SUMMARY:Hunt's Portrait Workshop: Posing for Couples
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Educator and Professional Wedding and Portrait Photographer Rebecca Wade for another entry in our series of portrait workshops where we will be emphasizing posing couples! This class is designed for photographers who want to learn how to pose couples\, and put their subjects at ease. For this workshop\, we will be photographing outside in natural light at the Arnold Arboretum in Boston. If you’d like to learn a little bit about when to use flash\, we are also happy to teach that in the workshop\, but the focus will primarily be on shooting in natural light.\nWe will spend the bulk of the day photographing couples and discussing different settings\, starting in the mid-afternoon and working into the golden hour.

SUMMARY:The Horror! Hunt's Horror Lighting Portrait Workshop!
DESCRIPTION:It’s the scariest time of the year. No\, we’re not talking about tax season– It’s Halloween! As such\, we wanted to create a truly garish workshop that was instructive as it is fun\, creating truly unique imagery that you really won’t be able to get anywhere else. Lighting for Horror! In this workshop\, we will create portraits utilizing a style of lighting reminiscent to that used in Horror films!\nIn this workshop\, we will begin by discussing the style of Horror Lighting\, using examples from the history of horror\, from classic 1930s Universal horror films to 1980s slasher to more modern\, experimental techniques. Instructor Paul Nelson has spent painstaking hours and buckets of popcorn to research the intricacies of horror\, and\, believe it or not\, it’s not all just “monster lighting”. We will then photograph both inside and (if weather allows) outside to both recreate and create new in-the-style-of scenes to photograph. We will utilize both our Hunt’s Photo Melrose classrooms as well as locations in the surrounding area to great affect. We’ll discuss how to light and what to use\, create shadows and textures\, use studio space and real-life locations\, work with models and more!\nIn this workshop\, we will cover:\n? How to compose the lighting in a scene\, including how and when to use flash vs LED\n??Flash and LED lighting (important enough to write it on here twice)\n??Using lighting indoor or outside\n??Creating dynamic shadows and effects in your work with lighting\, as well as other light modification\n? How to work with (posing and directing) models to achieve a desired look\n? Developing a creative concept in portraits\, not only using lighting and posing\, but also costumes\, hair\, and make-up\nYou do not need to own a flash or lighting to attend this workshop. Photographers of all skill levels are encouraged to attend.\nJoin us for this unique\, fun\, and perhaps horrific workshop!

SUMMARY:Online: Multi-Session Series- Creating Books\, Calendars\, and More: Preparing Images\, Creating Designs\, and Emphasizing Storytelling
DESCRIPTION:Please note: This is a 3-part class that will meet on the dates listed above\nThat title is exhausting! And so it can also feel making a book\, a zine\, a calendar\, or even a print! There?s so much to the printing process that is foreign and never covered in standard courses\, and so in this course\, we will begin to cover some of the basics.\nIn this three session course\, we?ll discuss the following topics:\n-Organization?how to use your software (ANY software) to work for you to prepare your vision\n-Culling your images? reducing the quantity of images you use to strengthen your end result\n-Pre-visualization? Begin to develop your storytelling journey by letting the images guide you!\n-Exporting & Importing? How do we bring the images out of the program we?re using and at what settings?\n-Online options and standalone programs for building books\, calendars\, and more.\n-Layouts?What are some of the basic design elements that we can employee? What can be automated and what do we have to do from scratch?\n-Storytelling?This is the glue that holds the book together! (Figuratively\, not literally.) How do we keep interest for 20 pages? 50 pages? 100 pages?\nMuch of the conversation in this course will be demonstrated using Adobe Lightroom Classic\, but other programs (Capture One\, OnOne\, Apple Photos) can also be discussed and just as applicable.\nIn our final session\, we will review work from attendees. You don?t need to be done with your book. (You might not even need to be MAKING a book!) However\, the review process is an excellent way to get feedback on your book\, and also see what others are doing!\nPlease note: We will NOT be printing books in this class.\nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. We will also send a reminder email about 24 hours prior to the class time with that same information.\nLayout of the class\nThe class will begin promptly at the time listed. If for some reason you cannot attend one of the sessions\, don’t worry! They will be recorded and you will be able to watch them at your leisure! During each class\, you are welcome to type in questions in the Question box if you have specific questions as they are asked. We will do our best to answer those questions\, but if not\, feel free to ask them at the end.\n?You Are Being Recorded? (And Other Note Related Items)\nWe will be recording this class! The video will be available for download about 24-hours after the class for all attendees\, so don?t worry about taking unending notes. We will send this link attendees to download and rewatch at any time. In addition to this\, we will generally send out a PDF of the presentation (when applicable) and handouts on the topic. If handouts and PDFs are included\, we will send it out with the link for the video.\nNo online classes should be shared and cannot be shared in a public environment\, including with camera clubs\nThe online content is the copyright of Hunt’s Photo Education and/or the Instructor. SUMMARY:Multi-Session Series- Adobe Lightroom Classic- File Management & Editing (Part 2)- Hunt's Photo\, Melrose
DESCRIPTION:This is a great opportunity to build up your editing skills in Lightroom!\nAdobe Lightroom is the choice program for professionals and amateurs\, with ever-growing capabilities and options. However\, there are many levels to understanding in the program. How do we organize our photos? What do we do to make basic changes? Once we learn those changes\, how can we ?step it up? and figure out what to we?re supposed to do? How do we make images pop? And finally\, how do we put it all together and making finishing touches to our images.\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education for a course that helps answer many of these questions. Often\, Lightroom users struggle with the inability to determine what changes are ?good? or ?correct?. While those terms are subjective\, we will help you along in the editing process to see how to make determinations along the way.\nThis is a Multi-Session Class! In Week 1\, we will begin by discussing how to organize your images for quick retrieval via keywords\, ratings\, and more\, as well as giving a description on how to consider organizing your photos on your computer. Specifically\, we will cover brief computer file management\, the importance of keywords\, flagging and rating photos\, and searching metadata to find images. In Week 2\, we?ll start with the basic adjustments using Basic Development controls. More than anything\, we will be emphasizing global changes and understanding what can be done with an image in Lightroom. We?ll then dive into Color\, Curves\, Contrast & Clarity & Texture. These changes will help make your images pop. In Week 3\, we?ll discuss advanced editing\, including local adjustments\, such as radial and graduated filters\, and how to ?finish? the image- sharpening\, noise reduction\, and more.\nIn-between each session\, we will give assignments to help you become more proficient and grasp the material! This class is strongly recommended for anyone looking to further their skills with Lightroom!\nAn important note about this course! There are now a few different versions of Adobe Lightroom right now. This course is specifically on Adobe Lightroom Classic. The other version of Lightroom\, commonly known as ?Adobe Lightroom CC? (yes\, we understand you may be confused by this) is a more mobile and cloud-based program. The look and feel of the program is completely different? This course is specifically on Adobe Lightroom Classic. (See graphic on the right.) If you are unsure\, feel free to email us at classes@huntsphoto.com. Important: If you are taking this course\, make sure to download/update the program in advance\, as you will not be able to download the program at the store. Older versions\, such as Lightroom 5 or 6\, are also acceptable\, though not all functions will be available.

SUMMARY:Online: Multi-Session Series- Editing in Adobe Lightroom Classic
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for our new Multi-Session Series. In our Multi-Session Series\, we will meet over the course of a number of weeks\, generally at the same time each week. During that time\, we will discuss a specific element of a topic and end the session by giving a photographic assignment. That assignment will be due for completion before the next class meeting\, and we will review those images at the start of the next session. If for some reason you cannot attend one of the sessions\, don’t worry! They will be recorded and you will be able to watch them at your leisure!\nOur Multi-Session Series is designed to “keep the conversation going” by engaging with our attendees in a more personal way. In each of these classes\, we will have limited attendees and provide direct feedback on images. We encourage photographers of all skill levels to consider these classes\, as they will build upon your experience and provide an excellent chance to work on your imagery!\nEditing in Adobe Lightroom\nThis is a great opportunity to build up your editing skills in Lightroom!\nAdobe Lightroom is the choice program for professionals and amateurs\, with ever-growing capabilities and options. However\, there are many levels to understanding in the program. What do we do to make basic changes? Once we learn those changes\, how can we “step it up” and figure out what to we’re supposed to do? How do we make images pop? And finally\, how do we put it all together and making finishing touches to our images.\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education for this three-week course that helps answer many of these questions. What’s most important about this course is that we will give weekly editing assignments\, and we will review those edits at the start of the following week. Often\, Lightroom users struggle with the inability to determine what changes are “good” or “correct”. While those terms are subjective\, we will help you along in the editing process to see how to make determinations along the way.\nIn week one\, we’ll talk about file types and adjustment ranges using Basic Development controls. More than anything\, we will be emphasizing global changes and understanding what can be done with an image in Lightroom. In week two\, we’ll dive into Color\, Curves\, Contrast & Clarity & Texture. These changes will help make your images pop. Finally\, in week three\, we’ll discuss advanced editing\, including Sharpening\, HDR\, Pano stitching and more.\nEach week\, we will give an assignment and students will upload their edited photos prior to the next class. We will\, by and large\, be working with your images in the class.\nThis class is strongly recommended for anyone either looking to just get started with editing\, or to fine-tune your editing skills!\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. We will also send a reminder email about 24 hours prior to the class time with that same information.\nLayout of the class\nThe class will begin promptly at the time listed. SUMMARY:Video Basics- Hunt's Photo\, Providence
DESCRIPTION:Course Description\nPhotographers everywhere love that digital cameras have the capability of creating ?videos?. But what important settings are there? How can I take full advantage of my camera that has 4K 60fps\, and what am I even saying when I say those words??? I just want to make a great video- what do I need to know?!\nWell\, fret no more! Video Basics is geared for photographers that want to use their camera for occasional videos! This is the class that is going to give you insight into the basic settings and why to set them; how to take full advantage of the best qualities of your camera\, and leaves a lot of the higher-end technical stuff out of the picture.\nIn this jam-packed course\, we?ll cover basic camera settings (some of which you?re used to from still photography); basic menu settings such as frame rates\, resolution\, and codecs; framing\, composition\, and cinematography basics. The goal of this course is to send you on your way much more confident about how to set up your next video.\nA clear difference:?This class is not necessarily geared toward someone that is looking to branch into filmmaking (though it couldn?t hurt). This class is geared towards the photographer that wants to make casual videos. If you are a still photographer looking to branch into video to enhance your portfolio\, our Intro to Filmmaking class is a more advanced and challenging class that will dig deeper into many of these concepts. But hey\, you can always take both classes!

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Filter Workshop: Using Filters in the Field
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a morning of learning what filters we want to use in photography\, how to use them\, and then go out into the field to get some hands-on practice!\nWe will begin in our Hunt’s Photo Manchester classroom to learn about filters\, how to use them properly\, how to attach them to the camera\, and\, if applicable\, purchase filters. We will then travel ~22 minutes to our waterfall location to practice long exposures. (Please note: Our location is TBA. To minimize confusion\, we will let you know in the confirmation email after purchase.) There are many small falls here – wide angle\, normal zoom\, and telephoto are all recommended. UV\, Circular Polarizer (CPL)\, and Neutral Density (ND) filters are all recommended. Students may choose to shoot from the banks of the river\, but the best shots will happen by walking along some rocks. Waterproof boots are your friend!\nWhether you’ve used filters and still have questions\, you’ve never used filters\, or you need a little inspiration\, this is a great opportunity to have some fun with filters!

SUMMARY:Multi-Session Series- Adobe Lightroom Classic- File Management & Editing- Hunt's Photo\, Melrose

SUMMARY:Online: Creative Composition Series- Patterns
DESCRIPTION:Introductory Presentation Tuesday October 4th\, 7pm EST\nImage Review Tuesday October 18th\, 7pm EST\nWhen someone says\, “They have an eye for photography”\, the general consensus is that they have a good eye for composition. Composition can be both simple and complex\, often at the same time\, and there are an infinite number of variations on those complexities (and simplicities). And even if you have a good eye for composition\, it’s important to train your creative core!\nThus we introduce our Creative Composition Series. In this series\, Hunt’s Photo Education will help strengthen your compositional muscles! In class one\, we will give an overview on a specific style of composition in an online class session\, then give you time to go into the field to photograph in that compositional style. We will collect images and reconvene a few weeks later for an online image review to discuss the compositional elements of your image.\nThis month?s composition is Patterns. Come join us to work and strengthen your creative compositions!

SUMMARY:Hunt's Film Photo Walk: The North End in the Morning
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for a unique walk in the North End of Boston– one where all the attendees use only film cameras!\nFilm Photography isn’t the juggernaut that it used to be\, but neither is it the lumbering dinosaur some make it out to be. Film still gives a unique look quite different from digital photography (ahem…grain!) and challenges the photographer to think a bit more about exposure\, focus\, composition\, and more. This walk is an excellent opportunity to work on all of these concepts. Even when we’re not shooting digital\, we can plan out our shots without the instant gratification and review.\nA few notes about our Film Photo Walks\n? Attendees should have a working film camera that they can use for the walk as well as any film they would like to use.\n? Please make sure you have a working battery in the camera.\n? If you are unsure whether your camera is fully functional\, we strongly recommend you contact us at classes@huntsphoto.com and schedule a time that we can check it out!\n? It is also strongly recommended that you either load the film in advance or have an understanding of how to load the film. Again\, if you’re unsure\, contact us at classes@huntsphoto.com.\n? Our instructors know film cameras! But we don’t always know EVERY camera immediately\, so as we state above\, please plan accordingly if you’re unsure.\n? And if you do not have a film camera\, Hunt’s Photo stocks a great deal of used film cameras!

SUMMARY:How to be a Birder and a Photographer by Alex Eisengart and Christopher Smith
DESCRIPTION:Alex and Chris will deep dive into their differences. Chris likes to shoot while sitting\, and he often comes back to the same locations again and again. Alex likes to walk and shoot\, and tries to go to a different place than the week past. However\, they have some similarities. While Chris doesn?t chase rarities\, he still looks for different subjects to shoot. And Alex still cares about composition and taking good photos. You can learn from our differences the best way to incorporate your birding with your photography. There?s so much more to dove into\, so this is a must-sign-up!\nRegister below\nNote: If the below registration window does not appear\, you can also register at this link.
