Workshop Description
Located in Eastern Utah is the small town of Moab. The landscape here embodies the look and feel of the American West. Given its location between Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park, Moab is a prime destination for all levels of photographers. These areas, as well as others, will provide our group with dramatic landscapes featuring bold, red rock formations and stunning light that shapes the land in a mystical way.

Itinerary (The Itinerary is subject to change based on weather, road conditions and any unforeseen factors)

Monday, December 1– Arrival & Sunset Shoot

-Meet at Salt Lake City (SLC) airport no later than 12:00 noon. Drive to Moab and check into the hotel.  If time permits, we will photograph sunset at a scenic location near Moab. Group dinner and orientation.

Tuesday, December 2- Arches National Park – Iconic Landscapes

-Early morning departure for sunrise photography near Moab. Breakfast in town, then spend the day exploring Arches National Park. Capture stunning rock formations, dramatic light, and intricate arches. Sunset at Delicate Arch, one of the park’s most iconic locations. Return to Moab for dinner and group discussion.

Wednesday, December 3- Canyonlands National Park – Mesa Arch & Beyond

– Sunrise shoot at Mesa Arch, a world-renowned location for morning light. Breakfast & lunch at Island in the Sky, with breathtaking canyon vistas. Descend into the canyons for a unique perspective of this vast landscape. Dinner in Moab and optional evening photo review.

Thursday, December 4- Dead Horse Point & Arches National Park

– Morning session at Dead Horse Point, capturing its dramatic overlooks. Return to Moab for brunch and a mid-day break. Spend the afternoon in Arches National Park, photographing various arches and formations. Sunset session in a carefully chosen location to maximize light and composition.

Friday, December 5- Off-Road Adventure & Post-Processing

– Morning guided off-road Jeep adventure, accessing remote photography locations. Experience rugged landscapes and unique compositions off the beaten path. Afternoon dedicated to post-production and image review, with guidance on editing techniques.

Saturday, December 6– Final Sunrise & Departure

– Capture one last local sunrise near Moab.  Breakfast at the hotel and check-out. Drive back to Salt Lake City, ensuring ample time for flights. Plan departure flights after 3:00 PM to allow for a smooth return journey.

About Weather
December brings cooler temperatures to Moab, with lows in the mid-20’s and highs in the 50’s, ideal for exploring and photographing outdoors. Participants should bring clothing for cool to cold weather. Pack conservatively as the portage room is limited.

Important things to keep in mind:
• Bring clothing suited for a variety of temperatures, from cold mornings to warm afternoons. Also be prepared for potential rain and for changing weather.
• We will be photographing from 4000 to 6000 ft elevation. Normally, the only problem you can expect is a slight shortness of breath. However, the higher elevation is something to keep in mind if you live at sea level or you are prone to encountering physical difficulties at higher elevations.

Payments
A non-refundable deposit of 25% of the total cost of the trip is required upon sign-up to secure a spot. The remaining balance is due 45 days prior to the workshop. We strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance.
