Class Summary
November 7 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am
Starting your street photography journey in a small city can feel frustrating and limiting, leading many to assume you need to be in a metropolitan area to create anything of value. Nine years of documenting Providence, Rhode Island has taught Rafael Medina otherwise.
In this presentation, Rafael shares how photo books, YouTube, community and most importantly relentless practice shaped the way he documents his environment. From self published photo books and zines to exhibiting in multiple galleries and creating a street photography collective, he will discuss his journey in hopes it can motivate you to not overthink the process and do the same.
About Rafael Medina:
Based in Providence, Rhode Island, I am a Dominican American street and event photographer documenting my community since 2017. From self-publishing my photobook Dear PVD to capturing the energy of local festivals such as Newport Jazz or Daytrill, my work is rooted in connection to the people and places around me. As co-founder of SESSIONS, a street photography collective that hosts monthly events and photowalks, I help create a dedicated space for community connection and artistic growth.
