!\nThis month?s topic is In Your House By Window Light. We will have an instructional online presentation on the first date and will reconvene for our Image Review on the second date. You will have that time period in between to photograph and edit our assignment.\nYour personal creative voice is critical to your growth as a photographer and as an artist. Join us for to help grow that voice!

SUMMARY:Multi-Session Series- Adobe Lightroom Classic- File Management & Editing (Part 2)- Hunt's Photo\, Melrose
DESCRIPTION:This is a great opportunity to build up your editing skills in Lightroom!\nAdobe Lightroom is the choice program for professionals and amateurs\, with ever-growing capabilities and options. However\, there are many levels to understanding in the program. How do we organize our photos? What do we do to make basic changes? Once we learn those changes\, how can we ?step it up? and figure out what to we?re supposed to do? How do we make images pop? And finally\, how do we put it all together and making finishing touches to our images.\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education for a course that helps answer many of these questions. Often\, Lightroom users struggle with the inability to determine what changes are ?good? or ?correct?. While those terms are subjective\, we will help you along in the editing process to see how to make determinations along the way.\nThis is a Multi-Session Class! In Week 1\, we will begin by discussing how to organize your images for quick retrieval via keywords\, ratings\, and more\, as well as giving a description on how to consider organizing your photos on your computer. Specifically\, we will cover brief computer file management\, the importance of keywords\, flagging and rating photos\, and searching metadata to find images. In Week 2\, we?ll start with the basic adjustments using Basic Development controls. More than anything\, we will be emphasizing global changes and understanding what can be done with an image in Lightroom. We?ll then dive into Color\, Curves\, Contrast & Clarity & Texture. These changes will help make your images pop. In Week 3\, we?ll discuss advanced editing\, including local adjustments\, such as radial and graduated filters\, and how to ?finish? the image- sharpening\, noise reduction\, and more.\nIn-between each session\, we will give assignments to help you become more proficient and grasp the material! This class is strongly recommended for anyone looking to further their skills with Lightroom!\nAn important note about this course! There are now a few different versions of Adobe Lightroom right now. This course is specifically on Adobe Lightroom Classic. The other version of Lightroom\, commonly known as ?Adobe Lightroom CC? (yes\, we understand you may be confused by this) is a more mobile and cloud-based program. The look and feel of the program is completely different? This course is specifically on Adobe Lightroom Classic. (See graphic on the right.) If you are unsure\, feel free to email us at classes@huntsphoto.com. Important: If you are taking this course\, make sure to download/update the program in advance\, as you will not be able to download the program at the store. Older versions\, such as Lightroom 5 or 6\, are also acceptable\, though not all functions will be available.

SUMMARY:Online: Multi-Session Series- Mastering Manual Mode (Pt 3)
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for our new Multi-Session Series. In our Multi-Session Series\, we will meet over the course of a number of weeks\, generally at the same time each week. During that time\, we will discuss a specific element of a topic and end the session by giving a photographic assignment. That assignment will be due for completion before the next class meeting\, and we will review those images at the start of the next session. If for some reason you cannot attend one of the sessions\, don’t worry! They will be recorded and you will be able to watch them at your leisure!\nOur Multi-Session Series is designed to “keep the conversation going” by engaging with our attendees in a more personal way. In each of these classes\, we will have 10-15 attendees and provide direct feedback on images. We encourage photographers of all skill levels to consider these classes\, as they will build upon your experience and provide an excellent chance to work on your imagery!\nMastering Manual Mode\nLearning about photography can be a real challenge. There are so many pieces to the puzzle of photography\, some of which use confusing terminology. For this reason\, we often start newcomers off using the Priority Modes because it’s “easier”. In reality\, these priority modes are just a short-term solution. It’s important to fully understand the “why” and “how” of your camera settings\, and learning to master manual is an excellent way to do so.\nThis Multi-Session Series will focus on Mastering Manual Mode. In week 1\, we?ll cover the technical side of aperture\, shutter\, and ISO. We?ll also discuss metering modes\, reading your meter\, and understanding histograms. In week 2\, we?ll learn to control depth of field\, focusing\, and how lens choice affects aperture choice. By week 3\, we?ll discuss how to use shutter speed effectively to either blur your motion or freeze your action. We?ll talk about shooting at night and in low light. We?ll also talk about ISO and how it controls image noise. In week 4\, we?ll put everything together by discussing dynamic range\, white balance\, and how to get the correct exposure in camera every time. We?ll also answer the most important question of all: which change should I make to achieve my desired results?\nEach week Emily will give an assignment to help further the topics covered in that week?s class. Students are encouraged to send in assignments that will be individually critiqued by Emily each week. This is a great opportunity to enhance your exposure skills while getting direct feedback on your week.\nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. We will also send a reminder email about 48 hours prior to the class time with that same information.\nLayout of the class\nThe class will begin promptly at the time listed. If for some reason you cannot attend one of the sessions\, don’t worry! They will be recorded and you will be able to watch them at your leisure! During each class\, you are welcome to type in questions in the Question box if you have specific questions as they are asked. We will do our best to answer those questions\, but if not\, feel free to ask them at the end.\n?You Are Being Recorded? (And Other Note Related Items)\nWe will be recording this class! The video will be available for download about 24-hours after the class for all attendees\, so don?t worry about taking unending notes. We will send this link attendees to download and rewatch at any time. In addition to this\, we will generally send out a PDF of the presentation (when applicable) and handouts on the topic. SUMMARY:Multi-Session Series- Adobe Lightroom Classic- File Management & Editing- Hunt's Photo\, Melrose

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Education's Youth Summer Photography Program
DESCRIPTION:Do you have a budding photographer that you want to encourage this summer break? Join Hunt’s Photo Education for a week-long photography program aimed at strengthening their interest\, improving their photography\, and getting them truly excited about being the artist\, the creator\, and the family photographer!\nOver the course of five days\, we will cover a wide range of topics\, from composition & perspective to depth of field & movement. Every day we’ll have a brief introduction to a topic followed by a fun practical exercise. Our goal is to get your photographers outside and taking pictures as much as possible! At the end of the day\, we’ll look back on the images to see what we liked about them. And at the end of the week\, we’ll print and display images from all of our students in our Hunt’s Photo Gallery for all to see.\nOur goal in this program is to have a lot of fun and not bog students down with too much technical stuff. However\, we will also scaffold instruction\, so if an attendee wants to know more about the technical aspects\, they still can!\nStudents will be required to have some kind of camera. We generally recommend a DSLR or mirrorless camera\, but it can also be a cell phone or a point and shoot camera. Pretty much any digital camera that works is acceptable!\nThis will be a fun week with experienced instruction. We look forward to seeing you there!\n*A few notes about our recommended age requirements*\nOur age requirement is very general. A certain maturity level is helpful. Younger students with interest and a level of responsibility are welcome to attend. As we mention\, we will scaffold instruction for any age range.\nAll parents/guardians will need to sign off on a permission to attend this course upon signup. Our classes will be held in our Hunt’s Photo\, Melrose store and classroom\, and surrounding outdoor areas\, including Pine Banks Park. We assure you that your student will be in a safe and fun environment. If you have any questions\, please feel free to contact us at classes@huntsphoto.com.
