Slow down. Look closer. Discover the quiet poetry in cracks, textures, shadows, and fleeting moments. This online class invites you to explore photography through the lens of wabi sabi—the Japanese philosophy that celebrates impermanence, imperfection, and the simple, unpolished beauty of the everyday world.
Through guided discussion, visual examples, and a creative assignment, you’ll learn how to:
  • See beyond perfection and embrace the raw, unrefined charm of your surroundings.
  • Work with natural light, texture, and negative space to create images that feel grounded and authentic.
  • Develop a personal photographic practice that values mindfulness, patience, and presence.

In our presentation session, we will discuss all about wabi sabi, with varying examples of the concept. At the end of session 1, we will give an assignment to complete for our second session. In the second session, we will discuss your work and the work of others in an online image review.   This will be an excellent opportunity to not only receive feedback on your own work, but also see the creative visions of others, too!

This class isn’t about technical mastery—it’s about shifting your perspective. Whether you’re new to photography or a seasoned shooter seeking inspiration, you’ll leave with fresh eyes, a deeper connection to your work, and a portfolio of images that reflect the imperfect beauty of life.
Join us, do something fun, and get creative!
