Please see note below about weather. \nWeather and Weather Gear  \nA Note About Weather (and weather gear)  \nWhat to Expect  \nDuring October 2–13\, the average daily temperatures in Provence and the Camargue typically range from the 50s–60s °F (10s–20s °C). Expect:  \n\nPleasant afternoons are perfect for exploring and photographing. \n\n\nCooler mornings and evenings\, especially near the marshes and open landscapes. \n\n\nMild winds in some areas\, particularly around coastal and marsh regions. \n\n\nStunning natural light — October often brings soft\, golden light ideal for photography. \n\n\nSeasonal colors in vineyards\, historic villages\, and wildlife habitats. \n\n  \nRecommended gear: \nTo make the most of your workshop and stay comfortable\, consider bringing:  \nClothing:  \n\nLayered clothing for fluctuating temperatures (light sweaters\, long sleeves\, jackets). \n\n\nA windproof and waterproof jacket for cooler mornings and potential light rain. \n\n\nComfortable walking shoes or hiking boots for village streets\, marshes\, and uneven terrain. \n\n\nHat and sunglasses for sun protection. \n\n\nOptional: lightweight gloves and scarf for crisp mornings. \n\nPhotography Gear:  \n\nCamera(s) with multiple lenses (wide-angle for landscapes\, telephoto for wildlife). \n\n\nTripod for low-light and sunset/sunrise shots. (Optional) \n\n\nExtra batteries and memory cards. \n\n\nLens cleaning kit (dust and marsh conditions). \n\n\nA camera bag comfortable for day excursions. \n\n\nRoller camera bags or backpacks for travel are fine for this trip. \n\nLaptops & Image Management  \n\nWhile laptops are optional\, many participants find them helpful for: \n\n\nReviewing images daily to check composition\, exposure\, and focus. \n\n\nParticipating in critiques with the instructor and peers. \n\n\nBacking up and organizing files during the workshop to ensure nothing is lost. \n\nTips  \n\nBring a lightweight laptop if possible\, to avoid heavy loads while traveling. \n\n\nInclude your charging cables and any necessary adapters for France (European plug type C/E/F). \n\n\nConsider using portable external drives or cloud storage for additional backup. \n\n\nIf you choose not to bring a laptop\, a memory card organizer and backup cards will suffice for image storage. \n\n  \nOther Essentials:  \n\nReusable water bottle. \n\n\nNotebook or journal for notes and inspiration. \n\n\nSmall backpack or daypack for daily outings. \n\n  \nLuggage:   \n\nSoft-sided luggage with wheels is strongly recommended. These are easier to fit in the vans and allow flexibility for tight spaces. \n\n\nDuffel bags are good as well. \n\n\nConsider stair access at hotels or historic accommodations — if you anticipate needing to carry your luggage up a flight of stairs\, pack only what you can comfortably manage. (We will be there to help\, but please consider) \n\nTravel information\nYou need to fly into Marseille Provence Airport (MRS). There will be a bulk pickup of attendees at the airport. If you choose to arrive earlier or stay later\, you will need to make your own arrangements for transportation into Provence. \nHotel information\nAll hotels have been secured for you during the workshop. Due to the sensitive nature of this workshop and the difficulty of securing accommodations\, we will not be detailing our itinerary or accommodations to anyone who is not attending this workshop.  All accommodations in Camargue and Provence are 3-star hotels. \nPayments\nA non-refundable reservation fee of $2000 (25%) is required upon sign-up to secure a spot. The total cost of the trip is $7995 per person for single occupancy.  Please note that the reservation fee and payments on this workshop are non-refundable. Please make sure to purchase insurance in case you need to cancel your trip. (You can purchase trip insurance from numerous insurance companies– Allianz\, AAA\, and more.)\nThe remaining balance is due 120-days (4 months) prior to the workshop and can be made on this page. \nSharing a Room? \nIf you are signing up for two tickets and sharing a room\, you can receive $1\,000 off the cost of each ticket. Your discount will be applied on the final payment.

SUMMARY:Hunt's Horror Lighting Portrait Workshop V: What We Shoot in the Shadows (with guest photographer Lindsey Ruth)
DESCRIPTION:It’s the scariest time of the year…again! No\, we’re not talking about tax season– It’s Halloween! Join us for our annual Horror Lighting Portrait Workshop! In this workshop\, we will create portraits utilizing a style of lighting reminiscent to that used in Horror films!\nIn this workshop\, we will begin by discussing the style of Horror Lighting\, using examples from the history of horror\, from classic 1930s Universal horror films to 1980s slasher to more modern\, experimental techniques. Instructor Paul Nelson has spent painstaking hours and buckets of popcorn to research the intricacies of horror\, and\, believe it or not\, it’s not all just “monster lighting”. We will photograph both inside and (if weather allows) outside to both recreate and create new in-the-style-of scenes to photograph. We will utilize both our Hunt’s Photo Melrose classrooms as well as locations in the surrounding area to great effect. We’ll discuss how to light and what to use\, create shadows and textures\, use studio space and real-life locations\, work with models and more!\nIn this workshop\, we will cover:\n• How to compose the lighting in a scene\, including how and when to use flash vs LED\n• Flash and LED lighting (important enough to write it on here twice)\n• Using lighting indoor or outside\n• Creating dynamic shadows and effects in your work with lighting\, as well as other light modification\n• How to work with (posing and directing) models to achieve a desired look\n• Developing a creative concept in portraits\, not only using lighting and posing\, but also costumes\, hair\, and make-up\nYou do not need to own a flash or lighting to attend this workshop. Photographers of all skill levels are encouraged to attend. \nAdded Bonus! \nThis year\, we will be joined by guest photographer and SIGMA Ambassador Lindsey Ruth\, as well as SIGMA lenses! We’re incredibly excited to have more insight and experience for what some of us (*cough Paul*) consider to be our favorite workshop of the year! \nJoin us for this unique\, fun\, and perhaps horrific workshop!

SUMMARY:An Intro to Creating Cyanotypes - A 2-Part Workshop- Hunt's Photo\, Melrose
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education as we dive into a workshop that will quite literally bring you back to the days of film and hand-printing!\nCyanotypes are quite literally BLUE prints that can be simply made by placing a negative on top of a piece of coated paper (or other material) under UV light (or the sun) for a period of time. Once washed in water\, the resulting print produces a brilliant blue image on a white background. \nCyanotypes are also sometimes also referred to as sun prints\, as you can put semi-translucent items in front of the negatives/paper to create an ethereal look in your prints. We will demonstrate both processes during this workshop. \nThis is a 2-part workshop. In our first session\, we will discuss the process\, materials needed\, how to create a digital negative\, the cyanotype chemistry\, and other fun elements to include with your cyanotypes. We will spend the rest of the first session making cyanotypes–coating paper\,  adding semi-translucent items\, and printing images. For session 1\, we will use a set of pre-made digital negatives to give you a good idea of the type of images that work for cyanotypes. \nIn our second session\, we will continue coating and printing using your images. You are also welcome to bring in other materials you have brought from home\, if you choose. \nThis is a unique workshop that will emphasize creativity and process. \nA few items of note:\n• In this workshop\, we will be utilizing cyanotype chemistry\, consisting of ferric ammonium citrate (for light sensitivity) and potassium ferricyanide (for color). As described by the chemistry company Photographers Formulary\, “…[Potassium Ferricyanide] is not particularly toxic… [unless] placed in a strong acid solution; however\, strong acid is not used in the cyanotype process.”\n• Because we will be working with chemistry\, you must follow all instructions given regarding chemistry and personal protective equipment.\n• Because this chemistry can stain\, we will be taking precautions and wearing gloves. We strongly recommend bringing an apron\, one that you won’t mind if it changes colors.

In this course we will reinforce what we learned in the basic class\, but pepper in more advanced capabilities\, including newer editing capabilities. Specifically\, we will cover: \n\nAI Masking and Advanced Masking Techniques\n\nSky\, Subject\, and Background Masking\nObject Masking\nAdding into Existing Masking\nColor/Luminance Range Masking\n\n\nDistraction Removal\nDenoise and Super Resolution\n\nProfiles\n\n\nRGB Tone Curve\n\nPerspective Correction\n\nAnd more! \nThis is a 2-Part class. We encourage testing out what you’ve learned in between sessions to maximize your experience! \n \n \nAn important note about this course! There are now a few different versions of Adobe Lightroom right now. This course is specifically on Adobe Lightroom Classic. The other version of Lightroom\, commonly known as “Adobe Lightroom CC” (yes\, we understand you may be confused by this) is a more mobile and cloud-based program. The look and feel of the program is completely different– This course is specifically on Adobe Lightroom Classic. (See graphic on the right.) If you are unsure\, feel free to email us at classes@huntsphoto.com. Important: If you are taking this course\, make sure to download/update the program in advance\, as you will not be able to download the program at the store. Older versions\, such as Lightroom 5 or 6\, are also acceptable\, though not all functions will be available. \n \nCurious which Adobe plan to get? We recommend the 20GB Photography Plan\, detailed in the screenshot on the left. You can find it here!

SUMMARY:Online: Personal Vision Series- Serendipity
DESCRIPTION:Introductory Presentation Wednesday October 14th\, 7pm EST\nImage Review – Wednesday October 28th\, 7pm EST \nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education as we help grow your knowledge\, creativity\, and artistic expression with our expanded Personal Vision Series. These classes are designed to provide you time\, opportunity\, and guidance in shaping your creative photographic voice. We will give an overview on a specific topic in an online class session\, then give you time to go into the field by yourself (or with someone else\, if you choose) to complete an assignment based on that topic. We will reconvene a few days later for an online image review to discuss elements of your images.\nThe Personal Vision Series is a crossroads of many different ideas that we offer with Hunt’s Photo Education: Topic-based instruction/classes\, Photo Walks\, & Image Reviews. However\, unlike a Photo Walk where we will all take a certain direction\, for the “Walk” portion\, you will be asked to journey out on your own to photograph. \nThis will cause you to be the driving force of your creativity and vision! This month’s topic is “Serendipity“. As photographers\, we often organize our creative time purposefully.  Striving for success\, we research various locations and appealing subjects we might find there.  We evaluate time and light to decide when and where our creative vision will work best.   However\, by planning so carefully\, we risk overlooking one of the greatest joys of photography; serendipity.  This Personal Vision Series will encourage attendees to leave the house\, camera in hand for a ride or walk\, and enjoy the benefits of discovery. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe will have an instructional online presentation on the first date and will reconvene for our Image Review on the second date. You will have that time period in between to photograph and edit our assignment. Your personal creative voice is critical to your growth as a photographer and as an artist. Join us for to help grow that voice!

During that time\, we will discuss a specific element of a topic and end the session by giving a photographic assignment. That assignment will be due for completion before the next class meeting\, and we will review those images at the start of the next session. If for some reason you cannot attend one of the sessions\, don’t worry! They will be recorded and you will be able to watch them at your leisure!\nOur Multi-Session Series is designed to “keep the conversation going” by engaging with our attendees in a more personal way. In each of these classes\, we will have 10-15 attendees and provide direct feedback on images. We encourage photographers of all skill levels to consider these classes\, as they will build upon your experience and provide an excellent chance to work on your imagery!\nLandscape Photography\nLandscape photography is one of the most easily accessible genres of photography and is enjoyed by many. In week two\, we’ll edit landscape images from start to finish using Adobe Lightroom Classic. By week three\, we’ll discuss composition\, dynamic range\, depth of field\, and focus. We’ll also discuss when to shoot in color and when to shoot in black and white. In our last week\, we’ll cover shooting and editing HDR images and panorama images in Adobe Lightroom Classic. We’ll also cover shooting landscapes at night as well as astrolandscapes. Each week\, Emily will give an assignment to hone your new skills and each student will receive individualized critiques. Emily is also available to answer any questions along the way.\nJoin us for this fun and unique multi-session series that will help you develop your skills with landscapes!\nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. We will do our best to answer those questions\, but if not\, feel free to ask them at the end.\n?You Are Being Recorded? (And Other Note Related Items)\nWe will be recording this class! The video will be available for download about 24-hours after the class for all attendees\, so don?t worry about taking unending notes. We will send this link attendees to download and rewatch at any time. In addition to this\, we will generally send out a PDF of the presentation (when applicable) and handouts on the topic. If handouts and PDFs are included\, we will send it out with the link for the video.\nNo online classes should be shared and cannot be shared in a public environment\, including with camera clubs\nThe online content is the copyright of Hunt’s Photo Education and/or the Instructor. SUMMARY:Hunt's Street Photography Walk: Salem\, Mass in October
DESCRIPTION:The city of Salem is synonymous with the Salem Witch Trials of the late-1600s\, and although the trials took place outside what is now commonly known as Salem\, the city has adopted them as part of its identity. Many of the city’s cobblestone walks\, 17th-19th century houses & architecture\, and cemeteries have been maintained\, reflecting Salem’s identity as a haunted community. \nOn this walk\, we will be working on street photography in one of the wildest times of year in Salem- October! Prepare yourself for frights\, sights\, and lots and lots of people\, as these streets can become incredibly busy! Part of getting great street photography is finding good opportunities for subject matter\, and this will give you many great chances! Join us for a fun-filled morning. \nPlease note: Parking in Salem can be extremely difficult this time of year. We strongly recommend you consider taking the commuter rail into Salem. With that in mind\, make sure you leave yourself plenty of time!
