In Alna, Maine, a group of highly motivated and skilled volunteers has worked tirelessly to resurrect what was once a fully-functioning Narrow Gauge Railroad that once served parts of coastal and central Maine. Their work is a labor of love. On the campus of the railroad, 97 Cross Road, Alna, Maine 04535, several buildings are used for construction, maintenance, painting, engineering, and labor necessary to renovate, build, and maintain steam engines, railroad cars, track, and other necessary components. The undertaking is immense, impressive, and fascinating.

Everything about the location, the trains, the many details, and the people who volunteer their skills to make the WW&F run makes for outstanding photographic opportunities. During the weekend of April 24 and 25, the railway will be closed to the public as they do “spring cleaning” to prepare the railroad for the season opening. We will have unprecedented access to the campus, the buildings, and the volunteers for two full days of photography. The goal is an immersive, documentary style of storytelling as individuals and as a group. This is a unique and fantastic opportunity.

After the workshop, anyone that attends (along with anyone that has attended a previous Midcoast/WW&F Adventure) will have the opportunity to sign up for a separate class on developing and creating a book and gallery prints based around the WW&F. This project is geared toward getting attendees more comfortable with the full process, including culling, editing, processing for print, and developing cohesive projects! (More details to come…)
