SUMMARY:Hunt's Portrait Workshop: Lighting on Location ft. Dia De Los Muertos
DESCRIPTION:Join photographer Henry Marte and Hunt’s Photo Education for a unique portrait workshop where we will demonstrate how to light a subject in any environment utilizing natural light and supplemental light (flash or LED). \nLighting on Location means that you’re lighting in a real-world environment and not just a studio. Our workshop will take place at the Western Ave Studios in Lowell\, which features unique indoor elements\, such as old stairways\, weathered brick\, and cracking cement\, and outdoor locations\, such as a garden\, railroad tracks. We will utilize the natural environment of our location to work into our portraits\, and then use lights to make it something spectacular. This workshop is a great opportunity for both beginner and intermediate photographers\, as we’ll build examples of where to place subjects\, when to use lighting\, and what lighting we think works best for that environment. (Lighting will be provided!) \nThe theme for this workshop is Dia De Los Muertos. Our models will be made up and dressed in the style shown in the photos above\, with make-up provided by @lisa_la_colorista! \nFor gear\, we will be using both Westcott (FJ200\, FJ400\, FJ800) strobes/flashes as well as Westcott diffusers as well as a mix of Nanlite and Aputure LED lights\, all of which are excellent brands for creating stunning portraits. \nThis workshop will be co-taught by Hunt’s Photo Educator Paul Nelson and professional photographer Henry Marte. Both have extensive portrait experience and will take you through the full process\, from naturally lighting a subject\, to how to properly expose while using lighting\, to how to actually use the lights themselves! \nPhotographers of all skill levels are encouraged to attend. \nAbout Henry Marte\nHenry is a published photographer and credited filmmaker. He specializes in various forms of photography\, including portrait\, events\, headshots\, drone\, and commercial photography. Other than attending MassArt’s Documentary Film School\, he is almost entirely self taught. He runs a small media production studio called Marte Media\, based out of Western Avenue Studios in Lowell. Some of his clients include Spartan Race\, UMass Lowell\, Phillips Academy\, Navigation Brewing Company\, and more. Originally from NYC\, he now calls Lowell\, Massachusetts his home. He enjoys New York style pizza\, walks with a camera\, and hiking to active volcanoes.

SUMMARY:Developing Black & White Film- Hunt's Photo Melrose
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education as we discuss all the key elements of loading and developing film\, and get you to develop a roll on your own! In this workshop\, we will show you how to load film into a developing tank\, discuss the elements of the chemistry involved\, and other various aspects. Because of the many variables\, we will only be using one specific type of developer\, but we will discuss the possibilities of other developers available and their advantages. \nPlease note: This class caters to black & white film developing only! We will also have a color film developing class. All film classes can be found here. \nWe will provide tanks\, reels\, chemistry\, and basically anything that you need to develop your film. All you will need to have is a roll of film to develop. (Make sure that roll is black and white and NOT C-41 black and white\, as that cannot be developed in black and white chemistry!) \nWe will also include a free scan of your film after it has been processed! Since your film will be wet at the end of the session\, you will leave it to dry so it can be scanned. The digital scans will be sent directly to your email address. SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Adventure: Autumn in New Orleans & The Louisiana Bayou
DESCRIPTION:Workshop Description \nHunt’s Photo Adventure leaders Bob Fletcher and Jeff Swinger invite you to a unique Photo Adventure to New Orleans & the Louisiana Bayou. The trip will have a variety of subjects\, from street photography and architecture to wildlife and swampy landscapes!\nThe first two days we will be exploring New Orleans’s French Quarter\, Bourbon Street\, the Garden District\, and the Gothic above-ground cemetery that you have seen so often on television and in movies. You will be photographing architecture and street performers\, riding on a historic streetcar\, and enjoying the warm ambiance of New Orleans. \nThe rest of the days\, prepare yourself for an adventure through the swamps and bayous of Louisiana. You will embark on your journey in a custom-built vessel with a covered roof to keep you dry and cool. Tours are narrated by Capt. Billy Gaston\, who was born and raised in the Bayou. Toilet facilities are available on board the boat with special attention given to seniors and the physically challenged. \nThe cypress swamps of Louisiana are beautifully scenic\, but can be difficult to photograph without a boat to access most of the photogenic areas and an experienced guide to get you there. Photographing out of boats\, you will be shooting mostly handheld.  Wildlife like egrets\, herons\, turtles\, snakes\, owls\, and alligators can be common sightings in the swamp. You will want to bring a variety of focal lengths from wide angle to telephoto to get the most out of your trip. Early November to mid-December is the best time to be in the swamps. Wildlife is preparing for winter and is active and abundant. The cypress trees can take on a rusty appearance and fog can be common in the mornings. \n \nItinerary\nThis photography workshop begins in New Orleans\, where we’ll immerse ourselves in the energy and character of the French Quarter. From historic streets and iconic architecture to street performers and classic New Orleans flavors\, the city provides endless opportunities for storytelling and candid photography\, both day and night. We’ll explore at a relaxed pace\, focusing on capturing the spirit and visual rhythm of the Quarter. \n  \nMidway through the trip\, we head south to Morgan City and into the heart of Louisiana’s bayou country. Here\, the focus shifts to wildlife and landscape photography as we explore winding waterways by boat with a local Cajun guide. Cypress trees\, moss-draped swamps\, and native wildlife—including alligators and birdlife—create a completely different visual experience. Sunrise and afternoon sessions allow us to work in the best light\, with time built in for image review and post-processing discussions. One day includes a catered Southern Low Country shrimp boil lunch in the bayou\, paired with live local musicians for entertainment—an authentic Cajun experience between shooting sessions. The workshop concludes with a relaxed return to New Orleans for departures. \n\n  \nWhat’s included: \n\nIn-field instruction throughout the entire workshop\nPost-production time using Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop\nImage reviews and critiques\, as requested\nAll local vehicle transportation and tour boat transportation with our local guide\nLocal Cajun guide and boat captain\, born and raised in the bayou\n\nWhat’s not included: \n\nFlight and baggage to and from New Orleans\nLodging\nMeals\nTips to our local guide and Cajun musicians\nTrip insurance\, which is recommended for any Hunt’s Photo Adventure\n\nSkill Sets: All Levels of Photographers are Welcome\nPhysical Activity: Low to Mild\, mostly just walking \nIn this workshop we will cover: \n\nTracking Focus\nExposure\nComposition\nMetering\nUse of Lenses\nSubject Development\nCreative Thinking\nShooting in Low Light\n\n  \nRecommended gear: \nCamera(s)\, plenty of memory cards and camera batteries\nWide angle\, standard\, and telephoto lenses (If you are looking for a lens to rent\, you can rent it from us at rentals.huntsphoto.com!)\nTripod and/or monopod\nPolarizers and Neutral Density filters\nSunscreen\, bug repellent \nTravel information to MSY\nArrive by Nov. 2nd before 11:00 am.  At 11:00 am on Nov. 2nd there will be a group pick-up at Louis Armstrong Int’l Airport (MSY).  You will be returned to MSY by 1:00 pm on Nov. 7th for your flight home.  If these dates and/or times do not work for you\, consider coming in a day earlier or staying a day later. \nHotel information \nLodging is not included in the cost of this Adventure. Hotel reservations have been secured for the group in New Orleans and Morgan City\, LA. This essential information will be shared during the registration process once full payment for the workshop has been completed. After that\, please contact the hotels directly and provide them with your name and credit card details to finalize your room reservation. \nAbout Weather \nNovember brings comfortable temperatures in Louisiana\, with lows in the 50’s and highs in the mid-70s\, ideal for exploring and photographing outdoors.\nParticipants should use ONE (1) soft-sided rolling duffle for luggage and ONE (1) camera case.  Pack conservatively as the portage room is limited. \nPayments\nA non-refundable deposit of 25% is required upon registration to secure a spot. SUMMARY:Editing in Adobe Lightroom Classic- Hunt's Photo\, Melrose
DESCRIPTION:Please note: This course does not cover file management or importing images into the program. To learn how to do that\, check out our Lightroom File Management courses. \nThis is a great opportunity to build up your editing skills in Lightroom!\nAdobe Lightroom is the choice program for professionals and amateurs\, with ever-growing capabilities and options. However\, there are many levels to understanding in the program. What do we do to make basic changes? Once we learn those changes\, how can we “step it up” and figure out what to we’re supposed to do? How do we make images pop? And finally\, how do we put it all together and making finishing touches to our images.\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education for a course that helps answer many of these questions. Often\, Lightroom users struggle with the inability to determine what changes are “good” or “correct”. While those terms are subjective\, we will help you along in the editing process to see how to make determinations along the way.\nThis is a Multi-Session Class! In Week 1\, we’ll start with the basic adjustments using Basic Development controls. More than anything\, we will be emphasizing global changes and understanding what can be done with an image in Lightroom. We’ll then dive into Color\, Curves\, Contrast & Clarity & Texture. These changes will help make your images pop. In Week 2\, we’ll discuss advanced editing\, including local adjustments\, such as radial and graduated filters\, and how to “finish” the image- sharpening\, noise reduction\, and more.\nIn-between each session\, we will give assignments to help you become more proficient and grasp the material! This class is strongly recommended for anyone looking to further their skills with Lightroom! \n \nAn important note about this course! There are now a few different versions of Adobe Lightroom right now. This course is specifically on Adobe Lightroom Classic. The other version of Lightroom\, commonly known as “Adobe Lightroom CC” (yes\, we understand you may be confused by this) is a more mobile and cloud-based program. The look and feel of the program is completely different– This course is specifically on Adobe Lightroom Classic. (See graphic on the right.) If you are unsure\, feel free to email us at classes@huntsphoto.com. Important: If you are taking this course\, make sure to download/update the program in advance\, as you will not be able to download the program at the store. Older versions\, such as Lightroom 5 or 6\, are also acceptable\, though not all functions will be available. \n \nCurious which Adobe plan to get? We recommend the 20GB Photography Plan\, detailed in the screenshot on the left. You can find it here!

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Experience: Photographing Demons with Bobbi Lane
DESCRIPTION:Demons live in the shadow\, not the light — your key is what you take away\, not what you add. Push into low-key territory: hard\, directional sources (a Fresnel snooted tight\, or a light raked at a brutal angle) carving the face out of near-total black. Let split lighting cut a subject in half\, one side devoured entirely by darkness. Underexpose the background until it disappears. The tension comes from concealment — a jawline suggested rather than shown\, an eye lit while the rest of the face surrenders to shadow. This is chiaroscuro at its most aggressive: contrast so steep it borders on violence\, an image that feels like something is being hidden from the viewer rather than revealed to them. \nPhotographer and Educator Bobbi Lane will discuss how to master “photographing demons” using classic techniques and modern lighting\, using Fuji cameras and Nanlite lighting. \n  \nAbout Bobbi Lane \nBobbi Lane\, a Fujifilm “X” Photographer\, is an award-winning commercial photographer specializing in creative portraits on location and in the studio. Lane’s multi-faceted approach to photography incorporates over 40 years of technical experience with innovative artistic interpretation. Her corporate and editorial work includes corporate websites and hundreds of environmental portraits for a wide variety of magazines. As a dedicated photo educator\, she brings insight and enthusiasm to her students in workshops held worldwide. She is widely known as the “Mistress of Light”\, teaching portrait lighting techniques with both natural and artificial light. Combining her love of travel\, photography and teaching\, Bobbi also leads international photo travel workshops with her husband Lee Varis\, such as Venice Carnival\, Tuscany\, Neighborhoods of New York and Scotland. Her dynamic workshops are always both education and entertaining! \nHer websites: \nwww.bobbilane.com \nwww.bobbiandleesphotoadventures.com

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Experience: Photographing Divas with Bobbi Lane
DESCRIPTION:Divas command the light rather than hide from it — think glamour portraiture\, where a single dominant source sculpts the face with authority and glow rather than menace. Rim lighting becomes essential here: a hard edge separating the subject from the background\, giving a halo of definition that reads as star power. A fill light is more generous than with harsher work — shadows are shaped\, not erased entirely\, so skin still has dimension\, but nothing is left to devour the features. The pose and gaze do as much work as the light: the chin is lifted\, a directness or knowing half-smile that assumes the camera is lucky to be there. It’s lighting as reverence — dramatic\, but in service of magnetism rather than dread.\n \nPhotographer and Educator Bobbi Lane will discuss how to master “photographing divas” using classic techniques and modern lighting\, using Fuji cameras and Nanlite lighting. \n  \nAbout Bobbi Lane \nBobbi Lane\, a Fujifilm “X” Photographer\, is an award-winning commercial photographer specializing in creative portraits on location and in the studio. SUMMARY:Providence Show Seminar: Don’t Overthink the Process - My Street Photography Journey with Rafael Medina
DESCRIPTION:Starting your street photography journey in a small city can feel frustrating and limiting\, leading many to assume you need to be in a metropolitan area to create anything of value. Nine years of documenting Providence\, Rhode Island has taught Rafael Medina otherwise.  \nIn this presentation\, Rafael shares how photo books\, YouTube\, community and most importantly relentless practice shaped the way he documents his environment. From self published photo books and zines to exhibiting in multiple galleries and creating a street photography collective\, he will discuss his journey in hopes it can motivate you to not overthink the process and do the same.  \n\n  \nAbout Rafael Medina: \nBased in Providence\, Rhode Island\, I am a Dominican American street and event photographer documenting my community since 2017. From self-publishing my photobook Dear PVD to capturing the energy of local festivals such as Newport Jazz or Daytrill\, my work is rooted in connection to the people and places around me. As co-founder of SESSIONS\, a street photography collective that hosts monthly events and photowalks\, I help create a dedicated space for community connection and artistic growth.
