Please see note below about weather. \nWeather and Weather Gear  \nA Note About Weather (and weather gear)  \nWhat to Expect  \nDuring October 2–13\, the average daily temperatures in Provence and the Camargue typically range from the 50s–60s °F (10s–20s °C). Expect:  \n\nPleasant afternoons are perfect for exploring and photographing. \n\n\nCooler mornings and evenings\, especially near the marshes and open landscapes. \n\n\nMild winds in some areas\, particularly around coastal and marsh regions. \n\n\nStunning natural light — October often brings soft\, golden light ideal for photography. \n\n\nSeasonal colors in vineyards\, historic villages\, and wildlife habitats. \n\n  \nRecommended gear: \nTo make the most of your workshop and stay comfortable\, consider bringing:  \nClothing:  \n\nLayered clothing for fluctuating temperatures (light sweaters\, long sleeves\, jackets). \n\n\nA windproof and waterproof jacket for cooler mornings and potential light rain. \n\n\nComfortable walking shoes or hiking boots for village streets\, marshes\, and uneven terrain. \n\n\nHat and sunglasses for sun protection. \n\n\nOptional: lightweight gloves and scarf for crisp mornings. \n\nPhotography Gear:  \n\nCamera(s) with multiple lenses (wide-angle for landscapes\, telephoto for wildlife). \n\n\nTripod for low-light and sunset/sunrise shots. (Optional) \n\n\nExtra batteries and memory cards. \n\n\nLens cleaning kit (dust and marsh conditions). \n\n\nA camera bag comfortable for day excursions. \n\n\nRoller camera bags or backpacks for travel are fine for this trip. \n\nLaptops & Image Management  \n\nWhile laptops are optional\, many participants find them helpful for: \n\n\nReviewing images daily to check composition\, exposure\, and focus. \n\n\nParticipating in critiques with the instructor and peers. \n\n\nBacking up and organizing files during the workshop to ensure nothing is lost. \n\nTips  \n\nBring a lightweight laptop if possible\, to avoid heavy loads while traveling. \n\n\nInclude your charging cables and any necessary adapters for France (European plug type C/E/F). \n\n\nConsider using portable external drives or cloud storage for additional backup. \n\n\nIf you choose not to bring a laptop\, a memory card organizer and backup cards will suffice for image storage. \n\n  \nOther Essentials:  \n\nReusable water bottle. \n\n\nNotebook or journal for notes and inspiration. \n\n\nSmall backpack or daypack for daily outings. \n\n  \nLuggage:   \n\nSoft-sided luggage with wheels is strongly recommended. These are easier to fit in the vans and allow flexibility for tight spaces. \n\n\nDuffel bags are good as well. \n\n\nConsider stair access at hotels or historic accommodations — if you anticipate needing to carry your luggage up a flight of stairs\, pack only what you can comfortably manage. (We will be there to help\, but please consider) \n\nTravel information\nYou need to fly into Marseille Provence Airport (MRS). There will be a bulk pickup of attendees at the airport. If you choose to arrive earlier or stay later\, you will need to make your own arrangements for transportation into Provence. \nHotel information\nAll hotels have been secured for you during the workshop. Due to the sensitive nature of this workshop and the difficulty of securing accommodations\, we will not be detailing our itinerary or accommodations to anyone who is not attending this workshop.  All accommodations in Camargue and Provence are 3-star hotels. \nPayments\nA non-refundable reservation fee of $2000 (25%) is required upon sign-up to secure a spot. The total cost of the trip is $7995 per person for single occupancy.  Please note that the reservation fee and payments on this workshop are non-refundable. Please make sure to purchase insurance in case you need to cancel your trip. (You can purchase trip insurance from numerous insurance companies– Allianz\, AAA\, and more.)\nThe remaining balance is due 120-days (4 months) prior to the workshop and can be made on this page. \nSharing a Room? \nIf you are signing up for two tickets and sharing a room\, you can receive $1\,000 off the cost of each ticket. SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Adventure: Autumn in New Orleans & The Louisiana Bayou
DESCRIPTION:Workshop Description \nHunt’s Photo Adventure leaders Bob Fletcher and Jeff Swinger invite you to a unique Photo Adventure to New Orleans & the Louisiana Bayou. The trip will have a variety of subjects\, from street photography and architecture to wildlife and swampy landscapes!\nThe first two days we will be exploring New Orleans’s French Quarter\, Bourbon Street\, the Garden District\, and the Gothic above-ground cemetery that you have seen so often on television and in movies. You will be photographing architecture and street performers\, riding on a historic streetcar\, and enjoying the warm ambiance of New Orleans. \nThe rest of the days\, prepare yourself for an adventure through the swamps and bayous of Louisiana. You will embark on your journey in a custom-built vessel with a covered roof to keep you dry and cool. Tours are narrated by Capt. Billy Gaston\, who was born and raised in the Bayou. Toilet facilities are available on board the boat with special attention given to seniors and the physically challenged. \nThe cypress swamps of Louisiana are beautifully scenic\, but can be difficult to photograph without a boat to access most of the photogenic areas and an experienced guide to get you there. Photographing out of boats\, you will be shooting mostly handheld.  Wildlife like egrets\, herons\, turtles\, snakes\, owls\, and alligators can be common sightings in the swamp. You will want to bring a variety of focal lengths from wide angle to telephoto to get the most out of your trip. Early November to mid-December is the best time to be in the swamps. Wildlife is preparing for winter and is active and abundant. The cypress trees can take on a rusty appearance and fog can be common in the mornings. \n \nItinerary\nThis photography workshop begins in New Orleans\, where we’ll immerse ourselves in the energy and character of the French Quarter. From historic streets and iconic architecture to street performers and classic New Orleans flavors\, the city provides endless opportunities for storytelling and candid photography\, both day and night. We’ll explore at a relaxed pace\, focusing on capturing the spirit and visual rhythm of the Quarter. \n  \nMidway through the trip\, we head south to Morgan City and into the heart of Louisiana’s bayou country. Here\, the focus shifts to wildlife and landscape photography as we explore winding waterways by boat with a local Cajun guide. Cypress trees\, moss-draped swamps\, and native wildlife—including alligators and birdlife—create a completely different visual experience. Sunrise and afternoon sessions allow us to work in the best light\, with time built in for image review and post-processing discussions. One day includes a catered Southern Low Country shrimp boil lunch in the bayou\, paired with live local musicians for entertainment—an authentic Cajun experience between shooting sessions. The workshop concludes with a relaxed return to New Orleans for departures. \n\n  \nWhat’s included: \n\nIn-field instruction throughout the entire workshop\nPost-production time using Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop\nImage reviews and critiques\, as requested\nAll local vehicle transportation and tour boat transportation with our local guide\nLocal Cajun guide and boat captain\, born and raised in the bayou\n\nWhat’s not included: \n\nFlight and baggage to and from New Orleans\nLodging\nMeals\nTips to our local guide and Cajun musicians\nTrip insurance\, which is recommended for any Hunt’s Photo Adventure\n\nSkill Sets: All Levels of Photographers are Welcome\nPhysical Activity: Low to Mild\, mostly just walking \nIn this workshop we will cover: \n\nTracking Focus\nExposure\nComposition\nMetering\nUse of Lenses\nSubject Development\nCreative Thinking\nShooting in Low Light\n\n  \nRecommended gear: \nCamera(s)\, plenty of memory cards and camera batteries\nWide angle\, standard\, and telephoto lenses (If you are looking for a lens to rent\, you can rent it from us at rentals.huntsphoto.com!)\nTripod and/or monopod\nPolarizers and Neutral Density filters\nSunscreen\, bug repellent \nTravel information to MSY\nArrive by Nov. 2nd before 11:00 am.  At 11:00 am on Nov. 2nd there will be a group pick-up at Louis Armstrong Int’l Airport (MSY).  You will be returned to MSY by 1:00 pm on Nov. 7th for your flight home.  If these dates and/or times do not work for you\, consider coming in a day earlier or staying a day later. \nHotel information \nLodging is not included in the cost of this Adventure. Hotel reservations have been secured for the group in New Orleans and Morgan City\, LA. This essential information will be shared during the registration process once full payment for the workshop has been completed. After that\, please contact the hotels directly and provide them with your name and credit card details to finalize your room reservation. \nAbout Weather \nNovember brings comfortable temperatures in Louisiana\, with lows in the 50’s and highs in the mid-70s\, ideal for exploring and photographing outdoors.\nParticipants should use ONE (1) soft-sided rolling duffle for luggage and ONE (1) camera case.  Pack conservatively as the portage room is limited. \nPayments\nA non-refundable deposit of 25% is required upon registration to secure a spot.
