Harness your creative power with photography! \nThis is one of the first classes to consider when you’re getting started with your Digital SLR or Mirrorless camera. We will discuss Exposure (how light works with the camera)\, the Big Three Settings (Aperture\, Shutter Speed\, & ISO)\, how they affect your picture and how to set them\, and what mode to set it to on your camera! We’ll discuss changing depth-of-field (controlling what’s in focus in the background\, stopping or blurring the action in your scene\, and many other basic picture-taking techniques. We recommend taking this class prior to Digital Photography Basics 2\, which is the next logical step! \nJoin us to start learning about Digital Photography! \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. SUMMARY:Online: Multi-Session Series- Working with Landscape Photography
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for our Multi-Session Series. In our Multi-Session Series\, we will meet over the course of a number of weeks\, generally at the same time each week. During that time\, we will discuss a specific element of a topic and end the session by giving a photographic assignment. That assignment will be due for completion before the next class meeting\, and we will review those images at the start of the next session. If for some reason you cannot attend one of the sessions\, don’t worry! They will be recorded and you will be able to watch them at your leisure!\nOur Multi-Session Series is designed to “keep the conversation going” by engaging with our attendees in a more personal way. In each of these classes\, we will have 10-15 attendees and provide direct feedback on images. We encourage photographers of all skill levels to consider these classes\, as they will build upon your experience and provide an excellent chance to work on your imagery!\nLandscape Photography\nLandscape photography is one of the most easily accessible genres of photography and is enjoyed by many. What does it take to create a landscape image that stands out? Join Hunt’s Photo Education as we go beyond “F8 and be there” and dive deep into the technical\, artistic\, and practical aspects of landscape photography.\nIn week one\, we’ll cover what it takes to plan and the settings necessary for your best shots. We’ll also talk about the gear all landscape photographers should have in their bags and what to do when the weather just won’t cooperate. In week two\, we’ll edit landscape images from start to finish using Adobe Lightroom Classic. By week three\, we’ll discuss composition\, dynamic range\, depth of field\, and focus. We’ll also discuss when to shoot in color and when to shoot in black and white. In our last week\, we’ll cover shooting and editing HDR images and panorama images in Adobe Lightroom Classic. We’ll also cover shooting landscapes at night as well as astrolandscapes. Each week\, Emily will give an assignment to hone your new skills and each student will receive individualized critiques. SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Walk: Mt Auburn Cemetery in the Fall
DESCRIPTION:Mt. Auburn Cemetery is one of Massachusetts’s most beautiful green spaces. This large\, rolling parcel of land was America’s first garden-style cemetery. The historical 174-acre cemetery serves as a final resting place for the deceased\, but it is also an arboretum full of flowers\, flowering trees\, colorful shrubs\, architecture\, and wildlife.\nOn this Photo Walk\, we will specifically photograph the cemetery in the fall! This will be a fantastic opportunity to work on macro while photographing the change of the seasons\, all within the confines of the beautiful rolling landscapes of Mt. Auburn Cemetery.

There is so much to photograph there and a wonderful variety of subject matter\, including textures\, angles\, and compositions that can lead to some truly excellent photographs. SUMMARY:Developing Black & White Film- Hunt's Photo Waltham
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education as we discuss all the key elements of loading and developing film\, and get you to develop a roll on your own! In this workshop\, we will show you how to load film into a developing tank\, discuss the elements of the chemistry involved\, and other various aspects. Because of the many variables\, we will only be using one specific type of developer\, but we will discuss the possibilities of other developers available and their advantages. \nPlease note: This class caters to black & white film developing only! We will also have a color film developing class. All film classes can be found here. \nWe will provide tanks\, reels\, chemistry\, and basically anything that you need to develop your film. All you will need to have is a roll of film to develop. (Make sure that roll is black and white and NOT C-41 black and white\, as that cannot be developed in black and white chemistry!) \nWe will also include a free scan of your film after it has been processed! Since your film will be wet at the end of the session\, you will leave it to dry so it can be scanned. The digital scans will be sent directly to your email address. If you would like the negatives to be shipped to another store for pickup\, we can gladly do that!

These classes are designed to provide you time\, opportunity\, and guidance in shaping your creative photographic voice. We will give an overview on a specific topic in an online class session\, then give you time to go into the field by yourself (or with someone else\, if you choose) to complete an assignment based on that topic. We will reconvene a few days later for an online image review to discuss elements of your images.\nThe Personal Vision Series is a crossroads of many different ideas that we offer with Hunt’s Photo Education: Topic-based instruction/classes\, Photo Walks\, & Image Reviews. However\, unlike a Photo Walk where we will all take a certain direction\, for the “Walk” portion\, you will be asked to journey out on your own to photograph. This will cause you to be the driving force of your creativity and vision!\nThis month’s topic is “Do NOT be Literal”. We will have an instructional online presentation on the first date and will reconvene for our Image Review on the second date. What does it take to create a landscape image that stands out? DESCRIPTION:Photographers scout locations before a scheduled event or workshop to pre-determine viable places for exploration\, creativity\, and learning. The scouting process often involves targeting specific areas of interest as well as wandering curiously with an open mind to find other points of interest. Almost every photographer new to a location starts with a clean slate and learns as they go. Planning can be beneficial\, but serendipity can be joyously fruitful. Whether a moment is planned or spontaneous\, learning and growth are essential. \nThe Hunt’s Photo Explorer Series will consist of excursions that vary in duration depending on the chosen location\, and locations will be places not previously visited or scouted for a Hunt’s Photo Walk\, Adventure\, or Workshop. Everyone will meet at a designated parking location and then begin exploring both in a group and individual format\, so as to understand what to look for on a scouting location (and to scout on one’s own). Exploring locations “sight unseen” allows individual’s unique opportunities to further develop their photography skills and creative vision. \nHistoric Deerfield\, Massachusetts \nThe town of Deerfield in Western Massachusetts is a small town with a pleasant New England-style\, with rural landscapes\, old homes\, and a quaint feel. Historic Deerfield is a small section of the town that consists of villages preserved from the 18th & 19th centuries. We will spend the day exploring the areas inside and out! \nWe will also regroup for an image review on October 23rd.

Photographers of all skill levels are encouraged to attend!\nHorn Pond is a wonderfully scenic area\, offering many outdoor activities such as hiking and bike riding. These same trails are an excellent place to explore many types of photographic opportunities\, emphasizing nature\, landscape\, and macro. On many of our walks\, the quality of day can positively or negatively affect how our images turn out. On this walk\, we will emphasize making the best out of any situation\, whether cloudy\, sunny or rainy (well\, not too rainy). Bring your creative thoughts!\nWe recommend having both a standard zoom lens and telephoto zoom lens\, preferably one that will go to 200mm or above.\nPlease note: There will be a good amount of walking on this Photo Walk. Nothing too treacherous\, but make sure to wear comfortable shoes!

DESCRIPTION:The city of Salem is synonymous with the Salem Witch Trials of the late-1600s\, and although the trials took place outside what is now commonly known as Salem\, the city has adopted them as part of its identity. Many of the city’s cobblestone walks\, 17th-19th century houses & architecture\, and cemeteries have been maintained\, reflecting Salem’s identity as a haunted community. \nOn this walk\, we will be working on street photography in one of the wildest times of year in Salem- October! Prepare yourself for frights\, sights\, and lots and lots of people\, as these streets can become incredibly busy! Part of getting great street photography is finding good opportunities for subject matter\, and this will give you many great chances! Join us for a fun-filled morning. \nPlease note: Parking in Salem can be extremely difficult this time of year. We strongly recommend you consider taking the commuter rail into Salem. With that in mind\, make sure you leave yourself plenty of time!

In this hands-on event\, participants will learn essential video production skills while collaborating on a branding-style video for The Kitchen–a cooking school near our Hunt’s Melrose location– for use on social media. The workshop offers a unique opportunity to work with industry professionals\, gain practical experience\, and contribute to a meaningful project supporting a local culinary institution. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced creator\, this workshop promises valuable insights and a chance to make a real impact through visual storytelling! \nThis is a 2-Part class. Part 1 will be a Video Production Seminar on Friday October 17th\, 6-8pm in our Hunt’s Melrose store location.  We will reconvene on Saturday\, October 18th from 10am-12pm for our Hands-On Location Shoot at The Kitchen in Melrose\, located about a mile from our Hunt’s Melrose store. After shooting\, we will return to Hunt’s Melrose for lunch\, provided by Tamron\, from 12:30-1:30pm. We will then hold a Video Editing Class from 2-5pm in our Hunt’s Melrose classroom. \nAbout Gear- Each attendee will have an opportunity to create footage during the production portion\, but we will all be working together as a group and working on elements of production. Tamron will also have loaner lenses available to use! \nJoin us for a unique shooting experience! \n  \nAbout André Costantini \nAndré is a filmmaker\, editor\, photographer\, and musician. He has spent the past 20 years creating commissioned documentary and industrial films and an award-winning comedy. DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education as we dive into hand-printing!\nCyanotypes are quite literally BLUE prints that can be simply made by placing a negative on top of a piece of coated paper (or other material) under UV light (or the sun) for a period of time. Once washed in water\, the resulting print produces a brilliant blue image on a white background. \nDuring our mini-sessions\, we will create cyanotypes by coating (and drying) papers and fabrics\, create test prints and final prints\, and discuss additional elements to change the look of our final prints\, including bleaching and toning. We will be utilizing hand-made UV boxes in the store (so if the weather isn’t great\, we don’t have to rely on the sun). \nTo prepare for this class\, we will send out a pre-recorded video a few days prior to the class where we will discuss the process\, materials needed\, and the preparation to be working with the cyanotype chemistry (see Misc notes above). We will also discuss how to create a digital negative. In advance of the class\, we will be creating your own digital negatives from an inkjet printer\, so you don’t actually need a negative and you don’t need a printer\, as we will be printing them in the store. \nOne Final Note: All chemistry\, negative creation (up to 8×10)\, and some papers will be provided. You are welcome to bring other papers or fabrics\, if you would like to use them. \nThis class is also one that you are welcome to take multiple times. Come try it out\, then come back and create more! You can be a beginner or an intermediate creator! \nA few items of note:\n• In this workshop\, we will be utilizing cyanotype chemistry\, consisting of ferric ammonium citrate (for light sensitivity) and potassium ferricyanide (for color). As described by the chemistry company Photographers Formulary\, “…[Potassium Ferricyanide] is not particularly toxic… [unless] placed in a strong acid solution; however\, strong acid is not used in the cyanotype process.”\n• Because we will be working with chemistry\, you must follow all instructions given regarding chemistry and personal protective equipment.\n• Because this chemistry can stain\, we will be taking precautions and wearing gloves. We strongly recommend bringing an apron\, one that you won’t mind if it changes colors.

DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for our Multi-Session Series. In our Multi-Session Series\, we will meet over the course of a number of weeks\, generally at the same time each week. We encourage photographers of all skill levels to consider these classes\, as they will build upon your experience and provide an excellent chance to work on your imagery!\nLandscape Photography\nLandscape photography is one of the most easily accessible genres of photography and is enjoyed by many. What does it take to create a landscape image that stands out? Join Hunt’s Photo Education as we go beyond “F8 and be there” and dive deep into the technical\, artistic\, and practical aspects of landscape photography.\nIn week one\, we’ll cover what it takes to plan and the settings necessary for your best shots. We’ll also talk about the gear all landscape photographers should have in their bags and what to do when the weather just won’t cooperate. DESCRIPTION:About the Nifty Fifty Workshops\nEvery photographer at one point or another has the internal struggle before going to photograph: What lenses should I bring with me today? The common answer is as many as I can without being too uncomfortable. And so we pack up our wide\, standard\, telephoto\, prime\, and macro lenses and head out into the field\, forcing ourselves to endure limitless choices while sacrificing simplicity.\nOur Nifty Fifty workshops flip the script and force you to only carry one lens: A 50mm lens\, nostalgically referred to as a “nifty fifty”. With limitations\, what can you achieve? \nWorkshop Description\nLocated an hour west of Boston\, Sturbridge Village is a proud replication of an 18th century New England town. Sturbridge Village is a living history museum that features many authentic period buildings and homes to explore and enjoy. The village is also inhabited by re-enactors who provide colorful insight to life in New England during the 18th century. Sturbridge Village is a wonderful destination for a multitude of photographic opportunities as well as a glimpse into a bygone era. \nOlde Sturbridge Village is perhaps one of the best places to have both a Photo Walk and a class. There’s a little bit of everything at this living history museum\, from macro and closeup with fine details to architecture\, from portraits to landscapes. On this workshop\, we will photograph both indoors and outdoors\, in regular light as well as very low light. We will focus our energies and use only a 50mm lens to create our photographs\, which will be both limiting and expressive! \nImage Review \nWe will follow this workshop up with an image review. We ask that you submit three images for review. \nJoin us for a great experience! \n*Question: Are other prime lenses acceptable? Olympus/Panasonic users may use a 25mm lens\, since it gives the same look as a 50mm and other primes can be used as an alternative\, but we ask that you try to keep it at one prime in as close to that range as possible. Remember- this is a “nifty fifty” workshop\, not a “mighty ninety” workshop. (And does that even really rhyme?)
