Refund Policy – Classes / Walks / Workshops
For classes, walks, & workshops, cancellations and postponement can be made up to 48-hours prior to the scheduled time. Refunds cannot be granted for cancellations placed less than 72-hours/3-days before a class or walk, but you can receive a 75% credit toward a future class, walk, or workshop.
For all cancellations, you must contact classes@huntsphoto.com prior to the event. If you register for a class and do not show up, your payment will be forfeited..
Come celebrate the love of film, learn new ideas and techniques, listen to passionate artists using the analog medium, and get inspired at our first ever Film Weekend Extravaganza!
This weekend will be a mix of guest speakers discussing the analog medium, presenting concepts (new and old), the experience of using film and analog, and good old fashioned community building (come meet some new friends). We will have film giveaways and free raffles. Also, the first 40 people to sign up for either day on the weekend will be able to submit a film image that Hunt’s Photo will print and display as part of Film Gallery Opening!
This event will take place primarily on Sunday August 9th. However, we will have a meet and greet, guest speaker, and our gallery show on Saturday August 8th. We recommend signing up even if you can only attend a part of the weekend!
Highlights!
On Saturday, August 8th, our guest speaker will be the author of the DIY book This Book is a Camera, Kelli Anderson, who will be discussing analog experiences in the digital world. On Sunday August 9th, our guests will be Providence-based photographer Jonathan Pitts-Wiley who will discuss film photography as an artistic outlet, photographer Maryjane Griffin who will discuss adventures in film soup, and demos of the tintype process with Evoke Tintype.

Saturday 8/8 Afternoon (approximately 3-7pm)
- 3-4pm- Meet and Greet and Film Gallery Opening- Come check out a gallery of film images taken by other attendees and Hunt’s Photo employees. We will have snacks and refreshments!
- 4-6pm– Talk with author and DIY artist Kelli Anderson
- 6-7pm- Q&A, Kelli’s book available to purchase (and sign, if requested!)
Sunday 8/9 (10am-4pm)
- 10-11:30am– Talk with photographer Jonathan Pitts-Wiley (CURTAIN CALLING: The Theatrical Nature of Analog Photography- See below)
- 11:30am-1pm– Break and opportunities to check out demos during this time
- 1-2pm– Talk with photographer Maryjane Griffin on Film Soup
- 2-4pm– Opportunities to check Demos and discussion on topics listed below
- Throughout the afternoon, we will have the following stations set up throughout the store, with opportunities to see and sometimes participate in the following processes:
- Camera Scanning- Learn the process and advantages of scanning your negatives with a digital camera rather than a flatbed scanner with Hunt’s Photo Educator Mike Pacheco
- DIY and Plastic Film Cameras- Learn about the fun options available and the experience of using these cameras with Hunt’s Photo Lead Educator Emily Hojnowski
- Cyanotypes- Why would you ever want a blue print? Cyanotypes are an amazing alternative to black and white. Bring in a digital file and we’ll make one for you!
- Instant Film Portraits- Photographer Jonathan Pitts-Wiley will be set up taking medium and large format instant portraits
- TinType Photography- Evoke TinType will be taking tintype portraits throughout the afternoon. These sessions have been pre-booked, but you can still observe the process in real time!
- Film Soup- In addition to her talk, Maryjane Griffin will be available to further discuss her explorations in Film Soup!
- Fujifilm rep John Haggerty will be present with Fuji’s line of instant cameras and film, as well as their digital line (just in case)
- Ricoh-Pentax rep Bill Sims will be present with the Pentax 17 half-frame film camera that you can demo
- Hunt’s Photo’s Used Equipment Manager Andrew Conant will be in the house with lots of used film goodies!
- Hunt’s Photo Educator Paul Nelson will be on site developing film, talking about Large Format Cameras, and maybe a few other fun tricks!
About our Guest Speakers
Kelli Anderson uses design magic to connect people with the depth and possibility of their world. She created This Book is a Camera (MoMA)—which transforms into a working camera—and This Book is a Planetarium (Chronicle)—which houses paper devices (including a planetarium) and has sold more than 100,000 copies. Alphabet in Motion, an interactive book about typography and technology was published to wide acclaim in the Fall of 2025. Other projects include a viral paper record player and—with The Yes Men—a utopian counterfeited New York Times, which won the Ars Electronica Prix. Doctors without Borders have used the award-winning Tinybop Human Body app she created to communicate illness and treatment nonverbally to their patients in remote areas. Clients include NPR, the New Yorker, the Guggenheim, MoMA, Apple, and the New York Times. She has been nominated for the Cooper-Hewitt Smithsonian National Design Award three times. She teaches at NYU and Cooper Union.
Jonathan Pitts-Wiley is a portrait photographer and co-founder of the Rhode Island-based Black photographer collective, The Vanta Guild. In the summer of 2021, Jonathan collaborated with renowned photographer Mary Beth Meehan to produce Witness, an exhibition that explores the life and times of his late grandmother, Annye Raye Pitts. In December 2022, his was one of five portraits selected for the City of Providence’s “Who We Are Now?” public art banner project.
A Yale graduate, Jonathan is the Creative Director at Curiosity Store in Jamestown, Rhode Island and has, since 2010, been the Artistic Director of Pawtucket, RI’s Mixed Magic Theatre. Jonathan is married to Mixed Magic’s music director, Kim Morrison Pitts-Wiley. The couple has two children.
Jonathan’s talk will be “Curtain Calling: The Theatrical Nature of Analog Photography”- In this talk, Jonathan will discuss how his experience working in theater relates to how he approaches photography– both digital and film, but also the instant photographic process. While digital photography is largely an after-the-fact medium (we’ll fix it in post!”), film photography, and especially the instant photographic processes, are a before-the-fact medium. Due to the unpredictable nature, it becomes almost a “live performance”, similar to theater!
Maryjane Griffin is a North Shore based documentary photographer working primarily in film, with a playful, hands-on approach to image-making. She’s passionate about making photography feel fun and accessible, and about sparking creativity in others through experimentation and process. Her ongoing passion project, film soup, involves soaking and altering analog film with seawater, botanicals, and other unexpected materials to create unpredictable, textured results. At the Hunt’s Photo & Video Film Show, she’ll share her approach to film soup and how embracing chance can open up a more intuitive, creative way of working with film.
