And while we also offer other wonderful Beginner Photography classes to get you started\, nothing is truly the same as hands-on in-the-field! It’s important to fully understand the “why” and “how” of your camera settings.\nIn this outdoor\, hands-on class\, you’ll learn all about the basics of photography. We will discuss Exposure (how light works with the camera)\, the Big Three Settings (Aperture\, Shutter Speed\, & ISO)\, how they affect your picture and how to set them\, and what mode to set it to on your camera! We’ll discuss changing depth-of-field (controlling what’s in focus in the background)\, stopping or blurring the action in your scene\, and many other basic picture-taking techniques. This will be an excellent opportunity to learn about your camera in a fun and safe environment! Join us to strengthen your photographic knowledge!\nIn this session of Beginner Photography in the Field…\n…we will be going to the Roger Williams Park in Providence. The Roger Williams Park is a massive area of greenery and beauty in Providence with a Rose Garden\, Japanese Garden\, beautifully constructed buildings\, such as the gazebo\, peaceful waterways\, quaint bridges\, and so much more! There is so much to photograph there and a wonderful variety of subject matter\, including textures\, angles\, and compositions that can lead to some truly excellent photographs. It’s the perfect place to learn about photography! Bring your camera and your enthusiasm to learn all about photography in a hands-on\, real-life environment!

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Walk: An Evening at Simon Pearce\, Quechee
DESCRIPTION:Join Emily Hojnowski as we photograph at Simon Pearce in Quechee\, VT. \nSimon Pearce is a glassblowing workshop powered by the Ottauquechee\, as well as a retail store and farm-to-table restaurant in Quechee\, Vermont. We’ll start the workshop by photographing the glassblowers at work\, getting details and abstract shots of the pieces of art in the showroom. Then\, we’ll head outside to work on landscapes and long exposures of the covered bridge and the falls using ND filters and CPL filters until it gets dark.  (Please note- despite ice and snow pictured in our long exposure shot above\, there should not be any ice at this time of year!) This is an excellent chance to use filters for the first time or the hundredth time. During this time\, we’ll discuss exposure and composition for our various subjects in the changing light.

However\, there are many levels to understanding in the program. What do we do to make basic changes? Once we learn those changes\, how can we “step it up” and figure out what to we’re supposed to do? How do we make images pop? And finally\, how do we put it all together and making finishing touches to our images.\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education for a course that helps answer many of these questions. Often\, Lightroom users struggle with the inability to determine what changes are “good” or “correct”. While those terms are subjective\, we will help you along in the editing process to see how to make determinations along the way.\nThis is a Multi-Session Class! DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for our new Multi-Session Series. In our Multi-Session Series\, we will meet over the course of a number of weeks\, generally at the same time each week. Bottom Line: Great class for confused beginners.?\n?Everything about this class was excellent. The instructors were patient and took time to answer every question thoroughly and we were given ample time to try out the techniques we were being shown. All in all\, a wonderful experience.?\n?Very much liked the instructors- knowledgeable\, entertaining\, encouraging\, not judgmental. SUMMARY:Developing Color Film- Hunt's Photo Waltham
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education as we discuss all the key elements of loading and developing film\, and get you to develop a roll on your own! In this workshop\, we will show you how to load film into a developing tank\, discuss the elements of the chemistry involved\, and other various aspects. Because of the many variables\, we will only be using one specific type of developer\, but we will discuss the possibilities of other developers available and their advantages. \nPlease note: This class caters to color/C-41 type film developing only! We will also have a black and white film developing class. All film classes can be found here. \nWe will provide tanks\, reels\, chemistry\, and basically anything that you need to develop your film. All you will need to have is a roll of film to develop. \nWe will also include a free scan of your film after it has been processed! Since your film will be wet at the end of the session\, you will leave it to dry so it can be scanned. The digital scans will be sent directly to your email address. If you would like the negatives to be shipped to another store for pickup\, we can gladly do that!

DESCRIPTION:Introduction on Printing in Black & White- Wednesday August 26th\, 6:30pm ET • Online! \nPrint Review- Wednesday September 2nd\, 6:30pm ET • Hunt’s Melrose or Online! \nThe printed image shows our successes and our faults at a much higher level of detail than the digital image. To become better photographers\, it helps to understand this by creating the printed image as a final product. \nThis Month’s Printed Vision Session: Printing in Black & White! \nBlack & White printing is classic. It evokes in us certain emotions\, opinions\, senses\, and more. \nPrinting in black & white can also require more forethought. By planning out one’s shot in advance and seeing in black & white\, the photographer has more opportunity to edit in black & white with intent. That being said\, black & whites can also be produced by happy accidents\, too! \nThis class will focus on editing for print in black & white and touch upon what images to consider that will make strong monochrome images. \nThis Print Review topic will meet for two sessions. In the first session\, we will discuss the topic– some of the key differences between paper surfaces– and present a variety of options for you to have your image printed. In between sessions 1 and 2\, attendees will independently process 1-2 images and submit them to the instructor for printing. Educator Paul Nelson will produce a recorded image review\, discussing paper options\, editing suggestions\, and more\, to be sent back to you leading up to the second session. Paul will then print images for the class. In the end\, you will receive a print of one of your edited images up to 13×19″ in size. (Please note: We are happy to make a larger or additional print outside of the class for an additional fee!) \nJoin us for an informative Printed Review class! \nA Note About The Printed Review Series \nOur Print Review Monthly is a chance to continue the print conversation over the course of many months. We’ll discuss changing depth-of-field (controlling what’s in focus in the background\, stopping or blurring the action in your scene\, and many other basic picture-taking techniques. DESCRIPTION:Workshop Description \nThe Hunt’s Photo Adventure: Navajo Nation is a six-day immersive workshop based in Mexican Hat\, Utah\, designed to explore the dramatic landscapes of the Navajo Nation and surrounding regions. \nThis workshop is intentionally scheduled around the rare Mitten Shadow event in Monument Valley\, which occurs only twice a year when the sun aligns precisely to cast a dramatic\, defined shadow across the iconic Mitten formations. This natural phenomenon serves as a centerpiece of the workshop and a key photographic objective. \nUsing Mexican Hat as our base\, we’ll access a diverse range of locations including Monument Valley\, Valley of the Gods\, Goosenecks State Park\, Moki Dugway\, and surrounding backcountry areas. The workshop is structured around the best available light\, with sunrise and sunset sessions planned in key locations and a dedicated night photography experience under dark skies. \nA highlight of this workshop is special access with Navajo guides\, including a dedicated night sky astrophotography session on Navajo land during a new moon for the darkest skies possible\, as well as a guided sunrise photography experience in Monument Valley\, providing unique access and perspective in one of the most iconic landscapes in the world. \nWhile a structured itinerary is provided\, this workshop is intentionally flexible. DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for another entry in our series of portrait workshops where we will be creating dynamic lighting scenarios involving athletes\, recreating Media Day! Media Day portraits have become increasingly popular in the sporting world\, from the start of the sporting season to major sporting events and more. Media Day photos are used for promotional imagery to showcase the aura of the athlete. Media Day is essential in almost every high school and college. \nIn this workshop\, we will be posing athletes and creating lighting scenarios that all photographers can use as part of their arsenal when creating Media Day portraits. This is an excellent portfolio-building workshop!  We will work both indoors and outside. For indoors\, we will emphasize the use LED lighting\, including Nanlite and Aputure lighting\, as well as other elements that help build the atmosphere of your images! For outdoors\, we will use a combination of natural light and strobes to create the ultimate outdoor look! \nThis workshop will be co-taught by Hunt’s Photo Educator Paul Nelson and professional photographer Henry Marte. Both have extensive portrait experience and will take you through the full process of lighting a subject\, how to properly expose while using strobes\, and how to actually use the strobes themselves! \nPhotographers of all skill levels are encouraged to attend. \nAbout Henry Marte\nHenry is a published photographer and credited filmmaker. He specializes in various forms of photography\, including portrait\, events\, headshots\, drone\, and commercial photography. Other than attending MassArt’s Documentary Film School\, he is almost entirely self taught. He runs a small media production studio called Marte Media\, based out of Western Avenue Studios in Lowell. Some of his clients include Spartan Race\, UMass Lowell\, Phillips Academy\, Navigation Brewing Company\, and more. Originally from NYC\, he now calls Lowell\, Massachusetts his home. He enjoys New York style pizza\, walks with a camera\, and hiking to active volcanoes.

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Walk: Canterbury Shaker Village
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for a photo walk at the historic Canterbury Shaker Village.\nShakers were a religious group formed in England in the 1700s from a variety of religions\, including English Quakers and Methodists. (Shakers were named based on their ecstatic dance\, initially known as “Shaking Quakers”.) Shaker communities sprouted throughout Northeastern Colonial America\, eventually heading westward. Due to the celibate nature of the communities\, the Shaker communities dwindled into the 20th century\, including the Canterbury Shaker Village\, whose last surviving members died in the early 1990s. Founded in 1965\, the Canterbury Shaker Village preserves the heritage of the Canterbury Shaker Community from the past two centuries. The settlement is complete with original Shaker buildings\, as well as the surrounding area of forests\, fields\, gardens\, nature trails\, and mill ponds.\nOn this walk\, we will photograph the outside buildings of this historic sect’s wholly simple (and simply holy) lives. We will attempt to tell the story of the Shakers through what they left behind. This will include an emphasis on Composition and discussing Black & White\, architecture\, and close-up photography. Come photograph a fascinating historical lifestyle! Photographers of all skill levels are encouraged to attend!

DESCRIPTION:Hunt’s Photo Education Presents…The Weekend Workshops: A long weekend featuring education seminars\, photo walks and workshops\, image reviews\, editing\, and fine art printing\, all in glorious black and white. \nDuring the weekend\, each attendee will have the opportunity to attend four Photo Walks/Workshops. We will have an introductory meet and greet and presentation on the first evening that will set the tone and expectations for the weekend\, as well as allow attendees to mingle with other attendees. On days 2 and 3\, our instructors will conduct one Photo Walk in the mid/late morning and one Photo Walk in the evening. They will repeat the same schedule on Friday and Saturday. (So\, if you attend a Photo Walk with Instructor A on Friday morning\, you’ll have the ability to attend a different Photo Walk with Instructor B on Saturday morning.)\nDuring the middle part of Friday and Saturday\, we will have image reviews\, image processing\, and have general photography discussions. You are welcome to attend these\, or you can take a break\, if needed! \nOn Day 4\, we will print and review selected images from all attendees. You are welcome to take these images with you after the workshop! \nThis year will be centered out of our Hunt’s Photo Melrose store location. Our Melrose store has a large classroom area which will be excellent for our editing and review sessions! DESCRIPTION:Autumn in Yellowstone National Park provides every photographer ample opportunity to capture images showcasing the breathtaking scenery\, inspiring nature\, and dramatic wildlife.  Photographers will be inspired by the autumn colors\, the drama of the seasonal rut\, a variety of wildlife\, and a diverse palette of nature scenes.  Each day\, based on weather\, light\, and activity\, we will explore the park for wildlife such as Elk\, Bears\, Bison\, and Great Grey Owls.  Landscape and nature opportunities will include the beauty of Lamar and Hayden Valleys\, geyser basins\, waterfalls\, autumn trees\, and historic rivers.  Yellowstone in autumn is not to be missed! \nItinerary \nOct 2 arrival to Bozeman.   We will have a group dinner to discuss plans for the week and discuss safety and protocol. Stay at Best Western in Bozeman\, MT. \nOct 3 – 7am start.  Attendees will meet in the lobby at 7am with bags and gear.  Our guide Adam Brubaker will drive us to West Yellowstone where we will stay for the week. Please see note below about weather. \nWeather and Weather Gear  \nA Note About Weather (and weather gear)  \nWhat to Expect  \nDuring October 2–13\, the average daily temperatures in Provence and the Camargue typically range from the 50s–60s °F (10s–20s °C). Expect:  \n\nPleasant afternoons are perfect for exploring and photographing. \n\n\nCooler mornings and evenings\, especially near the marshes and open landscapes. \n\n\nMild winds in some areas\, particularly around coastal and marsh regions. \n\n\nStunning natural light — October often brings soft\, golden light ideal for photography. \n\n\nSeasonal colors in vineyards\, historic villages\, and wildlife habitats. \n\n  \nRecommended gear: \nTo make the most of your workshop and stay comfortable\, consider bringing:  \nClothing:  \n\nLayered clothing for fluctuating temperatures (light sweaters\, long sleeves\, jackets). \n\n\nA windproof and waterproof jacket for cooler mornings and potential light rain. \n\n\nComfortable walking shoes or hiking boots for village streets\, marshes\, and uneven terrain. \n\n\nHat and sunglasses for sun protection. \n\n\nOptional: lightweight gloves and scarf for crisp mornings. \n\nPhotography Gear:  \n\nCamera(s) with multiple lenses (wide-angle for landscapes\, telephoto for wildlife). \n\n\nTripod for low-light and sunset/sunrise shots. (Optional) \n\n\nExtra batteries and memory cards. \n\n\nLens cleaning kit (dust and marsh conditions). \n\n\nA camera bag comfortable for day excursions. \n\n\nRoller camera bags or backpacks for travel are fine for this trip. \n\nLaptops & Image Management  \n\nWhile laptops are optional\, many participants find them helpful for: \n\n\nReviewing images daily to check composition\, exposure\, and focus. \n\n\nParticipating in critiques with the instructor and peers. \n\n\nBacking up and organizing files during the workshop to ensure nothing is lost. \n\nTips  \n\nBring a lightweight laptop if possible\, to avoid heavy loads while traveling. \n\n\nInclude your charging cables and any necessary adapters for France (European plug type C/E/F). \n\n\nConsider using portable external drives or cloud storage for additional backup. \n\n\nIf you choose not to bring a laptop\, a memory card organizer and backup cards will suffice for image storage. \n\n  \nOther Essentials:  \n\nReusable water bottle. \n\n\nNotebook or journal for notes and inspiration. \n\n\nSmall backpack or daypack for daily outings. \n\n  \nLuggage:   \n\nSoft-sided luggage with wheels is strongly recommended. These are easier to fit in the vans and allow flexibility for tight spaces. \n\n\nDuffel bags are good as well. \n\n\nConsider stair access at hotels or historic accommodations — if you anticipate needing to carry your luggage up a flight of stairs\, pack only what you can comfortably manage. (We will be there to help\, but please consider) \n\nTravel information\nYou need to fly into Marseille Provence Airport (MRS). There will be a bulk pickup of attendees at the airport. If you choose to arrive earlier or stay later\, you will need to make your own arrangements for transportation into Provence. \nHotel information\nAll hotels have been secured for you during the workshop. Due to the sensitive nature of this workshop and the difficulty of securing accommodations\, we will not be detailing our itinerary or accommodations to anyone who is not attending this workshop.  All accommodations in Camargue and Provence are 3-star hotels. \nPayments\nA non-refundable reservation fee of $2000 (25%) is required upon sign-up to secure a spot.
