DESCRIPTION:In a continuation of our Digital Photography Basics 1 class\, this course continues by discussing more very important elements\, including how to get better results with focusing\, depth of field\, photographing in RAW vs JPEG and more! This course offers an excellent opportunity to continue learning about the many elements of Digital Photography! \nJoin us as we continue learning about Digital Photography! \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. We will also send a reminder email about 48 hours prior to the class time with that same information. \nLayout of the class\nThe class will begin promptly at the time listed. The majority of the class–roughly 1 hour– will be a presentation on the topic\, followed by a short Q&A. A 7-mile stretch of land\, there are many unique and picturesque locations along the coast\, as well as wonderful seaside shops. Join Hunt’s Photo Education on a late afternoon/sunset walk of Old Orchard Beach where our emphasis will be creating long exposure images of the shoreline and more! On the walk\, we will discuss numerous aspects involving sunset\, including exposure\, composition\, and how to capture the vibrancy of the scene during sunset. There is so much to photograph there and a wonderful variety of subject matter\, including textures\, angles\, and compositions that can lead to some truly excellent photographs. SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Walk: An Evening at Simon Pearce\, Quechee
DESCRIPTION:Join Emily Hojnowski as we photograph at Simon Pearce in Quechee\, VT. \nSimon Pearce is a glassblowing workshop powered by the Ottauquechee\, as well as a retail store and farm-to-table restaurant in Quechee\, Vermont. We’ll start the workshop by photographing the glassblowers at work\, getting details and abstract shots of the pieces of art in the showroom. Then\, we’ll head outside to work on landscapes and long exposures of the covered bridge and the falls using ND filters and CPL filters until it gets dark.  (Please note- despite ice and snow pictured in our long exposure shot above\, there should not be any ice at this time of year!) This is an excellent chance to use filters for the first time or the hundredth time. During this time\, we’ll discuss exposure and composition for our various subjects in the changing light.

DESCRIPTION:Please note: This course does not cover file management or importing images into the program. To learn how to do that\, check out our Lightroom File Management courses. \nThis is a great opportunity to build up your editing skills in Lightroom!\nAdobe Lightroom is the choice program for professionals and amateurs\, with ever-growing capabilities and options. However\, there are many levels to understanding in the program. What do we do to make basic changes? Once we learn those changes\, how can we “step it up” and figure out what to we’re supposed to do? How do we make images pop? And finally\, how do we put it all together and making finishing touches to our images.\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education for a course that helps answer many of these questions. Often\, Lightroom users struggle with the inability to determine what changes are “good” or “correct”. While those terms are subjective\, we will help you along in the editing process to see how to make determinations along the way.\nThis is a Multi-Session Class! In Week 1\, we’ll start with the basic adjustments using Basic Development controls. More than anything\, we will be emphasizing global changes and understanding what can be done with an image in Lightroom. We’ll then dive into Color\, Curves\, Contrast & Clarity & Texture. These changes will help make your images pop. In Week 2\, we’ll discuss advanced editing\, including local adjustments\, such as radial and graduated filters\, and how to “finish” the image- sharpening\, noise reduction\, and more.\nIn-between each session\, we will give assignments to help you become more proficient and grasp the material! This class is strongly recommended for anyone looking to further their skills with Lightroom! \n \nAn important note about this course! There are now a few different versions of Adobe Lightroom right now.This course is specifically on Adobe Lightroom Classic. The other version of Lightroom\, commonly known as “Adobe Lightroom CC” (yes\, we understand you may be confused by this) is a more mobile and cloud-based program. The look and feel of the program is completely different– This course is specifically on Adobe Lightroom Classic. (See graphic on the right.) However\, there are many levels to understanding in the program. What do we do to make basic changes? Once we learn those changes\, how can we “step it up” and figure out what to we’re supposed to do? How do we make images pop? And finally\, how do we put it all together and making finishing touches to our images.\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education for this three-week course that helps answer many of these questions. What’s most important about this course is that we will give weekly editing assignments\, and we will review those edits at the start of the following week. Often\, Lightroom users struggle with the inability to determine what changes are “good” or “correct”. While those terms are subjective\, we will help you along in the editing process to see how to make determinations along the way.\nIn week one\, we’ll talk about file types and adjustment ranges using Basic Development controls. DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education as we discuss all the key elements of loading and developing film\, and get you to develop a roll on your own! In this workshop\, we will show you how to load film into a developing tank\, discuss the elements of the chemistry involved\, and other various aspects. Because of the many variables\, we will only be using one specific type of developer\, but we will discuss the possibilities of other developers available and their advantages. \nPlease note: This class caters to color/C-41 type film developing only! We will also have a black and white film developing class. All film classes can be found here. \nWe will provide tanks\, reels\, chemistry\, and basically anything that you need to develop your film. All you will need to have is a roll of film to develop. \nWe will also include a free scan of your film after it has been processed! Since your film will be wet at the end of the session\, you will leave it to dry so it can be scanned. The digital scans will be sent directly to your email address. To become better photographers\, it helps to understand this by creating the printed image as a final product. \nThis Month’s Printed Vision Session: Printing in Black & White! \nBlack & White printing is classic. It evokes in us certain emotions\, opinions\, senses\, and more. \nPrinting in black & white can also require more forethought. By planning out one’s shot in advance and seeing in black & white\, the photographer has more opportunity to edit in black & white with intent. That being said\, black & whites can also be produced by happy accidents\, too! \nThis class will focus on editing for print in black & white and touch upon what images to consider that will make strong monochrome images. \nThis Print Review topic will meet for two sessions. In the first session\, we will discuss the topic– some of the key differences between paper surfaces– and present a variety of options for you to have your image printed. In between sessions 1 and 2\, attendees will independently process 1-2 images and submit them to the instructor for printing. Educator Paul Nelson will produce a recorded image review\, discussing paper options\, editing suggestions\, and more\, to be sent back to you leading up to the second session. Paul will then print images for the class. In the end\, you will receive a print of one of your edited images up to 13×19″ in size. DESCRIPTION:The 25th Anniversary Cruisin’ Downtown takes place in Manchester\, NH and is promoted as New England’s largest classic car show! The show shuts down Elm St for most of Saturday\, allowing spectators to explore the hundreds and hundreds of classic cars. We’ll arrive early in the day as cars are setting up and before crowds have gotten too thick to allow us the best access to all the compositions we desire. This is also an excellent opportunity to practice street photography and use a CPL filter. Travel light and have fun!

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Adventure: Navajo Nation
DESCRIPTION:Workshop Description \nThe Hunt’s Photo Adventure: Navajo Nation is a six-day immersive workshop based in Mexican Hat\, Utah\, designed to explore the dramatic landscapes of the Navajo Nation and surrounding regions. \nThis workshop is intentionally scheduled around the rare Mitten Shadow event in Monument Valley\, which occurs only twice a year when the sun aligns precisely to cast a dramatic\, defined shadow across the iconic Mitten formations. This natural phenomenon serves as a centerpiece of the workshop and a key photographic objective. \nUsing Mexican Hat as our base\, we’ll access a diverse range of locations including Monument Valley\, Valley of the Gods\, Goosenecks State Park\, Moki Dugway\, and surrounding backcountry areas. The workshop is structured around the best available light\, with sunrise and sunset sessions planned in key locations and a dedicated night photography experience under dark skies. \nA highlight of this workshop is special access with Navajo guides\, including a dedicated night sky astrophotography session on Navajo land during a new moon for the darkest skies possible\, as well as a guided sunrise photography experience in Monument Valley\, providing unique access and perspective in one of the most iconic landscapes in the world. \nWhile a structured itinerary is provided\, this workshop is intentionally flexible. The San Juan Inn (435.683.2220)\, Mexican Hat\, Utah\, will serve as our base for the duration of the workshop. Hunt’s Photo has reserved a block of rooms for participants. Each attendee is responsible for calling the hotel directly to reserve and pay for their room. Be sure to mention “Hunt’s Photo Group” when booking. \nAbout Weather \nWeather can range from a low of 45°  at night to a high of 70° F during the day. There will be a slight chance of rain during our workshop. \nImportant things to keep in mind:\n•Bring clothing suited for a variety of temperatures\, from cold mornings to warm afternoons. Also be prepared for potential rain and for changing weather. \nPayments\nA deposit of 25% of the total cost of the trip is required upon sign-up to secure a spot. I was really impressed with the whole experience. Great instructors!!?\n?Everything was condensed and taught at a basic level which helped with the confusion I had before coming to class. Bottom Line: Great class for confused beginners.?\n?Everything about this class was excellent. The instructors were patient and took time to answer every question thoroughly and we were given ample time to try out the techniques we were being shown. All in all\, a wonderful experience.?\n?Very much liked the instructors- knowledgeable\, entertaining\, encouraging\, not judgmental. DESCRIPTION:In a continuation of our Digital Photography Basics 1 class\, this course continues by discussing more very important elements\, including how to get better results with focusing\, depth of field\, photographing in RAW vs JPEG and more! This course offers an excellent opportunity to continue learning about the many elements of Digital Photography! \nJoin us as we continue learning about Digital Photography! \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. We will also send a reminder email about 48 hours prior to the class time with that same information. \nLayout of the class\nThe class will begin promptly at the time listed. The majority of the class–roughly 1 hour– will be a presentation on the topic\, followed by a short Q&A. During the class\, you are welcome to type in questions in the Chat box if you have specific questions as they are asked. The museum has a collection of vehicles that show how public transportation has changed through the years. On this workshop we will discuss subject development\, composition\, exposure\, circular polarizers\, fine art photography\, and more! \nWe will also photograph with an emphasis on Wabi-sabi. Wabi-sabi is a Japanese concept that centers around beauty in imperfection and the acceptance of transience. In photography\, we can use this aesthetic to find and compose unique and interesting subjects. The Seashore Trolley Museum has a plethora of aged and imperfect subjects for us to work with.  Join us for this fun-filled and unique walk!

And while we also offer other wonderful Beginner Photography classes to get you started\, nothing is truly the same as hands-on in-the-field! It’s important to fully understand the why and how of your camera settings.\nIn this outdoor\, hands-on class\, you’ll learn all about the basics of photography. We will discuss Exposure (how light works with the camera)\, the Big Three Settings (Aperture\, Shutter Speed\, & ISO)\, how they affect your picture and how to set them\, and what mode to set it to on your camera! We’ll discuss changing depth-of-field (controlling what?s in focus in the background)\, stopping or blurring the action in your scene\, and many other basic picture-taking techniques. This will be an excellent opportunity to learn about your camera in a fun and safe environment! Dorrs Pond is a recreational area with a gorgeous nature trail that leads around the pond with lots of birds! DESCRIPTION:After learning “the basics” of digital photography\, become more comfortable in the world of digital photography by taking the next step.\nLearning about photography can be a real challenge! For this reason\, we often start newcomers off using the “Priority Modes” (Ex. Aperture Priority) because it’s “easier”. In reality\, these priority modes are just one solution. For some photographers\, there is only the manual mode. But why is it important to shoot in the Manual mode? Are there reasons to use manual vs. Aperture priority and vice-versa? How can we maximize usability?\nIn this class\, we will cover:\n• Your Camera’s Light Meter and how it works\n• Use of Aperture Priority vs. Manual modes\n• Histograms\n• Photographing in RAW vs. Jpeg\nUnderstanding the full-functionality of your camera is a necessity to improving your flexibility when photographing in a variety of situations. This course is designed to help you feel more comfortable about how to change your camera’s settings in those situations. It is recommended as a follow-up to our Beginner Photography course.

SUMMARY:Hunt's Portrait Workshop: Media Day and Action Sports Portraits
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for another entry in our series of portrait workshops where we will be creating dynamic lighting scenarios involving athletes\, recreating Media Day! Media Day portraits have become increasingly popular in the sporting world\, from the start of the sporting season to major sporting events and more. Media Day photos are used for promotional imagery to showcase the aura of the athlete. Media Day is essential in almost every high school and college. \nIn this workshop\, we will be posing athletes and creating lighting scenarios that all photographers can use as part of their arsenal when creating Media Day portraits. This is an excellent portfolio-building workshop!  We will work both indoors and outside. For indoors\, we will emphasize the use LED lighting\, including Nanlite and Aputure lighting\, as well as other elements that help build the atmosphere of your images! For outdoors\, we will use a combination of natural light and strobes to create the ultimate outdoor look! \nThis workshop will be co-taught by Hunt’s Photo Educator Paul Nelson and professional photographer Henry Marte. Both have extensive portrait experience and will take you through the full process of lighting a subject\, how to properly expose while using strobes\, and how to actually use the strobes themselves! \nPhotographers of all skill levels are encouraged to attend. \nAbout Henry Marte\nHenry is a published photographer and credited filmmaker. He specializes in various forms of photography\, including portrait\, events\, headshots\, drone\, and commercial photography. Other than attending MassArt’s Documentary Film School\, he is almost entirely self taught. He runs a small media production studio called Marte Media\, based out of Western Avenue Studios in Lowell. Some of his clients include Spartan Race\, UMass Lowell\, Phillips Academy\, Navigation Brewing Company\, and more. Originally from NYC\, he now calls Lowell\, Massachusetts his home. He enjoys New York style pizza\, walks with a camera\, and hiking to active volcanoes.
