Soft light is safe—hard light tells a story.

Join Westcott’s JC Carey for a hands-on lighting workshop focused on the power, drama, and creative freedom of hard light. Using a variety of focused light modifiers like the Westcott Deep Focus Reflector and other hard reflectors, this class is built for photographers who want to create images with stronger shadows, more contrast, and a bold visual impact that stands out.

From fashion-inspired portraits to cinematic character studies, hard light gives photographers the ability to shape mood with precision. This workshop will explore how to use direct, controlled light to create depth, texture, separation, and intentional drama—whether you’re working indoors or on location.

Built around JC’s proven From Fear to Flash teaching method, this class keeps lighting approachable, practical, and fun. Instead of getting lost in technical complexity, attendees will learn how to see light, control light, and use harder modifiers with confidence to create images that feel intentional and powerful.

This is a fully hands-on experience designed for photographers of all skill levels—from those just stepping into off-camera flash to experienced shooters looking to add more edge and personality to their work.

Bring your camera, a desire to experiment, and a willingness to create.

Westcott will provide the lights, triggers, and modifiers—including tools like the Westcott Deep Focus Reflector—you just need to show up ready to make something unforgettable.
