SUMMARY:Hunt's Portrait Workshop: Dragging the Shutter and Other Creative Lighting Portrait Effects- Hunt's Photo\, Melrose
DESCRIPTION:Educators Paul Nelson and Henry Marte lead this fun and challenging workshop that delves into dragging the shutter\, motion\, and other creative lighting effects for portraits! Dragging the Shutter is a technique used where we keep the shutter of the camera open for longer in order to create a sense of movement. It is achieved using a combination of lighting tools and can create a myriad of effects where every photo is a unique creation! We will also work on other fun creative lighting techniques and tools\, including projection mounts\, fresnels\, gobos\, and adding artificial smoke to create depth.\nYou do not need to have any prior knowledge of how to achieve these effects. \nWe will specifically be using Nanlite and Aputure LED lights and Westcott strobes\, but the concepts can apply to any lights you own. \nThis will be a fun day of portraits and not to be missed! \nAbout Henry Marte\nHenry is a published photographer and credited filmmaker. He specializes in various forms of photography\, including portrait\, events\, headshots\, drone\, and commercial photography. Other than attending MassArt’s Documentary Film School\, he is almost entirely self taught. He runs a small media production studio called Marte Media\, based out of Western Avenue Studios in Lowell. Some of his clients include Spartan Race\, UMass Lowell\, Phillips Academy\, Navigation Brewing Company\, and more. Originally from NYC\, he now calls Lowell\, Massachusetts his home. He enjoys New York style pizza\, walks with a camera\, and hiking to active volcanoes.

SUMMARY:Online: Multi-Session Series- Mastering Manual Mode (Pt 2)
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for our new Multi-Session Series. In our Multi-Session Series\, we will meet over the course of a number of weeks\, generally at the same time each week. During that time\, we will discuss a specific element of a topic and end the session by giving a photographic assignment. That assignment will be due for completion before the next class meeting\, and we will review those images at the start of the next session. If for some reason you cannot attend one of the sessions\, don’t worry! They will be recorded and you will be able to watch them at your leisure!\nOur Multi-Session Series is designed to “keep the conversation going” by engaging with our attendees in a more personal way. In each of these classes\, we will have 10-15 attendees and provide direct feedback on images. We encourage photographers of all skill levels to consider these classes\, as they will build upon your experience and provide an excellent chance to work on your imagery!\nMastering Manual Mode\nLearning about photography can be a real challenge. There are so many pieces to the puzzle of photography\, some of which use confusing terminology. For this reason\, we often start newcomers off using the Priority Modes because it’s “easier”. In reality\, these priority modes are just a short-term solution. It’s important to fully understand the “why” and “how” of your camera settings\, and learning to master manual is an excellent way to do so.\nThis Multi-Session Series will focus on Mastering Manual Mode. In week 1\, we?ll cover the technical side of aperture\, shutter\, and ISO. We?ll also discuss metering modes\, reading your meter\, and understanding histograms. In week 2\, we?ll learn to control depth of field\, focusing\, and how lens choice affects aperture choice. By week 3\, we?ll discuss how to use shutter speed effectively to either blur your motion or freeze your action. We?ll talk about shooting at night and in low light. We?ll also talk about ISO and how it controls image noise. In week 4\, we?ll put everything together by discussing dynamic range\, white balance\, and how to get the correct exposure in camera every time. We?ll also answer the most important question of all: which change should I make to achieve my desired results?\nEach week Emily will give an assignment to help further the topics covered in that week?s class. Students are encouraged to send in assignments that will be individually critiqued by Emily each week. This is a great opportunity to enhance your exposure skills while getting direct feedback on your week.\nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. We will also send a reminder email about 48 hours prior to the class time with that same information.\nLayout of the class\nThe class will begin promptly at the time listed. If for some reason you cannot attend one of the sessions\, don’t worry! They will be recorded and you will be able to watch them at your leisure! During each class\, you are welcome to type in questions in the Question box if you have specific questions as they are asked. We will do our best to answer those questions\, but if not\, feel free to ask them at the end.\n?You Are Being Recorded? (And Other Note Related Items)\nWe will be recording this class! The video will be available for download about 24-hours after the class for all attendees\, so don?t worry about taking unending notes. We will send this link attendees to download and rewatch at any time. In addition to this\, we will generally send out a PDF of the presentation (when applicable) and handouts on the topic. If handouts and PDFs are included\, we will send it out with the link for the video.\nNo online classes should be shared and cannot be shared in a public environment\, including with camera clubs\nThe online content is the copyright of Hunt’s Photo Education and/or the Instructor. Please support our education team and instructors by not sharing this material! We appreciate your support\, and it’s thanks to that support that we are able to continue producing content!

SUMMARY:Online: Multi-Session Series- Their Lens/Your Lens- The American Landscape
DESCRIPTION:Hunt’s Photo Education presents an opportunity to not only expand your creativity\, but to learn about photographers\, past and present\, in our new series “Their Lens/Your Lens”.  In these online classes\, you will have an opportunity to learn about a photographer—their background\, their time\, and their work—then create your own work based on the photographer’s style.\n\nThe layout of these sessions: We will advertise a specific topic that attendees will work on for a three month span. Attendees will NOT know the photographers prior to registering—just the general topic—which gives the attendees no preconceptions and a clean slate! We will meet in an online session for an introduction on the photographer. Then\, you will have roughly three weeks to complete work in the style of that photographer. We will then reconvene for an image review and introduction to the next photographer.\n\nSome of the best work can be created when you are given specific parameters\, working in the style of another photographer is an excellent way to not only develop your photography skills\, but also your personal style!\n\nThis Session’s Topic- The American Landscape\nThis session’s three photographers will be centered around photographing the American Landscape\, both literal\, personal and figurative.\nIn our first session\, we will have an introduction to the first photographer. Attendees will have until prior to the second session to submit their images.\nAt the second session\, we will review attendee’s work\, then present the second photographer.  Once again\, attendees will have until prior to the third session to submit images.\nAt the third session\, we will review attendee’s work and present the third photographer. Finally\, attendees will have until prior to the fourth session to submit images.\nAt the fourth session\, we will review attendee’s work and wrap up the series!\n\nAll meeting times 7pm ET unless otherwise noted.\nSession 1- April 7\nSession 2- May 6\nSession 3- June 3\nSession 4- July 1\n\n\nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. We will also send a reminder email about 48 hours prior to the class time with that same information. \nLayout of the class\nThe class will begin promptly at the time listed. If for some reason you cannot attend one of the sessions\, don’t worry! They will be recorded and you will be able to watch them at your leisure! During each class\, you are welcome to type in questions in the Question box if you have specific questions as they are asked. We will do our best to answer those questions\, but if not\, feel free to ask them at the end. \n“You Are Being Recorded” (And Other Note Related Items)\nWe will be recording this class! The video will be available for download about 24-hours after the class for all attendees\, so don’t worry about taking unending notes. We will send this link attendees to download and rewatch at any time. In addition to this\, we will generally send out a PDF of the presentation (when applicable) and handouts on the topic. If handouts and PDFs are included\, we will send it out with the link for the video. \nNo online classes should be shared and cannot be shared in a public environment\, including with camera clubs\nThe online content is the copyright of Hunt’s Photo Education and/or the Instructor. DESCRIPTION:Introduction on Printing in Black & White- Wednesday April 8th\, 6:30pm ET • Online! \nPrint Review- Wednesday April 15th\, 6:30pm ET • Hunt’s Melrose or Online! \nThe printed image shows our successes and our faults at a much higher level of detail than the digital image. To become better photographers\, it helps to understand this by creating the printed image as a final product. \nThis Month’s Printed Vision Session: Printing in Black & White! \nBlack & White printing is classic. It evokes in us certain emotions\, opinions\, senses\, and more. \nPrinting in black & white can also require more forethought. By planning out one’s shot in advance and seeing in black & white\, the photographer has more opportunity to edit in black & white with intent. That being said\, black & whites can also be produced by happy accidents\, too! \nThis class will focus on editing for print in black & white and touch upon what images to consider that will make strong monochrome images. \nThis Print Review topic will meet for two sessions. In the first session\, we will discuss the topic– some of the key differences between paper surfaces– and present a variety of options for you to have your image printed. In between sessions 1 and 2\, attendees will independently process 1-2 images and submit them to the instructor for printing. Educator Paul Nelson will produce a recorded image review\, discussing paper options\, editing suggestions\, and more\, to be sent back to you leading up to the second session. Paul will then print images for the class. In the end\, you will receive a print of one of your edited images up to 13×19″ in size. (Please note: We are happy to make a larger or additional print outside of the class for an additional fee!) \nJoin us for an informative Printed Review class! \nA Note About The Printed Review Series \nOur Print Review Monthly is a chance to continue the print conversation over the course of many months. These sessions are excellent for anyone: \n• Someone that wants a little help with editing before they get a print \n• Someone that does print but has print-related questions \n• A person that prints often and wants to try a different paper \n• Someone with no knowledge of printing that just wants to get a print! \n  \nCome check out why printing is the best thing to do for your photography! \n  \nIn-Person or Online \nThis class will be taking place in-person in our Melrose store location and online\, in case you cannot attend live. If you cannot attend live\, your print can either be mailed to you or picked up at one of our Hunt’s Photo store locations.

SUMMARY:Online: Personal Vision Series- Reflections
DESCRIPTION:Introductory Presentation Wednesday April 8th\, 7pm EST\nImage Review – Wednesday April 22nd\, 7pm EST \nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education as we help grow your knowledge\, creativity\, and artistic expression with our expanded Personal Vision Series. These classes are designed to provide you time\, opportunity\, and guidance in shaping your creative photographic voice. We will give an overview on a specific topic in an online class session\, then give you time to go into the field by yourself (or with someone else\, if you choose) to complete an assignment based on that topic. We will reconvene a few days later for an online image review to discuss elements of your images.\nThe Personal Vision Series is a crossroads of many different ideas that we offer with Hunt’s Photo Education: Topic-based instruction/classes\, Photo Walks\, & Image Reviews. However\, unlike a Photo Walk where we will all take a certain direction\, for the “Walk” portion\, you will be asked to journey out on your own to photograph. This will cause you to be the driving force of your creativity and vision!\nThis month’s topic is “A Sense of Motion”. We will have an instructional online presentation on the first date and will reconvene for our Image Review on the second date. You will have that time period in between to photograph and edit our assignment. Your personal creative voice is critical to your growth as a photographer and as an artist. Join us for to help grow that voice!

SUMMARY:Online: Multi-Session Series- Mastering Manual Mode (Pt 3)
SUMMARY:Developing Black & White Film- Hunt's Photo Waltham
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education as we discuss all the key elements of loading and developing film\, and get you to develop a roll on your own! In this workshop\, we will show you how to load film into a developing tank\, discuss the elements of the chemistry involved\, and other various aspects. Because of the many variables\, we will only be using one specific type of developer\, but we will discuss the possibilities of other developers available and their advantages. \nPlease note: This class caters to black & white film developing only! We will also have a color film developing class. All film classes can be found here. \nWe will provide tanks\, reels\, chemistry\, and basically anything that you need to develop your film. All you will need to have is a roll of film to develop. (Make sure that roll is black and white and NOT C-41 black and white\, as that cannot be developed in black and white chemistry!) \nWe will also include a free scan of your film after it has been processed! Since your film will be wet at the end of the session\, you will leave it to dry so it can be scanned. The digital scans will be sent directly to your email address.
