SUMMARY:Hunt's Portrait Workshop: Urban Portraits Along the Riverwalk in Lowell with Natural Light (and Flash!)
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for another entry in our series of portrait workshops where we will be utilizing the natural\, urban environment to work into our portraits. Brick buildings and cityscapes will all work into our compositions as we create a more working class feel in our portraits–a very unique look. To a certain extent\, these will be environmental portraits where the environment plays a role in creating the scene. Utilizing your environment in photographs is key to creating a fun portrait shoot! We will emphasize creating these portraits using available light through subject placement and composition with the aid of diffusers and reflectors. We will then separately demonstrate reasons to add in flash.\nWe will begin photographing late afternoon in the sunlight (and shade) and work to sunset along the Merrimack River along the Riverwalk in Lowell. We will be using strobes/flashes as well as diffusers to create stunning portraits.\nThis workshop will be co-taught by Hunt’s Photo Educator Paul Nelson and professional photographer Henry Marte. Both have extensive portrait experience and will take you through the full process\, from naturally lighting a subject\, to how to properly expose while using strobes\, to how to actually use the strobes themselves!\nPhotographers of all skill levels are encouraged to attend. \nAbout Henry Marte\nHenry is a published photographer and credited filmmaker. He specializes in various forms of photography\, including portrait\, events\, headshots\, drone\, and commercial photography. Other than attending MassArt’s Documentary Film School\, he is almost entirely self taught. He runs a small media production studio called Marte Media\, based out of Western Avenue Studios in Lowell. Some of his clients include Spartan Race\, UMass Lowell\, Phillips Academy\, Navigation Brewing Company\, and more. Originally from NYC\, he now calls Lowell\, Massachusetts his home. He enjoys New York style pizza\, walks with a camera\, and hiking to active volcanoes.

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Walk: A Day in Shelburne Falls and the Bridge of Flowers
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for a walk around Shelburne Falls\, Massachusetts and the picturesque “Bridge of Flowers”.\nShelburne Falls was once a great fishing area for Native Americans\, but progressed into a manufacturing town. This area has a nice view and allows for interesting shots of the falls. The old trolley bridge was converted into a walkway and managed by the women of the town. They planted flowers and shrubs to create a more pleasing atmosphere. Today\, thousands of visitors come to view this area and photograph the flowers.\nAlthough the falls setting is more of a landscape viewing\, the bridge of flowers poses an excellent opportunity for macro lovers. We will divide our time on this walk between macro/close-up photography on and around the bridge and landscape/longer exposure photography around the falls . This will be an excellent opportunity to utilize both macro lenses and neutral density filters.

DESCRIPTION:Introduction- Thursday June 4th\, 6:30pm ET • Online! \nPrint Review- Thursday June 11th\, 6pm ET • Hunt’s Melrose or Online! \nThe printed image shows our successes and our faults at a much higher level of detail than the digital image. To become better photographers\, it helps to understand this by creating the printed image as a final product. \nThis Month’s Printed Vision Session: Printing BIG and small \n“If you can’t make it good\, make it big\, and if you can’t make it big\, make it red.” – Attributed to many artists \nGo big or go home? Are many small pieces equal to one big piece? In this class\, we will look at printing big and printing small and discuss what images work on the large and small scale. We will then create one large and one small print\, looking critically at both end results! \nThis Print Review topic will meet for two sessions. In the first session\, we will discuss the topic  and present a variety of options for you to have your image printed. In between sessions 1 and 2\, attendees will independently process 1-2 images and submit them to the instructor for printing. Educator Paul Nelson will produce a recorded image review\, discussing paper options\, editing suggestions\, and more\, to be sent back to you leading up to the second session. Paul will then print images for the class. In the end\, you will receive two prints–one big and one small. DESCRIPTION:Located an hour west of Boston\, Sturbridge Village is a proud replication of an 18th century New England town. Sturbridge Village is a living history museum that features many authentic period buildings and homes to explore and enjoy. The village is also inhabited by re-enactors who provide colorful insight to life in New England during the 18th century. Sturbridge Village is a wonderful destination for a multitude of photographic opportunities as well as a glimpse into a bygone era.\nOlde Sturbridge Village is perhaps one of the best places to have both a Photo Walk and a class. There’s a little bit of everything at this living history museum\, from macro and closeup with fine details to architecture\, from portraits to landscapes. On this workshop\, we will work for the day around a central assignment at Olde Sturbridge Village. In the end\, you should have a collection of images that support that central theme. SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Adventure: Spring in Solon\, Maine
DESCRIPTION:Spring in the woods of Maine is an exciting time for creativity. Each May\, the woods come alive with new growth that will inspire any photographer. Colorful wildflowers\, blooming trees\, streams\, waterfalls\, the night sky\, and local culture all make for fantastic photo opportunities as we explore\, learn\, and create in and around the rural town of Solon\, Maine. \nSolon\, Maine will host this Adventure: a four-day workshop featuring hands-on instruction during daily field trips\, in-depth classroom discussion\, and professional guidance from Hunt’s Photo’s Director of Photo Adventures Don Toothaker in a rustic\, relaxed atmosphere.\nSolon is a small town at the edge of some of Maine’s premier wilderness areas. Once home to a vibrant farming and logging industry\, Solon is now a quiet village that caters to outdoorsman and eco-tourism year round. Daily field trips will provide everyone with a variety of subjects that showcase the beauty and diversity of the region. \nSkill Sets: All Levels of Photographers are Welcome\nPhysical Activity: Medium. DESCRIPTION:After learning “the basics” of digital photography\, become more comfortable in the world of digital photography by taking the next step.\nLearning about photography can be a real challenge! For this reason\, we often start newcomers off using the “Priority Modes” (Ex. Aperture Priority) because it’s “easier”. In reality\, these priority modes are just one solution. For some photographers\, there is only the manual mode. But why is it important to shoot in the Manual mode? Are there reasons to use manual vs. Aperture priority and vice-versa? How can we maximize usability?\nIn this class\, we will cover:\n• Your Camera’s Light Meter and how it works\n• Use of Aperture Priority vs. Manual modes\n• Histograms\n• Photographing in RAW vs. Jpeg\nUnderstanding the full-functionality of your camera is a necessity to improving your flexibility when photographing in a variety of situations. This course is designed to help you feel more comfortable about how to change your camera’s settings in those situations. It is recommended as a follow-up to our Beginner Photography course.

DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education on a beautiful photo walk photographing plants and flowers with an emphasis on macro photography. Due to space constraints\, we will also be working handheld–without tripods! We will maximize our quality to get the best shot while in this situation! This is a great exercise to work handheld to get the best shot! During this walk\, we will work on use of color\, close up/macro photography\, depth of field\, exposure and use of reflectors/diffusers.\nFuller Gardens is a public\, non-profit botanical garden in North Hampton\, New Hampshire. The gardens include continuously blooming flowers\, emphasizing a rose garden and dahlias throughout the season.
