DESCRIPTION:Introduction- Thursday June 4th\, 6:30pm ET • Online! \nPrint Review- Thursday June 11th\, 6pm ET • Hunt’s Melrose or Online! \nThe printed image shows our successes and our faults at a much higher level of detail than the digital image. To become better photographers\, it helps to understand this by creating the printed image as a final product. \nThis Month’s Printed Vision Session: Printing BIG and small \n“If you can’t make it good\, make it big\, and if you can’t make it big\, make it red.” – Attributed to many artists \nGo big or go home? Are many small pieces equal to one big piece? In this class\, we will look at printing big and printing small and discuss what images work on the large and small scale. We will then create one large and one small print\, looking critically at both end results! \nThis Print Review topic will meet for two sessions. In the first session\, we will discuss the topic  and present a variety of options for you to have your image printed. In between sessions 1 and 2\, attendees will independently process 1-2 images and submit them to the instructor for printing. Educator Paul Nelson will produce a recorded image review\, discussing paper options\, editing suggestions\, and more\, to be sent back to you leading up to the second session. Paul will then print images for the class. In the end\, you will receive two prints–one big and one small. (Please note: We are happy to make a larger or additional print outside of the class for an additional fee!) \nJoin us for an informative Printed Review class! \nA Note About The Printed Review Series \nOur Print Review Monthly is a chance to continue the print conversation over the course of many months. SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Workshop: A Day on Assignment- Olde Sturbridge Village
DESCRIPTION:Located an hour west of Boston\, Sturbridge Village is a proud replication of an 18th century New England town. Sturbridge Village is a living history museum that features many authentic period buildings and homes to explore and enjoy. The village is also inhabited by re-enactors who provide colorful insight to life in New England during the 18th century. Sturbridge Village is a wonderful destination for a multitude of photographic opportunities as well as a glimpse into a bygone era.\nOlde Sturbridge Village is perhaps one of the best places to have both a Photo Walk and a class. There’s a little bit of everything at this living history museum\, from macro and closeup with fine details to architecture\, from portraits to landscapes. On this workshop\, we will work for the day around a central assignment at Olde Sturbridge Village. In the end\, you should have a collection of images that support that central theme. SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Adventure: Spring in Solon\, Maine
DESCRIPTION:Spring in the woods of Maine is an exciting time for creativity. Each May\, the woods come alive with new growth that will inspire any photographer. Colorful wildflowers\, blooming trees\, streams\, waterfalls\, the night sky\, and local culture all make for fantastic photo opportunities as we explore\, learn\, and create in and around the rural town of Solon\, Maine. \nSolon\, Maine will host this Adventure: a four-day workshop featuring hands-on instruction during daily field trips\, in-depth classroom discussion\, and professional guidance from Hunt’s Photo’s Director of Photo Adventures Don Toothaker in a rustic\, relaxed atmosphere.\nSolon is a small town at the edge of some of Maine’s premier wilderness areas. Once home to a vibrant farming and logging industry\, Solon is now a quiet village that caters to outdoorsman and eco-tourism year round. Daily field trips will provide everyone with a variety of subjects that showcase the beauty and diversity of the region. \nSkill Sets: All Levels of Photographers are Welcome\nPhysical Activity: Medium. For this reason\, we often start newcomers off using the “Priority Modes” (Ex. Aperture Priority) because it’s “easier”. In reality\, these priority modes are just one solution. For some photographers\, there is only the manual mode. But why is it important to shoot in the Manual mode? Are there reasons to use manual vs. Aperture priority and vice-versa? How can we maximize usability?\nIn this class\, we will cover:\n• Your Camera’s Light Meter and how it works\n• Use of Aperture Priority vs. Manual modes\n• Histograms\n• Photographing in RAW vs. Jpeg\nUnderstanding the full-functionality of your camera is a necessity to improving your flexibility when photographing in a variety of situations. This course is designed to help you feel more comfortable about how to change your camera’s settings in those situations. It is recommended as a follow-up to our Beginner Photography course.

DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education on a beautiful photo walk photographing plants and flowers with an emphasis on macro photography. Due to space constraints\, we will also be working handheld–without tripods! We will maximize our quality to get the best shot while in this situation! This is a great exercise to work handheld to get the best shot! During this walk\, we will work on use of color\, close up/macro photography\, depth of field\, exposure and use of reflectors/diffusers.\nFuller Gardens is a public\, non-profit botanical garden in North Hampton\, New Hampshire. The gardens include continuously blooming flowers\, emphasizing a rose garden and dahlias throughout the season. DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for another entry in our series of portrait workshops where we will be creating dynamic lighting scenarios involving athletes\, recreating Media Day! Media Day portraits have become increasingly popular in the sporting world\, from the start of the sporting season to major sporting events and more. Media Day photos are used for promotional imagery to showcase the aura of the athlete. Media Day is essential in almost every high school and college. \nIn this workshop\, we will be posing athletes and creating lighting scenarios that all photographers can use as part of their arsenal when creating Media Day portraits. This is an excellent portfolio-building workshop!  We will work both indoors and outside. For indoors\, we will emphasize the use LED lighting\, including Nanlite and Aputure lighting\, as well as other elements that help build the atmosphere of your images! For outdoors\, we will use a combination of natural light and strobes to create the ultimate outdoor look! \nThis workshop will be co-taught by Hunt’s Photo Educator Paul Nelson and professional photographer Henry Marte. Both have extensive portrait experience and will take you through the full process of lighting a subject\, how to properly expose while using strobes\, and how to actually use the strobes themselves! \nPhotographers of all skill levels are encouraged to attend. \nAbout Henry Marte\nHenry is a published photographer and credited filmmaker. He specializes in various forms of photography\, including portrait\, events\, headshots\, drone\, and commercial photography. Other than attending MassArt’s Documentary Film School\, he is almost entirely self taught. He runs a small media production studio called Marte Media\, based out of Western Avenue Studios in Lowell. Some of his clients include Spartan Race\, UMass Lowell\, Phillips Academy\, Navigation Brewing Company\, and more. Originally from NYC\, he now calls Lowell\, Massachusetts his home. He enjoys New York style pizza\, walks with a camera\, and hiking to active volcanoes.

DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for our new Multi-Session Series. In our Multi-Session Series\, we will meet over the course of a number of weeks\, generally at the same time each week. During that time\, we will discuss a specific element of a topic and end the session by giving a photographic assignment. That assignment will be due for completion before the next class meeting\, and we will review those images at the start of the next session. If for some reason you cannot attend one of the sessions\, don’t worry! They will be recorded and you will be able to watch them at your leisure!\nOur Multi-Session Series is designed to “keep the conversation going” by engaging with our attendees in a more personal way. In each of these classes\, we will have limited attendees and provide direct feedback on images. We encourage photographers of all skill levels to consider these classes\, as they will build upon your experience and provide an excellent chance to work on your imagery!\nEditing in Adobe Lightroom\nThis is a great opportunity to build up your editing skills in Lightroom!\nAdobe Lightroom is the choice program for professionals and amateurs\, with ever-growing capabilities and options. However\, there are many levels to understanding in the program. What do we do to make basic changes? Once we learn those changes\, how can we “step it up” and figure out what to we’re supposed to do? How do we make images pop? And finally\, how do we put it all together and making finishing touches to our images.\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education for this three-week course that helps answer many of these questions. What’s most important about this course is that we will give weekly editing assignments\, and we will review those edits at the start of the following week. Often\, Lightroom users struggle with the inability to determine what changes are “good” or “correct”. While those terms are subjective\, we will help you along in the editing process to see how to make determinations along the way.\nIn week one\, we’ll talk about file types and adjustment ranges using Basic Development controls. More than anything\, we will be emphasizing global changes and understanding what can be done with an image in Lightroom. In week two\, we’ll dive into Color\, Curves\, Contrast & Clarity & Texture and begin to discuss a variety of masking techniques. These changes will help make your images pop. Finally\, in week three\, we’ll discuss advanced editing\, including Sharpening\, HDR\, Pano stitching and more.\nEach week\, we will give an assignment and students will upload their edited photos prior to the next class. We will\, by and large\, be working with your images in the class.\nThis class is strongly recommended for anyone either looking to just get started with editing\, or to fine-tune your editing skills!\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. We encourage photographers of all skill levels to consider these classes\, as they will build upon your experience and provide an excellent chance to work on your imagery!\nEditing in Adobe Lightroom\nThis is a great opportunity to build up your editing skills in Lightroom!\nAdobe Lightroom is the choice program for professionals and amateurs\, with ever-growing capabilities and options. However\, there are many levels to understanding in the program. What do we do to make basic changes? Once we learn those changes\, how can we “step it up” and figure out what to we’re supposed to do? How do we make images pop? And finally\, how do we put it all together and making finishing touches to our images.\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education for this three-week course that helps answer many of these questions. What’s most important about this course is that we will give weekly editing assignments\, and we will review those edits at the start of the following week. Often\, Lightroom users struggle with the inability to determine what changes are “good” or “correct”. SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Adventure: The Bold Coast of Maine\, Lubec
DESCRIPTION:Tucked into the far northeast corner of Maine is the fishing village of Lubec. Once a thriving fishing community\, Lubec is now a quiet coastal town surrounded by the remnants of their fishing legacy and the rugged\, sprawling Bold Coast. Lubec features West Quoddy Head Lighthouse\, rustic fishing harbors\, and many photographic opportunities along the coast. If weather allows\, we will spend TWO days observing and photographing the rare Atlantic Puffin offshore on nearby Machias Seal Island. \nYour passport will be required on this workshop in order to go onto Campobello Island in New Brunswick\, Canada\, if conditions allow. \nWe will maximize our time in the field shooting a multitude of subjects as well as incorporating classroom instruction\, critiques\, and photographic assignments each day. \nWhat’s included:\n•Daily excursions in and around Lubec\n•If weather allows\, two boat trips to Machias Seal Island to photograph Puffins- only 15 Americans are allowed on the island per day! \n• Lobster Cookout!\n•In-field instruction at each location\n•Image Discussion and Review \nWhat’s not included:\n•Transportation to and from Lubec\, Maine\n•Cost of food\n•Cost of hotel (Inn on the Wharf\, 69 Johnson St\, Lubec ME\, 207-733-4400) \nSkill Sets: All Levels of Photographers are Welcome\nPhysical Activity: Low to Medium. Bottom Line: Great class for confused beginners.?\n?Everything about this class was excellent. The instructors were patient and took time to answer every question thoroughly and we were given ample time to try out the techniques we were being shown. All in all\, a wonderful experience.?\n?Very much liked the instructors- knowledgeable\, entertaining\, encouraging\, not judgmental. Loved the casual nature of the class and opportunity for one-on-one discussions. Excellent for me\, as a novice.?
