The printed image shows our successes and our faults at a much higher level of detail than the digital image. To become better photographers, it helps to understand this by creating the printed image as a final product.

This Month’s Printed Vision Session: Printing in Monochrome

Monochrome literally means “one color”. This generally refers to classic black and white, in which all other color is stripped away and we’re left with the beautiful and simple image at its core.  However, monochrome can also refer to an image that is printed with a different hue than black, such as blue, brown (sepia), or other tones.

In this class, we will discuss printing in monochrome, from black & white to blue & white to brown & white and beyond. Which images and papers work? We will workshop your images to make a different concept!

This Print Review topic will meet for two sessions. In the first session, we will discuss the topic– some of the key differences between paper surfaces– and present a variety of options for you to have your image printed. In between sessions 1 and 2, attendees will independently process 1-2 images and submit them to the instructor for printing. Educator Paul Nelson will produce a recorded image review, discussing paper options, editing suggestions, and more, to be sent back to you leading up to the second session. Paul will then print images for the class. In the end, you will receive a print of one of your edited images up to 13×19″ in size. (Please note: We are happy to make a larger or additional print outside of the class for an additional fee!)

A Note About The Printed Review Series

Our Print Review Monthly is a chance to continue the print conversation over the course of many months. These sessions are excellent for anyone:

• Someone that wants a little help with editing before they get a print

• Someone that does print but has print-related questions

• A person that prints often and wants to try a different paper

• Someone with no knowledge of printing that just wants to get a print!

Come check out why printing is the best thing to do for your photography!
