SUMMARY:Online: Multi-Session Series- Food Photography (Pt 3)
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for our Multi-Session Series. In our Multi-Session Series\, we will meet over the course of a number of weeks\, generally at the same time each week. During that time\, we will discuss a specific element of a topic and end the session by giving a photographic assignment. That assignment will be due for completion before the next class meeting\, and we will review those images at the start of the next session. If for some reason you cannot attend one of the sessions\, don’t worry! They will be recorded and you will be able to watch them at your leisure!\nOur Multi-Session Series is designed to “keep the conversation going” by engaging with our attendees in a more personal way. In each of these classes\, we will have 10-15 attendees and provide direct feedback on images. We encourage photographers of all skill levels to consider these classes\, as they will build upon your experience and provide an excellent chance to work on your imagery!\nFood Photography\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education as we discuss everything you need to get started with food photography including gear\, props\, and shooting techniques!\nFor this course\, we’ll start with composition in the first week\, discussing the core compositional principles\, choosing the right food and mood for a shoot\, and which angle is best for your subject.\nIn week two\, we’ll move past natural light and begin controlling and shaping artificial light. We’ll discuss size\, quality\, and direction of light as well as the best light modifiers to achieve that natural light look even at night! Color is a key element of food photography and we’ll cover everything from color psychology to perfecting white balance.\nBy the third week\, we’ll be working on styling our scenes with various props\, backgrounds\, and ingredients. Emily will show you the how and the why as we work through advanced compositional techniques. We’ll talk gear and how you don’t need to spend a fortune or have a lot of space to be a successful food photographer.\nIn our final week\, we’ll tie everything together and sharpen each student’s individual food style. We’ll discuss how to bring out the best of our food while telling a story and examine how foods can evoke emotional responses from our viewers.\nEach week you’ll have a new assignment that will build a diverse portfolio of food photography. Along the way\, you’ll be able to ask Emily questions and receive weekly individual\, personalized critiques and feedbacks from your assignment images. Emily will also be giving you editing tutorials using Adobe Lightroom Classic so we can put the final touches on our images.\nPhotographers should have an understanding of exposure before taking this class.\nWeek 1: Composition\nWeek 2: Light & Color\nWeek 3: Styling\nWeek 4: Storytelling\nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. We will also send a reminder email about 24 hours prior to the class time with that same information.\nLayout of the class\nThe class will begin promptly at the time listed. If for some reason you cannot attend one of the sessions\, don’t worry! They will be recorded and you will be able to watch them at your leisure! During each class\, you are welcome to type in questions in the Question box if you have specific questions as they are asked. We will do our best to answer those questions\, but if not\, feel free to ask them at the end.\n?You Are Being Recorded? (And Other Note Related Items)\nWe will be recording this class! The video will be available for download about 24-hours after the class for all attendees\, so don?t worry about taking unending notes. We will send this link attendees to download and rewatch at any time. In addition to this\, we will generally send out a PDF of the presentation (when applicable) and handouts on the topic. If handouts and PDFs are included\, we will send it out with the link for the video.\nNo online classes should be shared and cannot be shared in a public environment\, including with camera clubs\nThe online content is the copyright of Hunt’s Photo Education and/or the Instructor. Please support our education team and instructors by not sharing this material! We appreciate your support\, and it’s thanks to that support that we are able to continue producing content!

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Adventure: The 2024 Total Eclipse in Texas
DESCRIPTION:Workshop Description\nIn April 2024\, North America will be treated with a total solar eclipse\, the most spectacular kind of eclipse\, where the moon perfectly obscures the sun. The path of total shadow (umbra) across the Earth’s surface is typically 30 to 50 miles wide while the path of partial shadow (penumbra) can reach over 1\,000 miles wide. In this case\, the eclipse will be visible from Texas to Maine\, with greatest chance for visibility in the Southern section of the US.\nOn this unique\, once-in-a-lifetime workshop\, we will be discussing and instructing on how to photograph the total solar eclipse\, then put our practice to the test by photographing the eclipse from an excellent (currently undisclosed*) location.\nIn preparation for the workshop\, we will make sure you are aware of the proper gear you will need to bring\, from filters to cameras and lenses to tripods and more! We will meet online about two weeks prior (TBA) to discuss more of the specifics and give you a “dry run” of the process. We will maximize our time in the field practicing our “eclipse timing” and spend the entire previous day running through the whole setup\, including composition\, camera settings\, when to utilize filters\, how to execute bracketing\, and more so that you are fully prepared during the eclipse. After the eclipse\, we will also have a day for post-processing\, which is extremely unique to this type of photography.\nFor many\, this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Because eclipse locations can become crowded\, we have decided not to disclose our specific location or the hotel we will be using. We will share that information with you upon registration. \nWhat’s included in the workshop: (Sunrise @ 7:00 am\, Sunset @ 8 pm)\n• Two days of in-field instruction\, timing practice and eclipse day instruction\n• Airport P/U & return\, ground transportation while in the field\n• Experienced workshop leaders\n• Image Discussion\, Post-Processing\, and Review Sessions \nWhat’s not included in the workshop:\n• Air fare or baggage fees to and from Dallas-Fort Worth\n• Lodging- We have secured a hotel in Texas for all attendees. SUMMARY:Multi-Session Series- Adobe Lightroom Classic- File Management & Editing- Hunt's Photo\, Melrose
DESCRIPTION:This is a great opportunity to build up your editing skills in Lightroom!\nAdobe Lightroom is the choice program for professionals and amateurs\, with ever-growing capabilities and options. However\, there are many levels to understanding in the program. How do we organize our photos? What do we do to make basic changes? Once we learn those changes\, how can we “step it up” and figure out what to we’re supposed to do? How do we make images pop? And finally\, how do we put it all together and making finishing touches to our images.\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education for a course that helps answer many of these questions. Often\, Lightroom users struggle with the inability to determine what changes are “good” or “correct”. While those terms are subjective\, we will help you along in the editing process to see how to make determinations along the way.\nThis is a Multi-Session Class! In Week 1\, we will begin by discussing how to organize your images for quick retrieval via keywords\, ratings\, and more\, as well as giving a description on how to consider organizing your photos on your computer. Specifically\, we will cover brief computer file management\, the importance of keywords\, flagging and rating photos\, and searching metadata to find images. In Week 2\, we’ll start with the basic adjustments using Basic Development controls. More than anything\, we will be emphasizing global changes and understanding what can be done with an image in Lightroom. We’ll then dive into Color\, Curves\, Contrast & Clarity & Texture. These changes will help make your images pop. In Week 3\, we’ll discuss advanced editing\, including local adjustments\, such as radial and graduated filters\, and how to “finish” the image- sharpening\, noise reduction\, and more.\nIn-between each session\, we will give assignments to help you become more proficient and grasp the material! This class is strongly recommended for anyone looking to further their skills with Lightroom! \n \nAn important note about this course! There are now a few different versions of Adobe Lightroom right now. This course is specifically on Adobe Lightroom Classic. The other version of Lightroom\, commonly known as “Adobe Lightroom CC” (yes\, we understand you may be confused by this) is a more mobile and cloud-based program. The look and feel of the program is completely different– This course is specifically on Adobe Lightroom Classic. (See graphic on the right.) If you are unsure\, feel free to email us at classes@huntsphoto.com. Important: If you are taking this course\, make sure to download/update the program in advance\, as you will not be able to download the program at the store. Older versions\, such as Lightroom 5 or 6\, are also acceptable\, though not all functions will be available. \n \nCurious which Adobe plan to get? We recommend the 20GB Photography Plan\, detailed in the screenshot on the left. You can find it here!

SUMMARY:Online: Multi-Session Series- Food Photography (Pt 4)
During each class\, you are welcome to type in questions in the Question box if you have specific questions as they are asked. We will do our best to answer those questions\, but if not\, feel free to ask them at the end.\n?You Are Being Recorded? (And Other Note Related Items)\nWe will be recording this class! SUMMARY:Online: Personal Vision Series- Diagonal Lines
DESCRIPTION:Introductory Presentation Tuesday April 16th\, 7pm EST\nImage Review Tuesday May 7th\, 7pm EST \nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education as we help grow your knowledge\, creativity\, and artistic expression with our expanded Personal Vision Series. These classes are designed to provide you time\, opportunity\, and guidance in shaping your creative photographic voice. We will give an overview on a specific topic in an online class session\, then give you time to go into the field by yourself (or with someone else\, if you choose) to complete an assignment based on that topic. We will reconvene a few days later for an online image review to discuss elements of your images.\nThe Personal Vision Series is a crossroads of many different ideas that we offer with Hunt’s Photo Education: Topic-based instruction/classes\, Photo Walks\, & Image Reviews. However\, unlike a Photo Walk where we will all take a certain direction\, for the “Walk” portion\, you will be asked to journey out on your own to photograph. This will cause you to be the driving force of your creativity and vision!\nThis month’s topic is “Diagonal Lines”. We will have an instructional online presentation on the first date and will reconvene for our Image Review on the second date. You will have that time period in between to photograph and edit our assignment. Your personal creative voice is critical to your growth as a photographer and as an artist. Join us for to help grow that voice!

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Workshop: Long Exposure Photography with Thibault Roland
DESCRIPTION:Photography has the power to freeze time\, to capture the world and reality. In most people’s mind photography has to be truthful to reality. It has to depict a scene\, and atmosphere\, and event accurately. But photography is so much more than a simple tool to document our lives… \nIt is also a way to express ourselves\, our point of view\, to share our messages. Photography is art. Photography can be abstract and minimalistic. It allows us to change what we see based on our emotions and intent. \nLong exposure is a technique that embraces this approach: it transforms reality into something else\, into a dialogue between the artist\, the subject and viewer. By stretching the time used to capture a single image\, the photographer includes movement in their art: water becomes smooth\, clouds create long silky streaks\, trees blur out in the wind… the effects are endless. \nFor this hands-on workshop\, we will meet at our Hunt’s Photo Boston location in the Back Bay\, make our way towards the Charles River\, and after that the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. You will use these subjects to create unique-looking images and learn the fascinating technique of long exposure. Don’t miss this chance to refine your skills and explore new photographic perspectives! \nWhat’s Included? \n• Online Introduction to Long Exposure and Infrared Techniques\, presented on Wednesday April 17th\, 7pm EDT \n• In-Person Workshop\, Saturday April 20th\, 10am-2pm \n• Online Editing with Thibault/Image Review\, Sunday May 5th\, 7pm EDT \nSony Sponsored \nThis workshop is sponsored by Sony. As such\, we will have Sony cameras and lenses available for use! Interested in trying a particular Sony product? Just let us know! \nWeather Contingency \nBecause Thibault will be traveling from the West Coast for this workshop\, we will be doing our best to hold this event. This may alter our meeting location or slightly alter the time\, depending on the weather. We will send you any updates leading up to the event! \nAbout Thibault: Born in France in 1981\, Sony Artisan of Imagery Thibault Roland is a scientist by training and fine art photographer. Each day\, we will work on concepts of Subject Development\, Exposure\, Image Composition\, Architectural Photography\, Black and White Photography\, Low Light Photography\, and Long Exposures. SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Workshop: Infrared AND Long Exposure Photography with Thibault Roland
DESCRIPTION:Please note: We have slightly altered the scope of this workshop to include BOTH Infrared and Long Exposure Photography. If you are interested in either topic\, this workshop will be suitable for you! For more info on the Long Exposure element of the workshop\, click here. \nInfrared (IR) photography is a technique that allows us to discover the world we live in under a different light\, literally. It modifies tonalities and contrasts in an image. It captures unique looking images where foliage and other forms of vegetation turn white. \nInfrared is a different approach\, one that steps away from depicting reality and allows the photographer to create their own world. \nThis workshop along the Charles River is appropriate whether you own an IR converted camera or an IR filter. \nThe goal of this workshop is to demystify infrared photography and to teach you how to create unique-looking and striking images. \nIf you own neutral density filters\, it is recommended for you to bring them as we might even mix both IR and long exposure techniques into one! \nWhat’s Included? \n• Online Introduction to Long Exposure and Infrared Techniques\, presented on Wednesday April 17th\, 7pm EDT \n• In-Person Workshop\, Sunday April 21st\, 10am-2pm \n• Online Editing with Thibault/Image Review\, Sunday May 5th\, 7pm EDT \nSony Sponsored \nThis workshop is sponsored by Sony. Canon Tech reps will also be on-site for the day! \nAbout our venue\, Olio \nOlio is a wonderfully unique space. It has an industrial feel\, with concrete walls and massive ceilings\, but it retains the warm\, wooden charm of an early-20th century vaudeville theater from which the space originates. (From their website:) “This historic space has been outfitted with every modern amenity to be the ideal space to host functions of all kinds.  We provide a non-traditional venue so that our clients have a blank slate to start from and can make the space their own. Without any décor\, the soaring ceilings and cement walls feel “industrial chic” but clients can transform the space with glitz and glam\, rustic touches\, romantic lighting\, modern lines\, whimsical details\, and vintage furniture.  If you can dream it\, it can be done at Olio.” \nOlio can be a dream to photograph in\, but it can also pose challenges from a lighting perspective. SUMMARY:Online: Multi-Session Series- Editing in Adobe Lightroom Classic Pt 2
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for our new Multi-Session Series. In each of these classes\, we will have limited attendees and provide direct feedback on images. We encourage photographers of all skill levels to consider these classes\, as they will build upon your experience and provide an excellent chance to work on your imagery!\nEditing in Adobe Lightroom\nThis is a great opportunity to build up your editing skills in Lightroom!\nAdobe Lightroom is the choice program for professionals and amateurs\, with ever-growing capabilities and options. However\, there are many levels to understanding in the program. What do we do to make basic changes? Once we learn those changes\, how can we “step it up” and figure out what to we’re supposed to do? How do we make images pop? And finally\, how do we put it all together and making finishing touches to our images.\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education for this three-week course that helps answer many of these questions. What’s most important about this course is that we will give weekly editing assignments\, and we will review those edits at the start of the following week. Often\, Lightroom users struggle with the inability to determine what changes are “good” or “correct”. While those terms are subjective\, we will help you along in the editing process to see how to make determinations along the way.\nIn week one\, we’ll talk about file types and adjustment ranges using Basic Development controls. More than anything\, we will be emphasizing global changes and understanding what can be done with an image in Lightroom. In week two\, we’ll dive into Color\, Curves\, Contrast & Clarity & Texture. These changes will help make your images pop. Finally\, in week three\, we’ll discuss advanced editing\, including Sharpening\, HDR\, Pano stitching and more.\nEach week\, we will give an assignment and students will upload their edited photos prior to the next class. We will\, by and large\, be working with your images in the class.\nThis class is strongly recommended for anyone either looking to just get started with editing\, or to fine-tune your editing skills!\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. SUMMARY:Online: The Printed Vision- Printing on Rice Paper!
DESCRIPTION:Presentation: Wednesday April 24th\, 7pm • Online! \nPrinted Image Review: Thursday May 2nd\, 6-8pm • In our Hunt’s Melrose store or Online! \nAbout The Printed Vision Series\nThe printed image shows our successes and our faults at a much higher level of detail than the digital image. To become better photographers\, it helps to understand this by creating the printed image as a final product. \nEach Printed Vision topic will meet for two sessions. In the first session\, we will discuss the topic and elaborate on editing with examples. This will include discussion of exposure\, dynamic range and color\, but also deeper points\, such as noise reduction\, image sharpening and grain. In between sessions 1 and 2\, attendees will independently process 1-2 images and submit them to the instructor for printing. We will print one of the two images leading into the second session and discuss some of the challenges we face in printing them.\nYou do not need to produce a new image for this class and can go into your archives to print\, but you are welcome to go out into the field and create something new based on the topic! \nThis Month’s Printed Vision Session: Printing on Rice Paper! \nRice paper is a style of paper that is delicate\, unique\, and tells a story! This is a fabulous style of paper that is underutilized in the printing world but can ultimately produce stellar and very different images!\nIn this class\, we will discuss the advantages (and disadvantages) to printing on rice paper in our instructional online presentation\, held on the first date\, then workshop your images in order to make a print on rice paper. We will reconvene the following week for our Printed Image Review. You will have that time period in between to edit and submit your images. In the end\, you will receive a print on Rice Paper of your edited image up to 8.5 x 11 in size. \nJoin us for this unique Printed Vision class! \nReceiving Your Print\nAfter the class\, your print can either be mailed to you or picked up at one of our Hunt’s Photo store locations. \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. We will also send a reminder email about 24 hours prior to the class time with that same information. \nYou Are Being Recorded (And Other Note Related Items)\nWe will be recording this class! The video will be available for download about 24-hours after the class for all attendees\, so don?t worry about taking unending notes.
