In addition to photographing\, we will be joined on this walk by Mass Audubon Teacher Naturalist Correne George who will discuss how to recognize and find birds in the area\, as well as how to ethically approach and work with birds with a naturalist approach. Photographers of all skill levels are encouraged to attend!\nPlease note: There will be a good amount of walking on this Photo Walk. Nothing too treacherous\, but make sure to wear comfortable shoes!

DESCRIPTION:Don’t know where to begin when photographing dancers? Jump right in for this day-long in-depth learning experience with Heather Larkin and SIGMA lenses where we will be working with ballet dancers\, both at rest and in action. In this deep dive masterclass\, you’ll learn what to look for in a good dance photo. You’ll also learn a few dance vocabulary terms so you can ask your ballerina models to execute what you are envisioning.\nWe?ll start by watching Heather as she poses the dancers for the best portraits in the studio. Then\, you?ll have the opportunity to take photos under the same conditions. DESCRIPTION:Please note: This is a 2-part class that will meet on the dates listed above\nAfter learning ?the basics? of digital photography\, become more comfortable in the world of digital photography by taking the next step.\nLearning about photography can be a real challenge! For this reason\, we often start newcomers off using the “Priority Modes” (Ex. Aperture Priority) because it’s “easier”. In reality\, these priority modes are just one solution. For some photographers\, there is only the manual mode. But why is it important to shoot in the Manual mode? Are there reasons to use manual vs. Aperture priority and vice-versa? How can we maximize usability?\nWhile our Beginner class scratches the surface of these functions\, this Beyond the Basics class will cover in-depth:\n?Your Camera?s Light Meter and how it works\n?Use of Aperture Priority vs. Manual modes\n?Histograms\n?Photographing in RAW vs. Jpeg\nWe will also give an assignment to do outside of class in order to help strengthen your photographic abilities!\nUnderstanding the full-functionality of your camera is a necessity to improving your flexibility when photographing in a variety of situations. This course is designed to help you feel more comfortable about how to change your camera?s settings in those situations. It is recommended as a follow-up to our Beginner Photography course.

SUMMARY:Online: Basic Digital Printing (Printing with Lightroom)
DESCRIPTION:The time has come to tame digital printing! With the low price of excellent quality digital printers\, what was once an elite craft is now much more manageable for the average photographer. This course briefly covers the basics questions of printing\, including editing suggestions\, color management tools and settings\, paper styles and finishes\, printing recommendations\, and troubleshooting on how to avoid those nasty pitfalls that can occur along the way. Whether you use Canon\, Epson or HP\, the concepts in this course remain the same.\nThis class also focuses on printing using Lightroom specifically. Being able to print from Lightroom allows you to complete all of your tasks specifically in one rather than multiple programs. Even if you do not own or use Lightroom\, the concepts within this class are fairly global and these concepts can be translated to other programs. We will also discuss printing using these other programs.\nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. SUMMARY:Online: Multi-Session Series- Mastering Manual Mode (Pt 2)
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for our new Multi-Session Series. In our Multi-Session Series\, we will meet over the course of a number of weeks\, generally at the same time each week. During that time\, we will discuss a specific element of a topic and end the session by giving a photographic assignment. That assignment will be due for completion before the next class meeting\, and we will review those images at the start of the next session. If for some reason you cannot attend one of the sessions\, don’t worry! They will be recorded and you will be able to watch them at your leisure!\nOur Multi-Session Series is designed to “keep the conversation going” by engaging with our attendees in a more personal way. In each of these classes\, we will have 10-15 attendees and provide direct feedback on images. We encourage photographers of all skill levels to consider these classes\, as they will build upon your experience and provide an excellent chance to work on your imagery!\nMastering Manual Mode\nLearning about photography can be a real challenge. There are so many pieces to the puzzle of photography\, some of which use confusing terminology. For this reason\, we often start newcomers off using the Priority Modes because it’s “easier”. In reality\, these priority modes are just a short-term solution. It’s important to fully understand the “why” and “how” of your camera settings\, and learning to master manual is an excellent way to do so.\nThis Multi-Session Series will focus on Mastering Manual Mode. In week 1\, we?ll cover the technical side of aperture\, shutter\, and ISO. We?ll also discuss metering modes\, reading your meter\, and understanding histograms. In week 2\, we?ll learn to control depth of field\, focusing\, and how lens choice affects aperture choice. By week 3\, we?ll discuss how to use shutter speed effectively to either blur your motion or freeze your action. We?ll talk about shooting at night and in low light. We?ll also talk about ISO and how it controls image noise. In week 4\, we?ll put everything together by discussing dynamic range\, white balance\, and how to get the correct exposure in camera every time. We?ll also answer the most important question of all: which change should I make to achieve my desired results?\nEach week Emily will give an assignment to help further the topics covered in that week?s class. Students are encouraged to send in assignments that will be individually critiqued by Emily each week. SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Filter Workshop: Using Filters in the Field with Waterfalls
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a morning of learning what filters we want to use in photography\, how to use them\, and then go out into the field to get some hands-on practice!\nWe will begin in our Hunt’s Photo Manchester classroom to learn about filters\, how to use them properly\, how to attach them to the camera\, and\, if applicable\, purchase filters. We will then travel ~22 minutes to our waterfall location to practice long exposures. (Please note: Our location is TBA. To minimize confusion\, we will let you know in the confirmation email after purchase.) There are many small falls here – wide angle\, normal zoom\, and telephoto are all recommended. UV\, Circular Polarizer (CPL)\, and Neutral Density (ND) filters are all recommended. Students may choose to shoot from the banks of the river\, but the best shots will happen by walking along some rocks. Waterproof boots are your friend!\nWhether you’ve used filters and still have questions\, you’ve never used filters\, or you need a little inspiration\, this is a great opportunity to have some fun with filters!

For some photographers\, there is only the manual mode. But why is it important to shoot in the Manual mode? Are there reasons to use manual vs. Aperture priority and vice-versa? How can we maximize usability?\nWhile our Beginner class scratches the surface of these functions\, this Beyond the Basics class will cover in-depth:\n?Your Camera?s Light Meter and how it works\n?Use of Aperture Priority vs. Manual modes\n?Histograms\n?Photographing in RAW vs. Jpeg\nWe will also give an assignment to do outside of class in order to help strengthen your photographic abilities!\nUnderstanding the full-functionality of your camera is a necessity to improving your flexibility when photographing in a variety of situations. DESCRIPTION:Want to have some fun with OM System cameras? Join OM System Rep Mike Amico for a fun class on the long exposure modes found in the Olympus/OM System cameras. Mike will go over the different long exposure modes found in the OM System cameras and how to use them. After the class we will head outside where Mike will utilize the Live Composite feature to Light Paint a car! If you are an Olympus/OM System user\, you have to check this out! If you are not an Olympus/OM System user\, you have to check this out! Mike will have a limited number of cameras set up on site for those who don’t currently own an OM System camera to try out these cool features.

SUMMARY:Providence Show Seminar: Iceland Land of Midnight Sun with Shawn Carey
DESCRIPTION:Iceland abounds in natural splendor: Waterfalls and glaciers\, panoramic views\, and otherworldly landscapes. It is a land of Northern Lights and midnight sun. And it is the realm of one of the world?s most charming and iconic bird: the Atlantic Puffin.  \nBut Iceland is home to much more. During the summer months\, Iceland?s round-the-clock sunlight draws in a panoply of birds: Razorbills and guillemots\, phalaropes and godwits\, plovers and terns\, all accompany the puffins in nesting frenzy. Come along with wildlife photographer and Mass Audubon instructor Shawn Carey as he shares images\, and stories from his journey spent on two Icelandic islands. We will visit Grimsey Island\, the northern most inhabited island off the mainland of Iceland. For bird photographers and bird watchers looking for a great place to view and photograph nesting seabirds that call this island home during the summer this is a place you want to visit.\nFrom Grimsey we will travel to the island of Flatey\, a real hidden gem for bird photographers and bird watchers alike. Most people pass through Flatey (via ferry service out of Stykkisholmur) on their way to the well-known Latrabjarg bird cliffs to see Atlantic Puffins and Razorbills. However\, for those that have or take the time to explore Flatey you will find a small island that offers some very good photographic opportunities\, especially for Black Guillemot\, Red-necked Phalarope and Common Redshank just to name a few.\nIf you are planning a birding or bird photography trip to Iceland\, I would add Grimsey and Flatey island to your travel itinerary. Both are enjoyable places to spend a few days.\nAbout Shawn Carey (Migration Productions) produce bird/wildlife related Multi-media Presentations\, videos and photo workshops that have been presented all over the United States. Shawn moved from his home in Pennsylvania to Massachusetts in 1986 and started watching birds in 1988. Already with an interest in photography and now birds Shawn began to combine the two in 1991. By 1994 he and good friend Jim Grady started Migration Productions as a way to present their multi-image slide presentations to a live audience. Migration Productions have been presenting programs to natural history\, birding organizations and camera clubs since 1994. (Mass Audubon\, Eastern Mass Hawk Watch\, Hawk Mountain Sanctuary and countless others.) Migration Productions offers the finest quality bird/wildlife programs with stunning photographs\, video\, sound tracks\, and interviews with many people involved with bird watching and natural history topics. Shawn’s photos have been published in the Boston Globe\, New York Times\, Mass Audubon Sanctuary magazine\, Science magazine\, Hawk Mountain Sanctuary magazine and many others over the last 20+ years. In 1997 he started teaching bird photography workshops (Fundamentals of Bird Photography) for the Massachusetts Audubon and is an instructor for Summer Fields Schools on Cape Cod for Mass Audubon Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary.
