Workshop Description

Experience the untamed beauty of the American West while photographing the Onaqui Wild Horse Herd in Utah. This small-group workshop offers rare access to wild horses roaming freely across expansive desert landscapes, framed by distant mountains and ever-changing light.

Photograph stallions, mares, and foals, each with unique colors and personalities, while receiving hands-on guidance in composition, exposure, autofocus, and long-lens techniques. Emphasis is placed on storytelling, anticipating behavior, and capturing decisive moments.

Many participants return year after year, drawn by the dynamic photographic opportunities and the chance to experience these wild horses in their natural home.

On this workshop, you will want to bring a variety of lenses, from wide-angle to super-telephoto. The distance to your subjects can vary, as the horses can be right next to you or far in the distance, but it is certainly recommended to consider bringing a super-telephoto in the range of 500-600mm. Please keep in mind that you can always rent lenses from Hunt’s Rentals and at a decent cost!

We will maximize our time in the field shooting a multitude of subjects as well as incorporating classroom instruction, critiques, and photographic assignments each day.
