SUMMARY:Online: Personal Vision Series- "Minimalism" (Image Review)
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education as we help grow your knowledge\, creativity\, and artistic expression with our expanded Personal Vision Series. These classes are designed to provide you time\, opportunity\, and guidance in shaping your creative photographic voice. We will give an overview on a specific topic in an online class session\, then give you time to go into the field by yourself (or with someone else\, if you choose) to complete an assignment based on that topic. We will reconvene a few days later for an online image review to discuss elements of your images.\nThe Personal Vision Series is a crossroads of many different ideas that we offer with Hunt’s Photo Education: Topic-based instruction/classes\, Photo Walks\, & Image Reviews. However\, unlike a Photo Walk where we will all take a certain direction\, for the ?Walk? portion\, you will be asked to journey out on your own to photograph. This will cause you to be the driving force of your creativity and vision!\nThis month?s topic is “Minimalism”. We will have an instructional online presentation on the first date and will reconvene for our Image Review on the second date. You will have that time period in between to photograph and edit our assignment.\nYour personal creative voice is critical to your growth as a photographer and as an artist. Join us for to help grow that voice!

SUMMARY:Online: Multi-Session Series- Mastering Manual Mode
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for our new Multi-Session Series. In our Multi-Session Series\, we will meet over the course of a number of weeks\, generally at the same time each week. During that time\, we will discuss a specific element of a topic and end the session by giving a photographic assignment. That assignment will be due for completion before the next class meeting\, and we will review those images at the start of the next session. If for some reason you cannot attend one of the sessions\, don’t worry! They will be recorded and you will be able to watch them at your leisure!\nOur Multi-Session Series is designed to “keep the conversation going” by engaging with our attendees in a more personal way. In each of these classes\, we will have 10-15 attendees and provide direct feedback on images. We encourage photographers of all skill levels to consider these classes\, as they will build upon your experience and provide an excellent chance to work on your imagery!\nMastering Manual Mode\nLearning about photography can be a real challenge. There are so many pieces to the puzzle of photography\, some of which use confusing terminology. For this reason\, we often start newcomers off using the Priority Modes because it’s “easier”. In reality\, these priority modes are just a short-term solution. It’s important to fully understand the “why” and “how” of your camera settings\, and learning to master manual is an excellent way to do so.\nThis Multi-Session Series will focus on Mastering Manual Mode. In week 1\, we?ll cover the technical side of aperture\, shutter\, and ISO. We?ll also discuss metering modes\, reading your meter\, and understanding histograms. In week 2\, we?ll learn to control depth of field\, focusing\, and how lens choice affects aperture choice. By week 3\, we?ll discuss how to use shutter speed effectively to either blur your motion or freeze your action. We?ll talk about shooting at night and in low light. We?ll also talk about ISO and how it controls image noise. In week 4\, we?ll put everything together by discussing dynamic range\, white balance\, and how to get the correct exposure in camera every time. We?ll also answer the most important question of all: which change should I make to achieve my desired results?\nEach week Emily will give an assignment to help further the topics covered in that week?s class. Students are encouraged to send in assignments that will be individually critiqued by Emily each week. This is a great opportunity to enhance your exposure skills while getting direct feedback on your week.\nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. We will also send a reminder email about 48 hours prior to the class time with that same information.\nLayout of the class\nThe class will begin promptly at the time listed. If for some reason you cannot attend one of the sessions\, don’t worry! They will be recorded and you will be able to watch them at your leisure! During each class\, you are welcome to type in questions in the Question box if you have specific questions as they are asked. We will do our best to answer those questions\, but if not\, feel free to ask them at the end.\n?You Are Being Recorded? (And Other Note Related Items)\nWe will be recording this class! The video will be available for download about 24-hours after the class for all attendees\, so don?t worry about taking unending notes. We will send this link attendees to download and rewatch at any time. In addition to this\, we will generally send out a PDF of the presentation (when applicable) and handouts on the topic. If handouts and PDFs are included\, we will send it out with the link for the video.\nNo online classes should be shared and cannot be shared in a public environment\, including with camera clubs\nThe online content is the copyright of Hunt’s Photo Education and/or the Instructor. Please support our education team and instructors by not sharing this material! We appreciate your support\, and it’s thanks to that support that we are able to continue producing content!

SUMMARY:Online: Multi-Session Series- Editing in Adobe Lightroom Classic Pt 2
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for our new Multi-Session Series. In our Multi-Session Series\, we will meet over the course of a number of weeks\, generally at the same time each week. During that time\, we will discuss a specific element of a topic and end the session by giving a photographic assignment. They will be recorded and you will be able to watch them at your leisure!\nOur Multi-Session Series is designed to “keep the conversation going” by engaging with our attendees in a more personal way. In each of these classes\, we will have limited attendees and provide direct feedback on images. We encourage photographers of all skill levels to consider these classes\, as they will build upon your experience and provide an excellent chance to work on your imagery!\nEditing in Adobe Lightroom\nThis is a great opportunity to build up your editing skills in Lightroom!\nAdobe Lightroom is the choice program for professionals and amateurs\, with ever-growing capabilities and options. However\, there are many levels to understanding in the program. What do we do to make basic changes? Once we learn those changes\, how can we “step it up” and figure out what to we’re supposed to do? How do we make images pop? And finally\, how do we put it all together and making finishing touches to our images.\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education for this three-week course that helps answer many of these questions. What’s most important about this course is that we will give weekly editing assignments\, and we will review those edits at the start of the following week. Often\, Lightroom users struggle with the inability to determine what changes are “good” or “correct”. While those terms are subjective\, we will help you along in the editing process to see how to make determinations along the way.\nIn week one\, we’ll talk about file types and adjustment ranges using Basic Development controls. More than anything\, we will be emphasizing global changes and understanding what can be done with an image in Lightroom. In week two\, we’ll dive into Color\, Curves\, Contrast & Clarity & Texture. These changes will help make your images pop. Finally\, in week three\, we’ll discuss advanced editing\, including Sharpening\, HDR\, Pano stitching and more.\nEach week\, we will give an assignment and students will upload their edited photos prior to the next class. We will\, by and large\, be working with your images in the class.\nThis class is strongly recommended for anyone either looking to just get started with editing\, or to fine-tune your editing skills!\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. We will also send a reminder email about 24 hours prior to the class time with that same information.\nLayout of the class\nThe class will begin promptly at the time listed. SUMMARY:Hunt's Printed Vision Workshop: Creating Cyanotypes- Hunt's Photo\, Providence
DESCRIPTION:Intro: Thursday\, March 9th\, 7-8pm ? Online! \nWorkshop: Sunday March 12th\, 10am-2pm ? Hunt’s Photo\, Providence \nNormally we will say\, “The printed image shows our successes and our faults.” In this case\, the point of the printed image isn’t necessarily to show us those successes and faults\, but instead to create something ethereal and fascinating!\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education as we dive into a workshop that will quite literally bring you back to the days of film and hand-printing!\nCyanotypes are quite literally BLUE prints that can be simply made by placing a negative on top of a piece of coated paper (or other material) under UV light (or the sun) for a period of time. Once washed in water\, the resulting print produces a brilliant blue image on a white background.\nWe will begin this workshop with an introductory presentation where we will discuss the process\, materials needed\, and the preparation to be working with the cyanotype chemistry (see Misc notes above). We will also discuss how to create a digital negative. For this workshop\, we will be creating our own digital negatives from an inkjet printer\, so you don’t actually need a negative and you don’t need a printer\, as we will be printing them in the store. Finally\, we will also discuss what to print on. Because we will have the ability to coat a material\, be it paper or fabric\, you can use a variety of printing surfaces\, which will elaborate on.\nPlease note: We have recorded this introduction\, so if you’re signing up last minute\, you can still watch it!\nDuring the workshop\, we will dive into all these elements. We will go through the process of coating (and drying) papers and fabrics\, creating test and final prints\, and discussing additional elements to change the look of our final prints. This is a unique workshop that will emphasize creativity and process.\nA few items of note:\n?In this workshop\, we will be utilizing cyanotype chemistry\, consisting of ferric ammonium citrate (for light sensitivity) and potassium ferricyanide (for color). As described by the chemistry company Photographers Formulary\, “…[Potassium Ferricyanide] is not particularly toxic… [unless] placed in a strong acid solution; however\, strong acid is not used in the cyanotype process.”\n?Because we will be working with chemistry\, you must follow all instructions given regarding chemistry and personal protective equipment.\n?Because this chemistry can stain\, we will be taking precautions and wearing gloves. We strongly recommend bringing an apron\, one that you won’t mind if it changes colors.

SUMMARY:Hunt's Street Photography Walk: Chinatown in the Morning
DESCRIPTION:For this workshop\, we will be working on Street Photography in Chinatown and Downtown Crossing. Chinatown and Downtown Crossing (and areas in between) are easily recognizable areas in downtown Boston. Boston’s Chinatown is quite small in size\, but has many unique sites and is the last remaining historic Chinese area in New England. Downtown Crossing is home to street vendors and a myriad number of shopping establishments. Sandwiched in between is the Theater District of Boston. All three provide excellent opportunities to photograph the unique architecture and people of the area.\nThis walk is a terrific opportunity to work on street and candid photography\, with plenty of subject matter. We will discuss managing ISO and shutter speed in low-light conditions to never miss a shot\, as well as the art of blending in and going unnoticed.\nWe will also try to get it all right in camera! While you are welcome to shoot in RAW\, we’ll also discuss the joy of shooting for the end result in JPEG! Join us for a fun walk!!

DESCRIPTION:Thursdays March 2nd & 9th\, 7pm EST \nPart 1 of this class has already occurred\, but if you sign up\, you’ll receive a link to watch Part 1\, and you can attend part 2 live (or watch the recording later)!\nHunt’s Photo Education welcomes photographer Jackie Kramer\, who will demonstrate how she uses tools in Adobe Lightroom to reveal the hidden magic in her images. She will go over how she determines what features to highlight in her subjects – light\, colors\, shapes\, etc. And then will show how she applies global and local adjustments to bring those elements to life. Jackie will examine possibilities such as converting to black and white and adding color creatively using color grading\, masking features\, and the tone curve. Jackie will also explore areas such as how to address minor distractions in Lightroom and how to recompose\, when possible\, using the crop tool.\nYou will be given an assignment and the second part of the class will consist of a review in which Jackie will further the discussion and offer tips on how to refine your work. You will leave with a newfound desire to explore the tools in Lightroom and apply them to your own image in ways that are uniquely yours!\nAbout Jackie Kramer: Jackie has been photographing the natural world\, with an emphasis on flowers since high school. Jackie is a Lensbaby Ambassador and KelbyOne instructor who has received international acclaim for her images. Her work has been published in magazines\, such as Photoshop User\, Portfolio\, LensWork\, The Photographer Magazine\, and on the cover of NANPA Expressions.\nJackie’s true passion is to encourage people to live their legacy\, which she does primarily through her Facebook group\, Phlorography – Artistic Floral Photography\, with passionate floral photographers from around the world. SUMMARY:Video Basics- Hunt's Photo\, Providence
DESCRIPTION:Course Description\nPhotographers everywhere love that digital cameras have the capability of creating ?videos?. But what important settings are there? How can I take full advantage of my camera that has 4K 60fps\, and what am I even saying when I say those words??? I just want to make a great video- what do I need to know?!\nWell\, fret no more! Video Basics is geared for photographers that want to use their camera for occasional videos! This is the class that is going to give you insight into the basic settings and why to set them; how to take full advantage of the best qualities of your camera\, and leaves a lot of the higher-end technical stuff out of the picture.\nIn this jam-packed course\, we?ll cover basic camera settings (some of which you?re used to from still photography); basic menu settings such as frame rates\, resolution\, and codecs; framing\, composition\, and cinematography basics. The goal of this course is to send you on your way much more confident about how to set up your next video.\nA clear difference:?This class is not necessarily geared toward someone that is looking to branch into filmmaking (though it couldn?t hurt). This class is geared towards the photographer that wants to make casual videos. If you are a still photographer looking to branch into video to enhance your portfolio\, our Intro to Filmmaking class is a more advanced and challenging class that will dig deeper into many of these concepts. But hey\, you can always take both classes!

SUMMARY:Online: Multi-Session Series- Editing in Adobe Lightroom Classic
In week two\, we’ll dive into Color\, Curves\, Contrast & Clarity & Texture and begin to discuss a variety of masking techniques. If for some reason you cannot attend one of the sessions\, don’t worry! They will be recorded and you will be able to watch them at your leisure!
